Hi,
What is the best way to kitkat when youre rooted with dalingrin method and you want no data loss and sd card problems ?
Sent from my LG-V500 using xda app-developers app
Flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2707363
all prerequisites and instructions are in the link.
For me it didn't work 100% the first time, had some weird keyboard issues.
Just flashed it another time and now it's been 100% stable for a week.
Thanks for the answer. Didn't you have any issues with mounted games and the foldermount ? Because I've got many games on the sdcard.
And did you flash twrp 2.7.0.1 for ota or 2.7.0.0 ?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
You need 2.7.0.1, it says so in the instructions. I think 2.7.0.0 will also work but you get dim screen issues in twrp.
The new KOT49I.V50020B OTA already includes "External SD R\W Fix"
Features:
Official Stock 4.4.2 LG build KOT49I.V50020B GB EU+ Stock 4.4.2 Kernel
NO Data Wipe
Doesn't flash over existing Recovery or ABOOT (you keep TWRP and retain loki-exploit)
SuperSU 1.94 + su binary Installed
BusyBox 1.22.1-Stericson Installed
Wipes Dalvik-Cache and Cache partition
Working English QVoice and Q Apps
External SD R\W Fix

So you keep all your data, you keep root, you keep TWRP, and no SDcard issues.
Just make a full back up first and try it, you can go back if you don't like it.
As said I had to flash it a second time but it has been flawless since.
It's preferable over taking the official OTA as you won't have to reroot, reinstall recovery and fix sd card permissions.
Only issue is with icons for LG apps in 3rd party launchers, but that is the same in the official update.
Thanks again...just one more "stupid" question, can I flash the new twrp over the old one without deinstalling it ? I have the 2.6.2.3 or something like that...
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
Yes, just download the new twrp, boot into recovery and install the new twrp from the old twrp.
Reboot into recovery and check if you're on 2.7.0.1
Sent from my LG-V500 using Tapatalk

Nope.

Thanks again for the answers. .. Everything is ready here but I still hesitate. ... What are the big differences? Battery, is it faster, ...
Sent from my LG-V500 using xda app-developers app
Why hesitate?
Boot into recovery, make a full backup and then flash the new rom.
If you don't like the new rom, restore your backup like nothing ever happened.
New rom is smoother, and the sound from the speakers is better.
Damn...I get com.android.systemui stopped... I can do nothing, not even get to the app twrp to boot in recovery. I managed with the hardware buttons and I'm restoring the backup...fingers crossed... What went wrong ? Backup worked !!
But what could be the reason for stopped systemui ? Is it because I live in Belgium (EU-rom ?) or do I have to wipe dalvik cache and data cache after flashing the rom ?
Edit: downloaded the file again and flashed and did manually wiped data and dalvik cache.... now it works like a charm.... till now ?

Just some quick questions. What model is your phone? Which TWRP did you flash? Did you check the md5 checksum of the rom and kernel zips?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
Model SGH-M919, I've tried twrp 2.5 and 2.6, mostly use 2.5 because I have issues with 2.6 and yes I've checked them multiple times, re-download them both multiple times as well
Use cwm, both versions of twrp are bugged or something is wrong with it. Cwm will do the trick for you

I encountered the same problem, go to KTweaker if you are still using ktoonsez kernel. And change your settings to this.
Make sure you set it to on Boot as Immediately & save the settings. Same thing happened to me, I put in his settings and problem vanished.
After you do that, turn it off and go to recovery. Wipe Dalvik Cache & Cache than finally Fix Permissions in Advanced.

+1 you're having an issue with the kernel you're using.
Are you using exFAT 64gb sd card? If you are, take it out and your phone will boot fine.

Ok. Because you formatted the internal storage with TWRP your partitions are probably messed up. Odin back to stock (like you need to return it) and start over again. You can use TWRP if you want, its a great recovery. Just dont format the internal storage with it. Obviously try the easier fixes first, ie SD card. These phones seem to be more sensitive to formatting than previous galaxy models.

Ive been thru this issue also Trust me Restore stock once more and use oudhs cwm base recovery with swipe gestures. .. skip the twrp junk.
You need to root in a specific manor to bypass the Selinux permissive setting that samsung put on the s4.
I root with odin and flash these files in order after u google search them there also in the s4 root section ..I forget which page.
First @ foremost
FLASH RECOVERY I RECOMEND OUDHS 1.0.3.3 swipe gesture By shabby penguin.
Reboot device into recovery
Flash in order
1# root m919 UVUAMDL.zip
2nd #flash MDB SetUIDoff.zip that bypasses the kernel issue that samsung has blocked ..
3# flash superuser.zip of your choice
#4 wipe cash
5#reboot
You can now flash any Rom, restore etc.... no issues.

No its not actually. ... if you would odin back stock and root the way I said with files i mentioned you would see.. if you dont want to then thats fine too.
You dont even need odin stock
Just format system in twrp
Then reflash the files.

Thank you for your reply, i still wonder what's the difference between wipe and format? I should be able to flash a rom through recovery after wiping and formating?
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
wipe - deletes everything on internal storage preserving partition structure
format - recreates internal storage partition from scratch so to say
Usually wipe is more safe, format might end up with corrupt partition structure if something goes wrong
And NO, you cannot flash ROM after wipe/format unless ROM zip is on your external storage.
Thank you nejil8. I will try to flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468083 because when i try, it boot loops in the very first logo screen it wont go past the very first logo. Ironically, I have installed darthstalker rom several times with no problem.
I always wipe

-dalvik cache
-system
-data
I will try wiping "internal storage" and see if it boots up. Thank you for your help.
I forgot to mention im using twrp 2.6.3.2 not the latest version. Sometimes i wonder if that's causing the boot loop at very first logo.

Update your recovery, flash the ROM and see this for fixing bootloop. Wiping internal storage wont help.
Use adb to push all files needed to /sdcard and have them available for flashing in recovery.
Thank you to all that were helpful. I decided to go back to stock using this method how to unbrick unroot NOTE 3 I was able to enable unlimited native tethering and rerooted and install this amazing program Xposed framework (you can record calls an many many more tweaks. I don't really need a custom rom, i mainly wanted unlimited tethering that's all. I also have Next launcher 3D NEXT laucher 3D is SICK. I don't need anything esle. That launcher is a major GO.
Ok so I actually have some really serious problems that I need some help with fast.
My details so you can help me with the following
*Running DN3 3.2 ROM rooted
*MJ5 new bootloader
*TWRP(at the moment)
*AGNi kernel
Soooo, here are the problems I encounter
I cant find a proper way to swap internal with external sd card. Now hear this super strange problem. Both with the script on this forum and the setting on AGNi control app DO INDEED swap the int with the ext sd card but theres a catch. Neither of them can swap the sdcard0/Android/obb(which is the folder I wanna swap -.-')but they swap the rest of the mount point! Soooo strange. As a result theres no space recover by applying this method and the obb folder still stays at int storage.
I really hate MTP on 4.3 Is there any way to enable the freaking USB Mass Storage?
Whenever I move an app to the sd card(settings/manage applications)and I reboot, after the reboot the app is lost and it says "App not installed" whenever I click its icon. This is the situation even after rebooting, I cannot move the app back to internal storage and as a result I have to uninstall and reinstall the app which leads to loss of data.(Note that I'm using a 32GB class 10 sd card)
I cannot make a proper backup and/or make a proper restore. I have tried both latest Philz and latest TWRP, the backup takes around an hour to do(REAALLLYYY long...)and then if I try to restore it says "Restore failed" on both recoveries.(On Philz it said md5 mismatch or something similar and on TWRP it said just restore failed)My only theory is that because I was trying to install a 4.4.2 ROM after making a backup and the recoveries were simply incompatible with KitKat, but other than that I don't understand why this happens.
Sorry for so long post but I really need help here. Thanks in advance!
Don't use the latest version of philz, it takes very long to boot the Rom for the first time which makes one get scared. Use version 5 Philz. After you wipe dalwik cache , go to mounts and format sd card and external card(take backup) then flash the Rom and reboot.
I flashed dn3 v 3.2 with cwm which ended up stucking at boot screen. Then I was told to use philz 5,now it works the works like charm. If I was you now I would flash the stock rom (unroot ) then root and flash dn3. Keep the stock kernel which comes with the rom. I didn't flashed mj5 boot loader instead I flashed Dr ketan's Wi-Fi patch. I had problem switching on Wi-Fi. Hope you get your problem resolved this is an amazing rom!

Hi NickVXD, I faced the same and was very disturbed, but finally it worked, the obb is swaped. I'm also using Agni latest.
What I did
1st I disabled the option from agni control app
Then rebooted
Then went to CWM
Flash the latest script of mattiadj, this one
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ivl678c67r7z57g/extsd2internalsd_fat32_gs3_8.zip
..and the obb folder is swaped.
Regarding Proper Backup & Restore
During a restore, from CWM misc nandroid settings, uncheck md5 checksum
Then restore.
It'll restore.
Hope it helps.

@nitol Thanks a lot for the obb solution, will check it later and report back. The problem with CWM isn't getting rid of the md5sum but to find a way to make the backup not corrupted. I had made a backup and then when I restored it said md5mismatch. So I removed md5sum check from settings and when the restore was done, I rebooted and phone stuck at note 2 screen. So the problem is the corrupted backup and not the md5. Also backup took 50-55 minutes to finish. Is that normal?? Thanks again.

I'm just curious how to install a rom on it when your supposed to erase all data on the device. I have already backed up my entire os and saved my efs to my pc. i backed up twrp (after rom backup of course), freegee, and efs folders to my pc as requested. If I erase everything on my device, my rom won't be there to install. I've never installed on a phone that didn't have external storage (which is where i normally put my rom). How do you guys manage this? thanks in advance for the help!

Sounds like you're all ready.
So in TWRP since that's your choice, put the rom of your choice on the SD. Then in TWRP, go to Wipe, then factory reset. Then Advanced select everything except internal storage. That's your sd. Then flash away.

For stock, stock runs really well as does OpTimuS DE. OpTimus has some G2 tweaks also.
The CM/AOSP ROMs are all really good. The most common issues seem to be camera, and lately something to do with SD. So read up on the thread of the rom you what to install.
I really can't recommend one over another, as they all have their good and bad.
Mostly good though as the devs are really good about fixing the issues.
You're gonna like every ROM you install.

It is not installing any of the mandatory system files which makes sense why it installs in like 10 seconds.. I wipe everything sys, delvik cache, cache, data.. using TWRP 2.7.0.1
please help me
This is also happening when I try to install Wicked Rom so ANY suggestions would be awesome. I'm probably going to return to stock and then flash new rom
after reinstalling stock firmware through odin and then trying to install a custom rom same thing is still happening so im guessing i should try and go to stock and than completely wipe everything and then try from there?
I'd install a ROM that doesn't have an aroma installer. Then install the one you want with aroma.

Is there more i could wipe like a partition that is still bad maybe?
I'm going to go to stock again but this time with odin 3.07 not what i was using which was a much older odin and im going to then install a custom recovery and root and please do tell me your favorite recovery im probably gonna try oudhs cwm and then ill see if i run into problems installing roms.
The main problem is the rom likes to install all its apk options for example adobe reader or samsung music app but it will NOT install any mandatory system files which make the phone work.
after i get stock i also wipe data factory reset in stock recovery which delete everything which is fine i knew it would.
This time i'll also be resetting the flash counter which i havent done

I haven't but i will try. At the moment i am at stock firmware and I would like to know what my filesystem should look like.. When I go into just "/" section before sdcard it shows me lots of folders some looking unnessary and maybe in the way of installing my rom normally View attachment 2650548

Could this be a bootloader issue or something with my filesystem because I can tell these roms are all avoiding like half of their installation. They should be extracting more files and take more than 20 seconds to install
Which bootloader do you have?

there was a thread saying that you could repair your phone if your data was set to a read only not write but i checked with adbshell mount and all my stuff is rw so im good there..
I haven't ever had a problem where rom doesn't fully install..
I was minding my own business on GPe rom from Kot94h and it was good but i decided hmm this has been my daily driver for queit some time ill switch to hyper drive and bamm i realize stuff isn't going right.

for now im going to run stock and restore my stuff but hopefully i can get to the bottom of this
I can't think of where the source of the problem is.
I find it interesting how while an app installs i see it installing like system/app/blahblah.apk and that is like the first thing it starts to install
i think if i can remember a rom usually does system/framwork or something along those lines first
I have also MD5 checked all my files and they are all perfectly matching
Any Ideas?
I have this idea to try and erase every file on my device and then flash a room is that even possible
Could someone download root file explorer and go to their "/" and just snap a pic of the folders i want to compare your folders properties for example one of mine say rwxr-xr-x
Or i have another idea.
Is it possible to reformat my system partition with odin maybe with a PIT file??
Think, why would a rom skip installation of system files? It looks like it blazes through the installation after installing a few system apps
