Storage encrypted suddenly - Sony Xperia M

Hi everyone
I have a strange problem with my xperia M. Somewhen today the Play Store and some other apps crashed so I decided to reboot. The last reboot is about thre days ago. After startup i got a starnge screen asking me for a password to unlock the storage. I have absoltely no idea what this screen is as I have never seen it before. I attatched a screenshot of the phone.
I have never entered a password to encrypt the data on that device. After trying around a bit I called the sony support. They told me to reset the phone using the sony software. But doing this will delete all my data
What I can do to get my data back? And why is my phone suddenly encrypted?
I use Stock ROM think it was 4.2.1 or something. Locked Bootloader not rooted.
Rgds

edit:The time shown on the password screen is not my local time. this is also a litlle bit strange to me

I think, you might have messed up in "Encrypt your phone".
I don't see any way to get out of it, still wait for some expert to give a solution.

Are you really sure that nobody accidentally encrypted your phone? This are bad news, as far as I know, unless you discover that password, the only way to fix that will be wiping your device =/

Hi folks
thanks for your replies. I am absolutely sure that I have not actively encrypted the device. I think the process of encryption takes several hours what I should have recognized.
Is it possible that some kind of virus has encrypted the device?

Thats also my oppinon. for that reason I dont have virus protection software or something similar on my device. As I even have not installed anything since the last reboot I cant imagine that there is a virus on my phone.
Is it possible to encrypt the device remote. I think my google account was hacked, as my password was not valid anymore....
I have never thougt about encryption, so I dont know much about this topic.
Thanks for your help

is there any solution yet?
I know this thread almost 3 years posted, but I really need to know about how to decrypt it. My friend has an encrypted C2004 and I'm interested to make her phone be mine. Do you guys here have any idea? thx in advance.

It is a faulty nand memory, solution is replacing the board

[Q] The device deleted all of my storage on its own..

Hello everybody.
This retarded phone..deleted all of my files that were in storage. That includes, photos, music. ebooks etc..i have no idea why it would do that ! it is not the first time this happens. the phone was connected to my computer, then i transferred some files to it, and after i disconnected i saw that my storage was empty sans the files i just transferred.
does anyone have an ideas why did it happen or how to prevent a situation like this in the future ?!
The PC term is "phones with disabilities".
Reboot your phone and I bet it is working properly again. Something about mounting computer storage search blah rabble.

Thanks for replying, but i don't think you understood me. the phone is working normally, and the storage is mounted properly and recognised by the computer. the problem is that all of my data that was on the device got deleted by itself, by the phone ! as absurd as this sounds..

I got that you were implying that, but I didn't think you seriously thought that was the case. Plus I've experienced the same thing when unmounting from the comp, a reboot fixes it. I mean if your storage isn't holding data you must have a hardware issue right? Or you keep your phone next to a powerful magnet or something. Your options are limited in that case. Warranty it or buy a new device. The only other thing I can think of is you recently updated to JB and are confused by the /0/ partition.

Well, a reboot didn't work for me..the data is still deleted. you mentioned unmounting from the computer..in MTP mode there is no actual unmounting right ?! its just plug and play..
couldn't the problem be software wise ? this has happened both in android 4.1 and 4.2..

I hope not! There shouldn't be any software that wipes your sdcard w/o you wanting it to. I mean, I guess for you I would hope that's the case since you wont be out the hardware, but personally I am unaware of any software that functions like that. Can you replicate it? If you download a song or a picture or something right now and plug your phone up to the comp, will everything be wiped again?

No..it is totally random.
the only thing that i could possibly think about is that i sent an app to be installed from the Play Store while the phone was connected to the PC..maybe that caused some kind of interference ?!
I wish it was that easy sending the phone for repairs. it is still under warranty but i bought it abroad, which means i would be left without a phone for a month or two and will have to deal with customs.
Unfortunately, nobody but you seem to be able to help me. i appreciate you trying to help, thank you.

[Q] Cannot unlock my Wonder

I've got a problem here. Well, I put a PIN code for the unlock screen as my friend sometimes use it without my permission. Then, somehow someone is tring to guess it until it reah maximum opportunity which I have to input my e-mail account. I've already done it but the phone says wrong, but tried on computer and it works fine. I am actually avoiding doing hard reset as I think that's the final solution.
Anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks in advance

Well I simply don't understand why unlocking the phone with your google account did not work. Are you on a custom ROM? Are you using the correct google account which is set to be used with the phone? It seems to me that you are using a google account other than the one on the phone...
Say somebody finds your phone and can not guess the security pin, they can't get in the phone with their google account. It has to be your google account to begin with.
Well AFAIK, the only way I know how to by pass this is to wipe data via recovery. (i.e.: hard reset) but then you will lose all the data...This is a good thing so that people who finds/steals your phone can not get their hand on your personal data..

I also cannot afford to think 'how come I cannot log in to my own account?' A way I think is how to back up data from internal memory while as I know, when we plunging in USB cable, it needs confirmation through the phone...

Need help unlocking a device.

Hello, my stepdad passed away last week and we were left with his phone thats locked with a fingerprint plus a security password due to the amount of people that tried putting their fingers on it anyway.
This phone has a lot of important pictures and videos of my little brother and phone numbers of people who still don't know he passed away, the notebook he left behind only has outdated numbers and we haven't been able to find these people yet.
He didn't know about developer tools so he didn't know about OEM unlock, USB debugging, and didn't even have usb media transfer enabled, due to that there's no way for me to use twrp and aroma file manager as far as I know.
Is there anything I can do to get into this phone without losing the files?

Thats through Find My Device right? When I tried it it said that if the phone already had a lock screen I wouldnt be able to use the temp password.
To get all these photos and the other stuff stored on the device you need to know your stepdad's user login anyway. Every change of the security settings requires a password confirmation.
But maybe there's an active login on the notebook you mentioned. Did he use chrome? The password could be stored by the password manager.
As a final step you could try to reset the password with his phone number if still active.

Unfortunately none of the passwords saved in his account worked on his phone, but we discovered that all of his phone's pictures and videos were automatically uploaded to Google Photos (I should have checked there first and I'm embarrassed), and we had a few emotional hours. Now that we have the pictures we don't need to unlock his phone anymore. Thanks for everybody who helped, I really appreciate it.

Phone hacked

I need help identifying what app or setting got me into this mess.
I think the hacker has adb access.
He shuts down apps.. etc
He is messing with the notifications.. i get ony a few. Sometimes they come in late.
I have made reset from samsung setting and the boot menu, AND I INSTALLED A NEW ROM (the one for my phone) WITH ODIN. Still the issue resurfaces.
I think my roomate installed smthg in it. He is on the house wifi and he is got a degree in networking (i think thats what it's called, we study in french in my country)
Please i need help.
If someone needs any further details, please ask.
Avoid the wifi network you suspect your hacker friend is on, reinstall the rom downloaded on another network and stay on 4G and see if it still happens? Also suspect your PC to be hacked...
Thx for replying,
I did format my pc but i have connected it to house wifi.. didn't notice anything out of order though.
I found out about the "Revoke USB debugging authorisations" option in Developer Options. I think it is working.
Today, since i made a new instagram account, i added a mutual friend. Turns out it was an old and lost account, and thats when i got the error from the video.
Fortunately, i fixed it by un.following the account and clearing the app storage.
I need to know what access does he have?
Can't upload the video, here's some shots.
Look no further than yourself for the cause of this... one way or another.
RX: Factory reset, change Google account password.
Stop with the social media crap and go mingle with real people.
This not about social media, it's about getting my phone back.
With my old account, I couldn't even talk to my messenger friend. Today, thats like having your phone number unreachable all the time, frustrating.
Please if you don't want to help don't, but no need for quick unhelpful replies.

How was it compromised?
Understand if it was compromised it's more than likely because you left yourself vulnerable to attack.
A compromised OS needs to be cleaned or wiped... I gave you the solution(s).
No need to say thanks but don't give me lip about your screw ups.
Thank you.
I tried factory reset more than 10 times, different ways. No luck.
I think he is got access to one of my friends account but i don't know how he is using this connection with me ( message, notification.. i don't know)
@blackhawk what you said is true, and i didn't mean no offense.

Reflash the firmware especially if it is Oreo or below.
If it's not embedded in the firmware, it's being added by you albeit inadvertently.
Your Achilles heel is social media... don't be so predictable. Break the link in the chain.
None of the social apps should be running on the device, they are malware. At least keep them in the cloud.
Email must always be kept in the cloud and any attachments downloaded from it scruntinized or preferably not downloaded at all. All downloads are suspect.
At this point your data base is suspect as well.

Unless someone physically got their hands on it, there's no known way the Android 11 stock factory image can be compromised by a rootkit or virus. A factory reset is all that is needed.
The problem happened after the reset.

That is exactly what i suspect did happen. I often leave my phone home and my pattern is known for him.
How can i undo a modification of that level.
(I intend to go to a phone repair shop and install new soft with the "box". Is this recommended or is it a bad idea)

Never leave a phone physically unsecured as that's the only real security there is.
You need to have the firmware reflashed then be careful what you put back on it.
Change all your passwords and use secure passwords.
I ithink i this is the problem.( in the pic below)
There was an app called android device.. don't know if this is normal. So i deleted it and restarted and things are back to normal.
Sorry i can't upload the image, the app closes automatically.

Question PIN unknown, owner deceased :( Need to open the phone w/o wiping it

Is there a way to get into the phone after a reboot if the PIN is unknown? The owner died and the family needs to get into the phone. Any pointers appreciated. Thanks!

It is out there on how to do it, search for it, because we cannot know if this is indeed a truthful and/or legal request we can not answer. Sorry!
"it's out there" - yeah, I figured that much. I'm not about to upload a death certificate on a public board, you'll have to forgive me. Any actually helpful pointers to get this done? Just trying to help the family. Thanks.
Android All_In_One_Tool maybe
Is Jack Bauer involved?
I wish! He'd have the thing enter it's own code just by giving it an angry stare
So I found the tool mentioned above, not quite sure which function I'd use to take a crack at it. Best option would be a giant "remove pin" button, highlighted in yellow for me, lol... The 9 Pro isn't explicitly stated as supported either, hope that's not an issue in this case. Am I going to Recovery/Flasher and Device Rooter or Decrypt internal storage?
Any new Oneplus phone that has a PIN also has FBEv2. Everything that matters on the phone is encrypted at rest.* Even if you bypass lock screen, you need the PIN to open any data in the phone. If the bootloader is unlocked, you can try backing up data with a custom recovery like TWRP or orangefox, but most if not all files stored in internal storage is encrypted.
Basically, if the PIN is lost, bypass the lock screen is no use and you can wipe the data now. See if the PIN is written down somewhere
Mmm was the phone linked to Google? It could be what you're after has been uploaded to Google drive ( photos etc)
its worth a shot
