[Q] AOKP 4.4 Lockscreen - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello everyone, after trying many 4.4 ROMs to find one with the features I want that worked good on my phone, finally I found AOKP and everything seems to be pretty solid, however what is up with the pathetically lame lockscreen? I can't even set up custom slider shortcuts or anything. I would just like to be at least able to have a shortcut to camera, gmail, and messaging on the lockscreen but this one apparently doesn't offer anything but unlock or enable widgets (which I don't care for necessarily). Am I missing something, or did they just decide to go with the lamest lockscreen imaginable for this ROM. I tried so many options from the Play store but they are all so buggy and don't allow me to use my home button normally. Ughh its so frustrating to come so close to perfect after trying so many different ROMs. Thanks for any help or suggestions!
UPDATE
Nevermind I just found out the camera is really glitchy and slow, so I'm giving up on 4.4. Went back to CM 10.1 which is the only non-touch wiz rom that can seem to get it right. I wish CM would release CM 11 for Note II oh well guess I'm stuck.

cm11 is out. just in unofficial version. and if you want a 4.3 rom, try an older version of aokp. which can be found on there web page. either way am pretty sure theres a rom out there that does what you want. you just need to do some searching to find whats available for a note 2

[Q] Miui / ICS Rom with Secure Box Feature for Desire

Can anyone help me out with finding a Miui or ICS rom that has the secure box feature built in on the messaging?
I'm sure I had one when I took the jump from Sense/Leedroid to ICS/Miui.
But I have gone through all the roms i downloaded few months ago but none seem to have them, I'm sure one did because i remember discovering it and wondering what it was and now I actually need it!
I would prefer an Miui rom (I'm currently on Miui US)
Would really appreciate if someone would take the time just to help us out.
Maybe I have the rom already but don't know how to access secure box feature?
I have googled and researched as best I can but at a dead end.
Thanks!
I haven't tried MIUI Roms but if you use sense 3.0 ROMs you will get inbuilt secure box features just tap the top messaging bar.
or Get an App from Play Store for that
Something like Handcent SMS, Chomp or something like
this one
you Will have to try out the best thing that suits you

[Q] Does a CM-based ROM with good pen support exist?

My phone (running stock, rooted 4.1.2 at the moment) is getting a little unstable, so I am going to wipe and start from scratch. I'd really like to go back to CyanogenMod-based ROMs, but AFAIK the pen support in these is awful -- S Note is no longer there, and there is nothing in the Play Store remotely as good, and all of the useful annotating tricks are missing.
If this is no longer the case, can someone let me know? I am not in the "scene" and there are so many ROMs posted in so many places that I have no idea where to start. Otherwise I think I will probably grab the rooted 4.3 ROM that dropped a couple days ago and try that on for size.
Thanks gang.
I'm running the gt-7105 cm10.2 .0 and I have been using the papyrus app in the play store. I'm pretty happy with it

No ROMs based of anything other then tw have the functionally that your looking for in terms of the spen. With that said, you can get some decent apps that make it less painful.
When I run cyan or any other AOSP/AOKP ROMs I install spen launcher along with notebuddy and cm spen add on. That combination will allow a pop up menu when you remove the spen that allows you to have access to your spen apps. As stated papyrus is a good one, gnote found here on xda is another, write and sketchbook, you can backup or extract sketchbook from stock ROMs and it installs fine.

Help. Some problems are rooting 4.4.2 vinar

I just rooted to 4.4.2 vinar and have 2 issues. One. The s pen no longer works. The air command does not appear when the pen is pulled out nor does anything happen like it usually makes a sound. The pen displays a cursor over the screen though. The second issue is the "Ok google" feature stopped working. It was working great when I first rooted, but now it's not working at all. It works, but not the ok google, when you speak it. How do i fix these?

Vanir is AOSP. All Samsung software/features do not work since you are not on a TouchWiz ROM. Not sure if Vanir comes with two different launchers like some other AOSP ROM. You may now be using the one that doesn't have the OK, Google feature. Clear the default for the launcher or hit the Home button and select Launcher, not launcher3.
As a sidenote, you 'flashed' Vanir, not rooted.

Sorry, I'm not too in depth with the terms. I'm using the "launcher" not launcher 3. Also, I do have the one that has the ok Google feature because it was working for me, for some reason it just stopped working... If I could get the ok Google feature to work as well as the air commands, I'd be happy. Is that possible to do with another rom maybe? I saw that there is an official 4.4 update coming OTA in the next week or so. Would I be best just unroot ING and going with that? My phone is rooted.
No problem with terms. We all here have been a noob at one point. You can try to do a factory reset to see if that fixes your issue. Or reflash the Vanir ROM Never take OTA if you want to keep flashing custom ROMs. Let the devs here do their magic in bring a custom 4.4 TW ROM. Also look in the general section where someone post some apps to simulate the Spen features.

[Q] need ROM compatible w/S Note (searched)

First off, I have been searching for about 3 weeks trying to find a ROM that will retain s note. I have tried several other apps and have not found one that works as efficiently, and to my liking like s no doeROMsI have tried flashing several different ROMs and still have not found one that is no work on.
currently I am running a liquidsmooth version 3.2. Main reason why I crashed my phone is for battery life. After the NK2 update my battery life went to crap. I don't make too many posts on here at all, I spend most of my time reading and searching.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Steve.
P.S. I guess this needs moved. Thanks in advance for moving.

All Touchwiz ROMs (based on stock) are compatible with S Note (a Touchwiz app). Sounds like you have been running through AOSP based ROMs.
About all I can find has been aosp or CM. I tried the Roger Wilco ROM but could not get it to boot. I will keep searching.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Free mobile app
I am having a similar frustration. I'm looking for a ROM(s) with S Note for a Note 2, though I got the R Wilco ROM to work. I used this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...lco12s-stock-ne2-v1-0-8-24-14-t2857216/page73
However, it still updates with Samsung, all the Google apps are there, and Gallery wants to sync with Google. WiFI and GPS worked out of the box. It's been really stable. Even Firefox hasn't been crashing!
I don't get why people want to have a Note and don't want to use the pen. I haven't found any other apps that work with the pen. Though, to be honest, finding Android apps is ridiculously difficult: there's no reliable way on the Play market.
So, what I'm looking for is a 4.4.x KitKat ROM with S Note (and therefore presumably Touch Whiz) that's stable, WiFi works out of the box, GPS works out of the box, and has limited Google apps (ie just YouTube, Gmail, Maps/Nav, and Google Play). In a perfect world, those Google Apps would be an add-on set. I got that idea from another ROM actually. I don't want it to auto-update and attempt to kill itself.

Stock android on HTC 10?

Hi guys!
I have had a HTC M8 for over 2 years and have loved it very much. I didn't like sense very much so I put the google play edition ROM on there so that it was just running stock android and it became my dream phone. I decided to upgrade to the HTC 10, but sense is driving me insane again (although it is much better) i do just want to go back to stock android again. There's no GPE version of this phone, is there still a way that I can go to stock android on my HTC 10?
Thanks in advance
Brad
Great question, and I wish there was an option, in some settings somewhere to just reboot into stock Android, but sadly nothing like that.
Only option is to wait for CM13 ROM's to come out this Summer to get away from Sense
There will be non-sense ROM's out soon.
Btw, if you just replace the launcher to something like Nova or whatever you like, Sense is basically not even there anymore.

Thank you for your reply Glad it wasn't a stupid question.
So Cyanogen Mod is effectively just stock android? Or will there be subtle differences between that and the Google Play Edition ROM that I'm used to?

Thanks for responding!
Yes I did install the Google Now launcher, and it has definitely helped, but there are still some little things about Sense that are driving me crazy. Little things... I just have minor OCD... I hate HTC's lockscreen clock, I don't have my location services on all the time, so the lockscreen clock gives me a "weather unavaliable" error 24/7. I don't even want weather on my lockscreen. And also it drives me crazy that I can't install Google's phone app, that is way better than HTC's. And also I can't uninstall Instagram, and Facebook etc, apps that I don't even use!
I know these things probably seem silly to most people but they're really annoying to me, hence why I want to go back to lovely stock Android! Do you know if I could achieve what I want simply by rooting my phone? Or would flashing a new ROM be the only way?

Try Nova, honestly it makes GPL seem silly. As for the lockscreen widget, I'm trying to get rid of that myself so let me know if you figure it out :silly:
The unwanted apps like facebook/insta have been disabled on my phone so they don't run background services and I have used nova to hide the icons. They may as well not exist on the phone but unfortunately I can't remove them completely..at least not without root, which leads to my next point...
You can achieve most of the things you want (removing system apps etc.) with root. Short of wanting additional features (even this can be done via xposed to be honest) baked into the OS or wanting a pure stock experience, you can achieve what you need with root. However, I won't go into all the details with the issues with unlocking your BL and rooting and doing S-Off etc.

That's not stock Android, it's just a debloated Sense ROM.
To the OP, CyanogenMod is close to stock. Think of it as stock Android with tweaks and additional customization.
so you have an working cm Image?!
just share with tue community
I d said a "clean version of stock rom".
did not say that is gpe or aosp..
just want to help.
Sense is bloatware? okay, nice to know

I feel the same way about the HTC sense interface.
What I did was install the Google Now launcher so that took care of part 1.
Then I side loaded the google dialer ver 2.5.11 rc8-20511
Then I side loaded the google contacts
Then I installed from the play store google Messager and Google calendar and Google Clock.
I then turn off blink feed and now the phone is 99% like stock android!
I also installed Chrooma keyboard or you can go with swift key!
Hope this helps you cause now I'm loving the phone!

It looks like a great option! I tried it yesterday, but I have one (yet) issue, phone is not ringing, when incoming call... I gave it all permisions I could, but no sound and no vibrations, just on display
I installed Google dialer 7.0.140861421-nonnexus from apkmirror.com.
I found this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/stock-google-dialer-ringing-loudspeaker-t3373657/page4
but there isn't any working solution as I know. Maybe something with root permisions is working?
I will try later and older versions of dialer, but I'm afraid there isn't any working, when noone here get it done...
I would suggest you to try resurrection remix ROM. I think it's the best AOSP ROM out there. Just like you, I have a minor OCD and hate the sense lockscreen, dialer and everything. Gets boring after some days.
I installed Lineage OS yesterday night, and now I'm testing it. So with open Gapps it bring me what I wanted! This ROM looks nice.
I don't think HTC sense is boring, it's just tragic...

How is lineage at the moment, many significant bugs? Since there's no stable version yet, you are using the nightly, right? Since they release one new version every week, how does the updating process work? It's like and OTA update?
Cheers

It is very stable and one of the best performing ROMs right now, although I had stutter issues few months ago. It's pretty much gone in the newer versions. I'm using this as my DD and I haven't had a single bug till now. The updating process is just like stock. There's updates tab in about where you can see the available nightly. You can download it and will be flashed automatically in the recovery. Just make sure you have the latest version of twrp installed.
Badelhas:
As you say, it's nightly, I didn't really noticed it much, because there weren't any more stable, than this nightly But I read here on the main LineageOS topic, that there aren't any major bugs, so I tried it.
There are some (important) features (rather than bugs) not running - you cannot use home button to wake up phone like on stock ROM (without fingerprint). So you have to use phone as Nexus f.e.
One night, i had about 50% battery and fell asleep, than get up before morning and discovered, that phone is very HOT and without energy! I think I read about this bug somewhere, but don't remember where. Anyway it happened only once and I installed an update from that time.
I didn't know how it goes, because immediately after first install of this ROM it offered me an update, but failed every time before download completed. So I waited some time and finally this week downloaded latest version via update notification, did backup for sure and then installed it. It switch off and then boot into TWRP and did installation, everything alone without any interaction needed.
Then booted (quiet long for the first time) and that's all.
Maybe there is something more, I will let you know, when I remember.
