Is there an online version of the kitchen? I ask because it is the last resort to get a fully functional Rom on my evo before I allow my daughter to have it other than using my nandroid of my original and unrooting.
I use a 64-bit system Windows 7. Done research and it says a 32-bit Java will work but that is false. I have spent from 9am until an hour ago (3:30pm here now) formating my hard-drive and reinstalled my OS because it didn't work. Still the kitchen doesn't find Java although I tried to instal a 32-bit version. Online is the only way I can do anything or I need a step-by-step on what I need to do to an apk where I can do it on my phone or I am in need of someone building a Rom. So.....is there one online?
What are you doing? Making a fully functional ROM? Why not take a stock rooted or a working GB ROM like reloaded?
Yea just get a stock 5.07 rooted rom. Not really sure what you're trying to do

I am letting my daughter have my Evo. She has been hardcore blackBerry but given their status she is wanting to try Android. I have flashed every Rom on the first 10 pages of Development and what she has settled on as far as wanting most is Energy Rom. There are 3 problems stopping her from being totally happy with it. First is the 9016. After a lot of searching all I can find is it is tied to the Phone.apk. I have been unsuccessful at changing it out. The carousel shows only a grey screen when looking in Personalize but have been unsuccessful at getting the one from Mik3D installed and working since I know the one from that Rom works. The browser not going to mobile view and being to wide unless in landscape has been the only thing I have fixed. i used Root Explorer and deleted it and moved a basic stock in. Somehow it worked although the other things haven't. I had decided to try my hand at the kitchen to see if I could make the changes that way but it doesn't work on my PC regardless of what i try and believe me when I say I have taken extreme measures to make it work. So my hopes are that either someone can point me in the right direction on how to exchange an apk using only what tools I can find for my phone or in the direction of a kitchen online. For my phone I have installed: Root Explorer,File Manager and ZipSign2.

She's that picky? Tell her to get an iPhone. LOL
Even she is smart enough to know the first flip phone I ever purchased from Sprint way back when they finally got small enough to fit in your pocket is still better than the best Apple ever released.
However, with a little help I think I can make my life easier. I flashed Derp3D again and only 2 small things needed. First is the keyboard. How do I get the HTC back on and with dictionary? Last is how do I get the weather widget with sound? Those are the only things needed. Themes will be easy enough to handle.
Have you tried MikG v3.11 ? Uber Stable. Has a lot of Themes, and Mods available.

The newest Jellybread has the 9016 number blocked, or you can use Go SMS and blacklist it, plus everything else you mentioned works

The kitchen won't help you for fixing the things you want to fix )besides the fact that there isn't an online version). The kitchen just essentially makes it easier to do the things you're already doing. But EnergyROm is a Sense 3.5 ROM, which is not what the EVO natively comes with. So, there will ALWAYS be issues with it, like the VVM 9016 texts, no 4G, etc. And trying to swap things in from a Sense 3.0 ROM (Mik3D) will only cause more issues. I think you're going to have to "put your foot down" and let your daughter know she can either have a fully functional ROM that doesn't look exactly as she wants, or she can have the eye candy she wants without full functionality.
There are plenty of fully functional ROMs out there with a Sprint base that don't have the 9016 issue. Honestly, those all seem to be extremely minor issues to me. Sounds like you should just bite the bullet and get her an EVO LTE, lol.
I have seen a lot of good reviews of Kendall's ROM, though. But I'm going to assume that's not what your daughter is looking for. Sounds like she likes the look/widgets of Sense.
I remember back in the day I tried a sense 3.0 rom that didn't do the 9016 or whatever, but I don't see how that bugs her. Its just a text message that would only take 2 seconds to delete. When I ran those roms, it wasn't a big deal to me.
With the sense weather part, still didn't have a problem with that either. Just had to turn sound up.

Is there a custom rom out that allows a "Call Blocking" mode, with a whitelist feature?
The stock Galaxy S3 from AT&T has a call blocking option, which is toggle on or off, and within that, you can choose to whitelist certain contacts, so for example, my phone has call blocking turned in at night, but yet certain work people can ring my phone no matter what, my family, etc.
That's the basic piece that would be awesome. To make it beyond perfect, having the option to let text sounds, email sounds, and phone sounds come through for a designated contact would be the icing on the cake.
It's the one feature I've missed from my old Blackberry, the sound profiles and the "exception" list was above and beyond great.
Thanks,
10k
AW: Custom ROM with whitelist feature.....
Not a custom ROM but an App (needs root though). Give LBE Security Manager a shot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422479

This is also the reason why I've stuck with AT&T's stock firmware for so long. I wanted to try out Rogers' stock firmware on my i747, but I wanted to know know if there is a way to tell what bloatware comes in each carrier released version. I'm just being told that Rogers has less bloatware than AT&T, but I have no way of telling how much less bloatware as I want to get good battery life without the device being unstable. Custom ROMs no longer interest me unless its something that adds features from the Note2.
I'm trying to look for the APK file that you wanted that you can play with it from the stock ROM I had extracted earlier.
That's what I've been doing too. I've tried quite a few ROM's over the time I've had Android devices, but that one feature is something I actually really appreciate having.
I am currently using the stock AT&T ROM on my device, rooted it, and went nuts with root uninstaller (a few times a little too nuts, but CWM saved the day). It's running well, but I do miss how great some of those custom rom's do with battery life and speed.
Instead of looking for a ROM, why not simply install an app like touch pal contacts that had option for both white listing and black listing.

I actually haven't found one that does what I want, cleanly anyway. I'll try your suggestion out.
If you are looking at AOSP roms you will need to look at the Play Store or some mods. A couple mentioned here are not bad but like you said, they may not be as "easy" as what you want. You can always try some customized ROMS based off the SGS3 stock ROM. I have tried one or two with the Blocking Feature (maybe more but since I have only recently started using it I didn't really look for it).
Hello everyone, after trying many 4.4 ROMs to find one with the features I want that worked good on my phone, finally I found AOKP and everything seems to be pretty solid, however what is up with the pathetically lame lockscreen? I can't even set up custom slider shortcuts or anything. I would just like to be at least able to have a shortcut to camera, gmail, and messaging on the lockscreen but this one apparently doesn't offer anything but unlock or enable widgets (which I don't care for necessarily). Am I missing something, or did they just decide to go with the lamest lockscreen imaginable for this ROM. I tried so many options from the Play store but they are all so buggy and don't allow me to use my home button normally. Ughh its so frustrating to come so close to perfect after trying so many different ROMs. Thanks for any help or suggestions!
UPDATE
Nevermind I just found out the camera is really glitchy and slow, so I'm giving up on 4.4. Went back to CM 10.1 which is the only non-touch wiz rom that can seem to get it right. I wish CM would release CM 11 for Note II oh well guess I'm stuck.
cm11 is out. just in unofficial version. and if you want a 4.3 rom, try an older version of aokp. which can be found on there web page. either way am pretty sure theres a rom out there that does what you want. you just need to do some searching to find whats available for a note 2
As many of you lads know, Lollipop has just began rolling out to Unlocked and Dev editions of One M8. I am really eager to give it a shot but unfortunately for me Xposed is no longer supported, it wouldn't be the end of the world for me because I am only using Tablet Metrics, Greenify and Sense 6 Toolbox on it. I have already managed to find a workaround for my Spotify problem so I'm left with just the Toolbox problem.
The thing is, that toolbox packed some really cool features which I actually used, one of my most favorite features was "Disable SMS --> MMS conversion". What currently troubles my mind is - how the heck am I going to use it on Lollipop? I love messaging and I'm one of those guys who really hates to split his messages in parts. Are there any workarounds for that?
Hi guys!
I have had a HTC M8 for over 2 years and have loved it very much. I didn't like sense very much so I put the google play edition ROM on there so that it was just running stock android and it became my dream phone. I decided to upgrade to the HTC 10, but sense is driving me insane again (although it is much better) i do just want to go back to stock android again. There's no GPE version of this phone, is there still a way that I can go to stock android on my HTC 10?
Thanks in advance
Brad
Great question, and I wish there was an option, in some settings somewhere to just reboot into stock Android, but sadly nothing like that.
Only option is to wait for CM13 ROM's to come out this Summer to get away from Sense
There will be non-sense ROM's out soon.
Btw, if you just replace the launcher to something like Nova or whatever you like, Sense is basically not even there anymore.

Thank you for your reply Glad it wasn't a stupid question.
So Cyanogen Mod is effectively just stock android? Or will there be subtle differences between that and the Google Play Edition ROM that I'm used to?

Yes I did install the Google Now launcher, and it has definitely helped, but there are still some little things about Sense that are driving me crazy. Little things... I just have minor OCD... I hate HTC's lockscreen clock, I don't have my location services on all the time, so the lockscreen clock gives me a "weather unavaliable" error 24/7. I don't even want weather on my lockscreen. And also it drives me crazy that I can't install Google's phone app, that is way better than HTC's. And also I can't uninstall Instagram, and Facebook etc, apps that I don't even use!
I know these things probably seem silly to most people but they're really annoying to me, hence why I want to go back to lovely stock Android! Do you know if I could achieve what I want simply by rooting my phone? Or would flashing a new ROM be the only way?

Try Nova, honestly it makes GPL seem silly. As for the lockscreen widget, I'm trying to get rid of that myself so let me know if you figure it out :silly:
The unwanted apps like facebook/insta have been disabled on my phone so they don't run background services and I have used nova to hide the icons. They may as well not exist on the phone but unfortunately I can't remove them completely..at least not without root, which leads to my next point...
You can achieve most of the things you want (removing system apps etc.) with root. Short of wanting additional features (even this can be done via xposed to be honest) baked into the OS or wanting a pure stock experience, you can achieve what you need with root. However, I won't go into all the details with the issues with unlocking your BL and rooting and doing S-Off etc.

That's not stock Android, it's just a debloated Sense ROM.
To the OP, CyanogenMod is close to stock. Think of it as stock Android with tweaks and additional customization.
so you have an working cm Image?!
just share with tue community
I d said a "clean version of stock rom".
did not say that is gpe or aosp..
just want to help.
Sense is bloatware? okay, nice to know

I feel the same way about the HTC sense interface.
What I did was install the Google Now launcher so that took care of part 1.
Then I side loaded the google dialer ver 2.5.11 rc8-20511
Then I side loaded the google contacts
Then I installed from the play store google Messager and Google calendar and Google Clock.
I then turn off blink feed and now the phone is 99% like stock android!
I also installed Chrooma keyboard or you can go with swift key!
Hope this helps you cause now I'm loving the phone!

It looks like a great option! I tried it yesterday, but I have one (yet) issue, phone is not ringing, when incoming call... I gave it all permisions I could, but no sound and no vibrations, just on display
I installed Google dialer 7.0.140861421-nonnexus from apkmirror.com.
I found this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/stock-google-dialer-ringing-loudspeaker-t3373657/page4
but there isn't any working solution as I know. Maybe something with root permisions is working?
I will try later and older versions of dialer, but I'm afraid there isn't any working, when noone here get it done...
I would suggest you to try resurrection remix ROM. I think it's the best AOSP ROM out there. Just like you, I have a minor OCD and hate the sense lockscreen, dialer and everything. Gets boring after some days.
I installed Lineage OS yesterday night, and now I'm testing it. So with open Gapps it bring me what I wanted! This ROM looks nice.
I don't think HTC sense is boring, it's just tragic...

How is lineage at the moment, many significant bugs? Since there's no stable version yet, you are using the nightly, right? Since they release one new version every week, how does the updating process work? It's like and OTA update?
Cheers

It is very stable and one of the best performing ROMs right now, although I had stutter issues few months ago. It's pretty much gone in the newer versions. I'm using this as my DD and I haven't had a single bug till now. The updating process is just like stock. There's updates tab in about where you can see the available nightly. You can download it and will be flashed automatically in the recovery. Just make sure you have the latest version of twrp installed.
Badelhas:
As you say, it's nightly, I didn't really noticed it much, because there weren't any more stable, than this nightly But I read here on the main LineageOS topic, that there aren't any major bugs, so I tried it.
There are some (important) features (rather than bugs) not running - you cannot use home button to wake up phone like on stock ROM (without fingerprint). So you have to use phone as Nexus f.e.
One night, i had about 50% battery and fell asleep, than get up before morning and discovered, that phone is very HOT and without energy! I think I read about this bug somewhere, but don't remember where. Anyway it happened only once and I installed an update from that time.
I didn't know how it goes, because immediately after first install of this ROM it offered me an update, but failed every time before download completed. So I waited some time and finally this week downloaded latest version via update notification, did backup for sure and then installed it. It switch off and then boot into TWRP and did installation, everything alone without any interaction needed.
Then booted (quiet long for the first time) and that's all.
Maybe there is something more, I will let you know, when I remember.
