Stuck on charge - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody else have an issue with their m8 where on occasion it gets stuck showing its charging after unplugging? It doesn't happen all the time , and a reboot fixes it, but I'm planning to send mine in. Just curious if mine is buggy or if it's a known issue. Happened when I originally purchased and continued after rooting/romming as well.

I never charge with my phone off so only with it on. Since a reboot fixes it I can't imagine it would mess up with it off though. I'll try it a couple of times just to see, I'm curious now

No. It's done it out of the box, and continued even after rooting and I'm now on viper Rom so I'm pretty sure it's the phone

i would try
fastboot erase cache
and see if that helps. Sounds more software related.

I had the same problem on an htc one x, it doesn't happen occasionally but it was a problem with the software. try fastboot erase cache as thay guy said. hope it works

Bricked, or Broken?

I've had a G2 for a couple of years now that hasn't been working. I've exchanged batteries, but cannot get anything to boot. The phone was having problems with freezing prior to the supposed brick, and the phone is completely stock.
As of now, I have it plugged in via USB and I didn't hear any sort of notification that the computer even recognizes the phone, my other android phones will get picked up with the power off.
Long story short, is there a way to get into "upgrade mode", or something similar that HTC might have? Something from ADB that could trigger the phone to power on in the hardware doesn't power on itself?
Thanks.
EDIT: The charge LED does NOT come on while plugged on to the charger.
well before i say no can you get a battery that you know works and try this first

Try what? I've tried another battery in the past. But shouldn't the LED come on when plugged into USB with or without battery?

Check that the leads on the battery are touching the contacts in the phone properly!

not always, if it were just a weak battery than yes but if it malfunction in some ways than no. our phone need to send power through a working batt to turn on

well chances are you will need to open it up and use a soldering station to fix it then. maybe someone else here has a good tip for you to try but my best guess is it will be sold for parts

Stupid thing has water damage..the VOID sticker wasn't where it was supposed to be, but I saw some pink residue from the sticker. I'm gonna take it to see if I can get it fixed. I believe it's worth it, it isn't the first batch of G2's, it was one of the warranty replacements that didn't have those weird issues.
Take a multi meter to the contacts with the phone open. See if any power is getting through.

Have you tried resetting? If you have, does it still do it?
If so, maybe take it back and ask for an exchange. It shouldn't do what you're describing.

It has inadvertently turned off data use. Mine did the same thing. Flip it into airplane mode, flip it off. I hope the bugs I am finding get fixed along with signal and battery life.
I've unlocked mine and some icon's have randomly moved screens. Not sure whats up with that.
Also today on my drive home I got the wonderful Droid DNA faint ringing thing (Google it). I'm assuming it was a temp warning? as the phone was warm since I was using google maps, streaming pandora, and taking some pictures of the sights every once in a while, all while it was plugged into the car charger.
Annoying thing is it wasn't just out of the handset. the constant faint ringing goes through bluetooth audio also so my pandora and navigation CONSTANTLY has this stupid ringing going on.
I disabled fastboot and shut it down when I got on a road that I needed to stay one for 100+ miles to cool off, powered back on and didn't do as much at the same time (Switched to my iPad to stream pandora) and it seemed to work fine for the next 5 hours. still not doing it as of now.
Anyone have anymore info on that faint ringing?
Wondering if this is a bug or just not something the ONE is capable of.
Focusing well, especially in Macro Mode. My previous HTC phones focused as close as 2 or 3 inches. My ONE has to be at least 8+ to focus.

[Q] Is this one x just gone for good?

Hello, I'm new to this form. Okay so today I traded my galaxy note 1. For a nexus 4 and an HTC one x. I was really excited to see the one x for the first time. The one x is with AT&T. When I took it home and plugged it in the charger the red light on started to flash which I think means the battery doesn't have enough power yet, so I waited until it would be steady. But when I looked at it after about 10mins or so, there was no light at all. Unplugging and plugging back in didn't work. When plugged in for along time it just keeps flashing red for abit then stops (repeatedly). I can't power it on at all or go into bootloader.. Etc.. I've even tried doing the hold volume up and down with power button for 2 minutes, nothing.. So now I'm just thinking it's defective. But before I sent it to HTC to diagnose it, I wanted to see what you guys think it is and how I can possibly fix it. Now the person I got it from said it needed some kind of jtag fix for $50 but idk what this is at all. I'm just hoping to god it isn't the main board that is damaged. The bottom area where the soft buttons are is cracked but it's not serious. Another thing that I'm not sure is normal, is the power button, it feels very soft when I press on it and I can't feel it click at all htc told me this could be normal cause the newer one series phones had soft power buttons. I thought the power button was the issue, but the phone won't even charge. The most I've left it plugged it was about less than an hour, I also saw people saying if you plug it in a computer it can fix it, but Idk how that will solve the issue, I will be going to a friends in the morning to try that though. Anyways that's about all.. I hope that someone can help me with this, and If I can fix it I will be sooo happy! Before I go to bed I will leave it plugged in all night to see what happens. Thanks.

Seems that way, if it does not turn on after hours on charge. And all button combinations don't work either.....then yeah, nothing you can do really.

If i send it to htc they will be able to do something to figure out what's wrong right? I mean everything is fixable.
Sent from my Incredible 4G LTE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes everything is fixable, but it might cost you money. If it's not rooted or custom rommed (locked bootloader) then you have the biggest chance on getting warranty.

Hmm. Well is it normal that the power button feels soft and no kind of clicking in it to know weather it is being pressed down or not? Also if the phone is flashing red when charger is plugged in does that mean the port is still okay?
Sent from my Incredible 4G LTE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well mine has a little click when i press it. Can't say for other hoxes, haven't had that many in my hand.
Yeah port is fine, my guess it's a hardware fault. Maybe the battery itself is faulty or the battery circuit is not functioning the way it should

I've left it plugged in for about 40m and it's just blinking red every 7 or so mins. My power button I'm afraid is broken.. Maybe that's why I can't get any signs that it can turn on or not.

Well the blinking should be static red after a while. Leave it on charge for many hours (8-9) and then try again some button combo's

[Q] Vibration suddenly doesn't work

Yesterday I noticed my Haptic feedback wasn't working. I tried ticking every setting and seeing if I could find what turned it off. Doesn't work when I receive a text, a call, or even when the alarm goes off. So I downloaded a vibrator app and it doesn't work. Suggestions? Halp?

Hmm so it's not a kernel issue then. Even when I boot up the phone there's no vibration that usually indicates the boot up. Even in TWRP I don't get any feedback when selecting options. Faulty motor?

I got my device from an At&t authorized seller about a month or so ago. The feedback occasionally does come back for a few seconds before dying off again. Very odd. I haven't tried flashing a new rom but I did a factory reset yielding no results.
Guess I'm gonna need to take the HTC advantage.

No I just made a back up and noticed it wasn't working on twrp.

Hmm I'll try flashing another ROM today and if that doesn't work, I'll have to unroot, which is totes lame.
I installed PA Alpha 1 with Furance OC kernel. Bought the Faux Clock app so I can **** with the kernel settings and no go. Looks like I gotta look into making my device look completely stock and get it sent into HTC..

LOL just that unrooting seems like a bit of a tedious process. And I don't really have access to a windows pc, since the program is a windows one. Oh well, I'm just wondering if this is a common occurrence amongst other M8 owners or just happenstance.
Well. You can just take it to the warranty department. My only thing I think they would trip about is the red text screen. I'm gonna s off and fix that tomorrow.
Sent from my One M8 using Tapatalk
My M8 hasn't had this issue...
However, the LG G2 I had a few months back did. It worked great one day, and had no vibration the next.
I wonder if smartphone companies are just buying cheap vibration motors nowadays to save cost, and the cheap motors blow out easy or defect often.
