So not sure if it's a defective device or just needs a software update but my signal is horrible compared to my Note 3. In areas where I would get full bars of LTE on the note I'm only getting a few bars of just 4g on the M8. Also likes to switch back and forth a lot. Last night was at the bar with a buddy. His G2 had full bars of LTE, my m8 barely had 3-4 of 4g no LTE. I remembered my Note 3 before the KitKat update signal was horrible, after it was great. Anybody else experiencing this?

Kind of a stupid topic but thought I would ask. Has anyone else in the Thornhill/Vaughan area noticed much stronger HSPA/3G signal strength?
In my entertainment room in the basement I used to get NO HSPA/3G signal and always switched to Edge (2G) so I can make and receive phone calls. I would also get about 1-2 bars in 2G (Edge). Today however I noticed that I got full bars HSPA/3G and they stay full. I thought it was a bug and noticed my iPhone also had full bars.
So anyone else or am I just bugging out?

You can use something like Open Signal Maps to see the towers around. They probably just put up a new one near your house...

I have no idea but I'm getting nearly 7000mbps in my basement lol.

7000Mb/s or 7000MB/s?
Anyway, regardless of units, you seem to have a super internet connection using HSPA+/HSPA
My guess is 7Mb/s.
I have a Galaxy Nexus on I Wireless which is a T-Mobile affiliate. When I am holding my Gnex without moving the signal will go from 1 or 2 bars of H down to 1 or 2 bars of Edge and then will go up to 4 bars of Edge. It will then maybe go back up to 1 or 2 bars of H. I don't cover the antenna with my hand either since I am right handed. Also, I will have 4 bars of H outside of my school then go in school and have no H only Edge. One last thing, when I was at school, I turned on my phone and had 2 bars of H for about 30 seconds and it definitely was H speed when I was using an app. After 30 seconds or so it went down to 4 bars of Edge and stayed there. Why if HSPA+ was working fine would it go down to Edge?
Please Help,
Thanks In Advance
(P.S. I have tried multiple base bands and the one I am using right now is the best of all that I have tried. I am using XXLA2.)

LA2 is an European baseband.
(did some research)
it seems your network operates on several bands, since it uses Tmobile access and transmission equipments. GSM, UMTS and supposedly AWS; since AWS uses for downlink, a subset of UMTS frequency band, it might be that your device is either defective, or it switches too much between AWS and UMTS, on the places you go to everyday.
i would just go back to full stock, then go in a store and let them watch network coverage go haywire; then return it.
relock your bootloader before you do go in the store.
At the store there is 3 or 4 bars of HSPA+. It seems like when there is only 1 or 2 bars is when it happens.

Might be refurbished? I would definitely get a refund if it came unlocked already.

I have heard of some galaxy nexus coming factory unlocked before. Also, I know that I am using a European baseband but it works better than any north american one. What do you think about it only happening when there is 1 or 2 bars?

I live in LA, close to the LAX airport and I just noticed that my signal is only 1 bar. My note 2 is always full bars. Do I have a defective unit.
Below is the result for the speedtest.

Both my wife and I always had lots of bars. Ever since we bought LTE devices we now have 1-2 bars. Was your bars full with an LTE plan and device prior? If so then its faulty.
If you take the back cover off and flick the back area the signals get stronger? LOL Just like a gas guage on an old car.

I assume tmobile put me on lte plan since I bought the note 3. This is only when I use the lte mode on mobile network settings.

Yes, I understand on GSM I have 4-5 bars on LTE 1-2 bars. One mostly though.
Heh you're not the only one. T-Mo LTE is pretty bad for me in the parts of LA/Riverside Counties that I frequent the most. Sometimes I get a good pocket of LTE signal where it's like 20/5, but even then it's very inconsistent and times out a lot. I'm a mobile gamer and (planned to) do a lot of downloading away from home, so an inconsistent connection is useless to me. I even time out downloading from Google Play. Pretty bad service IMO. I can only hope our area is flushed out more in the future.
I just changed my settings to GSM/WCDMA and went back to HSPA+. It's a lot slower, but at least it's consistent enough for gaming/streaming.
Is the T-Mo Note 2 an HSPA+ only device? Or was that LTE too?

Maybe it's just me but in the past week the signal has gotten terrible. I get 4G lte but like no bars. In Areas Where I Normally Get Full Bars And Great Signal . But when I do get is great speeds up to 19mb down .

I got my Note 3 a couple of weeks ago, and my signal is terrible 99% of the time. I rarely get more than one bar, and I get 3mbps download and 1 upload on LTE. With my T-Mobile S4 at the same address, I easily got 4-5 bars and 30mbps download and 5-10 upload. I'm thinking modem issue, but then again I'm on KitKat, and it seems everyone's having one issue or another. Anyone else feel like the signal quality has gone down from the S4 to Note 3 for them?

I switched to the note 3 from an s4 and feel the signal is a LOT better on the note 3. Even more improved on kitkat. Maybe you got one with a bad internal antenna connection?

Signal is a lot more better with note 3. Maybe it is in your signal reception.

Yep, flashed back to stock NB4, which is what it came with. No change. What I recently noticed is, if I make a call, my signal goes up to full bars, but as soon as I hang up it drops immediately.

mine was not stable also, but its not so poor or low signal

I think so. I am planing to talk to T-Mobile to sure about this.
There are times that it would go high and suddenly go down. But usually my signal is stable
