[Q] Should I get a Galaxy Note 2? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm currently debating whether to get the Galaxy Note 2. I do have the Galaxy Note 3 and I basically wanted to try out the Galaxy Note 2 to see the difference. I've heard good and bad reviews, but I'm not entirely sure if it's going to suit my needs of messaging, social networking, calling and occasionally gaming. Is this phone worth the money and what features does it include which make it better than other phones?
Thanks!

Note 2 is awesome. I gave mine to my wife then got LG Flex but camera and screen was better on note 2 so I ended up returning the LG and got a second hand Note 2 again.
Why would you down grade, are you still in the retune period??

note 2 rocks. don't know why you'd want a downgrade if you already have a 3 though. i'm waiting on the 4 then i'll upgrade

Galaxy S III or Galaxy Note II?

I currently have the Galaxy S III on Sprint that I got the day it was released. However, I am switching to AT&T next week, and I don't know if I want to get the AT&T Galaxy S III or the Galaxy Note II. I love my Galaxy S III, with my one wish being that it had a quad-core processor. With the Note II, I love everything, except it seems like it might be too big. However, I have big hands, and I don't use my Galaxy S III one handed anyways. I also do a lot of texting/emailing.
What do you think? Is the Galaxy Note II worth the extra $100 or so? Does it run really fast, smooth, and speedy compared to the Galaxy S III? Also, can you use third-party keyboards using the one-handed setting like you can with the stock keyboard?
Also, is it likely that both AT&T and Samsung will keep updating the Galaxy Note II over the course of the next 18 months?
The note 2 kills the s3. I went to the att store and played with both. If you're afraid it might be too big, go to att and check it out.

Its a personal preference. I use my phone for lot of reading so for me Note's big 5.5" screen and 310mAh battery are plus. Thats why I traded my S3 for galaxy note 2. But remember this phone is huge to carry.

I agree. The note II is bigger, faster, and has at least twice the battery life. I don't have huge hands and have no problems with it.

Pick up GN2 , use for a week & if your not digging it swap to GS3.
I'm betting that you will keep the GN2
Go for the Note 2. If you've got big hands you'll get used to it. (yes, that's what she said too)

Did the same thing as OP, even made a thread here about the same question. Sprung for the note 2, never looked back.

Same advice. Go for the Note 2. I had the first Note, but it was the international model on ATT and didn't have LTE, so I ended up getting the S3 when it came out, but I missed the Note so much. Almost went to ATT and got their version of the Note, but held out and waited for the 2, and now, its the great size, and the LTE....and its the happiest I've been with a phone in a while!

Try them both out at the store - I have a Note 2 and my wife has an S3. I love my note 2 but every once in a while I pick up the s3 and it really feels like the perfect size for a phone... both are great devices imo.

Having had both phones I must say that if the S3 had the battery to last a day I probably wouldn't have made the switch. I'm glad it didn't and I switched. I was toying around with the idea I was going to get a tablet but was hung up on carrying around two devices. Then my girlfriend got the N2 and I started playing around and found that is the best of both worlds. The extra screen real estate and battery life is awesome. It really doesn't feel funny or big after a couple days plus I can still use it one handed and I'm not a big guy. I would suggest the N2 to anyone.
Made the switch
I just made the switch from the SGS3 to the GN2. I would agree with a previous poster that if the SGS3 had a longer battery life, I probably would not have switched. But alas, it does and I made the switch and am glad I have done so. The phone is very responsive and the battery life is fantastic. I love the S-Pen and camera.
Both are great phones. Don't forget some carriers have a 14-day return policy (at least here in CA) so you can try it out but you might be subject to a restocking fee ($35 for AT&T).
Note 2 on 4.1.2 international firmware.

I owned an SIII for about 4-5 months and I just sold it for a Note 2. It's better in EVERY way. It's so good that it's the first Android phone I probably won't bother rooting to install a custom rom. Get it and live happily ever after knowing that you own the best phone in the world. :victory:

I am Glad not Buying Note 3

After watching some of the Video on YouTube of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I am Glad I did'nt sell my Note 2 there is not much of the difference compare to software wish and hardware wise little bit here n there and for some reason I like the shape of Note 2 compare to note 3. It would have been nice if they had made shape like Samsung Galaxy 4 but then again these are my personal thought for the Note 2. If anyone don't have any Note phone and coming from Note 1 to Note 3 there will be a huge huge difference and if they are thinking about buying then they should go for it & One thing I am a big fan of Samsung Personally.
Note 2 users dont "need" to upgrade. But new users of the Note series are going to get blown away. Im excited for them.
Even though there isn't a huge single upgrade for one particular spec of the note 3, it has almost every single component being tweaked to perfection. From gorilla glass 3 to a cpu that is much faster and less strain on the battery. Almost every little aspect of the phone is getting an upgrade, which in my opinion makes the phone with getting. Not to mention 1080p, even though the screen is nearly the same size. Also I can't believe no one is talking about how the loudspeaker is on the bottom bezel and not the back of the phone.

It is shaped like the S4.
Yea I'm not too impressed either. I'm actually glad because it makes the option of buying the xperia z1 that much easier. I can't wait for the z1 release

Question to former owners of Note 2

I went to store to play with Note 3. It is nice device, fast etc. Is that worth to switch from my Note 2 or skip this one and wair for next version? During store visit I like device but wow factor wasn't there.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Yes, I've had the Note 2 for almost a year and the Note 3 is way better in every way.
Just made that switch yesterday. I kept telling myself it was a negligible upgrade, that I'd be fine with waiting a while, but then... I played with the demo phone. Yes, it's very worth it. It's so much faster & the new features are stunning.
Yes. I had a Note 2 from the day it came out for TMob and an S4. I preferred the Note 2 to the S4 (battery life + screen size on the Note are the killer features vs. S4) but the Note 3 kills them both. Note 3 has better screen, better battery, better case, USB 3 faster charging/high speed transfer, IR (S4 has that too) list goes on but YES, the Note 3 is a much better phone than the Note 2 (I know its hard to believe ).
Sorry folks, this discussion needs to go here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466107

Just saw this thread and had some random thoughts about how to answer this. I got my note 2 on recontract 2.5 years ago and was the latest and greatest at the time. I've installed a new Rom (Thanks Ditto Note) which has the latest 4.4.2 version of Android and the applications for Note 3 and S5.
This is pretty cool (makes my phone feel brand new) but the reality is that Note 2 is not the Note 3. I think the screen is a big upgrade from the Note 2, bigger and crisper as well as better battery life. It sounds like you may be worried about the latest and greatest. I don't see many people complaining about Note 3 and going back to Note 2. Also Note 4 is supposed to be in the wings.
The only thing I would not recommend is if Note 3 IS NOT 4G/LTE (personally unless your network doesn't support, 4G/LTE is way to go). You may not use it but eventually, 4G speeds will be rolled out soon and good to have option.
Maybe someone who has gone from Note 2 to Note 3 may chip in and give their perspective.
Dont wory it will work all on device heavy games ,batery life is exelent ,it is not slow at all ,its fast ,you dont regret notging if you buy note 2

I agree with Zhousibo, that flashing DN3 does make the Note 2 awesome and brings many features from new devices like Note 3 and S5 to the Note 2.
I have a Note 2 with DN3 v5+ and it is working rather well, so personally I don't feel the need to upgrade to Note 3 yet. I'll wait and watch for Note 4.
However, you may not want to root and flash an alternate ROM immediately after purchase, especially if you might want to keep the warranty.
Also, Note 3 has better hardware like 1080p screen and also includes an IR sensor that can be a useful add-on with some of the new remote control applications in the market.
buy Note 3 , then save up for Note 5
otherwise you will regret after some time
its clear that the note3 screen is much better than note2 .(which i care more than the camera) so i will get the note3 with 4g version
thanks to all

Yep go for it. As soon samsung will forget it's phone like they tend to do.
2 years of life then they push their new models first. Note2 is close to the limit.
I'm not sure we will see 4.5 on our phone.
Long live custom roms.

Note 4 or Note Edge

Hi everyone. I just wanted to make a thread and see how many people were jumping ship to the newer devices. And why?
Note 4? - Is it really worth the upgrade right now?
Note Edge? - Is the new curved edge display gonna be functional enough being that it is completely new tech?
I'd like this to be a spot where we can debate differences, pros, and cons. Really just looking for other people's input because I'm really torn between the Note 4 and Note Edge.
Also my Note 2 is still in perfect condition, runs great, and does everything I need it to still. So I'm also deciding if I really need to upgrade or not. Decisions, decisions ?????
Sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

I am making the jump. I think the edge will end up like the Mega forgotten about shortly after its release.

Thank you for your input ?
Right now the only selling point for me with the Edge is just that WOW factor when someone does see you have it they'll probably be like "woah what phone is that", because of the edge screen.
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yea it has the wow factor. But they displayed the phone a year ago when they talked about the galaxy round which never made it to the U.S
I can't help myself...
I want a new phone every year. I know that some need to change even more often, but I get trapped into thinking I "need" the better screen, camera, etc. I love the Note product line. I've had all three. I have to say that the Note II was by far the best upgrade, so far. In fact, to be honest, going from the Note II to the Note 3 had as many downsides as upsides in my opinion. From my personal experience, the camera was not better - it had more features (mostly useless), but the autofocus did not function as well as the Note II. I had more blurry pictures on my Note 3 than ever on my Note II. You start to realize that once you get a good camera, the upgrade to higher MP isn't as important as having a good camera that just works. That was one of the letdowns I had with the Note 3. The other is battery life. First of all, the orignal Note had a horrible battery life and I thought that was just going to be the price of having for an enormous phone with a great screen. but the Note II solved that issue in spades! The upgrade to the Note II was worth it just for the battery life alone. The Note 3 on the other hand was a pretty serious downgrade in battery performance... at least from my experience. Which brings me to the topic of this thread (finally)...
I'm very concerned that the battery life will take a step backwards from the Note 3 to the Note 4. The screen on the Note 4 is unbelievable, but there is a price to pay in the battery. I find it crazy that the battery size was not bumped up to accomodate. I know they stated in their intro that it was something like 7% more battery efficient than the Note 3, but I don't think THEY even believed that, because it was just thrown in at the end. Instead they spent time talking about how they made it faster charging. I don't know about you, but I don't want to plug my phone in during the day, every day; even if it is only for 30 minutes for a quick charge. Battery life is just too important to me, as I learned from the original Note and I don't want to go backwards AGAIN. the Note Edge has an even slightly smaller battery and the extra screen that seems to have an "always-on" feature. I'm even more worried about that one.
Hmmm. Maybe I'll sell my Note 3 and buy a Note II and pretend that is my annual upgrade. HA!
FYI, last weekend, i saw the edge at best buy's on display on friday in san francisco. i went back on monday to see it again and it was removed.
Just setting up my edge right now, coming from n1, n2 and n3. Loved my n2 the best. Just got it a couple hours ago, but it's cool. Was going to get a n4 but they were out of stock.

I plan on getting the nexus 6 in a few months. I like the shape of it. Dual front facing speakers. Pure stock. I don't use the s-pen often. I have had the original note now the 2. I use straight talk prepaid AT&T Sim so the international 6 will be a perfect fit. And by February I may find one a llittle cheaper. I like the note series but the nexus 6 has the bigger screen and less crap and no TW. And I dont have to root it to have a pure stock android experience. I like the note 4 but I just like the N6 better.
