I get random reboots every now and then , especially when I connect my charger (magnetic or usb). I have .757 completely stock , clean install via pc companion , without root or anything. Is this a known issue ?

Hi, in the last few days i had two random reboots, one using camera and other using another app.
On 4.3 i didnt notice any random reboot.
Im also on the same firmware.
I'm on .757 generic uk (root & unlocked bootloader). I've never experienced any random reboots since I own the phone.

My GNEX is having some issues. A couple of weeks ago, the phone froze when I started the camera app. Not a disaster in itself, but when I pulled the battery, the phone wouldn't boot afterwards.
Now, since I've got CWM, a backup and factory reset was a breeze. I could now boot the phone again. But if I tried to restore from the backup, the phone would go back to bootloop.
The phone has been acting a "bit off" since then, with the occasional freeze and quite a few FCs.
Yesterday, a new problem surfaced. The phone refuses to connect via USB, and windows complains that it cannot recognize the USB device. The phone also either refuses to charge, or believes that it is charging when the cable is not plugged in.
So, I tried a complete reset and a new rom. No joy, the USB-problem still occurs. I've tried leaving the battery out for a while, without success.
So now I'm hoping to restore the phone completely and return it for service. Problem is, how can I do this without USB? Flashing the stock rom from CWM is easy, but how can I flash the bootloader and recovery image?
Transferring files to the phone is easy via eg. Dropbox.
You can use the Odin repacks and flash them with mobile Odin.

Hello Everyone
I tried to find a solution without troubling anyone, so I searched a lot and a lot of threads all over the internent with no hope . I have tried as many possiblesolutions as I could find even those which are not meant for xperia play. I will explain everythingvery clearly for those who want to help or even try to ...
The Problem :
My Xperia Play suddenly doesn't get pass the Sony Ericsson text at the boot screen which appearsas soon as you turn on the device. It keeps hanging on that white text on that black background for hours until I pull out the battery . I then found out that if I connect my charger before turning on the device it will boot normally as usual . I also found out that as soon as I disconnect the charger cable , the phone will immediately turn off. Another important issue is that even when I mamange to boot the phone normally by the charger , the screen does not respond to my touch even in CWM touch recovery in Doomkernel . Despite that , I can operate the phone completely using the key pad . That means the phone is full functional except for the " boot " and " touch " problems.
What I have done so far :
- I flashed different stock firmware FTF several time via Flash Mode including .42 , .58 enhanced , and .62 using flashtool with flashing ending in success each and everytime .
- I flashed different kernels via Fastboot Mode including DoomlordKernel v14 (GB ) , DoomlordKernel v3 ( ICS ) , and Lupusv11 ( ICS)
- I have accessed CWM recovery serveral times and formated each and everything that could be formatted including data , system , cache ..etc
- I have also tried flashing different ROMs such as NXT 1.3 and Markpython XPlay ICS
- I have put phone in a rice bag in case it had moister or water damage !
- I have disassemble the phone completelypart by part and found nothing damaged so I cleaned it and ressambeled it again
- I have left the phone for days without turning it on . I also tried keeping the battery out for several hours.
- I have used a replacement new battery just in case it was my battery has a problem.
- I relocked my bootloader and repaired my phone via Sony Update Service and the repairing process endedin success.
The results so far :
Nothing changed at all . After doing all of the above and repeating it. I even did more things I can't remember now.Everything is still the same. The phone is stuck at SE text at boot screen and if connected to charger then turned on it will boot normally but the touch screen doesn't respond for some reason I can't figure out , although the digitizer is intact.
What I am doing now :
- I have no more trick to try and I am totally depressed about this ZOMBIE Xperia Play which is half working and half borken.
Thank you very much for your time and for trying to help
I am waiting for your suggestions ...
For your touch screen problem, I doubt that the digitizer is damaged. As for your booting issue, I'm not sure.
looks like the battery doesn't give enough power to the phone

Maybe it is invisabely damaged . However, if I can't fix my boot issue , getting a replacement digitizer is just a waste of money.

The power turns on and the screen turns on when the I power the device. The problem is booting into the system.
It get stuck at Sony Ericsson text . However, it's very mysterious why the phone turns off when the charger is disconnected , perhaps the real question is : how come the battery powers the device but can not boot it and keep it running ?
You didn't say what version is your xperia play is. Is it R800x, R800i, R800a, R800at? If you have the xperia play CDMA version you cant use GSM kernel or roms.
I dropped my phone (after replacing the housing) and had the same thing happen to me. Opened it up again and the digitizer cable was loose. Fixed it for me.
EDIT- My phone would turn on without the need of the cable, but i couldnt mount my sd card/enter mtp unless i connected the usb cable prior to turning it on (so my issue was slightly different).

I already opened up my device and disconnected the digitizer cable and reconnected it and the touch was
still not working but I'll try it again as soon as I fix my boot issue. The phone doesn't boot to the system
unless connected to the charger prior to turning it on.
my phone is only 6 months old ... It runs perfectly when connected to charger but as soon as I disconnect it the phone turns off ... using a new battery doesn't solve the problem ... what could it be that causing this ?!
Final Solution to your problem
You will have to use odin. Just connect it to a laptop/desktop and run Odin. It will fix your problem and if this doesnt work you will have to send it to a Sony centre in your neighborhood. But I am sure odin will fix it. I had a similar problem once. So try odin.
Click thanks if you appreciate this

I never used this program before . I thought it was flashtool equivalent for samsung phones. I guess I was wrong. I really appreciate your help . Could you please explain more about the process. Give me steps to follow... Thank you very much I really appreciate your great help.
I'm pretty sure Odin is only for Samsung phones as the phone has to be in "download mode" for anything to work and well Sony devices don't have a download mode

Odin is only for Samsung phones, and I'm having an issue quite similar with my Play R800at. I just got it from a friend. It boots, continues up to ATT screen, then resets. I can't figure out how to boot into recovery, I can't find flashtool, I'm completely lost. I should have stuck with my S3.

Well Sony xperia devices don't have a stock recovery...so it should go into fast boot if you take the battery out and hold search on the phone, plug the USB into the PC and the phone led should turn blue and bam your in fast boot

I did fix the boot loop issue. If you download the Sony pc companion, hold the back button and plug the usb in at the same time, it will download a repaired version of the latest firmware and fix the boot loop.

Just wondering but did anyone solve the initial issue as the same thing has happened to my xperia r800i
1. Flash ftf with flashtool
2. Flash gb/ics/jb kernel
3. Flash gb/ics/jb rom via the kernel recovery
It should do it but kernel has to match the ROM.
Example: if i want to flash jb rom then I have to flash jb kernel.

Hey guys, so I'm trying to relock my bootloader using Flashtool by following the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
Just one problem. My phone keeps disconnecting from Flash Mode (the mode you get when you hold the down volume key while turning the phone on as it is connected to the computer)
It disconnects from Flash Mode after around 30 seconds. I DON'T want the phone to disconnect while I'm flashing the Relock Bootloader FTF that I got from the link above.
Is the phone disconnecting from Flash Mode a usual thing? Should I just try and flash the FTF before the phone disconnects?
P.S. I unlocked my bootloader by using this method and rooted the phone with this method.
I think your drivers aren't installed properly, try reinstalling them
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Yea make sure the drivers are installed and the newest flashtool. Also make sure to mount the phone to computer while on and in flash mode to make sure the drivers are installed.
Make sure your battery is full charge. It won't work if it's to low.

Thanks everyone.
Just one question: if I try to flash a relock bootloader ttf with Flashtool and it fails, would I have a hardbrick? Hardbricks are unrecoverable for the Xperia S, no?
AFAIK hard-bricks are hard, precisely because you can't recover
However.. i don't think relocking could be dangerous
Your problem is 90% probably related to drivers wrong-installed
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
As far as I know, that's a driver related problem.
I'm experiencing the same issue, because in the computer of my work I'm able to flash kernels from fastboot, but I'm not able to connect my phone via flashtool, the led just goes green for like 3 seconds and then my phone boots (and the computer freezes LOL). On my personal laptop there are no problems.
Try reinstalling the drivers and try again.
Btw, which OS do you have?

Oh, I have Windows 7 64bit.
But... I've determined not to flash anything haha. The only reason I wanted an unlocked BL was for Bravia Engine 2. Once I found out that Bravia Engine only works in the native music/video app, I stopped caring. I thought it would change the screen overall.
So I'm staying on that unlocked bootloader, unless I'm wrong w/ the BE2.
I have a Sony Xperia ION that reboots when the SIM is inserted in the phone. It will do a constant reboot cycle, load to the lock screen and restart. This only happens with the SIM is in the phone, if I take it out, the phone turns on just fine.
No root on the phone either. I also can't seem to connect the device to Sony PC Companion to do any updates either. Not sure what to do about that either.

Use PCC to repair your phone.
DO NOT connect the phone to PC until it asks you to do so.
Then press vol down while connecting the cable to your phone and wait.

Constant reboot when SIM/sdcard is inserted on ST18a
I'm getting a similar problem, constant reboots (sometimes reboots while still booting, sometimes it reboots after 5 minutes, very random) after inserting SIM/sdcard (or both) to xperia ray (ST18a).
The device works great after a fresh ROM install, but that is until I plug in either a sdcard or SIM, the reboot bug will then start and it wont stop until I remove the sdcard and sim and then flash the ROM.
This started suddenly with another problem, device randomly loses signal (other devices still worked fine).
I've flashed many different ROMs (some stock ST18a ROMs, also urushi's latest CM9,10 and 10.1), both from flashtool and CWM, tried different CWM boot.img recoveries, multiple factory rests, tried different SIM and SD cards, but the problem still persists.
I've tampered with V6 supercharger and Pimp my Rom beta before, could these apps change settings concerning sdcard/sim configuration that could still persist after all I've done?
I am using Note 2 since 1 and half year without any problems. Till date I have flashed many custom ROM's without any issues. Since yesterday my phone started acting weird. It boots up and within 10-15 seconds after system has started, it reboots. The process repeats like a loop and the phone is literally unusable. I was using Phoenix v18.8 ROM. I tried the following things
1) Formatted the phone completely and reinstalled ROM
2) Tried changing kernel to Nadia and Agni
3) Tried a different ROM to DN3 V5.2
4) Flashed official ND3 firmware through Odin.
5) Removed external sd-card
None of these have solved my problem. The only way I can get my phone to work is if i connect the phone using USB cable to my PC as soon as phone starts. Then again if i restart my phone the same thing happens.
So, is my phone dead ? Is there anything that I can do ?
Please help. Thanks

Have you tried a new battery? A bad battery also can cause strange reboots.

Try to plug your charger and see if restart stops. If your phone works then it's your battery. ..

Yes my phone is charging normally. And yes I have two batteries and tested with both. The problem persists.
The question is why your phone starts with USB connected ? That's where the solution could come .
If plug your charger the phone works/starts or only with USB connected starts?
