I installed cyanogenmod 11 on my kindle fire hd 8.9 and everything was working fine. However, lately I'm getting the message:
"insufficient storage available"
when I try and update some apps. The thing is that it doesn't happen with all apps. It seems to happen with Chrome, Titanium Backup, EDS Lite, and Adobe Reader. I have tried:
* installing the latest rom (4-28 jen nightly CM) and latest google apps
* clearing cache/davalik
* 'fix permissions' with rom manager
* uninstalling and reinstalling -- now I can't install the app
* tried installing 'lucky patcher', there was no 'remove fixes and backups' as described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1717897
I couldn't bring up any info on this error (except the above). Everyone that used to get this error was from old versions and had an external sd card. But with the kindle fire HD all the memory is internal. Any suggestions?
Try going into ES File Explorer > device > data > open app-lib folder and now remove/delete the apps giving you trouble. Now re-download from the Play Store. See if that helps.

Thanks for your reply LinearEquation. I only had two folders. One for Titanium backup, and another nested data folder (inside data) for an app 'ChefTap'. I deleted both folders for the apps, but I still cant update chrome.

You went to home then data. You need to tap device then data then app-lib. Every app installed will have a file in there. Be careful what you just go deleting. Make sure to run another Titanium Backup.

So I think the problem was that I wasn't in 'root view mode' (whatever it's called in the settings) of EStrongs. I logged into adb shell and found the folder you were referring to and deleted the folders after uninstalling and now they install fine.
Thanks so much for your help!

I will use TWRP to wipe the internal storage and userdata partation if i were you. just keep your important files and make a clean reset.

Maybe as a last resort but LinearEquation's solution was ****FAR*** easier than a clean reset.

I've tried to search around for some info but had no luck. I am also not allowed to post in the DT A2SD thread as I do not have a high enough post count. The problem is this:
A few apps that I am reinstalling from Titanium Backup are failing to install. I just partitioned my SD card (32gig class 10) to a 1gig EXT4 with a 32mb swap. I'm only moving apps and kept the Dalvik on internal memory for now. I started to restore my apps through Titanium Backup and the restore goes fine for awhile but then does a soft reboot toward the end. I've attempted this twice and had it happen both time. I am able to finish installing most of my apps when it turns back on except for 4. I get a failed to install from Titanium backup and the market when i try to restore them. My guess is that there is some partial installs from the soft reboot that are already on the EXT partition preventing them from installing. Any idea to a way to get these apps to reinstall again? Thanks for any help!
Cyanogen Mod 6.1.2
Darktremor Apps2SD 2.7.5.3 Beta 03a
Titanium Backup Version 3.6.7.1
Edit: Just moved Dalvik to SD and still no luck
Edit2: Solved! Delete the smdl2tmp1.asec file from your .android_secure folder on your SDCard
Edit3: By deleting the whole .Android_Secure folder I am able to install apps after it has issues with rebooting the rom after an app install.
Hope this helps someone!
I just had this happen with a few apps. I went into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and found some let overs which I then removed, which allowed me to reinstall.
The one I had was actually the XDA App. I found the com.tapatalk.xda file (something relatively close to that) removed and was able to reinstall.
Good luck!

I checked in there and the apps are not showing in manage applications either. Thanks for the advice tho.
Yeah I didn't have the full app in there either but I did find those com.* files when you look at all apps that seemed to be related.
I probably just got lucky and found that one to be the problem.

I even double checked for the com files and only have a few android ones that do not seem related to the apps in question.
Solved: I ended up having an error installing a new app from the market and got a error 18. Found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755970
I was unable to remove the file in terminal so I just booted into recovery, mounted my sdcard, went into the .android_secure folder and deleted the smdl2tmp1.asec file there. By doing that I was able to install the app I wanted and install my older apps from the market. Didn't even bother using TB to restore them just in case.
Hope this info helps someone else!
^^Nice work!
Glad you figured it out.
I mentioned I also had an issue with the rom rebooting after installing apps. I deleted the .Android_Secure folder and I was able to continue to install apps again. Just a FYI if anyone has the issue.
Yesterday I found that certain apps on my phone crash right after I launched them, including Kindle, Apparatus and some other apps.
I uninstalled them to see if re-installing could solve this, however it turned into the situation that I cannot install these apps any more no matter how
I tried re-installing them by Android Market, it just say the package file is not valid.
I tried launching the APK from file manager, it ends up with "app is not installed".
I tried using Titanium Backup to restore my previous backups, Titanium Backup just gets stuck with these apps.
I tried copying the APK file into /data/app, but after a reboot those APKs in /data/app simply disappear.
I tried using adb install command as well, the result is "INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT“
I have wiped my phone for many times, I even tried reflash Rom and Baseband. For once it worked after a Rom flashing, but after a reboot it bacome faulty again

Couldn't find much on this issue...
Just installed the ROM in my sig. I was trying to restore an app for testing without data. I copied the Titanium Backup folder from my SGSII. YouTube wouldn't restore so I tried another single app and Titanium Backup gets stuck on Restoring App. I tried with and without data and it fails for any app I try. Rebooted, no go. Unknown Sources is checked. I have never seen this across all my android devices. ANY IDEAS MAY VERY WELL PREVENT ME FROM THROWING SOMETHING. Thanks and that it's all.
EDIT:
So after some troubleshooting I tried setting the App Processing Mode to "AUTO, Indirect." This didn't work. If I use "INTERACTIVE," it works. I just have to restore them one-by-one.

I seem to have the same problem but cannot find the "App Processing Mode" in the preferences. Where exactly is it? I use the free version.

Pretty sure paid version only. I highly recommend it.
I'm stuck for now with the free version. Cannot get my contacts working.

I just ran into this, trying to restore my backup of the Chrome system app. It got stuck forever. You have to go MENU -> Preferences, scroll all the way down to find "Troubleshooting Settings" -> App Processing Mode -> and then pick "AUTO, Indirect" or "INTERACTIVE".
For me "AUTO, Indirect" is what worked.
Backup/Restore Apps using Titanium
Most custom ROMs will require you to do a wipe data/factory reset, which will erase all of your settings and apps. By using apps like Titanium backup app, you can easily backup and restore your apps. Even better, if you get a new Android phone, you can use this app to transfer all of your current apps with data to your new phone.
Seems to be solvable by updating SU binaries, using the SuperSU app.
Install SuperSu, Run it, it'll ask you to update binaries, accept, restart, then if root is broken go to SuperSu, go to Settings, and choose "Switch Superuser App", restart again - and boom, it should all work fine.
Titanium Backup
When restoring batch files on the titanium back up observe in what part the restoration stop more or less that app have an issue on the files being restored.
Also you should ensure that you still have available internal memory while doing the restore since app restoration on titanium backup directly go to the internal memory.
USB debugging
Try enabling USB debugging. Worked for me.
I have the same thing happening to me. The popup window just says "Restoring App" and the chaser keeps circling. I have the Pro key for TB installed. I have Super installed. I have changed the preferences as suggested in this thread. I think it's a whole lot easier to reflash the entire ROM and redo all your settings and preferences.
check super su setting
you would want to go to super su and then settings and then uncheck unmount separation box then restart then try and restore.... worked for me.
Should be second last from the bottom

Thanks for the tip mate, a few botched flashes and Kinguser installs later and that tip definitely made my day! Titanium Backup worked fine with Kinguser, but for some strange reason it didn't seem to budge with SuperSU. Turns out I had to unckeck that option.

thanks man, after spending a lifetime i tried your tip and worked for me :good::good:
Having trouble restoring both Boost Zone and Visual Voicemail backups. Both preinstalled system apps that I did full TB backups of for their latest versions. Tried all 3 restore options, the SuperSU settings, and also attempted to install a few .apk's I found, to no avail. (got "out of memory/space" error msg on both apk's) Sigh.... Really just need my VVM app back. Not perfect, but convenient.
I'm having problem with titanium bkp. I had backup all my apps with data on 5.1.1 and flashed 6.0.1 rom. Now titanium bkp doesn't detect my bkp.
Tried many things like
copy bkp files to internal,
just made an app bkp and copy my bkp files to that folder etc.
still my TB doesn't detect my old bkp

This is a common error that occurs with the Play Store sometimes after flashing ROMs without wiping data, or with an incomplete un-installation (apk corruption, etc.)
Simple to fix:
(I'm assuming you're rooted, chances are you are if you get this error)
- YOU'LL LOSE YOUR DATA FOR THAT APP (You would have done anyway, if it was uninstalled properly) -
1.) Using a root file manager, go to /data/data
2.) Find the package name of the app you're wanting to install
(Don't know the package name? Find the app you're wanting to install on the Play Store online and it's in the URL)
3.) Delete that folder. All of it.
4.) Try to install your app again, it should work now
5.) If you like, hit the thanks button
Already done that mate.. but still get the error with titanoum, data/data is empty now

last solution is factory reset ..if it fails too try a different rom
I just upgraded my N4 to Jasmine MM ROM. I installed TiBu and pro key. I go to preferences and browse to my SD card. There are 312 files in the folder. Then go to batch/run restore missing apps + all system data and the list is blank! Any ideas? BTW, it worked fine the first time and I was able to restore but then I screwed up the install trying to flash Xposed framework (did not do a nandroid!) so now that I've re-flashed the ROM, I get the above behavior. I don't think it should flag the files as having been restored should it? Restore all apps with data list is also blank.
In TB, go to preferences/Backup folder location, then click on Storage provider: Filesystem(click to change). Then click Filesystem storage. Scroll down and click storage. Then click on your sd card. Then finally click on the TB folder and click use the current folder. That should fix it. You have to do this everytime you switch to a new rom. Hope this helps.
