Hi all,
I was hoping one of the resident geniuses could help me here because searching and experimenting haven't worked yet. I bought a i337 because I'm on AT&T and when I found I could only run TW roms via SS (it was already on 4.4.2), I bought a M919, and I've got it rooted and running TWRP 2.7.0.1 and some new roms. I've been able to flash i9505 and M919 roms and then an AT&T kernel, but whenever I flash a i337 modem it doesn't take. The baseband continues to show it is on M919 NB4. Can anyone help me understand how to get the i337 modem? I can make and receive calls, but do sometimes see some signal drops and I understand this is the way to go.
Thanks!
I meant to mention I am flashing via recovery, and I understand ODIN may work but that runs the risk of impacting my bootloader (which I think is bad, as i337 is locked and I have a M919 anyway)? Can someone confirm? I'll keep trying recovery zips, but I wonder if it's something in the Tmo NB4 or bootloader keeping it from sticking?
Do not flash i337 modems.. What was the firmware you were on before you started flashing?

The phone came with latest Tmo firmware and the NB4 baseband. I'm running Phoenix ROM now, Ktoonsez kernel. Can't say for sure yet because I just got on this combo, but as I've been testing over last 24 hours I've seen a LOT of my phone dropping signal when the screen locks or sleeps (I think). I get the crossed circle and I have to go into Mobile Networks and have it search for a network to get my cellular signal back. So it isn't the Tmo modem impacting this? Will I get LTE? Are there any better options if the signal keeps dropping short of going back to that bloody i337?
Try flashing fenny's NB4 firmware with Odin, the modem shouldn't be the problem there have been people with same issues running T-Mobile. Flashing firmware should fix it.. Try running stock for a few days and see if you keep getting drops

This really can't be repeated enough.
NEVER flash modems meant for another device. Never.
Ever.
Man, I could swear I've seen folks recommending to do exactly that for all the bands to work properly and for the best signal. Thanks for setting me straight folks!

Hello all.
Is there another modem than the UVUAMDL version for the SGH-M919? Or a way to flash say, a i9505 modem to the M919?
The latest modem as of this writing is the UVUEMK2. Take a look at this thread here to see how to get the file and flash the modem.
Do not flash any other modems except the SGH-M919 modems. Flashing other modems will result in an inability of the phone to boot.

The thread you linked indicates to flash the UVUAMDL, and not the MK2.

No. There's no need to worry about Knox when it comes to flashing the modem. The only time you need to worry about Knox is if you flash the 4.3 stock recovery and ROM.
Much Appreciated

This totally worked. Thanks. No knox and new band. I'm still having a coverage issue however.

I'm also having issues with coverage. I came from a 4.2.2 ROM with MDL radio. Flashed darthstalker 4.3 ROM and I rarely got more than 1 bar of signal. So I flashed the Mk2 radio via Odin and still the same, one bar everywhere I go.
Any one else experience this?
Is 4.3 more accurately displaying my signal strength?
Or is this just normal?
My speeds are still pretty good with 1 bar....15mb/s down, and 2m/bs up

getting the same thing as well
did the flash to mk2, and, with all of you, i'm getting just 1 bar. didn't bother to check it since in my room, i tend to get at 2-3 bars; but, outside of that, the signal is usually quite strong.
another note, i'm using infamous alpha s4 12.04 rom, i'm not able to send mms or receive mms at all, period (while wi-fi is on). not sure if this is the same for all other 4.3 roms out there. i know of the data drops and what nots; but, haven't seen or read anything of not sending and receiving mms. usually, when i send mms, previously on infamous alpha s4 11r2 rom, it would go through just fine with no problem. the thing is, when sending mms it goes through 4G LTE since the 11r2 rom does not have wi-fi calling at all -- what this means is that even when on wi-fi the 4G LTE would come on the notification does it's sending and receiving animation and the mms would go through just perfect. but with the 4.3 12.04 rom it won't do that.
the only way to send mms, i found, was to disable wi-fi and wait for 4G LTE to kick in then send the mms. i don't like doing that, LOL. i like to be able to send mms even with wi-fi on without having to disable it (like with the 11r2 rom)
I have posted the solution to the signal problems you all are having in another thread. Go here and follow the instructions to resolve the issue.
quick question.
i have a stock rom (4.2.2) tmobile galaxy s4 with the ktoonz kernal, and i want to flash wicked v10 to it. wicked is a 4.3 rom, and im not trying to brick my phone.
ive been searching for a little bit, and i keep finding talk about flashing a bootloader and radio, or using odin to download a new modem... but i have yet to find any solid answers when it comes to this on the tmobile gs4. can someone provide some insight?

You shouldn't have any problems flashing Wicked V10. I'm still on the MDL bootloader and used a variety of 4.3 and now 4.4.2 ROM.
You might want to update your modem however (If you're getting data drop when screen off, if not no worry).

So DN3 looks great but its a N7105 rom, which apparantly is fine, except that it insists that i flash one of 3 modem options, none of which are for my phone. also i heard that for my phone (t889v), once you flash a modem for the wrong device you cant get the correct modem back again.
The T889v doesnt have a flashable modem available?

I tried that by replacing the modem.bin files in the rom's folders for the 3 modem versions with the wind 4.3 modem.bin, it took 2 flashes before my phone would start working but still had a no network symbol instead of signal bars. i also tried flashing the wind 4.1.1 modem through recovery after but no luck. i can see that others on the t889 have had success with this rom, so i should be able to use it on a t889v, cant figure out what the problem is.

I got it working by wiping basically everything except external sd, and incidentally soft bricking my phone, then going into download mode and using odin to flash a factory rom. got signal bars back, so then i reflashed custom recovery and tried flashing dn3 with a new modem again but im not having any luck with it.

Its not data. Its just plain network signal. Instead of seeing bars at the top right ive got a no smoking sign without the cigarette in the middle. Thats what i meant by "no network" symbol. Im pretty sure that its a modem issue. Strange taht flashing a modem over it wonrt work, and other than that the rom works perfectly, but not being able to use my phone to make calls is kind of a dealbreaker.
Most popular will be those listed on the first page of development
Thanks
FNSM
I am having a weird issue with my S4 running any Rom past 4.2. When I make a call, the signal indicator changes to the circle with a line through it. The call stays connected, but no data transfer is possible. Any attempt to access the internet results in an error. But the call stays connected just fine. Once I end the call the signal eventually comes back and I can use the phone as normal. If I try to make a call before the signal comes back I get an error (even though I was just on the phone). Rebooting the phone seems to make the signal come back faster.
Any 4.2 rom does not have this issue.
Anyone have any ideas?

Somehow the new baseband has made things MUCH worse. The phone is completely unusable now. It is EXTREMELY laggy. no sounds from screen touches at all. It didn't even do the t-mobile jingle on boot. When I try to make a phone call, the other phone rings before the S4 leaves the "dialing" screen. Talking doesn't work, no voice gets through in either direction. I would never expect this from a modem flash.
I can confirm on the about screen the new baseband is M919UVUFNB4
I tried wiping the phone, thinking somehow it needed to "start fresh" with the new modem. That did not help. Then I tried reflashing Fenny's 4.4.2 Stock ROM (same rom I was running before). Nothing helps.
What the heck is going on?!?

Sounds like you installed the NB4 LTE modem as well. (NON-HLOS) i think is the name. You only need to instal the actual modem as the LTE modem will do exactly what you are experiencing

You are exactly right. The modem tarball I downloaded had both, so I flashed both (woops!). I just finally got myself sorted out. Had to flash back to factory 4.2, re-root, install TWRP, re-flash 4.4.2, then flash the modem.bin (several times before it took). But! All my problems are resolved.
Thanks for the help guys.

Hi All,
I just recently returned to my trusty T999 Galaxy S3 and was wondering what modem I should update to? I just flashed CM11 and everything appears to be working properly except it says 3G in the status bar and not H+ (even though I'm in an HSPA/LTE area).
Currently I am on modem T999UVDLJA, which I believe is a 4.1.1 modem. Should I update to a 4.3 modem?(if so which one?) or stick with the 4.1.1 modem? I've read that once you update to a 4.3 modem you can't go back to 4.1 modems? Is that true?
All recommendations are welcome.
Thanks!
Once on 4.3 firmware you cannot use older modems. If on pre 4.3 firmware you can try the 4.3 one and go back if needed.
First, though, start a large download using mobile data. Go to settings, about device, status, network type. This will tell you your true connection type.
If hspa is not working, its much more likely to be a tower issue than a problem with the modem. Still, it doesnt hurt to try the other modems though!
LJA is very old, you need to update it so you can get H+ try the latest modem

Hi Doc,
You are correct, once i start doing a "large download" the data changes to H+ up top, so HSPA is working. Now with regards to pre 4.3 modems not working, I am running CM11 which is 4.4.4 and am running the old UVDLJA modem. In theory is this not supposed to work?
What modems are everyone using right now with the 4.4 ROMS?
Doesn't matter what rom you are on. Its the base firmware. If you have updated to 4.3 firmware, you must use the same or newer modem as the firmware build.
If running non touchwiz kk, as I understand it you can do so on older firmware. To run a touchwiz kk rom though, you must be on 4.3 firmware and thus a 4.3 modem.
You are using a non touchwiz rom, so as long as you are not updated to the 4.3 firmware, you can run the LJA modem without issue. Once you update to 4.3, you will have to use the 4.3 modem.

In terminal emulator, enter this:

What it returns is your base firmware build.
