Are you saying it's on when not in a call? If you're running a custom ROM, you might want to pay the issue in that thread.
Keep in mind that it's going to be brighter in a picture taken with a digital camera because the CCD is sensitive to infrared light. Just look at the front end of any TV remote through your phone's camera while pressing a button on the remote.

Not really sure on what is making it do that but I would check if he has any apps that might use it and same with any settings HTC might have added.

A proximity sensor IS an IR blaster just being used for a different purpose. You should not be able to see it with the naked eye, but video cameras can catch it due to shutter speed sync and such.
My thoughts are if it works on calls like its supposed to and you dont have a Major battery drain and everything else about your phone is perfect then leave it be. You (should) have 1 year to replace it under warranty if it fails. Otherwise if it is causing an issue get it replaced for sure.

My Wife has the SGS2 and she just upgraded from a Moto CliqXT. The feature that she misses is the blinking LED. Is there some sort of app that can be used to make one of the leds on the bottom keys to flash when she gets a notification? Hers is not rooted btw. I did a search but only with Tapatalk and the search engine with that is pretty vague.
Thanks in advance.

look for NoLED in Android Market
it's a homebrew App by local XDA devs
Thanks...but that's going to be a battery hog. I'm looking more into the led behind the hardware keys...making one of them blink when receiving a notificaton..

Wouldn't it drain her battery fast? The backlight would remain on for the duration of the notification, its not like the SGSII where it only illuminates the needed pixels.

You need a kernel that has BLN support.

there's no back light in OLED displays
that's the beauty of it, and reason why that App was coded
so, no you are not really wasting that much battery as you think with other devices when the scree is ON
because OLED screens only turn on the pixel necessary, the rest remains Off
so if you enabled NoLED for alerts on email or missed calls
you will only be lining up X amount of pixels, the smaller the picture the less battery it uses, as it needs to light up less pixels
--- Edit ---
That's why the DARK or BLACK themes for Galaxy S devices are so popular
every one that knows this is trying to light up the least pixel possible to make the battery last longer
it does makes a huge difference
Flash a kernel that supports BLN (most kernels that aren't stock support it, check the dev forum) and then download the BLN control app from the market. This will enable your touchkey lights to be used for notifications. The app allows you to configure things like blinking, duration, etc. Probably the most essential app I have on this phone

AOSP is better cause it does not compress the pics, HTC Sense does

Still a shame that HTC compresses the files.

My apologies ahead of time if this topics been touch on already, but theres a hidden diagnostic mode on the sgs3. You go into the phone app and dial *#0*# and you'll get this cool diagnostic tool to help ensure you device is running normal. I've returned 2 sgs3's due to faulty sub key touch buttons and dead pixels using this and I just thought I'd share.
*update*
Just tried on cm 10 and Aokp and it doesnt work. Must be stock base.

Touch option is pretty cool, it fills the screen with all these boxes and you follow them all around your screen with your finger to detect any non responsive areas of your screen. Dead zones you can say. My 1st s3 failed that test.

My phone will vibrate on call connect if the phone was not at my ear.
In other words, if the proximity sensor is covered, the phone will not vibrate on call connect. If the sensor is NOT covered, it will vibrate on call connect.
I wonder why there is so much variance with this. Is there some setting / possible defect?
