Ok, I realize that there are a billion posts about this but none have worked. Here is what I did to make it poof away, I flashed a n7100 radio/modem (trying something i knew wouldn't work) thinking that I had a backup so no big deal if it didn't work right. I did this on purpose because of my backup, which apparently does not help radio/modem dismemberment. I still have imei NULL/NULL. I made a backup of my EFS using TWRP/EFS.apk and had no luck when restoring. Here is the info about the note 2 and everything I have tried.
Stock Rom - Baseband unknown - kernel 3.0.31-2085660 - build number jss15j.t889uvucmk7. se android status - enforcing sepf_sgh-t889_4.3_0010
-I have Flashed several stock recovery images/modems/kernels - Phone boots but no imei.
-I have tried to use NV reader writer and that did not work.
-I have flashed modded kernels/modems/roms to no avail.
-I have tried everything I have been reading on the internet, every fix I have read has done nothing.
-I tried every little *# code to help, and nothing worked.
-I tried wiping everything (data, factory reset, cache, everything!)
It seems so simple, am I missing something?? Is there anyway to completely wipe my phone as in rom/kernel/modem, everything to start completely new again? I'm thinking I may be done for. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Did you try flashing the latest UVUMK7 stock ROM from sammobile ?
You can try to recover the IMEI using KIES emergency recovery. http://www.alfredivy.per.sg/blogger/2014/03/efs-folder-imei-corrupted/
You can also try some of the methods listed here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145967

I have tried both, samsung kies does not recognize my phone even with drivers. And the other way does not seem to affect my imei, also I have flashed the latest stock rom. Thank you for the link to the kies instructions I'll have to see if I can get it to connect when I'm home.

Still no luck with kies, just says t889 does not support initializing. ive tried uninstalling and re-installing. Taking firewall down, getting rid of antivirus, trying different pc, and different usb ports. no luck. no one has gone through exactly what i am?
My situation was a little different, I flashed a i317 modem on my 889v in order to get lte ( was a year ago). Rebooted had null imei, basically my repair was with nv reader writer, if I remember correctly I had a blank nv.bin file and entered my imei ( there was some procedure to input the imei) then used the writer. There was another guy back then Darkshadow who went through the same thing with success. Good luck

Kies just tells me that it cannot recognize my phone, or it doesn't support initializing if you don't mind me asking. Is there anyway you could link me to the rom, kernel, modem you have on you phone to get it to connect, or what exactly you had to do to get it to connect?

if you have unknown or Null IMEI installing a rom wont fix it.
1) click on this link and download the drivers first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038555
2) Download and install kies from this URL: http://www.samsung.com/in/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP
3) power down your device, once its off, hold down the volume button down - home button - power button, hold all three at the same time. Should ask you to confirm enter to download mode.
4( Launch kies and do not plugin your device until it says so
5) Once in kies go to the menu and bar and click on "tools" option and choose "Firmware upgrade and initialization
6) Enter your model number, IE SGH-T889
7) Enter serial number, can be found back of the box or under the battery
8),follow the on screen prompts to connect your device and restore it.
9) once its done installing and booted up you should have your signal back.
Good luck hope it works for you.

Thank you for the in detail explaining of how to do this, it was kind of confusing. The only thing I have an issue with doing that is I don't have my box, and my s/n isn't under the bar code. In settings it gives me a serial number but after putting that in, it stays on connecting normally. But I will try again in an hour or so and update you when I try what you said exactly.

No worries, just hit that thanks button. I had this happen to me before and I didnt even know this option was possible. So i had to swap out my device and then just a few days ago a rom went crazy and wiped it out again. I had a backup plan and it failed. Then i came across a similar thread with this procedure and I tried it and it worked like a charm. Glad it worked out, happy flashing

Thanks for the info and help, I had to just swap the device out when I had it, now I have a note 4 and depending if they keep Micro SD support I might own the Note 5
I used a different procedure as explained below & it worked.
1. Removed SD Card from phone.
2. @cwm recovery mod i Wiped davlik cache under advanced.
3. @cwm recovery mod i Formated all mounts.
4. @cwm recovery mod i Wiped cache partition.
5. @cwm recovery mod i wiped data/factory reset
6. @odin i activated Nand erase all.
7. Flashed the stock firmware 4.1.1,
After all that everything was back to factory settings except IMEI now turned to 0/00.
8. Used NV Items Reader-_Writer v1.0 to write the imei back to its normal state.

Thanks for the guide. I got as far as starting the backup in QPST, but got an error.
SPC given could not unlock the phone. The phone will not respond for 10 seconds.
Guess I need to try on an insecure kernel, but can't find one for our phone. The two that used to be on samsung-updates.com are dead links as of right now.
I got the same SPC lock error.
I believe that is because you need the MSL. This should work for you phone credit to shiftr182 for this guide.

Thanks. Got a little further. It starts the backup, but now fails at 16% with "Roaming Lists could not be read."
Tried on both stock and insecure kernel. Tried PRL/Profile update + reboot for kicks, no change. Not sure what else to try, googling doesn't help.
edit: Do you know of anyone on Verizon that has successfully backed up? I checked their forum and they only have a guide for doing the IMEI injection. I'm assuming the 7 successful Verizon restores you have listed in your original thread are restores by injection and not from a backup?

That is correct 6 were through injection 1 was through a backup. There are however plenty of Verizon folks who were able to do the backup without any problems. They also however didn't need their MSIL and were able to use the default spc of 000000. I will have to dig a bit deeper for Sprint. I prefer us all safe and not just 3 carriers. Thank you for your efforts

it makes it to 47% every time and says

Errors = Received an invalid command from the phone
thanks
just wanted to add i have now rooted phone and installed CWM and it still does same exact thing
Let me start by saying I've read through several other threads with a similar issue, but they all have a common connectivity problem that I'm NOT experiencing so I thought I'd ask this in a new thread. I was using AOKP build 5, and I decided to try out a more TW stock rom to see how devs have modified it. I chose Intergalactic v 2.8, wiped data/cache and installed like ya do. Almost immediately I got the pop up saying, "Unfortunately, Factory Test has stopped." I didn't think much of it, even though I had never seen it before. I restored my app data via Titanium Backup and starting fiddling with my settings. Made a couple calls, a few texts. Put my phone down to go about my morning. Later when I went to unlock my phone I realized I don't have a lockscreen. Thought that was funny so I went to boot into recovery but punching the power button just turned the phone off; So I investigated and I realize I'm in factory mode. and I can't seem to get out of it. I've tried running the terminal commands to turn it off, but that didn't work. It looks like my ESF folder is empty or doesn't exist.
So here's what I know after all of my research: My IMEI somehow seems to be intact since I can make calls and get on the network, but because my ESF is empty or gone can't turn off factory mode, which is causing all kinds of other buggy issues such as no lockscreen, no power menu, and the annoying Factory Test pop-up. If there is a thread out there that had a similar problem, I apologize that I couldn't find it. is there any way to recover this info, since the IMEI is still intact? Thanks.

Tried to restore the stock JB with Odin and it didn't fix the problem. I'm attempting to flash the stock ICS, then attempt an OTA update to see if that does the trick. Will keep you posted.
So I flashed ics and then allowed AT&T to push my JB update to me OTA. Still in factory mode. I guess I'll just have to investigate this more thoroughly. I'm using widget locker as a work around for my lockscreen, but still no power menu and the popups are still showing up every now and then. Super annoying, but at least my phone is still functioning. If anyone has any other ideas I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Don't be skittish. It really and truly is the only way to get everything back to how it should be. Ton's of people have tried it and this allows you to push the IMEI back into your phone the way it came from the factory. It's not for spoffing or doing anything illegal.
Now its usually for replacng a lost IMEI from flashing a ROM. Sometimes happens when going from a non-stock type ROM (i.e. CM or AOKP) to stock type ROM (i.e TW)
Search on how to push files with ADB and you should be good to go
BE CAREFUL though and don't skip steps or go fast.
I meant to ask...can you use your phone ? does data work ? Have you tried to get into download mode ?
If you can then download good manager and select reboot into recovery or any other number of apps that let you boot into recovery without having a power menu

Yeah, the phone works perfectly other than a lack of lock screen, no power menu, and the pop ups that annoyingly show every once in a while. Beer,
I'm not thinking he has a backup of his EFS though
Try his first but this might do the trick as well:

Yessir. When the phone booted back up it didn't go through the setup process. Just goes straight to the homescreen. Also when I boot into restore mode I see this under the menu options:
E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid Argument)
E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid Argument)

I tried turning it off with terminal emulator at one point last night, but it didn't seem to work, I THINK because the EFS folder is empty. I'll have to re-root tonight and try it again since I've restored my stock firmware.
It may seem like I'm shooting down every suggestion you guys throw at me, but I really appreciate the input. XDA is a big place and I tried to be very thorough when searcing for a solution before posting this thread, but I'm sure there's something out there I've missed. Thank you for your efforts.
I think I found something that will allow me to restore a generic EFS here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39523753&postcount=4
Asked the originator if it will work to restore my files. If so, gonna try it when I get off work tonight.

Ah exactly what I have been looking for on this one for you. I found a few that explained how to push your old EFS folder with ADB but none about making another. How crazy it was yesterday it popped up on a post. That looks like your best shot as you folder seems to be corrupted and although IMEI is intact you need a new one folder that is intact. Let us know how it turns out
Can you hit me with the stuff you found about pushing it through ADB? My efforts have been less than fruitful on that front. I'd rather be armed with as much information as possible.

Hi
I have been having trouble with this device since I changed the digitizer after dropping and shattering the screen, it was unlocked but after that it would only take AT&T SIM card, when I inserted my simple mobile card it pop a stop sign on the signal bar and give emergency call only when I tried to call. I have tried downgrading & unlocking again, tried custom rooms but it still didn't work. Now major problem 2 is that I was trying to install a rom using twrp I accidentally but it wit no OS loaded and now it can't be recognized by the computer. How to I get to load the OS back? Please help with the 2 issues.

No problem dude.... its an easy fix! Just flash a rom, then a kernal. Done! As for your problems with a different network. Id suggest doing what u did, except try looking at your apn settings.. you can find those in setting,, more setting, mobile networks then access point names.

Do you still have twrp recovery? Not sure about you twrp part you said you accidentally did something. You will get that no OS message after you perpormed full wipe then reboot device without flashing a rom. Download a custom rom and save to external card then flash using twrp recovery if you can still access it.

Thanks a lot for your help. Was finally able to go to boot and use Odin to load stock 4.1.2. Then downgraded to 4.1.1 and went through the secret menu method to unlock but it still will not allow calls and still shows the stop sign @ the top right on the signal bars then it disappears. The apn settings are being recognized as t-mobile and everything as far as I can tell is ok but it can't call, says only emergency...any help here?
Thanks for your time.
Now no network now( galaxy note 2)

Hmmm.. ur getting data.. but no calls? I realy dont know how u have ur apns set up, its probably automatic from your carrier. . Hopefully @bajaman sees this thread. Hes the apn masta!. Can you run AT&T mods or stock on the international N7150
I have a chance to get a N7150 new and unlocked but I need to run it on either AT&T or Tmob and use LTE. If I flash the I-317 software do I have to flash a new kernel to get LTE or just flash the carrier modem?
Thanks

Is this the fix?
su
echo -n ON > /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
Never heard of that before. From what I gather when someone has to inject their imei due to having no backup, they will sometimes have also lost some carrier specific nvitem data. The app used to fix it is the one peoplearmy created. You make a new qcn backup, then his program will 'fix' it by adding this info. (You have to choose your carrier and it does the rest). Then you restore this fixed qcn.
If that factory mode command works it's probably setting it to a state where it'll work w/o that info. But I would assume that you'd have to 're-enter the command every time you flash a Rom or wipe data.
That's just based on my speculation as to what the command you posted does.

Oh, ok, I gotcha now. Didnt realize that was also an issue. I imagine it is a separate problem from 4G not working after an IMEI restore. Just a guess though. If I am remembering right, I think the method I just sent coco worked for the op though.
@coco
Do you have the box with yellow text displayed on your screen? If you do, it wont go away by pressing your ususal buttons. But try that command from Aerowinder in Terminal Emulator.
If its just the 4G that isnt working, follow the directions I just sent you.
Could you pls PM me the fix as well DocHoliday? Thanks in advance

NO matter what Rom I put on after this happens there is no network,,wireless works fine and so does the roms. Right after I rommed the ASOP latest nightly I called to make sure it was working fine and it was..Let ggogle put all my applications on and update them and went to bed,..When I woke up there was no network...So i used recovery and used 3 or 4 of my backups but none of them solved the network problem. I opened up backups to see if there was a file missing and I cant find any...Im willing to send some $ if someone can help me. By the way this has happened 3 times before but all sprint guys do is get me another phone and Im afraid thats going to be stopping soon..I just need to find out why this is happening so it doesnt happen again..thanks

Sounds like a problem i had before. It is your baseband version. To fix you need to flash a stock/ish rom. In dialer do ##786# it will reset everything. Once you perform hands free activation you should be back up and running. After that make sure you flash a good mc2 baseband. After that you should be fine.
Quick question. You are on sprint and only flashing roms for the sprint phone? I have this happen when working on a couple ports from other note 2 variants.

Steps to hopefully fix your issues. Read through and download and copy all links to external sdcard before starting.
1. Perform a backup of everything (rom, internal sdcard)
2. Flash this twrp file from your current recovery http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/t0ltespr/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0ltespr.img
3. Under reboot options choose reboot recovery
4. Now in twrp choose wipe/format and select data, system, cache, and internal scard (/data/media)
5. Go back and select the data wipe option then type yes
6. When done go to reboot menu and reboot recovery
7. Now install Billards back to stock mc2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769 but do not reboot and do not wipe anything
8. Now install this to gain root (do not use twrp's root option) http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1584076&d=1356201390
9. Now you can reboot. The red light will come on and phone will display weird stuff then reboot.
10. Now it will take some time to boot but you will be on stock mc2 with everything updated to latest mc2 setting.
11. Dial ##786# phone will reboot
12. Dial ##"your msl"# and change both number sets to 10 0's once done phone will reboot
13. Do Hands free activation. If that does not work dial *228 and let that run if phone does not reboot reboot it yourself.
Now if everything went according to plan you should now have full service. Since this updated everything to factory stock mc2 you will need to install a custom recovery again. Also the mc2 baseband provided with the rom has always been stable to for me. Since I am flashed to cricket I had to reflash the phone everytime this happened to me but thankfully I flash it myself so it was easy.

Do have IMEI under about phone/status? Does it display your number or anything?
Sounds like you need to Odin flash a stock firmware with tz, param and modem..With a pit file so it flashes to the correct partition..
I'm on Verizon and this happened to me..lost everything under status..I flashed what I stated above and it fixed everything. .
If that doesn't work flash your KIES image and after re root and unlock your phone:thumbup:

the phone is only 2 week old with the latest kit-kat installed from them..I think I read somewhere that if you go backwards to and older rom like mk2 it screws the phone up because of the knox??? anyway yes I flashed it but honestly Ive done so many things ,so many times,,,every modem, mk2, mk4, rooted , unrooted , different recovery...I even got the note 2 toolkit updated donated version...nothing is working, perhaps the order in which i do these things may be off but when the phone is supposed to reboot it doesnt , when its supposed to show a number it doesnt..actually the more I do to it the worse it gets..It will go into recovery and odin mode, but some of the things that were sure fire arent even working...Yes as long as still have the phone i would try it can you send me a link for those files..thanks
