Can no longer get MSL with 4.1.2

Hello,
I used to be able to get my MSL by doing ##DATA# in dialer, entering 6 random digits then doing getprop ril.MSL in connect bot, but this no longer works after 4.1.2 update.. I even wiped my phone and rooted with CWM and tried it again.. no luck.. I have googled the crap out of this trying to see if there is a way to get msl from CWM recovery but I cannot find anything..
Help would be appreciated!

I believe this belongs in the Questions forum instead of the General section. Anyways, to answer your question, use aLogcat.
1. Open up dialer, enter ##3282#
2. Open aLogcat
3. Menu > Clear log
4. Hold home button, go back to EPST Menu
5. Enter random 6 numbers into MSL field
6. Go back to aLogcat
7. Locate the line that says "MSL Code="
8. Write down those digits and store them somewhere they will not be lost

Thanks, I tried this 5 times following exactly what you said and there is no msl line anywhere in the alogcat list.. even searched for it

ive tried the same thing and no luck. it was working before the update. though it was just me. none of the previous ways work now.

I'm having this problem too. I was thinking of flashing a 4.0.4 rom after backing up and get my MSL then restore from my backup. That should work right?

That seems good, but it doesn't say anything about MSL. Will it still work on getting MSL?

I just installed the .zip file in CWM and rebooted and i still am in the exact same boat

Use terminal emulator instesd of connect bot. Works fine for me on 4.1.2 on the note 2 which is pretty close to the same base firmware just different add ons
You can also get it by starting an online activation on sprint.com and then once you enter your esn/imei it will bring up the master reset and provisioning info and your MSL will be in the instructions list, write it down and close out the page
I like to break stuff!

Already tried terminal Emulator, that did not work either and trying to activate phone on sprint.com gave me an incorrect number message... I KNOW i was typing the right number... I ended up just calling Sprint, telling them that I had work done for poor signal issues with a tech and I did a full wipe of my device so I need my MSL to repeat the steps that the tech gave me.. they handed the MSL right over no problem and this time I saved it in my email...
I would recommended spending 10 minutes on the phone with Sprint instead of loading a 4.1.1 or older ROM.. save yourself some time.

All you gotta do is call support and say I need my MSL. If they ask why, say "because it's mine and I'd like to keep it in my records and lost the ome I wrote down when I activated my phone"

I had this same problem. The solution is to downgrade rom to ics low ship as referenced in URL. Once on the rom use the suggested get my msl app technique. Works flawlessly.

There's several methods because I myself had the same problem using 4.1.2 but i wrote down my msl code when i downflashed to 4.1.1
All you need to do really is the methods mentioned above BUT you'll need to do this.
Wipe cache dalvik 2x. Reboot device.
Download and install android terminal emulator from play store.
Open it
go to the dialer and press ##3282#
Edit.
type 000000 or any random number.
Go back to Android Terminal Emulator via Task Manager.
then type this.
Code:
su
getprop ril.MSL
if no number shows. go back to the MSL code screen
retype 000000
let the phone reboot due to typing in the wrong msl too many times.
Go back to dialer and ##3282#
Type in 000000
then redo getprop ril.MSL in the terminal.
You then should be able to get the MSL number.
I've tried it on 4.0.4 and 4.1.1 - LG8 and LJ7 and i've gotten the MSL number but it
didn't work for me on MA4/MA6 leaked and MB1 official OTA.

Ok I just got tmobile US galaxy note 2 unlock so I can use it on AT&T. Before I rooted the phone, everything worked. I could make calls text and use google play.
But after rooting and flashing paranoidandriod 3.10, I don't have signal, it wont read sim card and google play won't work as in it goes into "unfortunately google play has stopped" crap. Same thing with Goo manager. I tried the suggestion for those apps and nothing worked. So then, I've been on this board trying to find the right answer. To make things worst, I then flashed MyRom Revolution still no signal or won't read sim card however google play works. Now I'm trying to go back to stock and that seems to be a challenge since twrp won't flash it. I was able to flash it back to stock but still won't read sim card and the imei shows null/null. this is just a bad day. Can anyone help me? What am I doing wrong? This has just been a bad experience.

Do you have an efs partition backup?
Your messed your efs partition up, there was a thread on how to fix it, I'm at work and can't search well though so you'll have to find it.

Ok first off, Calm down.. evening will be ok. Which pa did you flash. Have you tried going into recovery and factory resetting & wiping caches

Well I dont really know how I got mine back to life, tried all the standard stuff from the threads,got my imei back but had no network,network type,service nothing helped. last resort I said whatever ill try anything now. Came across this

I tried the first link and qpst won't recognize my phone. It reads "no phone connected" in qpst config, That read Phone unknown, no ESN, Banner known and Port com6

I did that too and my phone won't recognize it. I'm just going to send it back to samsumg

I just sent it back to Samsung. Hopefully I'll get a replacement or they will fix it.

No 4g!! *Factory Mode ON*

I'm a flashoholic. I'll admit that first. So when deciding to switch I know to make backups but, Never have I learned about this issues. Lessons are learned the hard way. My phone had a 00/0 imei but I repaired it. Now I need help because my phone is stuck in Factory Mode and I can't connect to 4G.?
Somebody with similar experience or solutions on how to solve please ASSIST!?

Never heard of that before. From what I gather when someone has to inject their imei due to having no backup, they will sometimes have also lost some carrier specific nvitem data. The app used to fix it is the one peoplearmy created. You make a new qcn backup, then his program will 'fix' it by adding this info. (You have to choose your carrier and it does the rest). Then you restore this fixed qcn.
If that factory mode command works it's probably setting it to a state where it'll work w/o that info. But I would assume that you'd have to 're-enter the command every time you flash a Rom or wipe data.
That's just based on my speculation as to what the command you posted does.

Oh, ok, I gotcha now. Didnt realize that was also an issue. I imagine it is a separate problem from 4G not working after an IMEI restore. Just a guess though. If I am remembering right, I think the method I just sent coco worked for the op though.

Do you have the box with yellow text displayed on your screen? If you do, it wont go away by pressing your ususal buttons. But try that command from Aerowinder in Terminal Emulator.
If its just the 4G that isnt working, follow the directions I just sent you.

I believe there might be a way to update the PRL via the phone, but I'm not positive and I've never done it.
I don't think it would be terribly difficult for you to update the PRL via dfs demo (I can give you a link to it)... all you do is find your SPC for your phone, and use that along with another password (there are 2 that I know of for Sprint phones) to unlock the phone for flashing in dfs demo, go to a specific tab, load PRL file from computer, and press the write button.

settings, more, system update, update prl ??? not sure if it will work, but that's the location.

Try ##72786# in the dialer..your phone will reboot so don't panic. See if that works.

it did not work, when i go to settings>about device>status> under username it doesnt have my number anymore i think thats what i have to fix.

so i decided to become a big boy and fix my own problem lol, so if anyone needs easy fix here is what i did.
1. I installed cdmaflashingtool and samsung drivers at cdmaflasher dot com/Downloads/index.php cant post urls yet
2. called cricket for MIN which they provided at no hassle
3. followed the instructions from flashingtools that they provide ( software is free, cause i basically needed a half flash )

[Q] sprint note 2 sph-l900 network info erased from phone..NO PHONE CALLS!!!HELP

NO matter what Rom I put on after this happens there is no network,,wireless works fine and so does the roms. Right after I rommed the ASOP latest nightly I called to make sure it was working fine and it was..Let ggogle put all my applications on and update them and went to bed,..When I woke up there was no network...So i used recovery and used 3 or 4 of my backups but none of them solved the network problem. I opened up backups to see if there was a file missing and I cant find any...Im willing to send some $ if someone can help me. By the way this has happened 3 times before but all sprint guys do is get me another phone and Im afraid thats going to be stopping soon..I just need to find out why this is happening so it doesnt happen again..thanks

Sounds like a problem i had before. It is your baseband version. To fix you need to flash a stock/ish rom. In dialer do ##786# it will reset everything. Once you perform hands free activation you should be back up and running. After that make sure you flash a good mc2 baseband. After that you should be fine.
Quick question. You are on sprint and only flashing roms for the sprint phone? I have this happen when working on a couple ports from other note 2 variants.

yes only l900 roms on my sprint phone..Last time it was macksrom 5.0 it happened on....I dont think it has anything to do with the flashing or which rom it is some application i have put on from the play store thats causing it..Im a noobie here so please bear with me..Last time this happened I flashed a stock l900 rom and did the reset thing you are talking about but it wouldnt go through..can you be more specific about the rom and what/how this baseband is installed..Ive beed using phils recovery but im familliar with the odin method..what line do you put it on the odin 3.07???

I will get on pc later and do you a full writeup with links.

Steps to hopefully fix your issues. Read through and download and copy all links to external sdcard before starting.
1. Perform a backup of everything (rom, internal sdcard)
2. Flash this twrp file from your current recovery http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/t0ltespr/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0ltespr.img
3. Under reboot options choose reboot recovery
4. Now in twrp choose wipe/format and select data, system, cache, and internal scard (/data/media)
5. Go back and select the data wipe option then type yes
6. When done go to reboot menu and reboot recovery
7. Now install Billards back to stock mc2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769 but do not reboot and do not wipe anything
8. Now install this to gain root (do not use twrp's root option) http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1584076&d=1356201390
9. Now you can reboot. The red light will come on and phone will display weird stuff then reboot.
10. Now it will take some time to boot but you will be on stock mc2 with everything updated to latest mc2 setting.
11. Dial ##786# phone will reboot
12. Dial ##"your msl"# and change both number sets to 10 0's once done phone will reboot
13. Do Hands free activation. If that does not work dial *228 and let that run if phone does not reboot reboot it yourself.
Now if everything went according to plan you should now have full service. Since this updated everything to factory stock mc2 you will need to install a custom recovery again. Also the mc2 baseband provided with the rom has always been stable to for me. Since I am flashed to cricket I had to reflash the phone everytime this happened to me but thankfully I flash it myself so it was easy.

IM sorry i dont know what the ?partions backup is...I did the nan, backup and the Note 2 toolbox backups does that help?

You did ##yourmsl# and changed both numbers to 0000000000? Then did hands-free action?

OK:cyclops: did everything again just exactly as prescribed when i dialed the ##786# it does not reboot but go to a page that says rtn on top with 2 options view or reset...that's where I'm at ...I rebooted myself and did the ##157680# which is my msl # and it does nothing. So I pushed reset and a screen says enter msl # and i did ..nothing then I put in 0000000000 and nothing happens..this is where I'm at...thanks for your help I appreciate all

Try the hands free activation if that does not work try *228.

This may help I believe it sets your partitions right. This is for 4.1.2 MC2.
ANDROID...A New Digital Revolution Of Incredible Developers

Its got to be something simple that Im doing wrong...the screen that it goes to says view and reset...when I push reset it wants the msl number but no matter what I put in it does nothing..no reboot or anything..please help..thanks

just says no mobile network when I put in *228...................... just did update over wi-fi now it doesnt work or stay on

Do have IMEI under about phone/status? Does it display your number or anything?
Sounds like you need to Odin flash a stock firmware with tz, param and modem..With a pit file so it flashes to the correct partition..
I'm on Verizon and this happened to me..lost everything under status..I flashed what I stated above and it fixed everything. .
If that doesn't work flash your KIES image and after re root and unlock your phone:thumbup:

Network-unknown..... network type-unknown .....service state-out of sevice..... username-not available...... mobile network state-disconnected....my phone numer-unknown ..........prl version-unknown........... meid-unknown ...............iccid-unknown anyway what is tz, param..Ive went to stock and back 20 times know Im almost going to hook a capaciter up to it and give it a good shock so I can tack it back...again,,Im a my wits end ..How bout I send you 100 dollars and my phone you fix it and explain how exactly you did it so if it happens again I can bring it back like you did..im running out of time and options

Did you try and flash the zip I posted? It sets your carrier partitions! It is for the Sprint Galaxy Note 2...I've used it...it works. Just saying it couldn't hurt to try.

What about flashing the mk4 rom of your choice, then flash the newest mk4 modem..? I have the file if needed. Works great!

the phone is only 2 week old with the latest kit-kat installed from them..I think I read somewhere that if you go backwards to and older rom like mk2 it screws the phone up because of the knox??? anyway yes I flashed it but honestly Ive done so many things ,so many times,,,every modem, mk2, mk4, rooted , unrooted , different recovery...I even got the note 2 toolkit updated donated version...nothing is working,perhaps the order in which i do these things may be off but when the phone is supposed to reboot it doesnt , when its supposed to show a number it doesnt..actually the more I do to it the worse it gets..It will go into recovery and odin mode, but some of the things that were sure fire arent even working...Yes as long as still have the phone i would try it can you send me a link for those files..thanks
