audio video output settings - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I have xbmc installed on my FTV, When I go to system/ audio settings or video settings, I don't have the option to change the audio output setting, say for example to HDMI, it just says android audio track and is grayed out. Also in the video settings, it is set to windowed with 1920x1080, with no option to change, as this is grayed out also. Is this the way it is supposed to be or should I be able to change these settings? I am running the most recent nightly build of gotham. Thanks

Change from basic settings to expert settings at the bottom. Then go back to audio output. Set the number of channels, DTS, DD, and passthrough. That is all you need to set. The HDMI setting was removed for some reason.
Those video settings are correct.

OK, will do, thanks for the reply

PowerAmp question

I purchased this app and would like to use it as my main player, but it's sitting on the back burner because it doesn't fade out when I receive GPS directions or switching to another music app like DigitallyImported. I tried going through the settings and searching online, but no luck.
Please help
Well depends on what Google Maps or Navigation app you are using. I am going to give you advice based on the Google default Map and Navigation apps. So under PowerAmp you hit the settings menu and go to Audio, Audio Focus, and then make sure that you have the Short Audio Focus Change and Permanent Audio Focus Change checked. I have not had an issue with audio fading out for directions when using these settings and the Google Map and Navigation apps. The only app that has caused me issues with PowerAmp not stopping audio is the iHeartRadio app which, for some reason does not pause PowerAmp and, instead plays both audio streams ontop of each other until I manually pause one.
Thank you! Looks like my issue is that I'm still running v1.xx so audiofocus was not available in the menu. I'll have to update
Is there a poweramp setting to silence notifications when it is playing? I'm thinking that there is but I can't find it.
Anyone?

Updated Fire TV to 5.0.5, then no sound and no audio/video streaming, help please.

I bought the fire TV when I can pre-order it, and I rooted it and block the firmware update. Recently youtube is not working, so I decide to update to latest OS as root is not that important to me. So I reset to to factory default then update to 5.0.5 (must be from 51.x). After installing new OS, there is no sound at all, not even from menu navigation. I tried each settings in audio and still no solution, reset, restart, change the HDMI cable etc.
What even worse is that I cannot stream video and audio at all. I have wired LAN to a router directly with 150Mb Comcast. Now I cannot even load the fireTV introduction video. I can install the youtube without any issue and it can load the play list, subscription list etc. I tried to stream Amazon video and MP3 and it stuck at the beginning and would never start.
I side loaded the latest kodi, it plays mkv from NAS but still no sound. The FireTV and TV have not been changed except OS update. Please help.
Do you have a little red muted audio sign in the top corner (right hand side) of youre screen? If thats the case using a keyboard press the + button to get the audio back on! If not search on Google i also had a problem simular to this a while back after a new install of Kodi & found the solution from there after looking through for around 5 minutes.
Hope this helps if so press that thanks button
It is not just kodi, but fire TV itself does not have sound.

I looked on the net for you, try these -
Go to Settings > Display and Sounds > Audio > Dolby Digital Output > Select Dolby Digital Plus OFF (I used Dolby Digital Plus Automatic and that worked)
Or this -
If you hear regular TV sound that means that whatever that sound comes from is still running. Maybe you have a cable box or DVR connected to an amplifier? You need to turn it off when you are using the Fire.
You should hear the sound from the Fire TV directly from your TV, not your amplifier. You'll need to make sure the TV's sound is turned up.
Or -
Check the volume setting. Most TVs have separate volume controls for each input, so it may be you just have that input turned all the way down. Also check your TV's owner's manual and see if the input you are using supports sound. On my TV one HDMI input processes sound and one is video only for some reason.
Or this -
Do you have another HDMI cable you can try? & have you tried on another tv?
Hope this solves ur problem (I keep my fingers crossed for ya), if it does press that thanks button

I had the same problem and called amazon, and they told me it was a known issue and are looking into a fix.

Quiet Audio Temporary Fix

I discovered that after updating my phone (retus) to the December Security Patch, my bluetooth, headset, and speaker audio was quiet... Stock Audio Effects on the phone was no help, and acts as if its disabled... Even though it was not when I tried to adjust its settings. I turned it off via Google Play Music in the settings by selecting Equalizer and turning it off before doing what I describe below.
My Temp Fix was to download the "Pi Music Player" in the playstore... Go to the equalizer settings, select to use the Pi Equalizer instead of the system EQ... Then press the "Flat" button beneath the equalizer 2x. Once you do this, your phone will come alive. Now you can choose the equalizer preset of your choice, including manual and set your own if you want.
If the audio goes soft again, just press the flat button 2x in the Pi Equalizer and re-select an EQ setting and all should be well.
I am not rooted (even though I would love to be) and anyone could this to make their music/phone sound better... Even if it only works intermittently.
So far I have tested the Slacker Radio and Pi Music Player apps with Pi EQ settings and it works fine for me...

Is there anyone who has AAC 5.1 transcoding to AC3 5.1 working in Kodi?

EDIT: Nevermind it just started working.
I swear it worked before with older versions.
I am almost positive I used to be able to select "2 speakers" in the firetv settings, which resulted in AAC being transcoded to AC3 5.1 in Kodi without any problem.
Now, those options in native firetv settings are gone. I can get it working via kodi by enabling "best match, 2.0" which forces the AAC track to be encoded to 5.1 ad then select transcoding (the options for DD arent there with any other settings in kodi)... but its choppy and slow audio. Even on lowest everything.
What happened? Did they prevent AAC->AC3? Did they get in bed with Apple? I cannot seem to get it now and it worked perfect before (when I was able to select the speaker config in firetv official settings). Now no 5.1 in AAC? Wtf?
Tell me its gone and I will have a compute stick immediately.
EDIT: Nevermind it just started working.

Question Bluetooth audio delay

Hi.
Question:
I can't figure out why the sound is delayed when playing via Bluetooth.
For example, I play a video on YouTube or in a video player via Bluetooth to a portable speaker, and after a while the sound delayed behind the video.
I've tried various settings in developer settings, changing audio codecs, etc, but nothing helps.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks.
