I have the Galaxy Note 3 T-mobile version, and my question is how can I change Voice guidance quality?
Even though I have followed the steps in different threads regarding this matter, my voice quality is still set on the very robotic and annoying one.
Before you ask me if I have downloaded high quality voices; the answer is yes. I have also set it to high quality but it remains on US robotic crap quality. I want it to either be in Swedish or in United Kingdom English
Please someone help me out, I just can't endure the annoying voice while driving in LA.

I too have a rooted T-Mobile note 3 and I got mine to work.
Did you go to "install voice data" and select the language you want, then select "high quality".

I assume you are talking about the voice when using Google navigation? Why don't you download Google tts in the play store? Then make it your default in the phones setting.

I have done that and changed it to English (United Kingdom) and it says default language status (United Kingdom is fully supported.
The example speaks English (United Kingdom), but my Google Navigation still uses low quality English (United States)

Now go to language and input. Now to text to speech. Change from Samsung Tts to Google tts
Edit... Sorry I didn't see that you tried Google tts ... Try this from the Samsung app store

I follow your instruction but ot is not working properly.
I noticed it also, the US voice feels like robotic like no life at all.
I like this https://play.google.com/store/search?q=ivona text to speech voice for google maps.
thanks!
Ivona is the first thing I got when I got the $25 and then $50 free play dollars when I got my GN3. Use it a lot.

This is what I recommended too and Google tts is no where close to sounding robotic. Something else is going on and his phone doesn't sound like it's using Google tts

I had the same issue.
Settings
Languages & Input
Language
English (United States)
It appears that if you have selected anything else (I had UK) then it doesn't work!
Didn't work
I tried changing the language to english (US) and it still only results in web pages, and does not speak replies.

This is what I did to get voice search results to talk back:
1. Open Google Now and go to settings
2. Go to "Privacy and Accounts"
3. Make sure "Search on google.com" is checked
4. Check if your audio volume is up!
ok i have been through both threads my voice is still not working for me. my search on google.com is checked, im not blocked by my wifi at home, i have gone to the settings and tried to Vol+ everything is up. i have made sure that my phone's settings is all checked off with English US. im using the Google speech, my speech output is always on speak. and i still dont get talk back
Possible fix

This might have already been fixed but I also had this problem with Google now's voice response not working. I somehow got it fixed by:
going into phone settings
select language & input
select text-to-speech output
select Pico TTS as preferred engine
When I got back into my google now app the speech was working.
Can also go to settings
Select accessibility
Select text to speech output
Select Pico TTS

FYI, many voice actions don't work in 4.1.1. For example, "Text John hello how are you" doesn't write the message out at all.
If you're a heavy user of the feature, beware. You may want to stick to 4.1.

Perhaps you are not in the USA? If not, try changing your language settings to English (US).
From what I've heard the feature is not tuned for any other language setting so not everything is available unless you use US English.

I have yakju and never had 4.1 before so was kinda thrilled to try the new voice actions out but when I tried none of them works and it only searches the web.
Tried stuff like:
"set the alarm for 6 o'clock"
"remind me in 10 minutes to buy a pizza"
"play carry on my wayward son by kansas"
It recognizes the speach correctly but instead of perfromring the actions it just searches google for the terms.
**** you Apple!

You just can't speak right apparently. It works flawless for me - I'm on 4.1.1 stock rooted.
I'll play around some more, but I am on takju, US english.
Odd indeed... I do apologize if this turns out to be wrong.
Guys, if it doesn't work for you, its because your phone's language is not set to English (US). Try changing your language settings.
Edit: if your language settings are set to English (US), then I'm not sure
Working fine for me. Stock 4.1.1. I'm in Canada too.
It works for me just like previous 4.1
Yeah set everything to English (US) now and it seems to work now, had the system langueage set to English (UK) before.
Still can't get it to play songs from google music though and I thinks they did that in the demo but I guess I just have to try a little more.
*edit
I'm just stupid and said "play" instead of "listen to"
Just wondering before i get my neus will google now work for malaysian or asians in general , as far as i know S voice and siri struggles to undersrand malaysian english ( judging it when i used my friends phone ) and i turns out more of a gimmick than a function , does this flaw comes to google now ?
I'm Malaysian and Google Now works perfectly fine for me
I am Vietnamese and Google Now understands my English as well...

Some Malaysians have accent that make them mispronounce words, if you pronounce the word correctly, it should work.

Spot on, it's not the accent but pronunciations of the words.
Also many people don't realize they don't speak clearly or have speaking problems.
to OP, not to sound insensitive, but how is your incorrect pronunciation of words Google Now's fault?
Not to cause any disturbance here but I work with importation and some asians are EXTREMELY hard to understand, I have to tell them to write me an email... so pay attention to you accent and pronunciation while using Google Now!

Hey Buddy.
I am also from India and Until yesterday i was using galaxy s2 and i was able to use google now perfectly on that. Today i bought galasy s3. Now i am able to install google now without any problem and it is working too. however, the problem is changing the language. On S2, when i changed the language and tapped ENGLISH, it further gave me many options like English(US), English(UK), English(India) etc. Now on S3, it is stuck on English (US), and my accent is not recognized by English(US). Also when i change the language to some other, it does not come back to English even on selecting it. But my main problem is that only that i am not able to select English(India). Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Out of curiousity, has the bus stop card ever appeared for you? I use busses pretty often (bangalore, here.) and it's not shown up once :/
Not sure I am American living and Germany and Google now understands 50% of the time. Like I said wake me up at 6am well it understood bake shake sake lake but wake nope. Stupid **** I tell you. Voice recognition still blows major and i stick with typing it. Who needs siri or Google now? I wish it would work but nope. It sucks.

Hey all, Since the purcahse of my Infnity Tab, I have been waiting to get an android "phone" to replace my old iphone 3gs. So grabbed the Note II yesterday ! Love it ! So far so good, with the exception of one small issue. S voice fine for what it is, but I watched many videos on Google Voice where it will actually "speak back" (a la Siri or "S" voice). I can not for the life of me get google search to speak an answer back to me.
I have check volume for "media" - I can hear S voice so I should be able to hear Google's voice
I have English (US) selected as language of choice.
I have voice response set to "Always"
What might I be missing. I have searched and watched a few videos, I am stumped.
Any tips/help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried generic questions like "what's the weather gonna be like today?" and if so, what happens when you ask these questions.

Where do you live? If you purchased your phone outside of the United States that's why it's not working.
I got my NOTE 2 in Canada and had the same problem. Refer to my post for the answer:

I'm kinda confuse here... You do know Google Voice and Google Now are two different products, right?
Google Voice: voice.google.com
Google Now: the voice recognition (assistant) feature introduced on JB, like Siri on steroids...
As for the question... Open Google Search, check on Settings\Voice\Speech Output
Peace!

But no matter what if you want Google NOW to to talkback you have to use the local/language app. Because for some reason none US phones don't allow you to change the phone language to English (US).

After finally getting the upgrade to JB through kies, Google now works very well except it doesn't have any speech responses like it should. When asking google now the time on my one x, it says the time out loud. The galaxy s3 only displays it.
I've tried
-increasing all of the volumes on the phone
-reboot
-going into google now settings, voice --> Speech output: always speak
-going into google now settings, voice--> Language: English US
But no luck...anyone know how to resolve this?
Thanks
