[Q] M919 Only Sync's To PC, But Doesn't Charge??? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey guys,
Looks like I have a very unique problem here with my Galaxy S4, M919. I've had the phone for about 2 months and it's worked flawlessly until yesterday. It just randomly stopped charging!
I've replaced the charging port already and also re-flashed ROM (aokp_jfltetmo_kitkat_nightly_2014-03-27).
I am unable to charge the phone, however it syncs perfectly with my PC. I've searched all day yesterday and all morning today for anyone with a similar problem but have yet to find anything.
You guys are my best and only hope now.
Please..anyone. I really need your help! I can't afford to purchase a new device.
If you require more information, let me know.
Thanks in advance for your time and help!
EDIT
I just ordered a Qi Wireless Charger from eBay. I'm hoping it'll allow me to charge the phone since it completely bypassed the charging port and is located on the mobo itself. Will update once it arrives and I test it out.
Still looking for answers to this problem though. So if anyone has any thoughts on what may have happened (and its solution), it would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT 2
Just received the Qi Wireless Charger.. It does not work either =(
I will be flashing back to stock again and try to charge the phone while it is off. This is the last thing I can try now. If it still doesn't work, I will be parting out my phone.
LCD $180
MoBo $120
Remaining parts can be discussed
Just message if interested!

Have you attempted to flash another ROM and see if the problem persists? Another kernel? I suggest trying another kernel first, then another ROM. Also, I have to ask just to cover all bases, have you tried multiple ports on your PC? The device won't charge at all or just while connected to PC?

Hey. Thanks for the reply.
I've already tried flashing a new kernel as well as ROM. I've tried all 4 ports on my PC. I forgot to mention that it also does not charge through any wall adapters. Any charging method that involves using a Micro USB cable does not work. The only response I can get is data sync when attached to my PC.

Hmm that is very strange. That's highly unfortunate and I'm sad to say this is definitely beyond my level of expertise at this point haha. I'd do some more looking around via Google but I really don't know what to tell you friend

If you are with T-Mobile, I sure hope you have insurance or JUMP. As a T-Mobile employee, I can vouch that this problem is considered a hardware defect and would fall under an insurance plan. The only thing is though, you'd you have to return to full uprooted stock as an employee in your store will have to perform a physical and software diagnosis. Physical is easy as long as the phone has no cracked screen, no water damage and is YOUR phone. Software, they will plug it into our diagnosis tool where we'd be able to see if you've installed ROMs and such, which would void your warranty.

Yeah. I've gone to stock..still doesn't charge. Re-rooted and flashed aokp again and same thing.
I honestly have no idea what could cause this. I've never..and i really mean never dropped my phone, nor had any sort of shock or damage to it. No liquid/moisture anywhere around it. No dust. It doesn't make sense for it to be something physical.. it's still being picked up by my computer. I'm still able to flash and transfer files to/from the phone. It just is not charging.

Well, it's most likely a malfunction then my friend. A customer came into my store just the other day with his S5 he just purchased three days prior. The device was stuck on that S-View screen even when the S-View case was not covering the screen and even completely detached. We tried everything you can at a T-Mobile store. Even factory reset. Still, the problem persisted. It happens friend, hope you have insurance or JUMP

Are you still having this issue?
I am having the same issue, but this only happens when installing a rom. You cannot just reflash the stock rom. If you still have to phone, I can give you a link on what to down load to set your phone back to defaults. Once you set it back to defaults you should be fine.
My issue:
I installed any custom rom and this Tmobile Phone will not charge at all!!!!
Complete set back to Tmobile Defaults charges perfectly.
I will try flashing a custom Kernel with battery management to see if this help.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up selling the phone to someone for a cheaper price. I tried to ODIN back to stock, however it didn't work. I'd still like to know why it would stop charging if a custom ROM was installed though.
Best of luck with your phone :good:

I found my issue, it first came by my root method. I was using a method that wasn't designed for my model. Then the issue was recovery, again wrong type for model. Finally I got everything to work and I lost lte. to fix that I just added the LTE profile and it works.

I was trying to go back to 2.3.x using ODIN after I installed the KP8 (update for a "leaked" ics) on my phone. Now my computer won't read the phone on download mode. Anyone have a fix for this?
Or do you know if that USB JIG will fix it?
that was not for our phone....malciado....jtag is your only fix

Yea..... GSM + CDMA = your screwed
There is no leak for ICS for our phones yet.
So you flashed the GSM version.
2 options:
Sprint insurance
or
buy a new phone
No one has been successful at jtag, I wouldn't even waste my time.

Sigh. Add one more to the list of bricked phones due to flashing an ICS leak meant for the International SGS2. As said above, your only option is to send the phone to JTAG if you want to use it again.

Look up JTAG on Google. I believe they charge $50 for unbricking service. You'll be out of a phone for awhile, but it's not like the phone is going to do you any good in its current state anyways.
Good luck.

Yea bro just placed my order from Mobile Tech Videos i'll post up how everything went to help others out with this problem. Good thing I kept my EVO for backup
I can vouch that nothing will work. I had someone send me theirs to try and,I installed drivers through Kies, got drivers from XDA, tried a USB jig, hard reset, my SD card with Mobile Odin on it, etc, etc, etc. If when you hold volume up and power and you have the green Android guy holding a box and your phone says I9100, its jtag or nothing. I spent a week (about an hour a day) trying everything. If your phone powers on but you can't connect to wifi or SD card isn't recognized and no network is found, don't even waste your time. I tried because I hoped I could pull it off with the help of some of the great minds from around here but it just wouldn't be recognized by Odin....and it does beep when I plug it into my laptop....so close yet so far

Just told them the battery would not last 4 HRS, it was fully stock besides the bootloader.
Odin wouldn't recognize it but the pc would. Tried mobile Odin, tried flashing anything and everything, nothing would work.

Think I bricked phone using Android kitchen

I restored my phone to stock then made a backup using CMW. I placed the CWM back up in the original_update folder of the android kitchen. Then went into the android kitchen and deodexed, rooted and intalled busy box. Then i built the rom, signed it, placed it on my SD, card booted into recovery, flashed SuperWipe then flashed the rom I made. It installed fine and booted up but i didn't have any signal. So i let it sit for about 5 minutes then Powered off my phone but it stayed at the Good Buy screen for like ten minutes so i pulled the battery, when i tried to boot it back up it wouldn't do any thing. I held the power button down and nothing happened. I tried plugging in a usb cable and my phone still would't do anything Its completely unresponsive
Any suggestions?

I sadly did the same thing. I'm still trying to figure out what I did wrong in the kitchen to brick my phone. Mine powered up as well but upon restart it bricked. But its sad to say but its bricked. I did a warranty exchange. If you connect the phone to the computer it will register as qhsusb_dload and not an Android phone. Best of luck.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if its registering as a ghsusb_dload device, a jig won't work.....how do I know you may ask? Cause I tried that as well before the exchange. Haha. Good news is you can pay someone to jtag your device. I think its like 50-100 but way better than 600 for a new phone. You should be able to find the link around the forums somewhere.

[Q] I fracked up, hard. Bricked.

I hardbricked my S3. I messed up, I know. It was my fault that I didn't notice that the Slimbean was only for the international version. I have been looking online for a solution, but all I'm seeing is that I have to get a new phone. I cannot access Recovery or Download mode with or without the battery in while or while not plugged into the computer. Though, while the battery and SD are out, the charging/notification light will light up when plugged into the computer for about one minute, but that's it. Is there anyway to turn it into Sprint for a new one? It's been under a month. So...any advice?

did you mean to quote me? i was just commenting on him saying he didn't have a soldering gun... i'm not saying if it will work or not, but if he did want to try it, it's a fairly simple object to make, with very simple and cheap tools. i don't have to search to know that it's just a few resistors and a male micro usb plug, maybe 15 bucks for everything including the soldering iron.
if you have insurance you can go to a sprint repair store and get it replaced for free... it usually takes about 2 days for your replacement to come in..

That is what I'm planning on doing tomorrow.
UPDATE: I did get it replaced yesterday. Told me it'd take thirty minutes, went out and got lunch. When I came back, they said they have no clue what happened to it to cause it to fry like it did, so they swapped it out for a new model. I'll root tomorrow when I have more time. I'll stick to what I can find here on XDA now on. Any recommendations for a good AOKP ROM?

I know, foolish. Coming from the OG Evo, I didn't have to worry about seeing if it was American or International and which carrier it was for. I'm being more careful this time.
Call samsung say the phone died and won't come on. They will replace it as long as there is no physical damage. One year manufacture warranty is still valid use it f sprint don't waste your time. Samsung is fast at sending you a new or refurbished phone. I had several phones replaced. They send you a new phone or used phone and a box to send your old one. They don't check for rooting or nothing they just install new software on the phone and send it out to the next person. Now ups is my issue with the entire process, they Just leave it on your door step even if your not home it happened twice thank god no one stole my phone, I thought we were supposed to sign for it but I guess not.

[Q] Very strange brick situation

I was flashing a rom last night using twrp and after the rom was finished it said something like "no rom is installed on phone" so after seeing this I automatically tried another rom and it it seemed to have installed properly so I rebooted the and it never came back on. Doesn't vibrate, doesn't show charging symbol nor will it enter into download mode. The strange thing is when plugged into my pc it gets recognized but it shows this driver error message "driver for qualcomm cdma technologies msm" and the phone gets warm around the camera indicating that it may actually be charging. I've never experienced anything like this and I have searched for bricked solutions but this seems quite unique and I have found no similar cases. Is my phone completely bricked or can it be bought back to life?? If someone can help me it'd be greatly appreciated thanks

Try unbrick sgII, heimdall or buy a little download jig for $5. Usually the phone is a complete brick if the computer says QHSUSB D_LOAD attached. You're phone shouldn't say cdma anything since its a gsm phone so something is wrong there. What rom did you flash?

Yea the cdma thing threw me off to when I first saw it...I just purchased a jig from ebay. I really hope it works cause I was just contemplating selling this phone to put towards an upgrade. The roms I flashed were (can't remember which order) Liquid-JB-v2.0-RC9-hercules and Liquid-JB-v2.0-RC9-d2tmo. Like I said I flashed one after it was done I went to hit reboot and it said there was no rom present on the phone. So I'm thinking good heads up so nervously not thinking I immediately flashed the other. It loaded fine I got no "no rom" warning so I hit reboot system as usual and then...nothing, won't do anything. Tried going into download mode and it just kinda acts as if I'm removing and inserting the usb cable back and forth and it says I need to format my disc
I'm guessing you flashed the d2tmo one second? That's the T-Mobile Galaxy S3. Sorry man, you're bricked

Ok thanks, hopefully it goes smooth. Plus i'm sure do the cost to replace still doesn't cover the amount of money i've paid for insurance so I guess it all evens out in the end lol
Did the jig work?
I have the same exact issue. For some odd reason I wanted to flash the d2mo rom also those heavy drinking nights should not be spent flashing roms to show you are cool to your friends. Regardless made a jig and did not work. jig worked on another friends samsung so know the jig works but not on my s2. Anyone know if at this point a jtag might bring it back to life?.
If you flashed the d2tmo you are toast. That is for the s3. Different kernel and processor.

Phone dead, cant turn on, no vibration

Hey all,
Like the title suggests, my phone has died and it doesn't vibrate when I press the on button.
Any suggestions as to how I can fix this?
On another note, is it possible to erase ALL my info remotely while my phone is in this state?
I'm concerned about my privacy and wanted to make sure all sensitive material is wiped before I send it off to get swapped out.
Thanks so much

Did you flash a ROM/kernel for a different phone?
If it says something like qhusb when you plug it into the computer, you probably can't wipe any of your info off of it.
Take the battery out for a few minutes then put it back and try turning it on.

Nope, I flashed a new ROM ages ago and it was working fine up until now.
So there's no way at all to wipe any data off my phone at this point?
PS. I did buy a micro usb dongle and it should be coming in 2 days...

I've never had to do it so I'm not too sure about wiping the data. Hopefully the dongle will work.

What do you think about the security of sending it back to T-Mobile/Samsung? Reliable?
I'm just a bit paranoid

Don't worry about any of that, I know from a employee im very good friends with that when u send in your phone for repair all they do is basically wipe the entire phone clean and do a complete reflash, no need to worry they rarely ever even turn them on, just hook it to there system and "refurbish"

Just another quick question,
If they cant fix the hardware, do they just smash the motherboard/phone?
Because in my case its probably a bad motherboard or some other hardware component

No they use pieces for another "refurbish" phone believe it or not, 9 times out of 10 theres nothing they can't fix, unless u really damage the hardware, it's very hard to kill the motherboard with software, u may render it unusable, but with there system it's just a matter of connecting it, wiping everything and flashing a stock img back on the device, in effect - new screen, new img., new plastic= "refurbished" phone lol

hahaha thats hilarious.
It so funny because I can actually imagine them doing so. hahaha
Again, thanks for the info
It's funny because it's true lol all these"refurbished" phones are just ppls old broken bricked devices if u ever do send a phone back here's a little funny, take a red pen and inside the battery compartment make a small dot or something that only u know is there, that way when u get it back u can laugh, because 99.9% of the time it's a completely different device lol
