Hey all,
Like the title suggests, my phone has died and it doesn't vibrate when I press the on button.
Any suggestions as to how I can fix this?
On another note, is it possible to erase ALL my info remotely while my phone is in this state?
I'm concerned about my privacy and wanted to make sure all sensitive material is wiped before I send it off to get swapped out.
Thanks so much

Did you flash a ROM/kernel for a different phone?
If it says something like qhusb when you plug it into the computer, you probably can't wipe any of your info off of it.
Take the battery out for a few minutes then put it back and try turning it on.

Nope, I flashed a new ROM ages ago and it was working fine up until now.
So there's no way at all to wipe any data off my phone at this point?
PS. I did buy a micro usb dongle and it should be coming in 2 days...

I've never had to do it so I'm not too sure about wiping the data. Hopefully the dongle will work.

What do you think about the security of sending it back to T-Mobile/Samsung? Reliable?
I'm just a bit paranoid

Don't worry about any of that, I know from a employee im very good friends with that when u send in your phone for repair all they do is basically wipe the entire phone clean and do a complete reflash, no need to worry they rarely ever even turn them on, just hook it to there system and "refurbish"

Just another quick question,
If they cant fix the hardware, do they just smash the motherboard/phone?
Because in my case its probably a bad motherboard or some other hardware component

No they use pieces for another "refurbish" phone believe it or not, 9 times out of 10 theres nothing they can't fix, unless u really damage the hardware, it's very hard to kill the motherboard with software, u may render it unusable, but with there system it's just a matter of connecting it, wiping everything and flashing a stock img back on the device, in effect - new screen, new img., new plastic= "refurbished" phone lol

hahaha thats hilarious.
It so funny because I can actually imagine them doing so. hahaha
Again, thanks for the info
It's funny because it's true lol all these"refurbished" phones are just ppls old broken bricked devices if u ever do send a phone back here's a little funny, take a red pen and inside the battery compartment make a small dot or something that only u know is there, that way when u get it back u can laugh, because 99.9% of the time it's a completely different device lol

I restored my phone to stock then made a backup using CMW. I placed the CWM back up in the original_update folder of the android kitchen. Then went into the android kitchen and deodexed, rooted and intalled busy box. Then i built the rom, signed it, placed it on my SD, card booted into recovery, flashed SuperWipe then flashed the rom I made. It installed fine and booted up but i didn't have any signal. So i let it sit for about 5 minutes then Powered off my phone but it stayed at the Good Buy screen for like ten minutes so i pulled the battery, when i tried to boot it back up it wouldn't do any thing. I held the power button down and nothing happened. I tried plugging in a usb cable and my phone still would't do anything Its completely unresponsive
Any suggestions?

I sadly did the same thing. I'm still trying to figure out what I did wrong in the kitchen to brick my phone. Mine powered up as well but upon restart it bricked. But its sad to say but its bricked. I did a warranty exchange. If you connect the phone to the computer it will register as qhsusb_dload and not an Android phone. Best of luck.

Unfortunately I don't have a contract with T-Mobile so i can't do a warranty exchange. I ordered the USB Jig and i'm gunna see if that fixes it, if not I guess it's just a paper weight :\

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if its registering as a ghsusb_dload device, a jig won't work.....how do I know you may ask? Cause I tried that as well before the exchange. Haha. Good news is you can pay someone to jtag your device. I think its like 50-100 but way better than 600 for a new phone. You should be able to find the link around the forums somewhere.

Agreed-
Try pulling the battery and waiting a few seconds, then try to reboot. I did something while installing a rom and the phone booted but just showed a black screen but I didn't realize it.
It does help to know exactly what it was you tried to flash.

What rom did you flash...be specific...and where did you find it from?
Do you have TMobile PHP? If you do then you can get a replacement S3 for $5 from TMobile customer care. That is probably the easist way to fix this issue.

Reboot into recovery mode and wipe cache, dalvik cache and do a factory reset in recovery.
Do NOT wipe/format system.
Then reboot the phone and it should work fine.

okay i have the same exact problem. i tried to flash darkyrom iii from androidgeeks.com or something like that, and, i also didn't see that it was for the i9300 only and it went through the little setup process from within cwm (like its own little installer) all steps went fine and everything. asked if i wanted to reboot, i touched "no" then the installer closed and brought me back to cwm and cwm decided to just reboot my phone on its own anways. now im waiting for it to boot, nothing. research, take the battery out along with the sim and sd for about 45 minutes. nothing. i plug it into the computer and nothing happens. i take out the battery and plug it into the computer, again to no prevail. so with the battery out and the phone plugged into the computer, i hold power, home and volume down and a red led comes on the phone and the computer makes the "attatched device" sound. but isnt recognized by kies or odin. will a jig help me out at all?

You are about about the 50th person in the past couple months who done the same thing, flashing a 9300 rom.
The only way to get the phone back into proper working condition is to send it off to be Jtag'ed.
There are some very good deals on Jtag if you go to eBay and search for "JTAG Galaxy S3".
Good Luck!
thank you

Hey guys . I Picked up a three month old galaxy this morning. I have had problems rooting before but always managed to fix them but this I cannot figure out. Here is exactly what I did and what happened.
1.First I rooted my phone using GalaxyS3RootUSCanadaMac.
2. Downloaded the following, superuser, ezunlock, and rom manager.
3. Flashed clokworkrecovery through rom manager.
4. Unlocked the bootloader with ezunlock
5. Tried to reboot into recovery via clockwork and it would just hang and never reboot.
6. Decided to do a restart , so I clicked power on the right hand side and selected restart.
7. Fell asleep and woke up to a dead phone.
I cannot get it to boot at all , not even in download mode. I get no lights or vibrations when trying to boot. If I remove the battery and hook the usb cord in I get a red light at the top but not with the battery in.
Any info on what I might have done wrong or what I can try to do to fix it would be great.
Thanks in advance guys.

This is completely inapplicable to the i747m, and the reason your phone's bricked.
Unless you can somehow get into download mode, you're going to need a JTAG to recover it.

bricked my LGOG, cant get into recovery and LGNPST wont recognize it when i plug it in when its in download mode. I've decided to just give up and take it in to bestbuy tomorrow. I have the geeksquad protection and i know i cant tell them it was rooted and unlocked. I figure ill just tell them i was doing the ZVC update and the phone died. Well, thats what i did last time so i figure it should work this time. Hopefully, they have more LGOGs in stock, if not ill be moving to an EVO 4G LTE (which isnt all bad since its getting 4.3 by the end of 2k13) or an iPhone 5C. Any recommendations on what I should tell them?

Do you want to give up your LGOG?
1.Are you using USB 3.0 ports? Try it on other USB ports, hopefully 2.0
2.Try another cable
3. Uninstall then reinstall the drivers and LGNPST
4. Use the LGFlashtool. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2443185
Just some more options for you
Telling the geek squad the update hard bricked... its basicly exactly the same as zvb. I would just try to blame it on hardware...not a bug fix update....or walk tall

If you need help , I willing too take a crack at unbricking it. If you can get the phone into download , just pm me
I had the exact same problem and the exact same best buy protection. They didn't even ask how it happened. They saw that it wouldn't boot and just ordered me a new one. Best insurance available.

honestly, idk. I was walking home, called my mom, the call ended out of no where and i had no data. i restarted the phone, still no data. I went into freegee to try and restore an old EFS backup to see if that would fix it, it said it couldnt restore. Tried to reboot into recovery to restore my CM 10.2 backup and it wouldnt boot.

so ive got an interesting issue that just happened...been trying to fix it all evening..so far no luck....i dont have insurance so if i cant fix it my lgog days are done,,,cant afford a new one and am going to have to reactivate my wife's old sprint s2 until i can afford an upgrade...so heres the deal..
was running pac 10.20all day no problems...senn new kernel posted...so i downloaded it..went into recovery (twrp 2.6.3)..wiped caches..flashed kernel...hit reboot...phone booted immediately to a blank/black screen no lg logo no animation just blank/black screen.....so im thinking ok bad download or something so i went back to recovery...and it is asking me for a password...now ive never setup any type of encryption or lock so this is new to me and very foreign...as in never seen it before ever and i mean never....so my options are hit cancel or enter a pw..obviously i dont know the pw so i hit cancel...well it goes intorecovery but its locked down cant mounst storage cant mount cache...have tried factory resetting fails saying cant mount storage or cache...tried formatting data...fails saying same things cant mount several things...have tried flashing another recovery, rom, kernel, nothing is working..all fails and never boots.....so i thought let me lgnpst...fails on every bin i have from zvb, zvc, teenybin, says cant rewrite partitions 512 (my number might be off..but was a number for sure)..so then in the process of unplugging phone and turning it off i guess i let it sit there trying to boot up...well finally i see boot animation...but thats as far as it goes...even fastbooot isnt being recognized... have adb pushed roms, recovry, and kernels in last few hrs trying to fix it just fine...but fastboot isnt recognized...just says waiting for devices....so pretty much my phone is a pacman boot animation paper wight right now...if anyone has any help they can offer or insight or even a damn dud yes your screwed would be phenomenal...thanks
oh btw my hangouts is [email protected] if help is more easily provided in that manner feel free.

Here is the problem. I install a custom rom. it's working properly. but a few days ago, it says weather widget stop working. and i uninstall it using titanium backup. but after a few days later, the screen is not turning on but it got sound from the lockscreen and opening app drawer. i tried few ways. then, it's working again. but just now, it happened again. screen off. the boot and lockscreen can be hear properly. is it the rom problem or my screen problem? if it is my screen problem, how do i claim warranty since the device already rooted. please help me. this really made me sad. :crying:
Install stock rom via odin then root it again then install traingel away to rest counter then remove root

when you reboot, can you see those white words(galaxy note 2 etc.)? if you cant see those, i am sorry, but it is going to be a screen problem.
you rooted it, but it doesnt matter because they wont be doing anything with your system. they will just change the LCD, so no need to unroot it.

Enter recovery and do a factory reset.
Fixed? Good
Not fixed? Re-flash rom
Fixed now? Good
Can't enter Recovery? Enter download mode, flash Stock ROM through ODIN
Fixed now? Good

nope. cant see a thing. ohh. but, if they fix the screen, they must turn it on and see wether it's working or not. i use joeldroid and when booting, after galaxy note 2 word, google logo will come up. will they notice that the device is rooted or not?
If your screen is dead, they can't check if the phone is rooted until they fix the screen
Even if they fix the screen, they will most likely be too lazy to check if its rooted.
I once completely destroyed my partitions on my old galaxy by entering a Motorola command in Terminal, + it was rooted
I got my money back

WOW. I didn't know someone can be an asshole this big.
I don't know man.....i don't think so :/
You could try removing the marker with something, and then try sending to the Store you bought it from.
The thing is, with a phone this expensive, no one will give up easily, if it was a 100-200$ phone you would get a replacement no doubt...
the sam but another problem...
Hey i have the Problem that i cant see anymore BUT i dont root or modified my Phone and i can see a colorful screen.
What do you think. is the screen damage or is it the GPU chip?

yeah. i was totally shocked when i found that written at the battery slot. Guess i'll jus go fix the lcd only since there is sound coming when i push the power button. they said it will cost about 400$ to repair it. 200$ for the lcd and 200$ for the main board. i think they just want it to be original just as new. that's why they want to change the main board. what do you think?
