i want to ask how to unbrick our lovely phone Samsung Galaxy Wonder
Use Odin, if your phone can still go into Download mode, it'll be fine. In case you didn't realized it yet, someone posted about it a few pages behind... In the other forums, if you know what I mean (kas*kus)

I apparently have bricked mine (Rugby), and I can't even get into fastboot. I was trying to install an alpha clockwork onto it, foolishly using this command:
dd if=recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13
Anything I can do, or is this phone now a brick that I should toss?
Thanks

Get your bootloader replaced via Sammy they might get the mobo replaced....
Else you may try USB jig....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YRPWU4waa4&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Or D.I.Y very own USB jig...

I watched the videos for the USB jig. I don't think that will help because I had no trouble getting into fastboot previously using the keys. Now fastboot is gone, so I assume the jig won't help. I'm going to have to send it in to Samsung for a new mobo, or just throw it away.
I have rooted and Cyanogened a whole bunch of devices and this is my first brick so I don't feel too bad.

Then you should flash it with Odin. Download the stock ROM you desire. And use Odin to flash it. And you are done. As long as you can get to download, then it shouldn't be a big problem. Except if your phone didn't boot.
odin help
Hi. Im using a SGW and its rooted with CM9 custom rom. All of a sudden it started to boot-loop and I couldn't get the mobile out of it. I already tried using ODIN. But ODIN fails because the phone just stays in Download Mode for just around 2-3 seconds and it restarts again.
I'm running out of solutions. Kindly help me. Thanks

If you still can go to CWM, copy ROM and gapps to external SD card (try different ROM and copy with card reader) First of all, check on the CWM menu and make sure you have option to install ROM from external SD, then wipe/format the following (find the proper entry in the CWM menu structure)
1. system
2. cache
3. Dalvik Cache -- please note that this is *different* from the /cache of the previous line!
4. format data
5. format Cache
6. format system
7. format Internal SD (of course the data will gone)
Leave the External SD alone!
then install your new ROM, following exactly the instructions by the ROM-cooker/dev
Yes, this is pristine way.
Hope this will help.

What to do
For failure to comply with the rules of the English language should apologize
Noob here, please be patient.
Samsung SGH-T989D was running CM 9. Did a factory reset as I was planing to sell the phone, but once I did that the phone was stuck in a loop at the boot logo.
Tried upgrading via recovery mode to the new CM 10, but was still stuck in boot loop.
Tried clearing cache, etc...but nothing would work.
So I downloaded the newest stock Telus ROM, put the phone into download mode and used Odin to flash - however Odin failed.
Now the phone won't start and I immediately get the following message: "Firmware upgrade encounted an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again".
I tried Kies recovery mode but it does not see my phone. Odin still sees it, but wont flash it.
I found this thread for the S2 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458.
But I have not been able to find one for the S2x.. Where would I find the bootloader and kernel to flash as it explains in the above guide...
Or maybe someone has other advice?
Thanks for your help!!

Lots of stuff the t989 there. Just be sure you actually have the t989 or t989d.
Or look through our dev section for probably more up to date stuff.

All u need to do is download Odin 1.85 to ur PC, then go to http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules and download the twrp 2.6.6.0.tar.md5 to ur PC, power ur phone on in download mode, the same screen will come up "firmware...issue", kids will do nothing for this and u will need to make sure kids is NOT RUNNING. Odin will not see the device if kies is running at all, now open the Odin program and connect the phone to PC using OEM factory USB cable, on Odin it should say "added", now click the box PDA, find the twrp file u downloaded b4, click on that file and then hit start in Odin, DO NOT CHECK ANYTHING ELSE... Let Odin do its thing and u will be fine, Odin will reboot the phone and u will now have twrp recovery, boot to recovery to finish rooting process

Went to the site you linked but there is no twrp 2.6.6.0.tar.md5
I downloaded openrecovcery-twrp-2.6.0.0-hercules.tar
However, in Odin it still wont flash the phone (I closed all Kies processes beforehand).
This is all that happens - just hangs here...

I wasnt going to use the files from the other thread, I just assumed I could try this procedure once I got the correct files for the SGH-T989D:
Recovering a soft bricked phone
1) Grab the Recovery Package, and you'll see a bunch of .tar files. Take a look at the names. You'll see CODE, MODEM, CSC and .PIT. Put each one in its place.
2) Turn off your phone. Enter Download mode by presing Volume Down + Home + Power button.
3) Plug in your phone. It will show you, in a yellow box in ODIN, ID:COMx (x being the number displayed, sometimes displays 7, sometimes displays 9)
Now here, take a breath
First try flashing WITHOUT the .PIT and re-partition. And only if it DOESN'T WORK OR FIX then you flash with the .PIT and Re-Partition ticked.
4) Once ready and done all your prayers, press Start. Wait patiently. It usually takes 5 minutes to flash.
Have you done everything correctly until now? Then...
Congratulations on recovering your phone!
You deserve some cake afterwards, and some rest
Now, if your problem is the NAND rw coruption, and wasn't fixed by the above fix, then follow these steps :
5) Download the Kernel. Flash it in PDA. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
6) Successful? Nice, hope is still present.
7) Flash the recovery package, following steps 1-4 This should fix your issue. If it does not, then :
WARNING : FLASHING A BOOTLOADER IS DANGEROUS. FLASH WITH EXTREME CAUTION.
8) Download the Bootloader. Flash it as PDA or Bootloader in ODIN. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
9) Flash the Kernel, as in step 5
10) Flash the recovery package, like in steps 1-4 And that will fix any of your issues
11) After you have recovered your phone, I advise you to have your phone completely up to date by browsing and downloading the firmware for your version through SamMobile!

[Help Guide]("Firmware upgrade has encountered an issue please select recovery in kie
So I've seen many ppl including myself run into this issue with Hercules while trying to root or install a recovery, or even updating with kies. As I have been in this situation I decided to make a simple how to fix it guide, this is what fixed it for me, it may not work for u and I am in no way responsible for anything u do to ur device. So u tried to mod ur device and now ur stuck in download mode, ie- "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue" page, the phone will only boot to this screen, no recovery no fastboot, nothing, don't worry u will be able to fix it just breathe, take ur time and don't freak out like I did... First u will need a program called "Odin 1.85", a copy of the latest recovery .tar file, I use "Team win recovery project 2.6", this method may work with cwm but I haven't tried. Make sure u have no trace of Samsung kies running on ur PC as it will interfere with Odin, boot the phone to download mode, or the "firmware has encountered...." screen, open Odin on ur PC and connect the device using factory OEM USB wire, Odin is funny sometimes and likes this cord, after u connect Odin should say "Added", when it does u need to click on PDA and load the recovery tar file u downloaded, this is very important so listen....DO NOT CHECK ANYTHING BUT PDA IN ODIN! nothing at all as u may end up in worse shape, load the tar file in PDA and click start in Odin, this process shouldn't take longer than 30sec to complete and will reboot ur device when done, if by some chance Odin fails try another com port on the PC, mine liked com7, do not load a pit file ever as u will hard brick ur device, when Odin renders a green "Passed" message u are all set and can disconnect from PC, the phone should boot back to it's original state and u now have a custom recovery installed, hope this guide helps unclog a lot of these threads with this issue, I will place a link at the bottom to twrp for anyone who needs it, and please if I helped hit the thanks button...

I did end up making some progress, but not really...
I was able to flash cwm 5.0.2.7 (not sure where I got it) in odin 3.07, but then it bootlooped the CM10.1 install. I then made my own tarball of the latest version of cwm touch 6.something and it also worked, but gave the same results. I'm going to try going back to stock via odin, then reflash cwm6 and see if that will provide better results. Any insight would be appreciated.
Looks like it's sorted. I used my own tarball that I made in odin 3.07, but before doing that, I flashed stock.
Here's what I did:
Flash stock in odin
Flash cwm touch via my custom made tarball
Flash CM10.1 in cwm
Note: it seems that whenever I uncheck 'auto reboot', whatever I'm flashing fails. Very odd. Anyways, it seems to be all set now.

The only thing I'm going to say about that, is make your own assumptions. I've used both twrp, and cwm. I prefer cwm, and the only problems I've ever had were related to twrp(it would hang on booting into recovery). Twrp certainly has more features, but I don't spend enough time in recovery to care about that.
Not sure what you mean about cwm not working with newer roms either. My sister's GS2 is running cwm and cm10.1, and my gs4 is running cwm and cm10.2, neither of them have had issues that I believe to be caused by the recovery.
And in the future, don't be so passionate about your recommendations. I get that you like twrp better, and likely prefer it over every other recovery. But don't go telling people about all the problems cwm has because that's 'what you heard', it's not fair to koush. Logical deduction requires facts for a conclusion, not hearsay. I appreciate your opinion, thanks for your help.
i actually prefer CWM my self its trouble/fool proof LOL TWRP is nice but i only use that on my nexus devices, CWM has always been a great recovery, but i agree we all have difference in preference

Cwm has issues loading preload partition on a lot of new roms, no all, but alot, and that is a fact, cmw isn't updated as frequently as twrp, that's another fact, no discredit to koush because it is a good recovery not arguing that but a lot of ppl have had issues with it, that's also fact, I'm passionate about anything android that works, "personally" I've never had any issurle with twrp that I have had with cwm, that's why I suggest twrp, not to discredit koush but because I want ppl to have the best results they can, that's why I promote twrp but yes its all personal taste so my bad if u feel I offended koush or u or anyone else but only trying to give advice that's been proven with me....

I'm not offended, but you can't just go around saying there's issues with 'a lot of new roms', and count that as a fact. You don't even say what the actual issue is, just that there's some issue with cwm and the preload(hidden) partition. What exactly is the issue? If there's an actual problem, I(and I'm sure I'm not the only one here) would love to know about it.
Also, why is a more frequently updated recovery better? CWM is updated when it needs to be. I recognize that new features are good, and almost always welcomed, but why exactly is that an advantage? It's not like CWM is broken all the time and it never gets fixed...
What were the problems you had with cwm?

Well I didn't say new roms have an issue, I said cmw has an issue loading the preload partition on some newer roms, personally I do like cwm, and your right its updated when it needs to be, but when was the last update, and how many new flashing scripts have been put into the dozens of new roms that have come since it has? I'm not saying cmw is bad, just that twrp is updated with the newer flashing scripts more than cwm, **** cwm was the very first recovery I used an its still good, just some issues arise with some newer roms due to the switch from tombstones to preload, I'm no noob, and have been hacking android since cupcake, so I know a little about what I'm saying, and I'm sorry if anyone got the wrong idea, features in the recovery mean nothing, I could care less if all they did was wipe and flash, all I care about is how they perform and overall twrp has a better track record, and no that's not an opinion its fact, that doesn't mean koush didn't build cwm like a beast, just that he may not have the time to update like twrp does, its all preference but if I am asked I'm going to suggest twrp as I've never had any issues with it and I hope anyone else hacking android the best possible outcome

OK first off what phone are u using because from the Odin script u posted I can see u used a recovery file from the Hercules and the firmware for a i9100, u are very lucky u didn't end up with a hard brick, u need to use the correct files for your device, if u are using the GT-i9100 then u need the firmware for that phone, the Hercules and i9100 are very different and not compatible, if u need links to the right firmware files I'll help but that screen "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" that is download mode so u should be able to connect to Odin and flash it right from that screen..

I tried to flash a CM 10.2 ROM coming from Carbon 4.3. The phone is stuck in a boot loop and when I try to turn off and boot into recovery it shows the blue recovery message in the top left corner but then continues to boot and goes right back to the boot loop. I have tried multiple times and cannot get into recovery. What do i do now?
Try for download mode.

Download the stock rom for your phone and put the phone in download mode, run odin, flash the proper firmware for your device. If you look around on here, you will find a pre-rooted one or goto sammobile.com, or samsung-updates.com and download what you need. I would have posted links but on mobile and dont have a lot of time.

OK I tried to use odin to flash the stock rooted firmware. When I opened the file with PDA it took a few seconds to check md5 and said valid, then I hit start and it only took about 2 seconds and gave this message

I updated to a newer samsung driver i found and rebooted the computer and tried flashing with odin again and it finally seems to have worked. now the phone rebooted and is on the samsung logo and has been for a while. Do i need to wait for it to boot or reboot? How long should it take?
Well I finally got tired of waiting and pulled the battery. I was then able to boot to recovery and do a factory reset and reboot into the stock firmware that I flashed via Odin. Now back to flashing cm10.2!

When you launch Odin, you still able to communicate with your phone? If are, then you can try to reflash back using the Stock 4.1.2 image. My phone is still having issues too so I'm just trying to go back to something that I know will work.

I'm pretty sure you ran into the same problem as me. I've been working on this ALL DAY and it's my birthday. You have no idea how stressed out I've been since I woke up lol. Anyways, I think I figured out what happened.
When I was flashing the stock image of 4.3 via Odin, my phone never actually cleaned out the previous system image. I confirmed this by flashing TWRP via Odin and performed a factory reset/system wipe. Once I confirmed that this was actually executed, then I reflashed my phone using the Official 4.3 stock. I read in another thread that you're supposed to uncheck Auto-Reboot but I forgot to (I don't think this step matters very much). Anyways, once the image was downloaded, I left the USB cable plugged in and made sure that Odin changes the status from RESET to PASS. Once it reports this status, it shouldn't take more than 5 min for it to go pass the boot screen (Samsung Logo).
I'm speaking of this purely from my experience today. Believe me, I've been working on this for the last 6 hours researching and reflashing my phone. I tripped the warranty counter and my flash counter is at 9. Best of luck to you
@ibuddha, @wesc16, After you odin a stock md5 img or a root66 md5 img you need to factory reset or wipe data from the stock recovery. You can do this by pressing the volume up and the home button while powering up. Then you can reboot and boot up just fine.
If you odin to 4.3 dont try to odin to anything lower it could brick your device.
I have this issue. I was using CyanogenMod latest update. I tried using Odin to reinstall the stock tmobile rom (wanted wifi calling), now my phone wont boot past the Samsung logo. I can get into booting mode , but holding volume up, power, home screen phone will not go into recovery. I tried multiple roms (forgot them all) Odin will pass them all, still wont boot.
Try flashing cwm or twrp recovery, then reboot to recovery as instructed by sswb27 above.

Its failing the md5 checksum indicating a corrupted download. I just uploaded some new ones last night. Try twrp 2 8.0.1 or 2.7.1.0.

I know this is an older thread but I have similar issue with wife's SGH-T999L but it soft bricked itself after factory reset now stuck in boot loop on tmo logo animation . It has done this multiple times before. we've always had problems with this device I have to factory reset it every time she fills up with photos. The device never recognizes that the pics have been backed up and deleted will say it has insufficient memory please delete until it gets reset. First time it magically figured itself out, second time I just flashed stock firmware let the boot-loop kill the battery charged it up and it booted fine. tried again last night no go. I will try it again tonight with TWRP. It's time to finally root will probably root66 at the same time since i cant boot the phone up to use towelroot. Trying to find a efficient ROM for the T999L if anyone has any ideas.
