Probably wrong place for this, but there is hardly any activity in the S5 forums which surprises me due to the popularity of the Galaxy S devices. I was only curious if devs are going to move to the new device or not.

I had the S3 and then an N5, now the S5. I preferred the thin tapered body of the S3 compared to the S5. I don't know what to think about this device just yet. Seeing it compared to my N5 kind of upsets me, the Nexus 5 is much more sharp than the S5 but maybe because the screen is SLIGHTLY smaller.
Also AOSP/CM is MILES smoother than TW.
The S5 is such an ugly phone. It's noticeably thicker then the s4, the chrome band looks cheap, and the backing looks terrible albeit more grippy than the s5. The full sized USB 3.0 port is huge and looks tacky along with it's port cover. And worst of all, no Google Play edition so your stuck with Touchwiz unless buggy AOSP ports are your thing.
Obviously, this is just my opinion. If you like the phone, go for it. I'm staying with my GS4 until Google decides to give another manufacturer a shot at the nexus.
Because LG is terrible lol

If someone can come up with a method to root the S5 without tripping Knox I'm sure development will pick up.

Hello first I would like to thank you for taking the time to view my thread, it means a lot to me. I appreciate the community. I will cut to the chase.
I am thinking about adding a new line to my plan for my little sister. She is currently on MetroPCS and we figured I could save more by adding a plan to my line (about 15 bucks)
What made this so enticing is that I could possibly upgrade my phone and give her my current phone. I currently have a t-mobile hercules galaxy s2 and I love it. I have owned it for 8 months and its just been so great. Never had an issue and then flashed a rom that made it perfect.
I don't know what to do... should I upgrade and get the Samsung Galaxy s3 and give my younger sister my S2?? She is 15 and I was planning on giving her the Blaze 4G but the development for that phone is rubbish.
She has saved 150 for her new phone so I would just have to pay the rest.
What would you do?
Edit: Can I somehow transfer my text messages from my s2 to my s3 with titanium backup???????
Get the s3

Ditch the s2 mate. The s3 is better in every way possible. Actually the one thing I think the t989 wins in is aesthetics. The s3 is a bad ass phone but I don't like the way it looks. To me it looks like a miniature Samsung TV.. and I think Samsung TVs are ugly. Just my 2 cents lol

If you can get an s3 for (effectively) $40, go for it. While I'm happy with my s2, I wanted the s3. I just couldn't justify the extra $120 over the s2.

Let me start off by saying the s3 is a great phone Ive had 3 of them but if you look at them wrong you will break the glass. Im very careful with my phones but somehow i managed to break 2 of the screens in 2 weeks. Do a search on it, it seems to be a real common thing. Also development is a little slow for it, seems like the tmobile version is like the red headed step child of the variants. I ended up selling the 3rd one I got and came back to the s2 with no regrets.
S3 looks terrible and is fragile. Though it does have advantages I still like my s2 better

I agree with the stepchild reference. If you can get an S3 just get it and enjoy your new toy. Quite sure if you dont like it you can switch out with your family member.

How do you figure the T-Mobile version is like the red headed stepchild out of the variants? It's the only one who's had a JB leak thus development is picking up rapidly.

The tmobile s2 is the read headed stepchild of its variants. The tmobile s3, on the other hand, is the same as its variants. But it has had a JB leak so it has better development than the others.

Your phone still has a decent resale value. Or.. It did until T-Mobile and Walmart made it available for $299.

I would personally go for the s3. And use sms backup for your texts. Especially if you're going from one phone to a different phone, titanium message restores cause the messaging app to crash.

Funny how we were saying the same thing about the tmobile vibrant (original galaxy s and only variant to not get gingerbread). For whatever reason, Samsung and t mobile have a history of treating their galaxy variants like red headed stepchildren.
Can we really be surprised if the trend continues?

I uhhh.. find that very hard to believe. The CPU in the iPhone 4s and upcoming i5 run circles around the old s3 chip in this phone. Not trying to defend Apple or anything but the CPU in the t989 is a boat compared to the normal exynos 4 in the other GSIIs.

Please people stop calling it SGS3 or S3, because it's none, the real S3 is Quad core
Tmo USA version is Dual core, and it's called SGH-T999 or T999 for short
if you already own the T989 there's no point getting the T999
if you don't yet have a T989 then get the T999
the minor upgrade is not worth it
detailed hardware spec here http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4804&idPhone2=4129
So I found an S3 is decent used condition on eBay for 400. Being the impulse buyer I am, I went ahead and ordered it. Right now I'm running stock deodexed 4.2.2 with Franco and some minimal mods. I'm liking it a lot, but I've heard so much about the s3 and its awfully hyped. Is it worth it? Is it that much better a device than the nexus?
Opinions are appreciated.

Depends, although for the most part S3 is better, and in some part it's WAY better (Battery life comes into mind), but if you like AOSP, the G-nex is a better choice, since AOSP support for the S3 (The quad Intl. Variant) is pretty much abysmal, at least until Samsung cooperates and fleece the much needed Exynos documentation.
But yeah, the S3 is far better in most part, the only flaws I can think of is the fact it's hideous, lack of software buttons, and the way Samsung still thinks menu button is still necessary (Recent button is easy more useful IMO). But those are minor annoyance.
I'd say go for the S3.
If it's good hardware you want, s3 is great. Everything else about it is terrible IMHO.

Honestly I love the stock look of android but I can't deal with the issues that google failed with on the Nexus 4, overheating , sub-par 8MP camera, delayed pinch to zoom, This phone just looks and seems nicer. YES I realize the GS4 is announced this week but that isn't an opportunity to get it unlocked and my contract isn't up till October.
All in all, the Galaxy s3 just looks like a cooler device especially for someone like me in High School where all those camera features and motion features would be fun to play around with, Plus if I don't like it I root and then I pretty much have a Nexus 4 with a slower processor, less overheating and a better camera and screen
Do you guys think it is worth it to sell my Nexus 4 and get a Galaxy s3? I have no problem with buying the s4 down the road its just my phone isn't interesting me anymore and I'm DIEING to see what I have been missing out on with LTE.

Firstly, I would edit this post before the mods come in because discussion of trading is forbidden now, although that is a really nice trade for some people. Swappa is the official place to sell your device here now.
Secondly, it sounds like you are unhappy with your N4. I really love this device and I think it's great, but I think you'd be quite happy with a SGS3. Great battery life, LTE is wonderful, The AMOLED screen is brilliant. All of this is subjective of course. Best of luck.
Thanks for the tip
The big Screen, LTE, and being able to use a SD card is really nice, but the N4 will have better longterm support when it comes to android upgrades the nexus devices always do. I have herd goods and bads about both the gs3 and nexus as far as support though. It really is all up to you and your prefrence
Long term support is a very subjective term. Plus you get the latest OS over here if you are so keen on staying updates.
As the earlier poster mentioned, you got to weigh in many other factors too, not just support. For me, SD card, LTE and screen are important than Google updates. I tend to stick to a stable version, and this forum is the only place I look for.

I know I might be missing some but I was pretty attracted to these features. I am really impressed with the show and how they presented the phone. So the Samsung guy paid a visit and brought the AT&T version of the S4 with him...my question is: Is this better than our Note 2? I don't mean internally or as far as screen. It does everything the Note can do and more without need of a stylus AND has Multi-Window, all in a smaller package. Is this the ultimate device in terms of power AND comfort? I, like many, have that nagging obsession of buying everything that comes out...so I will get it. How about you? Would u switch because of the S4's much smaller size?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
The main reason I bought the note was the size. Would never get another phone simple for a smaller size.
So anything below 5.5" is too small? My S3 feels tiny in my hand after using my Note and the fact that everything is smaller on the screen doesn't help either. I wonder how much of a difference it'll be between the Note screen and S4 in everyday use.
