HI, I have been having a Terrible lag issue with my SGH-497 (Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1). I can Swype or tap something and it take almost 5-8 second for it respond. I want to troubleshoot the reason behind this. I have successfully started it in Safe mode (starting it and holding down the volume down button). Here, everything seems to work perfectly. On a computer, I can usually figure out what the culprit is, but on the droid, I can't. How do I figure out what app is causing my issue? If I go to the task manager on droid, and clear the RAM, it would close about 40 apps... too many to try one by one...lol
Thanks in advance!
Just a quick tip: you can reboot into safe mode by holding down the power button until the power off prompt pops up. Then long press power off.

Well if you go to the real task manager app can't you see exactly what's using all the ram?

Yeah, I went into safemode. In the task manager there are 0 (zero) apps running. When I clear the RAM, 20 apps close..... but no clue what they are. My tablet also responds much better in safemode.... that's what I'm trying to figure out what is causing the lag...

I saw this posted somewhere, but can't seem to find it now.. someone had posted a code that you punch into the dialer to turn off power saver for WiFi, and speed up your WiFi a little. Does anyone know about this ? Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Perhaps you mean this?
1. Open up the Galaxy S3 phone dialer
2. Then dial *#0011#
3. Look for the “ServiceMode” screen and press the left menu button
4. Select “WiFi”
5. You should see that the “WiFi Power Save Mode” button is “ON” – now put it on “OFF”
6. You're done! Just exit the menu, switch off your WiFi, then switch it back on again. If your router details are saved and automatically connects, get your Galaxy S3 to forget or delete the network information. Then reconnect, putting in all the required information.

My app was having problem with running with an AP from where I download video to play. I tried the workaround on my S3 and my app worked fine. However, I cannot suggest my customers to do the same. I've tried to use the WIFI_FULL_HIGH_PERFORMANCE mode, and it really did not help me. Is there a way for me to disable the wifi power save mode programmatically?
How can i turn wifi power save mode on huawei phones? They don't have those options.
I found this through Stumbleupon

I too would like to know the difference as well. I'm going to assume it will drain your battery faster, but for what advantage?

Strange, but after doing this my screen will not auto shut off after the 15s timer. I do not have smart stay enabled and the phone is not pluged in.
I will switch it back and see what happens
BTW im running FreeGS3 R5

I had that too. Just reboot and it is fixed!
Any way to save the setting? If you reboot it reverts back to power saving "on" mode.

+1 Yep. A reboot fixed it for me too.
A reboot just reverts the settings. My phone was doing the same (screen staying on) until I rebooted the phone. I then checked the settings again and it had changed back.

So my power button is fried, and my replacement gets here on Monday, but I cannot live with a broken power button. So, any suggestions for app(s) that wake the phone using the volume key or something?

I'm running cm10 and under Settings» lockscreen» Screen Security there is an option to unlock the screen using the menu key (hard key on far left). Just tried it out, works flawlessly. Unfortunately I can't help you find the app you need and flashing a rom without using the power button may be problematic. Best of luck to you!

I would love to get CM, but the only problem is that since my power button is stuck, it's gonna be a pain to flash. And, not only that, as it is right now, since my power button is stuck, I was able to put it into ODIN mode and restore to stock unrooted to take it in, but I'm afraid that I might flash, and then the power button magically un-sticks, and then I'm screwed, cause I can't unroot it. Anyways, just today and tomorrow left, so not so bad. I actually think I can take it.

It does what it says it does. If you think you have an app causing problems and not your software/firmware, you can test it by using safe mode. Similar to safe mode in Windows.
Except - not all programs are disabled in Safe Mode (some are, some aren't).
But yeh - you need to tap-and-hold the screen where it says "power off".
Its like Windows .But good point,i didnt know about this option.

I believe all downloaded apps are disabled, leaving only system apps.
Very nice, I didn't know about this until now

you can also do it from a powered off state: on the google logo hold volume down until it boots fully into android.
Nice

OK,
So basically, safe mode disables all third party apps. This is because it might be causing problems like apps crashing, battery drains and reboots. So when you go into this option it disables all of the third party apps completely. This method is to check if the apps are causing the problem. If not then it is probably a hardware problem so you can take it to repairs. It might even be the problem if your battery is dying on a custom ROM. So basically it is a help tool.
Regards,
UselessSniper001
I just had a tech tell me to do this to help with troubleshooting an issue on my phone.
Oddly, it didn't disable all the downloaded apps: I have TouchPal Contacts and Dialer set as default and they were still loaded.
If you try safe mode and notice your phone is faster and behaves better then you likely have a bad app or maybe too many apps.
Warning: If you go into safe mode you will lose all your widgets when you reboot into regular mode.
Alright so recently I've gotten rid of all custom roms and gone with stock GB27 because I wanted better battery life with my phone. My phone is not rooted or anything at the moment.
However, the other day I did root again and since then my phone started being really weird. I stayed on stock GB27 and just did root so that I could keep the really good battery life but still be on JB. After root I noticed that my phone doesn't register power button presses the same. Sometimes if I just tap the power button it accepts it as me holding it and brings up the power menu asking if I want to turn off, etc. or it just won't respond at all. If it doesn't respond, I press it again hoping it will respond, but then it just reboots after I press it like 3 times hoping for the screen to turn off.
It's really irritating when I can't unlock my device or turn off the screen, especially when the phone turns on and off perfectly if I want it to. I have no issues being able to turn the phone on if it is completely off, it's only when the phone is on that I have these problems. Does anyone know how to fix this?
