Hey all, I'm trying to root my lg g2 with the latest update on my MacBook Pro and can't get passed a rather important step. I have followed every step forwards and backwards and no matter what I do when i hit Root.sh then the all important "any" key it says NO DEVICE FOUND. I've got all the settings correct and have given myself root access on the macbook and thought the macbook itself is recognizing the phone and allowing my access to my files Root.sh cannot.
HELP!
thanks for any advice.
I'm in the same boat! Mac, with a sprint g2.. No luck getting it rooted. As soon as i get to the "Press enter to proceed" , it says no device found. Debugging on, mac root is active (thought that might help).. Latest ioroot (25 i think)... Drivers have been installed like 3 times... No luck. SO sick of my phone being caged like this.
you guys try running through a virtual machine? would be your best bet or get a real pc? phone a friend?

Ok so lg released VS750ZV7_04 update awhile ago but us lg fathom users couldn't up date cause there is an error in their software
here is a guide on updating you Fathom
First I ran the lg software update tool from lg to make it go to the downloading black screen -- you can get the software too from here http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/vwz-phone-software-update.jsp --
extraced LG-Utils-0.4.2.zip to C:\
made a folder called "VS750" in C:\
Got the cad file from here http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdat.../VS750ZV7_04/VS750ZV7_04.SV7_04.P58006.R5.cab
renamed the cab file to "VS750ZV7_04.cab" than put it into the "VS750" folder
next I right clicked on "KP500-Utils-EN.exe" and changed the compatibility to winxpsp2
and ran it as admin
I than picked "J"
and than put in "VS750" for the model
than I put in "C:\VS750\VS750Zv7_04.cab" when it asked for the cab file
than I put in "VS750ZV7_04" for the version.
and it worked here is a picture of what the update looks like now

I have attached the lg uilt 0.4.2 to update your phones
That's very cool.
Once you have v7 installed, could you possibly dump the OS for me? I would love a copy of the OEM and SYS for my GW825.
sure i can just tell me how to dump it and i will get that to ya
If you take a look at this thread....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611429&page=2
I believe it may provide you with the info you need.
I am sorry but it won't let me dump I might be doing something wrong
I keep getting this error "The Device is not ready for use"
Here is a paste bin from my cmd

Hmm, well I can't help you there.
da_reeseboy posted dumps of v4 and v5. Perhaps he can help get you going.
Lol this explains why both of you asked about dumping the rom.
@bhast2: I shot you back a pm.
@trueg: I'm trying to snag a usb monitoring program so I can monitor the data before I upgrade... I haven't found anything solid yet.
Dumping it right now thanks for your help da_reeseboy
OK I have dump it to .raw how that is what you need cause I dont' know what to do with the .raw files
OK here is the dump of V7_04

Very cool, thank you.
Your welcome
I just wish we could use a custom rom on our fathoms
So what has been updated/changed in V7?
h**p://support.vzw.com/pdf/system_update/fathom.pdf Replace * with t because i can not post outside links. (post count is under eight)

LGFathom connects to WMDC but LGMobile updater and KP500-Utils-EN don't see the phone
Hi,
I just got a LG Fathom (V4) and want to upgrade to V7 before I start using it for real (I'm semi-computer literate, but new to phone hacking). My Fathom connects up to WMDC and syncs. But when I try to us LGMobile Updater, it starts bringing up "install USB driver" windows, one on top of the other. I unplug the phone and installed USB drivers from the updater and still get the same thing. While it's bringing up the driver windows, it looks like it is connecting and disconnecting from the phone, but I can't see for sure since the USB installer windows pop up over it. So I tried using the KP500-Utils approach, but it says "no phone attached". I notice in Windows 7 (32bit) Device Manager that the phone is under "Portable Devices", not a USB device. Does that make any difference. Both of the updating utilities can't find the phone. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
never-used USB port "solved" my updater looping problem
It might be pure luck or a Windows fluke, but I got the updater to work by plugging the Fathom into a USB port I've never used before (I have two on the side -- that I use all the time for various devices -- and two on the back of my laptop). I plugged it in and then started LGMobile Updater and it saw my phone and updated it to V7. And it works. Hope this helps someone else.
Alternate Connection For This Method
Guys,
Hope this helps someone, I tried the initial method and ran into the same issue as others where the device is not recognized. I switched the USB connection to VZAccess Manager in Settings-Connections-Switch USB. The device then recognized and allowed update. I then tried a second device (company phones) and the VZW/LG Official updated worked with the same method.
Thank you LG for the craptastic updater and complete lack of knowledge about your device!
Thank you Bhast2 for your post, it saved my ass today and kept a customer happy!
P
can we upgrade the LG FATHOM to Win7 OS? Is there any possiblities?
Thanks
ya, I am wondering the same thing, if we can put windows 7 on it.
Also is there custom themes we can get or can we put at least android on it? Was thinking of exchanging my omnia 2 for this phone, not sure though.
So I have gone as far as I can get myself installed ADB and eclipse, along with the hello world tutorial. My problem currently is which drivers do I use for the phone? It asks me if I want to install verizon drivers upon connecting phone, do I need these? I installed google drivers via ADB
Thanks for helping out a n00bie
Here is what my device manager screen looks like. I have F driver working, is this the correct driver I need? What about the mass storage controller warning? can I ignore this?
okay went to htc.com and downloaded drivers....phone is recognized now. I have adb all setup so hopefully I can get there now.
wow! I made it through the hello android tutorial so everything seems synched up as far as adb goes. Now Im not really sure how to prepare for the rest. Anybody that has completed this process that could help?
Whats the link for chat?
thunderbolt root

you will thank me later lol
I'm begging at this point.. I have tried EVERYTHING I know to try and get root to work on this POS.... Never had this much problem with Samsung... But here we go...
Provider: Sprint (shutter at the thought but it's all i can afford)
Phone: LG G3
Model number: LGLS990
Software Version: LS990ZVA
Android Version 5.0.1

I have tried 3 or 4 different ways to root this phone. I have even tried the following links;

If this topic has been covered, it's nowhere I can find on this forum.. I know there are plenty of "Look, my root works!!!!1!111!!!" but to all fail.
Here is an image from my CMD screen:

Nobody? Any developers have any clue?
Im having the same problem also!curious to know if you got yours rooted yet?
Sent from my LGLS990 using XDA Free mobile app
In step 6 of the 2nd link, the commands should be...
Send_Command.exe \\.\COM4 < root
Send_Command.exe \\.\COM4 < reboot
In the CMD image you posted, it shows the command you typed only as:
Send_Command.exe \\.\COM4
RE: [Tool] One Click Root for ZVA - thread: Sprint LG G3 Root
Seen this Linux method work best for most Sprint Updated LS990ZVA's, with the same details you listed, however my Ubuntu didn't want to recognize the device with the Factory LG driver executable through Wine. This exact Sprint Version of the LGG3's seem the most troublesome. What worked for me(3rd of 3 ppl attempted this same device) was:
1)The newest of avicohh’s original one-click root LG Root, run on a stock windows7ultimate
2)LG's drivers(LGE Mobile ADB Interface) installed with error that device "was not currently running" in the properties
3)Windows had it show up as an "Android Sooner Single ADB Interface" running without error.(think this is the biggest reason for many that rooting is difficult.. the device needs to be communicating properly with the computer for it to push the files even with putting phone into download mode manually as i had to do still.(I have tried on Windows8, Windows7, UbuntuStudio14.04trusty in KDE and Gnome modes, ALL were 64bit. -- Windows7 and XP seem to work as they are 32bit. not sure if the hardware bus in many peoples pc's are to blame???
4)Followed the page's instructions @.droidviews.com/root-sprint-lg-g3-after-ls990zva-update/ ), and it worked great!
:good:Bump'dTWRP & Cloudy2.5
Now the only issue i am working on is that the LGG3 i got was hardlocked permanately to sprint even tho they gave me the msl# it seems i am just gonna hafta live with it till i figure how to reset the hardlock after the root & boot. (Or at-least till i get another LGG3 to risk flashing into this one's firmware somehow for reset???).
Recently got a G3 with Verizon. Running Lollipop 5.0.1. I've done quite a bit of reading about rooting, and understand the concept. Decided to try rooting my phone. I followed the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/log...de-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
I attempted to root my phone several times, on three different PC's each running Windows 7. The farthest I ever get is a 90% complete status where the GUI says "Rooting phone" and the phone says "downloading firmware." I've left it in this state for upwards of 10 minutes and I always end up having to pull the usb and remove the battery in my phone in order to restart it. Upon pulling the USB the GUI will immediately show it had completed the root but when I test for super user status (with Terminal Emulator "su" entry) it says "not found."
USB debugging is enabled. I have tried switching between MTP and PTP connections. I have tried several different USB ports on each machine I attempted this. I tried it by first manually installing the LG drivers on the computer as well as by letting Windows automatically install them. I have tried with the box that says to always allow connections from the computer checked as well as unchecked. I tried versions 1.3 and 1.2 of the script. With version 1.2 it seemed like it finished and it prompted me to push control+c followed by N and enter or something and then the command window closed, but the phone was not rooted.
What am I missing?
I'd really like to get this phone rooted as I am excited to create a recovery and experiment with custom ROM's.
Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

[Guide]LG One Click Root - root LG firmwares (KitKat / Lollipop)

The method you'll want to use for LP is located here...
[GUIDE][ROOT] Newest Root Method for LG devices
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3129197
If the 1st method (one-click script) doesn't work for, the 2nd method using the classic way will. Download and extract the "New_LG_Root_v0.1_by_dig.zip" file from the OP, then open an elevated command prompt from within the directory you extracted the files to.
Thanks
I thought I fixed that link. Oh well. Glad to see there's a new method. I will try this. Thanks!
This worked by the way. Thanks again!

Kind of surprised you're still running Windows 8.1. Windows 10 is free for you and better in just about every way, regardless of the UI changes. Just a recommendation, though I doubt it'd fix your issue.
There's an easy way to tackle this but it depends on how the driver is being installed. If you're connecting your phone to your computer and Windows is insisting on downloading and installing this "TP-Link" driver from Windows Update, there is a way to disable this in a few easy steps. If you're connecting your phone to your computer and Windows just assumes that it's a "TP-Link Android Phone" and applies the wrong pre-loaded driver (usually gives you a notification near the clock) then we're gonna have to get a bit crafty.
EDIT: Silly question. You don't have USB tethering or any wacky app that would be causing this issue, right?

No tether app or other apps no, thats why im lost as to why its started this BS , windows i know can be tricky WIN10 was not for me plus the free upgrade has past now (29July) anyway.

Would you mind doing something for me before performing the steps I'm going to list below? Go into Device Manager with the phone plugged in and installed as the stupid "TP-Link" BS and find it in the list of devices. Should probably be under Portable Devices or something. Right click it and click Properties, go to the Driver tab and click "Driver Details". All of the drivers should be located in the 'system32/DRIVERS' folder. Mind giving me the names of those drivers listed? Naming convention is typically driverName.sys.
Additionally, we're going to try a Group Policy change. Hit Windows Key + R and type 'gpedit.msc' and hit enter. A window labeled "Local Group Policy Editor" should come up. Then do the following:
Expand Computer Configuration (Left hand side, the navigation panel)
Expand Administrative Templates
Expand System
Expand Device Installation
Click Device Installation Restrictions
On the right hand side, now, there should be a list of restrictions. Somewhere in that list there should be an item "Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings". Double-click that and another window named the same thing should pop up. In the top left, set it to enabled and click Apply, then OK.
Unplug your phone and get rid of that ****ty driver if you haven't already and then restart and try connecting the phone again to see if the same incorrect driver install occurs.
@MKD73 You ever get this sorted out?
Sorry been away on holiday for the weekend , I'll be taking a look in the morning :victory:
Please give update
Have you resolved this issue? My laptop is acting the same. Device manager sees my phone as "TP-Link Android Phone" with sub category of "Android Bootloader Interface." I can't use ADB with it, not recognized.
I tried doing what Alcolawl said but nothing happens. When I right click the "TP Link--- it just says general properties, no 'drivers' etc. I saw the 'driver' option in the "Andoid bootloader Interface" . It says the driver is: winusb.sys, wdfCoInstaller01009.dll and WinUSBInstaller2.dll. When I tried to edit the group, it says "Windows can not find gpedit.msc
Hope you can help me. My phone is stuck in fastboost mode- LG D838

Help me please!
Did you guys manage to fix it? I tried everything you people said but it didn't work. I have a Blu Vivo Xi+ and my PC only recognizes it as TP-LINK Android Phone. I dumbly deleted it's OS and all it's data when trying to update it. I only have access to TWRP and fastboot, is there a way to fix it? I would love if someone could assist me ?.
