[Q] Nandroid Backups, How do I Export them? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

So i am running CWM recovery and i had mad a backup of my stock rom and now i dont want to store it on my device as it takes alot of space.
Can some tell me a way to export it so that i can store it on my usb and can restore it anytime.
I tried copying the file, [Stored in : /data/media/clockworkmod/backups/] to my usb drive. But in the recovery menu when i select restore from usbdisk, it says "No files were found"
Please suggest me a way

Rom manager & Making a back up issue

Hi, when i use Rom manager to make a back up, it automatically boots into recovery and and attempts to back up and fails.
It says
Waiting for sd card to mount (20s)
E:Cant mount /devblock/mmcblk0 (or/dev/block/mmcblk01)
(no such file or directory)
Waiting for sd card to mout (19s)
SD Card Mounted....(and then it creates an error log file)
I used to be able to back up like this, but for some reason it does not work.
I currently back up manually, booting into recovery and doing it that way.
Any Ideas??
Andy
Please do not use Rom Manager!!!
For Nandroid Backup / Restore use your recovery, for backups of apps and system use Titanium Backup. They are better and more matured.
Ok thanks for the advice,
Is there a way then to modify the file name so i know what ROM version etc i have backed up?

Ok thanks. Knew I could do it this way but wondered if could some how do it in a certain recovery or something.

Check the 4ext recovery in my signature. It automatically names your backup using the name of the ROM and the time the backup was created.

[Q] How to update a ROM and keep apps/game saves etc?

Hi, I'm new to rooting and to this forum. I have a HTC Desire that I am using that I rooted yesterday. The process was quite simple and I installed the Evervolv 3.0.0p10 - Jelly bean for HTC Desire yesterday and everything seems to run smoothly (apart from the camera but that's because its still pre-alpha) but when a new version comes out I don't know how to flash the next update without losing all my apps and game saves. I understand that you need to go into boot into Recovery mode then go into Clockwork Recovery but how do I backup all my apps? What I don't want is to restore to an older ROM with the apps on but what I do hope will work is somehow I can get the apps back on the new version of the ROM. Can someone help a noob here on how to do so please
Thanks!
Use titanium backup or mybackup from playstore to backup apps+data then save the backup on ur computer.

also, before you flash any rom update, or any flashable zip, make sure you nandroid backup!
in clockworkmod: backup and restore -> backup
nandroid backup saves your phone's EXACT state: apps, contacts, texts, homescreens everything, so you have a safe point to restore to in case something goes wrong.
these are stored in sdcard/clockworkmod/backup, you can also move these on PC for safekeeping (plus they start to take up a lot of space).

Thanks I did install Titanium backup and I redid backups for everything (I think) because it says "1 backup" underneath all the apps. What I don't understand is how I can save it onto the computer and how to restore everything, such as the apps onto the new ROM I have flashed onto the phone?

Plug ur phone into computer, select connect as disk drive and u can browse through ur files on sdcard and just copy the backup to computer or if u have a card reader, use that and do the same. To restore the apps on new rom just put the backup back on ur sdcard and download titanium backup from playstore then u can restore them. Never used titanium backup but im sure its pretty straight forward. Maybe eddiehk6 will give better instructions.

Okay I understand, thanks a lot for the help!

root, flash, backup file moving help

Hey quick question,
so I make a backup of my system for flashing. Then I move the backup onto a folder to my computer same with my titanium backup folder. So when I wipe and flash a new rom, I have all of my files for my system backup and my titanium backup on my phone. After I restore all of my apps after flashing the new rom, can I move the backup files and leave them on the computer as well as the system backup to save space? Is there anyway that I can still restore the system if it gets stuck in a bootloop - (besides flashing a new stock one)?
basically I want to store the system backup and the titanium backup on my computer so they are safe and because they take up about 4 gb of space on my phone.
I tried to be clear but let me know if I should further explain
Thanks
I wouldn't backup system apps with titanium, because they can vary from rom to rom. As long as you properly wipe your phone before flashing, you shouldn't get bootloops(can still happen). If you get a bootloop, try pulling the battery 1st. If your phone still bootloops, you have to use download mode and ODIN to flash stock ROM.

right which I have done before. I just want to know that if my phone does get stuck somewhere (has happened before, and I had to flash a stock rom and lost everything - lost backup) Would I be able to move my system restore and titanium backup files from my computer to my phone to be able to recover?
Basically store backups on computer, then if something happens, be able to transfer them back to phone
Thanks for the help
Generally it's good to leave backups someplace where they won't get easily corrupted or lost. Since the S3 has a microsd slot, sure, keep them on your computer and move them over if necessary.
My SOP is to keep the current backup on the microsd, and store the backups on my computer. Then if I need to reflash/nandroid back, they're there, and if my microsd is corrupted I have a known good backup.

As long as you can get into your custom recovery after anything happens, backups will work. Make sure to backup system, data, and boot. If not and you have to flash using ODIN, like starting from scratch, you may have issues such as md5 mismatches.

ok I was just looking to see if it was possible or not to transfer backups from computer to phone if the phone cant turn on ie. stuck in download mode or recovery mode.

[Q] Where is the backup

Where is the backup file for CWM?
Normally I would find it on the SD card/clockworkmod/backup. It might be there but I do not see it. Is it hidden?
How do I get to see hidden files on a rooted tabelt?
Still have not been able to locate it on the Nexus itself even using X-plore, so is there a way to find on the unit?
I did find the backups using ROM Manager and was able to download them to my PC doing the following:
The ROM Manager app has an option in the Manage and Restore Backups to Download Backups. You might want to try using it to create backups and download those backups to your computer.
Choose Download Backups and you will see:
Provided your phone and your computer are logged into the same network you can point your browser to the address shown on the screen and choose which of the backups you would like to transfer to your computer.
It will take a while depending on the size of the backup. It is downloaded as a zip file.
This may be a feature of the Pro Version, which I have, but the Pro version is worth every penny.

[Q] I cant find my CWM backup

I made a few backups of my phone in CWM and I have no problems at the moment of retoring, but i really need to backup them yo my pc and there is no way i can find them in my internal storage memory. When I enter in the CWM folder i find nothing like a backup (as I show in the picture). Can anyone help me to find them so I can move them to my computer?
Cwm backups are found in /data/media/clockworkmod/backups, you can pull the data using "adb pull /data/media/clockworkmod/backups"
