Help on XDA 2 parts

Hi,
On Ebay I have bought a XDA 2 PCB board. What I need help with is what other parts will I need to make work. So far I think I need:
1 DIY battery kit
1 Touchscreen LCD
1 Sync cable (which is best?)
some software for my PC, any ideas?
1 case, any ideas were I can get this from or has any one got one?
Any ideas on get this project up and running would be most appriecated.

Software on the pc is no problem.
You just need Active Sync, can be downloaded from here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/resources/downloads/pocketpc/activesync37.mspx

well i think that most peoples warrenty would replace their defect xda2 still
unless they abused it in a manner most faul that the company would notice
but with time and newer radio stacks and a full rom kitchen
you will mostlikely be able to get some
though as to buying the parts from new maybe diff to find and prob pricy aswell

i dont think i ever seen to pda's using 100% the same case

all pda's i've ever messed with have seperate lcd and touch screen

Is there any way to test that board before you spend so much money, because the xda2 is so new I dont see you getting secondhand parts and to buy them new is likely to cost somewhere near the price of buying a warranted unit.

So here are my thoughts, if they are complete crap let me know. :lol:
Get the board, attach the power and sync lead (can it run with out battery attached just on the mains?)
Get the LCD screen (ACX706AKM sony part, XDA I, is it the same screen for the XDA II)
Load up the ROM and Radio Stack, is this all I have to do to get Windows 2003 on the XDA?
Then get a case, by that time I'll probably have spent more than a new one.

Don't think you can use a XDA I screen, because it has less colors (4K instead of 64K).

Does anyone know the Part number for the XDA II screen, I'll try and source one that way?

But is that not for the XDA? not the XDAII, they have different screens!

Good luck finding a screen. I have called Sony trying to get one for XDA, and they referred me to the MFG who does not respond to any consumer inquiries. It seems that they don't want end users to have the ability to repair their own phones. If you find a source for the screen I'd love to know.

T-Mobile Dash replacement lcd screen

Does anybody know where i can buy a replacement LCD? I dropped my phone and its all half black!

you can get them through PocketPCTechs.com, I think they are about 160, but it's only 15 more to get them to install it. that's what I ended up doing, and they did a good job.

onsitecellularrepair.com does it cheaper 125 plus shipping charges (includes screen and labor)

Had same problem, but found a much cheaper solution than the ones you mention. After some searching I found http://www.RepairsUniverse.com
The screen was about $40 and they provided fitting instructions which I don't know what I would of done without. It arrived fast, and within 15 minutes I had the phone back up and running again. Been good since.

If I'm not mistaken you can also find some decently priced on eBay... Just do your homework and you should be alright...

Replacement housing for Excalibur

Hello there friends!
I'm thinking on getting a replace housing for my aged Dash, so it looks decent with the wm6.5 ROM
. I think the procedure is similar to replacing a broken screen, and I only need a T6 and an opening tool...
Does anyone knows where to find one for a reasonable price, besides eBay?
Do anyone knows if a "dummy" phone would serve as a donor?
Has anyone here done this before?

I am actually trying out the same thing. Waiting for my dummy to arrive. Sears has T6 (in Illinois) for like $3. And you need a precision Phillip's head too. I bought both today and spent right around $7. Dummy shipped from NJ on Monday. I will let you know when it gets here if it works. I read in an archive on here of another HTC model dummy having all the same outer housing and some inner parts as real phone. Keeping fingers crossed for real. Would be awesome to have a 'NEW' phone with 6.5 and in all black too.

I also had the idea to replace the housing with one from a dummy. But i read in some german forum, that at a dummy the housings are glued.

I am definitely interested in this too! Links and pics appreciated! Wanting to get the new Touch Pro 2, but may wait for a little better deal. All black housing w/ 3VO ROM...can tie me over for a little longer

Found it on eBay. Local T-Mo store was supposed to have on but girl never went to look for me after she sold my brother a phone. She said she thought they were glued. But like I said I read on here of an older HTC model having all the same outers just no inners. Tracked it this morning. Should be here tomorrow morning. As long as it has screw holes I can make it work. My old silverhousing is 3 yrs old. I take good care but 3 yrs is 3 yrs. Will let you know.

Sad to report
Yeah I am sad to say that my dummy phone came in the mail today. It was an EPIC FAIL. The only possible salvageable parts may be the keyboard. And that would be with some modifications as I do not think the buttons are transparent. The back of the screen where the LCD would be is solid black with the image printed on it. And the screw holes are different. I might be able to do something with it but I doubt it. It has none of the needed posts to place wires and circuit boards as the OEM. It was worth a shot though. I want a black DASH but don't really want to pony up the $100 or more for it where mine works fine. Its just ugly in silver. Calculator like. Ah well. So there ya have it. The dummy phone is a no go. I would post pictures but why bother. Anyone know where I can find an all black housing that is NOT clip on or a case? I can find the silver crap but not the black ones. Well thanks if you can. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

too bad i came to late, i would have told you dummy phones are not the same housing as regular phones, i tried it with several sprint phones when i worked at radio shack, they are made differently.

Yeah well its ok. My kids can score a cool spy toy now. I just want a black housing. I HATE the silver crap. I would take a red one with the silver crap but all I have found is green, pink and orange. Still looking though. Was worth a shot. Lesson learned.

Hi, I have just bought new original case for Galaxy 3 ,and I ve got a problem with the front part of case ... I cant get the old one down from the phone ... I unscrewed all six screws but havent still havent managed to get it down ... Any advice ? Thanks

Hinges..
I have never opened the case but from what I see, there a few hinges here and there(2 at the bottom part of the phone) which maybe on lifting a little will release the front case. If you have opened all the screws, then the only thing that would be keeping the case in place would be the hinges.
Don't push hard... and still if you can't, then take it to a service center.
Btw how much did it cost you? I am also planning of getting one.

I think link wont help you much,cause Its Czech eshop working only in Czech republic ( and its in Czech language ). And actually I cant find link for it now,but as I say,its about 10 Euro and I think you can find it on ebay.

New original case
How`s the case? Are you happy for changing it? Have you changed it by yourself?

Yo u cannot remove the front part. It's glued to the screen. The screen and the all come attached heavily with glue or something line that. Watch the I-fixit videos pink YouTube. They will give you as idea how to dismantle it.

If you are in warranty period then give it to service center
