Obnoxious Ad - About xda-developers.com

wtf is this?
You get an ad with no close button. Then when you hover over it you get a popup with annoying sound, which does have a close button, but doesn't get rid of the original floating ad at the bottom.
See pics.

Please use the thread in place for reporting this, Thanks.

push notfications although improving need work

im thrilled how the facebook app has push notifications now however that a long with other push notifications needs work because often times the message will be too long to fit in the actual notification window and i will have to leave the app im currently in to go read the whole notification
i think they need to improve on the push notifications maybe when a push notification occurs the whole messaged is "streamed" in the window like a moving banner so you can read the whole thing choose to go to the app to respond or move on and continue what you were doing. much like how android works
anyone else feel this way?
I never thought about streaming, that sounds great. The infrastructure needs to be improved for toast/live tile notifications. This is supposedly a selling point but whether it works or not is a crap shoot on most days. If the core problem is developer coding then it needs to be more closely scrutinized during the review process. Also, a central repository for notifications needs to be accessed via some gesture.
I think when Mango comes along you won't really care that you have to leave the application to see the entire thing.
please delete....
In my opinion they made a good start to pop up the message on the top. You can slide it to right to dismiss and klick to show. But instead of klicking on the tile they should have made a slide to left ,like to right to dismiss, to view the app where the message is shown (e.g. Facebook) and slide down to show the full message in an extra message window
the toast notification is barely useful
most of the notifications i can only read about 60% 70% of the message before its cut off and so i do have to leave my current app to see what sgoing on, on my android phone the entire message would stream or show in that toast window, it was very helpful and useful
i just hope they realize this soon enough

i think thats a great idea! i wish we had some way to get that message across to them sigh
i wish the toast notification didnt automatically disappear, and the lockscreen showed 3rd part notifications.
Hey registered here just to reply to this
I was thinking the same thing, but I'm not sure how scrolling text will work resource wise. Although this would be pretty neat for a sport app, with updating scores and such.
What I was thinking was more of a pull-down overlay. Where you get a text/push notification, and you can pull it down to either reply right there, or view the entire message. I think that may work better, and would be pretty convenient.
IMO, the idea that used in Nokia N9 for notification is really neat and it is suitable for WP7. flick to left to show apps list, flick to right to show all notification with simple option optimized for the notification like reply, forward, etc. etc.
I would also like to see the "notifications" tab in the me tile show all notifications, so you would have a record, all in one neat, easily accessible place

Hrrrm, great Idea!
If the current app you're in has a landscape mode, switch to landscape before the notification goes away and you'll see even more if not all of it.

You can have a read through the thread below, different ideas and opinions on what to do and what not to do. I'm personally all for the N9 system while some people would like the Android curtain in WP7.

Speaking of notifications, I have a group pinned to my start screen, and I had a missed call from someone in that group and the tile said "missed call" with the callers name on it.

[SOLVED] Blue blur?

OK on some web pages, I get a blue flickery bar on either side. It happens when scrolling up or down if my finger swipe goes off to a side a bit,or if I swipe to the side on a page that doesn't scroll sideways. I can actually push right or left and hold it if I want. I relize my explanation sounded pretty dumb but that's all I got....and it happens not on every page. My noob.guess is its a certain type of page that causes it
Is this the LCD issue they talk about?
Will they fix this?

This is the overscroll glow, if you go to the end of a page, instead of going too far, it will just glow, to let you know you've reached the end of the page.
LOL It's called glow. It's an animation. You're fine

I find the overscroll bugged on the browser Samsung uses though ... like if I am not even at the end of a page, the SIDE of the browser will start glowing when the page is formatted to fit the mobile screen. I wish there was a way to disable it because it's annoying to have that each time you try and scroll down.
Exactly. Only on Samsung browser. MIRREN no problem. Can I freeze Samsung browser?
yes, it is safe to freeze it
and it's not Samsung Browser, that is the stock Android browser

Seeing ads in notification bar.

Hey all.
Recently (like a week ago or so) I started seeing ads in my notification bar... it has an icon which is a white star with a red dot in the middle. The last one I got said "College degrees available" and when I clicked it... it brought me to gameloft.com (first time seeing this site)
Any ideas? It's not that much of a nuisance, but I'm just afraid of spyware and such.
I didn't install any new apps (at least I don't think), but did update my apps.
Thanks.
next time, press and hold the ad in the notification bar. Then a pop up should appear which brings you to the App info. there you can disable notifications for the app. This should help.
Or you just go to the app info directly if you know which app causes this.

you are right, I don't tought about this, thanks.
You may want to try an app like Airpush Detector to find what apps are giving you these adds.

One star the app and leave a comment saying they are spamming the notification bar, devs should be discouraged to using these types of ads. I have no problem with paying a dollar (or a few if needed) or seeing in app ads, but ads being displayed on the home screen or notification bar from an app is unacceptable.

This. No app should have that sort of crap in them.

I second this app. Try it to find out the culprit and let others know in the market review.

[Q] How to disable zoom?

Hi guys.
The feature that causes the screen to zoom in when doubletapped is giving me fits. I'm not consciously doubletapping but it constantly zooms in , driving me nuts. I did a search but cannot find anything on this.
Is there a way to disable this zoom feature when on the internet?
Thanks in advance.
Are you sure you're not just swiping your hand along the side of the phone (the screen going vertically)? This is a Jellybean "feature" with no options to disable. There are a couple roms in the Dev section that have it removed, but I don't think its a simple edit to get it out.
Yeah currently infamous rom has option to disable in the latest build. I think jovy is planning to implement that as well but he is under the weather. But the is no simple way to remove or disable now.
we are all Noobs at XDA. please help each other.

recent apps broom icon vs close apps...

i see a broom which gives me a warning, and the standard close all background apps button.
whats the difference? should one be used over the other?
I agree, this is confusing. OP should fix the popup to be a little clearer on what the hell the function is and how it is different to the standard close all button.
