Im completely new to both sony and android phones, but the guides on this forum are great, just read and make sure you understand everything before you start and rooting is pretty simple

I would say the exact opposite. Coming from Samsung Devices it a real pain to complete 21 (!) steps in order to root your phone.

Have to agree, been trying all night with various guides on the forum

@sachilleas & @fuzz321
Well, it is't one-click process, but you can only thanks to current absence of any working exploit for 4.3+ sony devices... But I have to agree with @munch77 , guides here are really great

[Q] Rooting .283

(Yes looked through a lot of threads before I made this)
Well I'm kinda new to all this rooting and in search of help, I've looked through a lot of guides and well it's pointing me at diff' directions.
I'm trying to get my Xperia arc 2.3.4 .283 locked Europe (Norway) rooted but I'm a bit concern about the 0% battery issue and bricking. Could some one guide me to well... Some where there it's easy to flash/oneclick?
Reading the guides should give you the general idea of what to do, and any questions or doubts could have been asked on them.

That thread is hard to follow, it's kind of all over the place!
I use this. In step 2 it says select option 1, it should be 2. Select option 2 and run it. SIMPLE!

What I was meaning by my post is that, you should ask your question in the thread that has the Original Post(OP) issue. You could post your issues about clearing up the steps in the OP, in the thread that everyone reads for information. You should post your own steps in that thread also.
chances are someone else will have the same issue and you will be able to help.
You could PM the author of the OP for the thread with some helpful suggestions or even re-write it as an example.
no offence was intended, just help.

The link for rooting GB/ICS is below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29713944&postcount=1
The OP of that thread clearly says there are three methods and the third method is supposed to be easiest, then why would one want to got to other options. If one is using ICS he is supposed to use 3rd method
I don't see what is there so difficult to follow or confusing and more over every one here helps out each other. You just need to post in correct section.
I don't know how long you have been in this forum, but the thread was started when we had just GB and no rooting method and it has been updated as and when we got better rooting methods.
The problem with all the new arrivals into this forum is that they do not have patience to read through the posts.

Yes you can update it...... But you will lose root.
I need to clear some thing for you, rooting does not give you access to download apps free from Google Play. So you should remember that also. I am saying this because you said so-

Oh and please don't post links to cracked apps or wares sites. Mods are very strict about this. If you are unhappy with stock ICS, just go to the development section and check out some custom ROMs. And please be patient - JB is coming in May.

For that, you have to flash a pre rooted rom using flash tool.... If you are planning on upgrading to ICS firmware, no need of flashing pre - rooted rom.. Every ICS firmware on Xperia S can be rooted easily (1 minute work).. So update you phone using PC companion or flashtool and then root it...

Root is completely different from jailbreak...
There is no jailbreak for Android...
In Android JB means 'Jelly Bean' aka android 4.1

** Root achieved for 98.30.1 9.8.1Q-94-1 **

k1mu has created a USABLE root tool for the RAZR M, originally intended on the Samsung S4.
Low and behold it works on our latest firmware 98.30.1, 9.8.1Q-94-1.
There are many others that have confirmed that this works as well as me.
<MOD EDIT> Visit the original thread HERE
Credits go to k1mu.
Make sure the device is connected via USB to a computer and make sure USB debugging is enabled.
Simply unzip, and run the .bat file and follow the instructions.
Good luck!
I don't get it. Are you going to keep your attachment in sync with his? He has updated 16 times in a year.
Plus an update is due anytime for us in particular.

Do not take me wrong, I am the king of attachment whores, but I could not help pointing out a key issue here.
You did not even put a link to the Op!:

You give no credit to kc6wke who is in our gratitude also!
Edit If I came on & saw your op about this topic, I would not have created another. I would contribute to yours....

I agree. Without the detailed directions in the original post in the VZ S4 forum, important directions to make this work is lost.
For example, I'm going to be posting directions this weekend that will allow this to work on a number of devices without using adb.
I'm trying to make this better, run on more devices, make it faster, etc... I can't be managing snapshots all over the forums.
Yeah, I know, it's exiting to have root. Let's not complicate it unnecessarily.

I figured people would probably still ask about the BL. However, you can still do a lot of tweaking on the stock ROM if you are rooted.

Root for FTF 4.3 Update 15.4.A.0.23 LOCKED BOOTLOADER

I believe it's useful for sake of clarity to concentrate in a single TD the search of the rooting method for the new firmaware JB 4.3 and its detailed explanation.
So far I have seen this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51395773&postcount=38 from gamer649 mentioning the methods NOT working
this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51397314&postcount=48 from rsrishabh suggesting another method (anyone with a follow-up ?)
and finally this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51425160&postcount=99 claiming an easy method; StraightEdgeKid, could you please elaborate your method here ?
Here is mine one i have already rooted 4.3 successfully..

I believe the point andyxoxo is making has a lot of sense: haresh311999's methods works only with unlocked bootloaders. People who cannot unlock bootloaders or doesn't want (myself), doesn't have a working rooting tool/method. Let's write in this thread our effort (I changed the title accordingly).
So far among the known methods only what rsrishabh is suggesting has to be tested.

As expected it didn't work. It wipes /system and then flashes the one from the .ftf.
Well, I have rooted my phone with flashing 4.1 kernel and then this SuperSU app from here.

Then again flashed 4.3 kernel.

I think this method might work.
Bcz if we select not to wipe user data, it will keep the user apps and data, I'm not sure what happens with system apps and SuperSu is system app, yeah?
Possibly it won't.
This is just my guess.
It will keep the SuperSU app but it will not have the "root" power.
It's just a guess, someone must try on locked bootloaders.
