Ok, so i feel like an idiot but i really need some guidance.
I recently acquired a brand new xperia z with the UK carrier EE, really happy with it but i knew fairly soon after recieving it that i would be rooting it.
This is my 3rd xperia device and the first one that actually allows the bootloader to be unlocked, huzzah.
So i went ahead and unlocked the bootloader with no trouble at all, but the problem i am now faced with, is that i want install CWM and continue on to root the device, but since the bootloader has been unlocked, the settings menu on the phone crashes consistently and the SD card isnt working properly in the phone, when connected to my laptop the sd card is not showing either.
What im asking is, has anyone else had this problem? and does anyone know of a fix ?
i dont know what information is required so i'll provide as much as i think is relevant
Model
C6603
AV 4.3
build 10.4.1.B.0.101
if you need anything else just ask and i'll do my best to provide it
Thanks in advance!

Hello!
I'm interested in rooting my recently acquired Xperia PLAY (French version), because the bloatware is taking up too much space. However, I don't want to unlock the bootloader as I don't want to void my guarantee. Is this possible?
On a side note, I've heard that some people buy phones that have allready unlocked bootloaders; is there any way to find out if mine is too?
Thanks a lot,
Si1ver Shad0w
Buying phones with unlocked bootloaders is impossible unless it's used. You heard wrong
You can relock bootloader anytime anyways, but track id and qriocity will be gone forever
I used the XDA App to post this, what did you use?
Yeah, I knew that I could relock it, but still, I would prefer a rooting method that doesn't require this.
Also, to root it, I have to install some kind of new kernel or firmware, right?
OK, apparently a way to root without unlocking is to install the 2.3.2 FW and then do an OTA upgrade. But I can't find the ftf file. Can someone help me?
Also, for a French Xperia PLAY, I guess the UK ftf file is the best?
EDIT: Also, the XDA forums are very restrictive to newbies, no replying in the development section, have to wait 5 minutes between posts, etc...

Hi,
As it is written in the thread title, I am the proud (and frustrated) owner of a an Xperia Arc on Rogers (Canada). I am frustrated because since the "classic" bootloader unlocking methods do not work with Rogers branded phone, I'm unable to use any flashing method that require fastboot.
Also, I've seen a bootloader unlocking method that involves removing the battery, attaching wires on contacts, ... And I do admit that this kind of stuff scares me a little bit.
I wanted to know if wether or not it was possible to use Clockworkmod recovery (or Rom Manager) with a rooted 2.3.2 version and "just" install CM7 that way ? I know it sounds a little naive, but I'm currently stuck trying to root (after a downgrade to 2.3.2) with Gingerbreak and it stalls and the phone ends up never rebooting.
So if anyone has a solution/idea on how to flash CM7 on my locked bootloader Arc, that would make me (and probably dozens of other Rogers Arc owners) sooooo happy.
Also, I just wanted to know if it was possible to flash CM7 with Flashtool ? Before having my Arc, I had an X10 and used flashtool about 15 times to flash MiUI Roms... If yes, would it be by "converting" the CM7 files into a .ftf file ?
Thank you very much
if i were you i would save the hassle. unlock bootloader, and go. i just did it this past weekend so i can get root without jumping through hoops.. i was extremely anxious about it too..but if you follow the instructions you really cant go wrong. ps. im using rogers arc too! and as to your questions.. i really dont think you can.

+1 If you can follow instructions then everything is pretty straight forward.

Roger's Arc owner here as well.
So the the official method via the sony website dont work for us?
As CM7 is getting stable and since its pretty much release, I was gonna start to work on this ...
I was hoping to unlock bootloader ( through either sony , or one fo the threads and peeps that can do it here ) , root it and enjoy CM7.
Hope the official one works :S

It doesn't, no Operator locked handset can, so you will need to use Alejandrissimo or Jinx13. Worth every penny.
Allright thanks for the heads up , I'll set up an apointment or somethin with Alejandrissimo

Hi,
Thanks for your quick answer gk_terato. So is the 24 USD $ really worth it (e.g. with alejandrissimo) ? I know a fraction of this amount is used to pay the tokens, but I don't know how much this is really worth... I've (sim) unlocked all of my previous phones and it was never over 15 CAD $.
And btw, I was just wondering wether or not unlocking the bootloader would, at the same time, remove the sim restriction ?
Thanks again !

Hi,
My HTC One V is brand new, and I have an issue. When my card sim is in, it say Limited services Emergency calls only. I rode somewhere that someone had the same problem as me, and when he flashed his rom, it fixed it. So i tried it. But i have the same problem, and my Bootloader is unlocked. So i can't return my phone right ?It missing me 2 files when it check the SD card in HBOOT. Saying me wrong file or missed file something like that.
Somebody can help me to fix this, or if i brick the phone i'll be able to return it ?
Thank you.
Well, first things first...
I am a noob, and this is the first time I am using an android phone (moving from the Nokia N97 and Nokia C6). So please be patient (and tolerant).
The dealer I got this phone from wasnt sure if it was soft-unlocked (the ones which get locked if you update OS) or otherwise, and he most certainly didnt have (or give me) the unlock code.
The phone has been a delight for the past 3 months, and I love the the stunned look on the faces of everyone around, when I slide open the keyboard!! However, after doing a google search I discovered that there's an ICS update for the i927. And that has resulted in me googling to find out the likelyhood that my phone will re-lock to ATT.
To my surprise (or inability), I couldnt find a definite answer/guide as to what users of unlocked i927s, who do not have the unlock code, should do exactly, to "safely" update to ICS.
I have downloaded most of the tools (Odin 3.07, EFS 2.0.7 and the "I927UCLJ3_I927ATTLJ3_ATT" stock from samfirmware). And I had KIES and the drivers installed from day 1.
But the problem is that I dont have a road-map. Or a troubleshooting guide, in case I encounter unanticipated errors/crashes.
The other thing is uncertainty about the phone getting "re-locked". Some mobile repair guys say I should flash the update with my eyes closed (it wont re-lock to ATT, they say). However, the other side disuades me, and I have yet to find an across-the-counter shop which will give me an unlock code.
Of course, I think I can live without the update if I have to. But, I was hoping for a bit of help (or a step-by-step or link-by-link guide).
The other thing I want to know is whether flashing the ATT ICS update can also corrupt my IMEI details (and hence the need to back up with EFS)??
Finally, I would like mention that my phone is an un-rooted i927 (ATT) running Android 2.3.6.
Any help would be really be appreciated.
Not sure what to make of this..
The lack of replies has made me (even more) doubtful if a noob like me would be able to update my i927. I hope someone can tell me if my i927 is "updateable" or is the ICS update preferably for only the "authentic" i927 handsets??

If you have a SIM card from something not using the AT&T network, put it in. That will tell you if your phone is SIM unlocked or not (I think that's what you're asking).
In theory, applying the ICS update may re-lock your phone; it depends on how it was SIM unlocked in the first place.
My recommendation is:
1) Update to ICS (it's worlds better than GB)
2) If the phone re-locks to AT&T, then just buy and unlock code for a few dollars
phone's current status

I am already using a local SIM card on the phone (Airtel) since the day I bought the phone. All the features are working on the phone, except the WiFi tethering, which is also the biggest reason for my doubts (and reluctance) about flashing the ICS update. The WiFi tethering feature does not recognise my Airtel data connection (2G), making me to believe some features are still AT&T specific (like the ringtones feature).
The other thing is, re-locking is a significant concern, but its not the biggest concern (for me). Since I first visited the "Captivate Glide" section on this forum, I have read about problems like the IMEI number (or other important phone data) corrupting, bricking my phone (which I know no one in the world can guarantee against), or the phone getting stuck in the start up mode (read it somewhere here, although I dont know if it was an OS update related failure).
Anyways, I hope that clears up the current status of my i927, and thanks for replying.
A bit more help please...
I know I asking basic noob questions about updating, but I was hoping for a bit more guidance actually...
Like what do I do with the I927UCLJ3_I927ATTLJ3_ATT.zip file?? Do I unzip it, or just copy it the phone memory and reboot into Odin??
The other thing is I started the EFS app on my PC and connected my phone to it, but the IMEI and other numbers are just all 0s. So, I am thinking, I did something wrong there as well...
I am well aware that no one in the world can guarantee against bricking a phone. I just want to have a proper guide on how to update, so that I have the best odds possible

1. It seems you're trying to upgrade your Glide via Odin. Unzip the zip, get all the files, put them in Odin folder (NOT the SD card, Odin is a PC-based tool) in the forums to proceed.
EDIT: Google is man's best friend. This is the Odin guide I followed when just a week ago I'm still new to my Glide: http://androidromupdate.com/2012/11/10/i927uclj3-new-ics-4-0-4-for-samsung-sgh-i927-captivate-glide/
2. Your EFS may already be dead Or I don't know, never used that tool before.

Okay I'll still advice you use the efs tool to. Back up your efs foder, then put your phone in download mode, using Odin flash the stock ICS ROM when its through flash any of the recovery through Odin again then allow the phone to reboot. you can now flash any of the ROMs I prefer the lite ROM anyways.
Good luck.

Hi guys, maybe someone can help me. I have unlocked boot loader on xperia m, then locked it back and the bad thing is I didn't do back up of drm keys. so now when i do screen mirroring I get dhcp error. Is it possible to disable dhcp check or get drm keys somewhere? installing custom firmware is not an option, because I was late to work once because alarm failed on custom firmware and had other few bugs. is there any solution to make screen mirroring workk again? now I'm running 4.3 rooted. thanks guys
no ideas?
I can tell you that you have got no way of getting DRM keys back as you didn't back them up. You have lost your ones forever and you cannot install anybody else's as they are device specific and will hard brick your phone if you attempt it.
As for the DHCP check, I am unsure of if it is able to be disabled as I am assuming it requires your DRM keys before it is able to work.
I found that there is some fix for xperia z to disable dhcp check, but it's not working on xperia m. I spent hours doing a research on this problem, many people have it, so I thought some one should know something about it. I found that you can do it on cm11 but I want to use official firmware. Thanks
Desperately need a solution
Hi everyone!
I need the same thing as Tadokas, and so as him, I don't want to install custom rom because it still has a lot of known bugs, I really admire the custom roms cookers but at the moment I cannot install it because I use my phone mainly for work and need it as stable as possible, I really love my xperia M but eversince I unlocked the bootloader I saw myself facing this problem, and the mirrorcast was one of the main reasons I chose this phone because I would use this feature a lot to show pictures on our tv to my grandparents once they cannot properly see them on a tiny cell phone screen, even on pc they complain its not all clear for them, they're almost 80 year old and I love them.
Please, if a kind soul could give us a solution the same way they did to xperia Z, I'll be eternally greatfull!
Cheers everyone!
