[Q] Need help with modem - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, I posted here several weeks ago about me trying several things on my SPH-L520 to get root back after Knox, and ultimately failing until I found s0be's CyanogenMod project for the SPH-L520. This saved my device and I have a fully working ROM again with root access and the likes, however back when I started this commotion I deleted the modem off of my phone. After tinkering with my brothers phone today and following some very helpful threads I have successfully recovered the modem.bin from his phone. Unfortunately, this is where my expertise ends, as I don't know how to build the constituent parts to include in a .zip to make this modem flashable. Do to the current state of development for the SPH-L520 I also haven't found any modem packages that would work for me on a CDMA network, as most (read: all) of the modem packages I have found are for international LTE variants, and even if my phone successfully accepted them, well you know why that probably wouldn't work. So I'm asking for help, one final push to make my phone a phone again and not a fancy PDA. If anyone knows how I can turn the modem bin i have into a flashable zip, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance, Hans.

Perhaps this thread can help you: http://www.rwilco12.com/forum/archive/index.php?thread-92.html
You need to flash through Odin twice for the modem to take effect.
You will probably be creating a .tar.md5 for modem.bin only

Thank you for linking to that thread.Unfortunately, Knox prevents Odin from successfully flashing the modem.tar I created. I'm going to try backing up my brothers modem with ZipMe and installing it on my phone that way.
Hans

What the hell is up with my phone? I just when checking around the firmware file with ES File Explorer, and right there inside is the modem files! But for some reason it's not working, the modem isn't being loaded or something because I still have no phone coverage... This is very strange.
Hans
EDIT: So I went into my connectivity settings and tried to add a APN. It wouldn't save to my phone. After that I tried changing my phone from NV to RUIM/SIM, but it wouldn't switch. I also tried to configure a network, but it said I needed to insert my SIM and restart the phone. Odd...

[Q] Modem.bin

I need the Epic 4G Touch's modem.bin
Like an idiot, I flashed the OC kernel over on 'phone', so I need to flash the modem.bin. But the link in the Android dev section is down, and all other references to the stock modem.bin uses the very same dead link! It is maddening!
So, I humbly request that the modem.bin be re-upped to a mutliupload page to ensure this doesn't happen again.
EDIT: And like an idiot, I go and make it in the wrong section! Gaaarrr, I gave up cigarettes for this?!
Could use this file also please... and thank you for these forums...
Yup one more request for the modem.bin
was porting some of the overseas roms and forgot to delete the modem update from the package like a noob. Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to any kind soul who can help us out.
I searched "flashed phone in odin"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1284602&highlight=flashed+odin+phone
Try the forum search next time guys
Thanks man, but thats not the problem I at least can find many references to the modem.bin download but all ultimately point to
h t t p://bit.ly/rhlkhC
which redirects to
h t t p ://ninpo.qap.la/epic4gt/modem.bin
and shows as page not found.
it may just be me but seems like there is only one download location and no alternative, and that location just doesn't work.
we need an alternate download.

Updated the guide with that link too.

thank you thank you thank you and a clickety thanks to you too.
Curious, has anyone flashed an Epic 4G Radio by mistake? If so, what were the results? Could it be undone without permanent issues?
Yes, I have. It just kills your signal. Permanent LOS lol. Doesn't brick or anything just flash the modem.bin for our phone and all is well.

i flashing this modem.bin but it looks like it is eg12... any idea on where i can find eg30 modem.bin? Thats the one my phone came with before i blew it away by accident and now i only have eg12. Thanks!
Well ill be damned....
looks like all the modem.bin files out there are the eg12 version (as i flashed to fix my phone also)
and my mom's has the eg30.
on further inspection this creates another problem, even after returning to stock and resetting everything if you plug your phone into kies the eg12 version gives a "this version of the device cannot be upgraded" while the eg30 says "this device is up to date" (both were hacked and returned to stock to check this)
if anyone knows the adb command to pull a modem.bin i'll do it and post it (though on some phones it's not possible?) i believe the modem.bin came out of the sammy sdk. hope im wrong.
anybody found a solution for this yet?

[Q] CM9 on Gio S5660M

So i have the Gio S5660M model, is it possible to put cyanogenmod 9 on it? do i have to take different steps from the S5660 model? If so, is there a posted guide on how to do so?
From my experience, just use the same steps.
Good luck!
Okay, well ive successfully installed it, few concerns. Uhm, where it should say my service provider, it says 302880(not sure what that means) Every few minutes, the screen will go black, or go black and then the brightness changes. I can hardly connect to the internet, sometimes my texts wont send, also wont sync my facebook which i noticed was an update in beta8. Not sure if i did something wrong, seeing as these problems shouldnt be occuring reading the changelog. any thoughts?
It sounds like you've flashed an Europe/Asia 5660 baseband as well. Undo that and you should be fine.
302880 is the MNC/MCC pair for your carrier. In this case, the Bell/Telus shared network. (Which I find somewhat odd; I would expect 302610 or 302220 for Bell/VMC/Solo or Telus/Koodo respectively.)
Good luck,
Darkshado
That sounds about right How would i go about undo ing that?
Through Odin, flash the amss image only. Or you could use dd in recovery as well.
The amss image of the S5660M rom? (sorry still new to this stuff)
How do i flash only the amss file ?
Dig some more through early Gio related threads. The explanations are there.
Hint: Tar archives can be edited. Remove what you don't want and flash with Odin.

Root SGH-I757

Anyway to root Bell Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE???
I cannot find anything on google or in this forums.
Thanks!!!
yea me either ive been searching for a couple weeks now.... it sucks
Rooting i757M
Am also still looking how to root this thing. The Skyrocket HD is merely the same phone, branded on AT&T carrier and this article made it clear that the phone has been silently put to the side, in favor of the coming S3. (phonesreview.co.uk/2012/05/10/samsung-galaxy-s3-buries-att-sii-skyrocket-hd).
That is, even on samsung online personal profile page, you can even find the SGH-i757M in the list of phone version, to add in your owner's page.
If anyone of you manage to root the phone, thanks to let me know.
Correction: The SGH-i757M can be found in the BAR model section on Samsung profile page and not under Smartphone. Hmm... weird categorization. Are those bar phones not smartphones? Oh, they are mini tablets.
Here is one.
Do you have any procedure to use that files? I just don't want to brick my phone
There's no any special procedure other than flash it with Odin
There're many tutorials about it here and there like that for example.

Has this been tested and confirmed to work? I don't have the device yet but this may make my decision to buy one.
dsixda, well, all I can say is that I flashed it personally (into E120L though) and it worked (including root).

Hey that is great news. I wonder if the CWM for the E120L is compatible then?
I wonder if this works to root the device, as I've read it worked for the Asian versions of the GS2 HD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
dsixda, I guess it won't be too hard for you to check that as you're recognized developer
You can download the stock I757M firmware with the CheckFus using advanced tab (or using cli only version) with the following data:
Model: SGH-I757M
Product code: SGH-I757ZKMBMC
HIDSWVER: I757MUGLCA/I757MOYCLCA/I757MUGLCA/I757MUGLCA
Yes, I'll try all that as soon as I get my device Always nice to have the stock Odin firmware so that I don't need to dump everything beforehand in case something goes wrong.
Thank you again
Just FYI, the stock firmware is now available at sammobile.com. Grab an account and search for SGH-I757M. The download is much faster than using CheckFus.
Dsixda! So happy your getting this Device, I also want to say thank-you for your Kitchen you created!! Amasing work. Used it all the time with my Evo 3d.
Just got the Samsung Galaxy s2 hd lte with the Bell network, Do you have any plans to incorporate this into your Kitchen??
Also is there any easy Root anyone knows of yet that doesn't involve Odin? Like superoneclick...etc

Try the Zergrush method which I linked in the previous page.
I haven't decided 100% whether to get it, as I still love my original S2. But if I get it I will incorporate it into the kitchen, once we figure out the custom recovery method.
I'm assuming any of the Tengrak GS2 HD recovery images (Odin .tar) will work, as long as you don't flash the associated Tegrak kernel for the ES120L/S/K?
You can always flash the stock firmware above in case you mess up.
Tried the Zergrush method, I had no luck. Oh well no big deal for now

Or flash the first link provided by rxulan in page 1. It's the stock ROM but the system.img has superuser injected in it.
And/or Google for the Tegrak custom recovery in Xda. Just flash one of those recovery.tar meant for the HD, but not the kernel.
ODIN ?

ODIN does not recognise .img or .ext4 files. I understand those are recovery files that CWD can restore but your device should already have been rooted. This is exactly the purpose of this thread, rooting the device first of all. This have been difficult for us to find the right .md5 files to use in ODIN. The device we're trying to root, SGH-i757M.
@ezechias
Odin doesn't recognize the files inside the rooted tar archive (the one linked on page 1), but you can flash them as a tar.md5, which you already know is a preferred format. There are guides online on how to convert it to tar.md5, you can Google it or I can post it later.
First, try to flash the TAR file as is; if it doesn't work then convert to tar.md5, then flash it.
Anyways, it's strange that nobody wants to be the lab rat to test the rooted TAR or the custom recovery that we have already discussed. We have the emergency stock ROM to fall back on if anything goes wrong. Looks like I'll have to purchase this device soon and try it out myself I already have all the files and stock firmware downloaded and ready to go
ICS for E120 K/L/S has been released.
I'm sure the same will happen with I757M pretty soon

[Q] [Help] (Alltel) Odined Generic Modem.bin (No Data)

Alright guys, I'm posting this here because it's the closest forum to the SCH-R760x I can find (CDMA SGSII) I think you guys are the D710 but I suppose the modem works about the same.
Anyway, in a fit of despair I odined the stock files for the USCelluar Varient of the SGSII which yes... is different.
So here's my problem, it may be more than this, but this is what I've noticed.
-After odining the USCC stock files, under About Phone>Status the "user name" field showed (phonenumber)@uscc.net
-So I odined the Generic stock files ( like I should have done in the first place) with Phone EFS Clear checked and now the same field shows (phonenumber)@carrier.com
-Opened modem.bin from the stock files .tar in a hex editor and found in offset 0822A0 "@carrier.com"
-Tried editing modem.bin to @awcc.com but after saving the file and trying to odin I get a failed. (replaced character spaces with hex 00) @carrier.com=12 characters @awcc.com=9 characters
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21311280/modem.bin <--- modem.bin file if anyone wants to give editing a shot.
I don't know if anything else beyond this needs to be changed but I'm pretty sure this is at least one of my problems (besides stupidity)
It's almost like my phone is back in the generic state and needs to be programmed for Alltel so if anyone know anything about the initial programming needed for a smartphone at Alltel that may work as well.
No I'm not Verizon, this is still Alltel now owned by Allied Wireless Communications
So anyway, any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also if this would be better suited in a different section please advise.
Thanks xda, you guys have always been great and hopefully can get me through this as well.

My first endeavor would be to look up alltel phone programming, if that wasn't possible, but could still be the fix, I'd take it in to the store and see what they know. I would say this just happened and you don't know what happened.

[Q] [HELP] Soft Bricked i9505

I rooted my GS4 yesterday and had no issues at all until i tried to flash a MOD to obtain wireless hotspot, but what i didnt notice was the MOD was for a Sprint version GS4. I know know if thats exactly what made my phone brick but im pretty positive because it was during the reboot that the phone got stuck on the TMO screen and apparently remaining soft-bricked. I spent the rest of the night and all of today reading and researching how to fix it myself before coming here to ask for help, so please bare with me.
I have already attempted to flash the official stock firmware using Odin, but it displays an error everytime saying it failed and something about AUTH. Sorry if im sounding vague, i am on a back up phone to use the internet and forgot to right down the exact message.. Anywho, i tried wiping everything and redoing the process and i even tried to flash the appropiate PIT file that i found but it still displays an error and says failed because of some AUTH or SEC problem.
Ive been at this diligently for almost 12 hours. My brain is filled with all these suggestions and methods that i have tried to use to restore my phone back to factory, but none of them have worked. I can still get into recovery and all that, so im assuming that there is still good chance i could fix the problem?
Also i am starting to get myself more and more confused about whether the firmware i downloaded is the right one i need for my phone, it seemed so at first but now i see theres TONS of region codes that can determine the firmware version?
Sorry if im all over the place, but i just dont know which step to take next..
I appreciate any help that is given, and im even willing to pay (some) bucks or maybe even (btc) for someone to walk me through what i need to do or what im doing wrong.
Thanks in Advance
Have you followed every single thing in the return to stock thread? Including updating your drivers, using the USB cable that came with your phone, running Odin as admin, etc?

No i havent tried that threads strategy, although i have done the same exact steps but only difference i see is that the firmware file name is:
M919UVUAMDL
While the one i was trying to use earlier was:
I9505XXUAMDM
This is where im getting very confused because i cant find a cut and dry way of knowing which firmware is the correct one..

You do have the T-Mobile SGS4, correct? Any files with I9505 in the name are for the international version, which is what you flashed (not the right file). All of ours will mention SGH-M919, M919, or jfltetmo in the file name. Pull the one in the thread I linked above and push that.
Crossing your fingers while doing so couldn't hurt...
Edit: I'd recommend using the "Download UVUAMDL Official TAR" in that thread as well, not the "stock tar (original)", since the MDL is official.

Thanks so much, i feel stupid for not realizing the difference between the two haha. Im d/l the firmware from the thread you referenced as we speak so i definitely will keep my fingers crossed and let you know how it turns out!
Thanks again. Im not sure how to give a thanks on here or credit for you help but your help is definitely appreciated.
error post
If you can get into download mode i would suggest flashing stock with that then rerooting that way the program downloads all of the nessacary stuff on its own.
