[Q] custom rom - Paranoid Android Q&A

Hi guyz
i am writing this in hope somebody can help me with straight forward instructions:
i have rooted my samsung galaxy note 2 n7100 with chainfire . now i want to install a custom Rom, what should i do next and which rom would you guyz recommend and how to install it. i have been reading about this but every time i read i get confused as to what is the next step after rooting and how do i install a custom rom? and btw i have also taken a full backup of my device using titanium backup.
pls help..:

first, after being rooted, you need to install custom recovery - either TWRP or CWM. here You have a guide on how to install TWRP onto Note 2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1938733
after You're done with installing TWRP, You have to put proper files onto Your SD Card/memory.
the files and steps required to get PA working on Your phone can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2331872
hope this helps!

Since you are in the Paranoid Android section of the forums, you will likely find most recommendations for Paranoid Android...

Use CF-root, clean and simple solution, and after it you can flash it via mobile odin.
No need to go via Cf root, directly flash chenglu's recovery it will give root + CWM
read first line on my signature 2nd post second method.

[Q] What is Unbricking? | Do I need it ?

First of all,
What is Unbricking ?
Second Question:
If I flash my SU640 to GingerBread 2.3.5 , Root it using whatever method. confirm root using
"adb shell"
"su"
Install CWM using "dd" or "cat" to mmcblk0p13
Copy any custom ROM to my sdcard,
boot into CWM
Can I flash these customs ROMs successfully ?
If not , why not...
If yes , then why does the guide tell me to flash AT&T version of Gingerbread to install CWM.
P.S i have not been able to boot into AT&T GB using ANY guide so far.
I have been able to use CWM and root access on Korean GB though.

i'm fairly new here but i'm pretty sure about the following:
if you booting into cwm you dont need to unbrick. unbrick is for if you've bricked your phone through a fail flash or corrupted d/l or w/e.
if your reading a unbricking guide thats why its telling you to flash to at&t because if your phone is upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich then it got bricked by secure bootloader that gets installed.
you should be able to flash a custom rom as long as you follow the proper procedure, find the procedure for installing the rom you are using and follow it.
note: ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL ROM IN CWM before flashing a custom rom. reasons for this are you could have problems with the rom and have to revert, among other things, also you may not like the new mod and want to go back for preference etc.
for my p930 i run cyanogenmod 10, it's jelly bean and it seems to be stable, after all it is marked as stable by the developer, here is a link for d/l and install instructions if you want to try it.
http://get.cm/?device=p930 this is where you can download CyanogenMod one of the most popular, there are others though if you are curious google them. I recommend a stable version for your first flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980505 <-- install guide, click on the show content button under the kind of rom you are installing... READ THE WARNINGS ON THIS PAGE.
*edit* dont forget to backup your contacts/apps that you want to be sure you have for your custom Rom as well. titanium backup is the generally recommended app for backing up apps and their data, there are tonnes of apps that do contact backups.
i was going through threads and i noticed that u have the SU version of the phone, make sure you get a rom that is compatible with SU640

The steps in all the threads and the videos are the same, the only difference is the recovery used. There seem to be different versions and types of recoveries circulating here so new comers to the grand community get confused
Either way, first thing you need to decide is which ROM you prefer and accordingly you can upgrade or not
unofficial CM10.1.3 by patwip is stable and only supports 4.1.2 firmware
GENNXT ROM is a stock based boosted ROM with lots of ported apps that runs on 4.2.2 firmware (there is also a 4.1.2 version of it but it's dated)
This is the main and original recovery thread with both 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 recoveries, use the tar files while rooting since they can used with Odin, the zip files is for when you are switching from a different custom recovery like philz or twrp or different variant of cwm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315529
After which, you can follow this step by step post to root your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46395577&postcount=19
This means this phone can't be rooted directly
I have to install a recovery for get it rooted..
BTW I DON'T WANT TO TEST ROMS ON MY DEVICE..(FOR NOW)..I JUST WANT TO GET ROOT ACCESS..
So which version is easy to root
4.1.2 or 4.2.2

Both are equally easy if done right. But you are gonna stick to firmware for now, I'd suggest go for 4.2.2 as it has certain improvements in looks and battery that you might enjoy

The method I'm referring to installs a recovery, then in steps 10 and 12 I've asked to flash two files. The first is two give the recovery certain permissions, so it doesn't revert to stock on each boot and can flash files, and the second is the commonly used root app, superSU 1.65 to give your apps root access
worked perfectly
thanks buddy
this one worked perfectly as per your instructions
now i have a rooted 4.2.2
thanks a lot again!!!
what to do?

[Q] Root access on all Multirom ROMs

Hi, I have a rooted nexus 7 and wanted to run multiple ROMs using Multirom and have and use root access on each of them. I cant figure out a way to do this and would like a little help. My Nexus 7 is running Android 4.4.4 and fully rooted on stock kernel and ROM at the moment. If anyone knows how to enable root on multiple ROMs please help me and let me know how. Thanks!

1. Download MultiROM Manager From The Play Store
2. Download the files required. Install Them. (This will install The TWRP recovery)
3. Download A Rom.
4. Reboot Into Recovery Mode->Advanced->MultiROM->Add New Rom
A Delailed Guide Is Available. Just Google "Multirom Nexus 7 XDA"

Thank you for your quick response, I already have MultiROM installed but want root access on the other ROMs. Whenever I boot the other ROMs now most Google applications crash instantly and I can't open them without them crashing again. When I open SuperSU it says that Android versions after 4.3 need to re-root to update binary. How would I update the binary and prevent Google Applications from crashing when opened?

Need more info:
Which ROM?
Which GAPPS?
How did you install them?
Don't Say Thanks.
Press The Thanks Button.
My Devices:
Nexus 7 2013 LTE "DEB"
Stock ROM 4.4.3
Stock Kernel
Build: KUT48L

Most custom Roms are already rooted. Crashes are not normal. Are you using a patched kernel? Are you choosing to share kernel? Like previous poster said, you need to give more info. You're missing something.
My ROM is just a stock ROM. I am using MultiROM and SuperSU to manage ROMs and root access. Here is a screenshot of my main ROM which is the same one as the secondary. Also, I provided screenshots of SuperSU recognizing MultiROM which I granted access to. I don't see a reason for not having root access on both but I am new to rooting and may have overlooked something. I installed the ROMs and rooted using Nexus Root Toolkit. Let me know if you need more information I would be happy to share.
Why not flash a pre rooted ROM for secondary? And ROM management should be handled in twrp. In twrp select advanced then multirom. You can flash zips for secondary rom there.
I used TWRP to install my secondary ROM. What pre-rooted ROM's would you recommend? I'm looking for some new ROMs to run and I don't know where to start.

I use PAC ROM for my secondary ROM. I keep rooted stock as my primary, but I plan to swap them soon once I get it set up right.
Cm does not work right in MultiROM for me. Paranoid Android, PAC, Slimroms, etc should be good.

Stock recovery

Hello! Does anyone have a stock recovery.img? I really need one for my device, i’m developing a custom rom but made a mistake when I maintananced my hard drive.
Stock Recovery Needed
Hi.. this devices seems don't get enough love from the devs. It's been almost 2 years now and still no custom rom for this device. Even stock Recovery is not present. Recently I have received an OTA update but since I'm on TWRP, the updates are not Installing, doesn't work with manual install from TWRP. I have the OTA zip saved from my device. I really hope someone who read this can share this device stock Recovery.
The only option I have as for now is try to edit the update script from inside the OTA zip and hopefully I can get it to flash without error.
