Metro S4 on T-mobile, root related concerns - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I just picked up this MetroPCS S4, it is unlocked, I get LTE using my tmobile sim and all that good stuff..
My question is, are ALL the T-Mobile roms compatible???
Another possible concern, even though it's working, it is still using the metro apn, and depending on who you ask, there is all different T-Mobile apns. Which one is the actualy one the S4 came with on T-Mobile?
Thanks in advance.

The T-Mobile ROMs will work. Just don't flash the T-Mobile modems.

Thanks! don't most of the roms come with the modem when you flash them?

No roms come with modems.. That would be a disaster.. Use the fast.t-mobile APN, although if it works with your current APN and don't have problems I think it'll be ok.. I think metroPCS and T-Mobile apns are backwards compatible, I've used T-Mobile APN on metroPCS before and never had problems

Cool, could I use a stock T-Mobile rom on my metro s4? Or is there like a stock prerooted flashable metro rom?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

You can just use the T-Mobile ones.
I don't think I have seen any for metro floating around yet.

I can even use the stock T-Mobile rom? What about if I Odin back to stock? Would a tmobile image mess it up?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

You won't be able to use the odin ones.
But the custom roms to download will all work fine.
Just don't flash a tmo modem on it.

So I can't use a stock T-Mobile rom? Not like Odin, but like a deodexed version or whatever?

So just curious u were able to flash a Verizon rom on your tmobile s3. Didn't have to change anything besides the apn?

That's what it appears he is saying.

Wouldn't be too surprising really. Aside from slightly different radios, aren't all the US variants (canadian too) virtually identical hardware-wise? It would stand to reason that they would carry the same partition layouts as well.
Though I wouldn't go flashing away without verification of that!

My thoughts at least, I flashed a few at&t roms with no issues besides build.prop stuff. I'm with you on not flashing things though lol.

Yes the baseband stayd the same .I was pretty excited been using it for a week.battery life is good screen is on top of the list then system.so far beside using hiapn for apn settings it has been really stable one or two reeboots that I can remember from restoring youtube a delete and market install fixed that.
How did you bypass the verizon network verification?or did it not say registering on the verizon network? I have flashed many Att, Sprint, and verizon roms, but most(if not all) of the verizon roms have a built in verifyer for their specific network.

[Q] Specific Radio for T-Mobile Users???

Is there one, if at all?
I know some rom's don't come with a radio and sometimes I try to tend to flash those types of rom's.
But I was just wondering... Right now I'm on Jedi XP12 for the i317.
Also my phone is AWS hack/enabled, so do I really need to worry about a radio?
Dont flash any radio accept for att note 2 radio. If im not mistaken it will brick it

Yeah I know that, I was just wondering if there was any modded radio or modem made for i317 users on T-Mobile.
Or what would be the best recommended radio/modem for i317 users on T-Mobile, if any at all?
I typically try to stick to rom's with no radios/modems, so my phone isn't uselessly searching and searching for AT&T Signals since it's on T-Mobile... If that makes any sense, plus just to save the battery a lil bit more, since I don't need them.

Hers the newest modem from TMO. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380
I loaded the latest b4, the newest release on my buddies GN2 and his signal improved drastically..

Okay so it's safe to flash other carriers modems and brickable unsafe to flash other carriers radios?

When ya did that was it cause the newest one wasnt out yet?
I'm on 4.1.2, so I wonder if I should use the 4.1.2 version, also the modem ya can just install through TWRP or do I need to use Odin? I'm thinking Odin instructions is for the factory image..
I'm curious.
Hrmm...
Okay tried that made sure make a nandroid backup including my existing modem, flashed the new modem and it'd recheck the app's then finish that and sit there stuck and frozen on sorting app's, had to restore from nandroid.

Could it because I'm running a rom that has a modem already installed on it, let alone a AT&T modem?
I'm using JDEVIL's rom right now.

Ok, you have a TMO GN2 right? And your saying the you have a AT&T modem on there? Because that will brick the phone. But if you have it up an running then your good to go. My buddy has the TMO version. So when I switched or his modem with the new one his speeds increased. So I'm saying if yours if a TMO GN2, then you'll b ok flashing a TMO modem!

Naw vice versa kinda, I have unlocked AT&T Note 2 (i317) on T-Mobile, I know better to cross flash rom's so to speak (Ya know flash a T889 rom onto a i317), but I was just wondering since there were so many AT&T Note 2 users on T-Mobile if there was any sort of a hacked and modified T-Mobile Radio/Modem for the Unlocked AT&T Note 2, to get the most out of our signal, connection and speed.
Also if it was needed at all since we have the AWS Mod.

I don't think there's one out there! But you can always keep searching tho. That's why we have Google for!! Especially if you have the AWS working already!
But I understand what ya mean, and saying. Just looking for something a lil better..

[Q] Tmobile Samsung S3 soon to be on Aiowireless, Which Roms?

Ok so I have just received my unlock code from Tmobile for my Samsung S3.
I have just ordered a micro sim from AioWireless since I have decided to give them a whirl and see if I would get better signal in my area (my signal has been blah for the last year).
So with that in mind, Do I still install roms from the this forum(s) and just change APNs or do I have to start using roms from the At&t S3 forum?
Just trying to figure out the best way to go, and most importantly the correct way.
Thanks in advance.
You can still flash ROMs meant for the t999 and change the APNs...you should also be able to flash AT&T Roms without an issue, just make sure the APNs are correct.

always flash for your device, not your carrier. just a good simple way to look at it i think

Yes unless you're buying a T mobile S3. Dont try flashing a tmo rom on your At &t s3 you'll probably brick your phone.

[Q] T-Mobile SGH-T999 on Straight Talk?

I searched but nothing could answer my questions. I have to send the phone to my brother that is on Straight Talk. It is a T-Mobile branded phone. I tried using that unlock code but it does not work. Currently the phone is running on AOKP aokp_d2tmo_kitkat_nightly_2014-03-27. Do I need to flash this to a AT&T ROM? And if so will the unlock code work then? And is there anything I should know about flashing a AT&T ROM over, like special drivers, etc?
You have to be on touchwiz for the unlock to work, so flash a T-Mobile touchwiz ROM and enter the unlock code.. You can flash whatever afterwards and still retain the unlock
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Thanks. Its never as easy as it seems. But this will be easy enough. After though do I need to flash an AT&T ROM?
Nope
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
If you want data and signal you'll need APN setups and the phone must be added to the straight talk network...
Just so you know.

Only ever flash stuff that is intended for your device, regardless of the carrier you use it on.

Thank you for that info. You saved me a possible over the phone headache. Glad there are folks like you around that know this stuff inside and out.
I noticed that you can not add an APN unless you have a SIM in the phone. Not a big deal.
