Ok so I have just received my unlock code from Tmobile for my Samsung S3.
I have just ordered a micro sim from AioWireless since I have decided to give them a whirl and see if I would get better signal in my area (my signal has been blah for the last year).
So with that in mind, Do I still install roms from the this forum(s) and just change APNs or do I have to start using roms from the At&t S3 forum?
Just trying to figure out the best way to go, and most importantly the correct way.
Thanks in advance.
You can still flash ROMs meant for the t999 and change the APNs...you should also be able to flash AT&T Roms without an issue, just make sure the APNs are correct.

always flash for your device, not your carrier. just a good simple way to look at it i think

Hey guys! I just got my Galaxy Note 2 today and i am already ready to mess with it.
I was looking around and saw some threads saying that T-Mobile and At&t versions of the Galaxy Note 2 have the same LTE band and frequencies. And that you could run a T-Mobile GN2 on At&t LTE...since T-mobile doesnt have it just yet.
I am currently on T-Mobile with a t-mobile SIM. I am curious to if I flash an ATT modem/radio to my T-Mobile GN2 would that give me the ATT lte capabilities?
I don't want to jump the gun and brick my phone the first day i got it lol.
No that doesnt work...no one has gotten it to work yet. But one member is getting an update from tmo for their lte and is gonna upload a backup so the devs can hopefully turn on lte on the phones so when tmo turns on there towers we will get lte

My wife has T-Mobile note 2 unlocked on att sim she gets 4g all day every day it supports 4g icon if that tells you anything.
It Doesn't say lte but says 4g and fast as he**
If you unlock the note 2 via hidden diale menu and throw in att sim, its 4g immediately no APN configuration needed

I will be using a T-Mobile SIM so that is out of the question. But thanks for the information
Have an AT&T i317 unlocked with a T-mobile data sim.
I've done the tweak to enable the 3G/4G bands, a la http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041
But now T-mobile added LTE in a few markets. I drove through one and suddenly got no data access. This is with "preferred network mode" set to LTE/WCDMA. If I switch to GSM/WCDMA, all is well (it sticks to the HSUPA and H+). So clearly it thinks it's on LTE but the phone can't access the T-mobile LTE.
I'm using Cyanogenmod 10.1, android 4.2.2, which also makes the model number show GT-N7105 instead of i317.
any tweaks to add the LTE? do i need to dump CM and use a diff ROM? do i need to go back to stock first to do any of this? (Right now, I can no longer dial *#7284#)
Thanks!
I am having a similar issue, I have a sgh-i317 with aws mod and the phone is not picking up t mobile lte even when placed next to a sgh-t889 that is getting it. Lte works with att sim but not working with tmobile sim. Any help would be great. I have tried many roms and modems and reflashing aws mod. Roms inculde jedimaster13/14 jedi x13/14 both att and tmobile versions and clean rom and stock 411 and stock 412
I figured it out see

Does the AT&T version have LTE? If it doesn't have the capability, but he modem is telling it to access it when it sees it, that might be why it dropped out completely. I'm mostly curious to see if AT&T LTE devices can use t-mobile's LTE network because I want to get an s4 active and I don't want to lose LTE by making that switch.
Try this for me, instead of that model number you have. Change it to the T-Mobile model#. Which is going to have to b done thru the build prop. Then reboot. Then go try and c if you pick up lte.
Because I just flashed a AT&T Rom on a T-Mobile GN2. And I pick up lte just fine with my AT&T SIM in there! And no AWS MOD what so ever. But the MODEM is still TMO, it'll always b TMO. Flash a att modem on a TMO GN2. Brick city.
Let me know what happens just curious!!
Edit: the Rom I flashed was SKY NOTE 9. No modem included!!!

I don't have any solution for the question but I do have a question of my own.
Why do I keep reading of people buying att devices for t mobile, why not just buy the t mobile version?

WELL, here's your answer.
Maybe they getting the device at a cheaper price. Which would make someone but it. Instead of spending a lot more to have have the carrier brand you need. FYI
Both the phones are exactly the same. Besides the model# and done bloat. Like I said above, if it's unlocked it'll work, with both carrier's. So why not have that option to switch... and one more thing being able to take the phone internationally, and pop a SIM inside and ya have service. No roaming !!!
Just my 2¢® 2 you're question...
Att now has prepaid lte plan almost same as tmobile only .5 gb less of data everything else the same at 60 dollars . Plus att has better coverage well at least in the areas I frequent .

When a t-mobile version is available, I do buy it, but with ATT exclusives, that's not an option. For instance, I want the s4 active for its water resistance. T-mobile will soon offer the xperia Z, but when you compare the features and perormance, the s4 active is better, so for the money i'm willing to spend on a smartphone, i'd rather have the s4 active.. the hardware is capable of t-mobile LTE, but it still has to be configured properly with firmware and software to use the radios correctly. Since radios are some of the hardest pieces of firmware to alter, it's worth doing this investigation / collaborating to find work-arounds.
I didn't get tmobile lte on my at&t note 2 until I flashed the new at&t radio. That's all that had to be done. I'm using Skynote9 too. I did the aws mod again so I could get h+ 4g speed enabled and now is a flawless tmobile phone. Let me know if it works for you.

Hi
So long story short, my Tmo GS3 got stolen at my work :/
So my mom gave me her ATT GS3 cus she was up for an upgrade,
i been reading its possible to get 4G on an ATT GS3 but so far no luck,
i know i have the right APN cus i copied the one from my Nex4 to my GS3, i set the network to manual and choose Tmo, but still all i get is Edge.
Does it have to do something with the way i unlocked the phone?
I been reading it has to be factory unlock and i unlocked mine by dialing *#197328640# and doing the required steps.
Can anyone help me with this?
Maybe you should try posting in the ATT S3 forums? I'm pretty sure that most people here have the TMO variant, while you are looking for tweaking of the ATT variant.

Don't flash a T-Mobile modem, it will brick. T-Mobile and AT&T use different frequencies for hspa+ in most places, and the AT&T version doesn't have the hardware to pick up the most used T-Mobile frequency I believe. So you're probably stuck with edge

You ARE stuck on edge.... I know it sucks. unless you are in a refarming area http://www.airportal.de/ , (major cities) your AT&T S3 1900/2100Mhz high speed data (4G) band will not work on T-Mobile's 1700/2100Mhz networks. I would sell it on e-bay or craigslist and got your T-mobile S3 again. or get the T-Mobile S4 after you sell your att S3 :cyclops:
Hi all,
Just had a quick question, as I am thinking about swapping carriers from AT&T (horrible customer service and technical support). I currently have the AT&T i747, but I am thinking about switching from AT&T to T-Mobile as they are now providing Unlimited Everything for $70 per month. My question is, if I unlock my i747 for T-Mobile, which section in XDA would I go for custom ROMS, Kernels, tools and utilities and such? Would I stay here since the hardware is AT&T or would I need to migrate to the T-Mobile forums? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
In order to enable high speed data on you i747, you'll need to enable AWS frequencies on your s3 and unlock it. You could continue to use d2att ROMs if the model # on your phone does not get changed by using the T-Mobile mod.
You can use either sections, but you need to stick with i747 modems and firmwares.. And if you want to take advantage of T-Mobile's WiFi calling then you need a T-Mobile ROM.. You may or may not have to do the AWS mod. if you live in a refarmed T-Mobile area, then you'll get 4g and 4g lte fine, if not, then you may only get lte with edge being a fall back if you don't do the mod.. I used an i747 with T-Mobile and luckily my area is refarmed so I had 4g and 4g lte with no mods needed

The modem should not affect the wi-fi performance but it will affect data performance.

Alot of people overlook the fact that T-Mobile uses which frequencies? Ones that are higher 1700+ mhz and someone like at&t uses 850+ the lower frequencies travel farther and penetrate walls and buildings. In my area if you get T-Mobile it os because you dont want to talk on the phone ever again...
Good luck

When I got my note 4 I switched from T-Mobile to sprint.. can we use T-Mobile Roms? Also are there one like 2 devs usually for sprint? There forum looks way different than ours.. so many options.. just wondering since im a new sprint user.
As far I know you cannot, must be Sprint. Device is different, network is different.
Haven't really read all the way through but apparently you can with kernel and radio issues
