Hi,
Now I know the TP2 is not a digicam ... But can anyone share any tips on how to get the best out of the TP2 for video recording.
Some thoughts I have include:
1) Fast SD card
2) 3rd party video software???
3) Improving fps from 12.5. I guess reducing resolution..??
However I appreciate the TP2 is a phone .... but with some jolly useful extras.
Thanks,
Sam
i havent try but maybe apps like coolcamera?
Hi guys
A quick one. When recording with the touch pro 2 is there a black border to the right side of the picture you are recording? that means the picture you are recording doesnt fill the screen. I just noticed this tonite and i dont think this has always been the case
since I posted my question over 30 people have read it but have just moved along without helping. This isnt a difficult question and all someone has to do is pick up their phone, launch the camera and click on video recording to see if the black border exists. This should not even take you a minute but people just read and move on. If I start a new thread asking my specific question, you,ll get some id1ots talking rubbish about using the search function. well I have and it doesnt return any results for my query. So is there any sensible person out there willing to check this out for me?

Hi Lombardo8,
Yes, there is black strip on the right side of the screen but ONLY when you save video. When you play this video it is over full screen.
Sorry for my "English".
Regards,
Nino
Thank you very much Nino. Have a nice day
12.5 fps? Probably for videos meant as video messages (eg vzw flix mms). But with Mp4 I had 15-20 fps even in 640x480. Best advice. use MP4 video. Stay away from H.264 because that is CPU heavy and results in blocky looking video. Black border on the right side? It only means you are not recording in widescreen mode and does not show up in playback. Select the widescreen option in advanced options and border is gone. Not sure if this will work on video, but it does on pics.
I'm not all too thrilled with CoolCamera. First, it's buggy as hell. Second, it's not free. And third, it doesn't work on all devices. I tried it on my Q9M about a year ago. Hasn't been updated since then. Since the Q9m has a crappy camera, I wanted more options. Unfortunately this program didn't help, as the options didn't work on that phone. The camera on my TP2, different story. Very advanced compared to the Q's crappy setup. Don't even want to try CoolCamera on this thinking it might be worse off than factory HtcCamera. There have to be better options then that program (CoolCam). The developer of that app has focused on his webcam app instead.
How did you get your camera to record at 640x480 my Tilt2 doesnt seem to have that option
I have been wondering if it is at all possible to mod the camera/camcorder to be able to let the screen be turned off without stopping the recording. I feel this could be a great addition as there are definitely times when being able to record with the screen off could be useful.
I did some searching, but mainly found threads regarding the silencing of the camera. If I am missing something, I do apologize.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
https://market.android.com/details?id=jp.co.haibis.vrecorder
Or you can search "spy camera" in the market. There is a few to choose from.
Thank you for the suggestions phatmanxxl, but I was mainly hoping it could be done for the stock camera app. Maybe even to have the screen time out like in other apps while continuing to record. It seems like it could definitely save battery life when recording long events.
Any other suggestions by chance in terms of modding the stock camera app?
Is it possible for this feature to be included into a ROM?
It would be useful if one could record with the stock camera in the background while you are using the GPS, for instance, or when the screen is turned off.
Can this be implemented?
Hello folks,
I tried to record decent 1080p video on my SGSII. Turned out that really gets a problem.
My device runs on Android 4.0.3 (IML74.XXLPQ) in combination with the Siyah kernel (3.0.32-Siyah-v3.2.5.2+ [email protected] #113). Secondrom is some CM9 ROM.
First, I just tried the stock Samsung camera app, but I can't work with the refocusing. Seems impossible to turn off the autofocus.
Besides that, the automatic white balance is crap. When I run through, wearing an orange shirt, it fu**s up the white balance and the picture gets a blue tint for a few seconds. Presets aren't the best, too.
I tried the ICS camera (while using CM9 secondrom). Same problems, but video stops recording after 16 minutes or so, and it doesn't proceed. I mean, what the f**k?
At this point, I'm looking for a camera app that:
- (optionally) has manual white balance (for me to set it using a white sheet of paper).
- can set the focus to fixed.
- records as long as I want it to, until the memory is full or I interrupt it. (When hitting 4GB, it will have to split, but it should automatically continue recording).
That was when I started looking for good camera apps. I tried some, and the best I could find until now was lgCamera. I used the free variant.
It works mostly like I want it to, though I have to set the white balance to some fixed setting. Focuses and fixes it. Everything seems to be okay.
Then it continuously stopped recording, after 4:17 minutes (@30Mbit/s), or after 1:32 minutes (@100Mbit/s). Looking at the files, it only uses 765 MB before stopping. Remember, it has to run as long as I don't stop it and there's memory left!
Of course, I used the free version, but the Play Store says:
Free version limitations:
-sometimes program shows BUYME dialog.
-program icon with red label FREE.
Click to collapse
I tried the Pro version, but it keeps stopping.
BUT not enough with stopping recording! lgCamera also freezes some times. Especially while recording at 100Mbit/s (usind only 65) when stopping, it just freezes to death, leaving the phone unusable and I have to reboot. Yup, I waited whole 15 minutes, before I rebooted. I also saw how it worked like it should. Very slow when stopped, but hey, no freezes.
At this point, the app also should:
- never freeze! (Can't be that hard to find for an ex-mainstream phone...)
In addition to all that what I mentioned above, the phone loses battery like hell, of course. So I also look for a ROM which is very stable (!) and also very battery-saving while not limiting power used by the video recording app.
Aaand... And this one is a huge bummer... Absolutely every app with which I recorded produces unbelievable crappy framerates!
I set it to 30fps and I get random sh*t between 25 and 32 fps. This is a big downside, because I really get problems working with it in Adobe Premiere/After Effects and also encoding it. Even if I encode it to a “real” framerate, which all editing programs understand, it's still async!
So after I collected hours and hours of material, I don't really want to encode (assuming it would work) every single video (of whose every single one has a different framerate!), because it would take ages (and, of course, the encoding will cost a little quality)!
At this point, it has to:
- have conform fps output (29.970 or 30.000) or at least another fps which stays the same in every video!
- run on a stable, battery-saving ROM.
I don't need any other apps besides the recording one, because I will edit the video on my computer.
If you have read all this, I hope you also help me out.
Which ROM should I use as a pure video recording ROM?
Which app is a stable one for use on the SGSII and has the features I mentioned above?
Do you have any tips for me, how to get the perfect video?
I really hope anyone will help me with this.
Thanks in advance!
Great post.
I will be recording a conference using my SGS2 but, its a long video and I wanted to recorded without crashing the app after I stop the record as it happen using the deffault camera with ICS 4.0.3
Nice post.
I'm looking for exactly what you had written especially a camera application that can automatically resume recording after it reach 4Gb file limit.
I tried several program such as IgCamera and others application but it won't work.
After googling around and spend about a few hours, I found some methods that might workaround this issue.
A. Month External_sd card to NTFS.
This method might workaround 4Gb limit problem for FAT file system and with this I think that Camera application may not automatically stop when recording video file reach their limit.
From camera behavior , It seem that camera application can record video at maximum size upon maximum size of current file system.
Then , I suggest that if event "Reach max file size" occurred , android system whose monitor events will send some signal and command to stop camera application.
So if I can month external_sd card with NTFS file system , I can workaround this issue.
Unfortunately , After I read several topic and spend a few hours to find out how to month NTFS on my android device.
I'm still no luck . I got "fuse device is missing try modprobe fuse as root" and I read somewhere on internet,
someone said that this message may telling me that my kernel won't support the NTFS month.
Now I'm going to move forward to another kernel that have capable of month NTFS as native and trying to month external_sd in NTFS format in a few day.
B. Modify Camera.apk
This method can workaround 4Gb limit problem for FAT file system If you could modify camera.apk.
by modifying method that will be called when recording file reach 4Gb file limit, adding a few line of code to start a new record automatically. I think that this might work.
Some of xda member (Potatoman and rafalense), had successfully modified bitrate and audio sampling rate of camera application
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104051)
They grab some camera application for their phone , decompile binary source into .class to locate a sample rate of video. After they found an integer that represent a sample rate of video, they made another decompile binary source into a file called ".smali" with a lot less understandable than a class file then edit it and recompile the program.
But, This method won't only just modify a sample rate of video, we needed to modify some part of method.
Since modify Camera application won't easy like sample rate, you needed to grab your camera application from your phone, decompile a binary source, unsign , sign , compile and etc and it is a long story. So I decided to move to another method.
C. Automatic touch simulate program by period.
This workaround work without modify any of your file format , kernel or anything.
If you could find some application to trig the record button after some period of time. So file size limit event won't occur anymore.
Only concern about this method is automatic touch simulate program may not survive long enough to trig the record button for all day.
I'm finding these kind of application and if anyone whose read this topic and know these kind of application , please let me know.
D. Compile your Camera application from Opensource
This is a last method I will ever choose. This is a really hard method but really easy to explain.
This method is about download sourcecode of your rom , edit camera application at the first place then complie it yourself. Since I din't complete reading a guide for compile a rom , I suggest that inorder to make modified camera application work , you may need to compile all of rom.
From my phone manufacturer(samsung), they had released some sourcecode of for Galaxy S2 ICS ROM
For anyone whose interest please find it in the link below.

Update
Hi , all
I just successfully found a workaround for video file size limit issue.
This workaround is based on approach C. Automatic touch simulate program by period and it also need a root access.
All credit goes to Yahor Paulavets from
http://softteco.blogspot.com/2011/03/android-low-level-shell-click-on-screen.html
To complete this workaround , I write some shell script that send a low-level script via Scripting Layer for Android (SL4A) to stop video recording then send the same command again to start new record before its size reach 4 Gb. After finished writing shell script, I use terminal editor (with root access) to run this script when I start recording video.
That sound easy, but in fact, you need to capture a "touch event" with have difference signature based on the device.
Yahor Paulavets write some great article which explain how to capture this signature in the link below
http://softteco.blogspot.com/2011/03/android-clickonscreenxy-shell-script.html

So I've been using this since released and it is an amazing rom, lovin it.
2 questions about the new camera though. I have seen a video where in split capture both front and rear record simultaneously, however it seems to only work capturing rear camera and then after capturing front camera. Is the M7 not capable of the simultaneous capture? Also does the M7 not support the Full Hd (1920x1080) resolution for videos? When attempting to record it looks very sharp and crisp but when playing the recording back i get blotched colors and a thick green and purple line on the right side of the video.

The m7 does not have native dual capture like the m8 does.
In regular camera before Eye experience, it is able to capture image from both, with a PictureInPicture looking window for front camera.
At one point, I attempted to try and enable dual capture for the m7, but did not have much luck and did not try for long.
It's possible that it could be enabled, but I have yet to do so.
Most of that would be done kernel side and I do believe it can be done.
But HTC never gave us that ability on the m7.
So yeah, to use dual capture/split view, it takes one and then the other.
As far as the video, yes it does HD.
I have yet to do a lot of video with the Eye camera, but I did not notice anything like that in my testing.
You may actually be one of the many who have an inferior sensor, as many have had to send theirs in for repair/replacement for similar issues.
It may just be that the newer camera stresses it more, making it more apparent.
I assume you are in fact on the latest firmware, so that shouldn't be a concern.
If others are having similar effects, then it could be a result of porting the libs and binaries for the new features from the m8.
But if it's just happening for you, or a select few, then I would lean towards the hardware failure that HTC is aware of.
Thanks for the info, after posting this i messed around with the settings for the video issue. This is what I came across, if I set video quality to 1920x1080 via settings and shoot video on auto i get what I described in my post. If I change from auto and shoot in hdr I do not get the blothchy color or lines but image seems to be zoomed in a little.
Now when i set video quality to 1280x720 via settings and shoot video on auto no image issues. If I change from auto to hdr still using 1280x720 in the settings i get a 1920x1080 video that looks like it should not zoomed in either.
Seems odd but got it working. So would this be a hardware issue like you suggested or issue with the app, seeing it was meant for the M8?
Thanks again for sharing your work !
Camera Issue
First off Santod, been using your ROMS for quite a while now and have greatly appreciated your hard work. I have just one problem with this new one, as I see someone has already stated, I too am having an issue with my camera during recording. It looks fine on the screen while recording, but after recording i go to look at the video, and it's almost as if the split picture is active, but only for the back camera. What I mean is that there appears to be a line cutting the screen into two sections (like the split picture does, but it's still the whole screen video from the back camera) and the colors are off, almost as if it has the negative filter on but not quite. I have not had any issue with the camera previous to installing this new ROM. There is also a green line that shows up on the top of the video, on all the videos i have taken. Im not entirely sure that it isn't a software issue as I haven't had any trouble on previous roms, but I'm sure you know a lot more about it than I do. I'm about to reflash the ROM and see if that doesn't maybe fix it, but I figured I would let you know of the only problem I have encountered so far. Thanks again for all your work!

I tried this also, and it had the exact same effect for me. I wish I would have seen this yesterday as I recorded a whole show last night with messed up video and didn't even know it lol. Thanks for this, I guess I will use this as a workaround for now.

Upon closer inspection when i played back the video on my computer, the video is actually two of the same videos playing next to each other, not a whole video cut in half by a line.
some bug, need fix
Before, i really Thanks You cuz best series Rom for M7 VWZ.
Yesterday, i up this Rom for my M7 VWZ, but have some bug ...
I'm from Vietnam and use GSM Sim, i'm up from NuSence 4.4.3 and have some bug....
1> Only Call success at first call, then need restart for other call.
2> have icon Sim Notsupport in status bar,
i was reup many times but it's still that, now, i;m go back NS 4.4.3
P/s: Can you port "Ufocus" on M8 for M7 VWZ ?
I don't have any reboot options on my power menu. The only options I see are "Power off" and "Airplane mode". I also can't find any options for changing this, either in the installer or in Settings. Is there a way to fix this without doing a full wipe?
If it makes any difference, I originally installed this ROM using a full wipe with Nova Launcher selected, then later re-installed without wipe to change the launcher to Blinkfeed (but the reboot option has never appeared with either launcher).
Issues with Chromecast
Hey Santod,
I have been trying to mirror my screen with the chromecast app. as it connects it then disconnects and never actually works. I had it working on your older Nusense Six 8.0. Just wondering if this is something you can work on or if this is something I will just have to wait until the next iteration of builds.
Thanks,
Kevin Clark

I can also confirm that screen casting my screen no longer works as it did in the previous NuSense. So far this only appears to be an issue with Mirroring. Casting from apps like Youtube and Netflix work fine for me.

My battery life with this rom has been insane. I'd be at thirty percent after ten hours on gpe and dirty unicorns and the dalvik version of nusense.
Thanks for making a great rom, looking forward to Chromecast screen mirroring.

Issues switching to ART
Hey Santod,
I haven't gotten any reply from you about the chromecast issue. I understand. You are a great developer. I did have a quick question about ART though. I tried to switch my Phone to ART, but it didn't actually switch over when I told it to reboot to switch to ART. What am I doing wrong?

Currently I have a broken arm, so my presence and ability to type are somewhat effected.
i dont use Chromecast so cant help too much there.
i know I saw info online about it and how you have to access it differently then what seemed obvious.
As for Art, Xposed is not Art compatible and will auto revert you to dalvik if enabled.
So you have to choose one or the other, which is why I left Xposed out of this build.
Hi guys, I recently bought a galaxy tab s 10.5 and I'm having issues with video playback in the native YouTube app. Basically every 5-10 seconds, I would get a micro stutter, as if the video is slightly jittery. It's definetely not buffering as the video has loaded well ahead already too.
I am using the samsung stock OS so 4.4.2 and I have installed all the latest official updates for both the OS and the Youtube app.
I have also tried a factory reset of the machine, clearing the cache and updates for the Youtube app and reinstalling. I've also tried forced GPU rendering and turning off hardware overlays in developer mode
Does this indicate there's an issue with my hardware ? It does not happen when i stream videos from my PC over wifi or any locally downloaded videos. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hmmm, never had this problem with mine when it was on stock. I usually had this problem when I underclocked my cpus and all that or when I am using to many appps.
The only thing I can suggest is use another app (viral popup https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Mata.YTplayer ) or take it back to be safe.

Thanks, yep the youtube videos would stutter even when i freshly restarted the tablet so nothing else really is running in the background. I have tried the viral popup app except it seems to play at a really low quality setting, ,ie 1080p is not available ?
Is there anything I can test to see if its a possible hardware issue ? I ran the Antutu benchmark and got 37k which seems in line for what's expect from this tablet. Does this help rule anything out ? Thanks.
Check processes, there's probably something in the background.

I dont think so. When you play games does it lag too? Ex real racing 3 etc? Because if it cant play youtube without the micro lag, that may affect other apps. I dont get any lag while I was on stock.
If any other apps lag while playing (not on loading screens) then it may be an issue. I never had any micro lag on mine so it may vary on how you see it. Of course we have custom roms that are way smoother (CM12) but I am unsure if your issue is hardware related or the way you see it. Hope this helps!
I got youtube stuttering too for months on my TabS ST800, I tried every tricks in dev options, nothing ever changed .
But one day i tried the CARDBOARD view in the YouTube app options and then return to normal 2D view.... motion became butter smooth up to 1440p60, for any video! If closing youtube app and restarting it, it is stuttering again, until opening again the cardboard view.
Here is a test video I used to validate stutter-free playback :

You, sir, are awesome!!! I had this problem for the last couple of months on my Tab Pro 10.1, tried everything to eliminate it. Going back to Stock or GraveD rom was slightly better but not really smooth either. I was beginning to lose my sanity switching back and forth between CM11, CM12.1 and stock-rom, trying different developer-options but was not completely satisfied in the end. This cardboard-step is a temporary fix i can definitely live with. But I'm surprised that not many people seem to be effected by this stuttering or they simply don't mind at all. Hope that google is going to fix this shortcoming in the near future but meanwhile...Thanks a ton mister :good:!

I was so happy too I spent a night watching again many videos I love ! I'm glad I could share that little joy !
To answer your question, it is a shame that people are suffering from the belief that "online" videos on computer, tablets or phone *must* somewhat stutter. Well ... even trans-galactic communications in Star Wars/Trek and other sci-fi movies are depicted with stutter and even analog (!) video sync and lines issues (in 2150!!). Stutter and other digital disorders have been imprinted in the modern culture because not much effort was given to understand (and implement) that we human are analog creatures requiring a natural constant flow of sound and light, not a "best effort" variable low frame sample rate due to "unavoidable" system interrupts between storage, cpu, gpu and screen. Remarkably, Apple hardware/software was always close to perfection due to their close collaboration with the computer graphics industry for tv and movies..
It is indeed so much enjoyable when colors, contrast, motion of a clean picture hit the brain which then do not have to interpolate, filter dynamically and overcome an unpleasant stressfull and therefore tiring "motion picture"
So far only Sony with its X1 graphical processor in TVs is IMO able to achieve a minimum of digital artefacts while interpolating and displaying moving pictures. HD was a attempt to increase resolution (but we lost many qualities that the oldest of us enjoyed with CRT tubes). UHD must bring "better pixels" back with constant higher frame rate, higher pixel resolution and higher color resolution and dynamic range.
I hope to say bye bye soon to "flicks" = flickering judderish stuttering color-ish moving pictures.
