I just got a G2. perm rooted it. and everytime upon booting up it has signal for 1 second then literally just disappears and never comes back. can't choose mobile network or anything because it can't search for it. tried doing *#*#infor#*#* and it says GSM ONLY and everytime i try to change it to WCDMA PREFERRED it keeps reverting back as soon as i exit. the only way i've been able to get signal back so far is to connect to wifi and enable wifi calling, then after disconnecting i'm able to get signal and i'm able to check the WCDMA PREFERRED option but awhile ago i was on wifi calling then left my house and it was disconnected but wasn't able to get signal again.
can anyone help me with what i should do because although i might be able to get it back through wifi calling, this will be very problematic whenever i'm not near my normal wifi locations...
thanks for the help
Eh... I would try reinstalling a stock rooted rom.

Is it factory unlocked? Have you used an unlock code? Have you tried the full radio s off, super Cid thing?

I wonder if your SIM card is faulty, needs cleaning, or is just a bit loose in the socket.

This is what it sounds most like to me. Also try to install another rom since you have it rooted now and see if that fixes the issue. Make sure you do a Nandroid backup first though!

I never put an unlock code and I'm still on tmobile. I called them and so far I haven't had trouble with signal as much but my number doesn't show up under status in about phone settings...it just says unknown. Its only on this phone though, my n1 shows my number with this sim.

No it wasn't. For the past couple of days since calling tmobile, its been significantly better but today I did randomly have that same problem of no connection, but mostly right now my problem is my g2 not being able to read my phone number in "status" under "about phone" settings but it does on my n1. When I called tmobile they tried sending my number ota 3 times with no luck...

During the first 30 days you can go to a TMO store and get a new phone, pretty much "no questions asked". I'd go ahead and do that if I was you. Oh, go to a corporate store though, not a mall kiosk.
While you're there, get a new SIM, too. All free of charge.
If you still have the same problem after that, I'd try an exorcist
Is this problem solved now ? I got the same problem but have no chance to return it back.
If there is the way to solve it, could you please inform and share
Thx

My signal problems seemed to be resolved, at least for the past week. It was resolved by calling tmobile customer support and they did some tests. However, my phone not recognizing my phone number under settings> about phone> status, is still a problem. Even tried getting a new sim and still didn't solve the problem. Did numerous OTAs with tmobile that didn't work. My number still shows up on caller id and stuff its just that menu thing. Sounds insignificant but some apps use that to determine your phone number. Also, when putting my sim back into my nexus one, it does show my number...

Nevermind, my other problem was just resolved after reading a post in the cm6.1.1 thread. Settings-call settings-additional settings-my phone number.

My phone is able to go online, send SMS, receive calls and does everything that I need it to except making calls out. Every time I tried to, it will go straight from "dialing" to "call ended". No ringtone, nothing.
Funny thing is if I put the sim card into another phone, it will do everything including making calls out. If I put another sim card into the Desire Z, it works fine, make calls and everything else.
I went and swap over to a new sim card and it still have the same problem.
This phone has been giving me grief since I bought it in late Dec 2010. When I first bought it (online), it worked one day and could not be turned back on after a day. Had to return it and had the mainboard replaced. It will p*ss me off badly if it turn out this time that it is another mainboard problem.
I usually use it in Australia using 3 and Optus without any problem.
I am currently in Malaysia & Singapore and this is happening with Maxis (Malaysia) and Singtel (Singapore) sim card.
Thanks for your opinion / suggestion / help.

What does it do when you tried to dial? Did you change sim cards recently?
Edit.. nvm I guess you changed sims a few times. Wish I could help. Not familiar with changing countries.

Eh? So which is it? It works with a new SIM or not?
The same behaviour was caused by using a wrong international numberformat on my girlfriends phone. Did you try typing the phone number manually instead of using a contacts app?
Thanks to everyone who tried to help.
I emailed HTC and they inform me that this could be a software problem.
So I had to hard reset the phone and it worked.
I guess I might have to do that whenever I change different sim from different country.
By hard reset, do you mean a battery pull? I have the same problem now.
Edit: Nevermind, it seems to be a carrier problem.

I think by hard reset, he means a factory data reset. Pulling the battery is a soft reset. No different from rebooting.

I had to do a factory reset. Meaning everything will be reset, all data and apps lost.
My phone have been acting strange for awhile now. Sometimes after I end a call the phone seams to lock itself så I can't recive or make calls or sms.
It does'nt happen all the time and it started when my phone was completly stock aslo.
I've tried diffrent roms without any change. Did a factory reset today and did'nt install anything and it still happend.
Got a tip to try another SIM card but it seams my kids have lost it somewhere so I can't do that now.
Also had it sent to service and they changed the motherboard on the phone, so it should'nt be hardware related either.
Any other tips perhaps?
No ideas what this can be?
I have to restart my phone like 15-20 times a day because of this problem

I cannot understand what you mean by "lock itself", is your phone getting frozen? does it disconnect from network? does it just simply stay connected and do nothing when you dial/sms?
I think this info can help people directing you in the right direction...
When I end the call the phone icon stays in the notificationbar for like 15 seconds and after that I can't call or send sms.
Only way to get it working again is to reboot the phone.
I can still check e-mails and use browser when it happens, so it's only calls and sms that's not working.
Tried to format my memorycard today to see if it helps.
For some reason it seams to be working better when I'm at home and use WiFi.
Could it be that when I'm talking on the phone and it tries to sync something it happens? But when WiFi is on it works anyway? But it's a workphone so I don't use it much at home so that could be it too
If you are not using 3g/HSPA data and only using WiFi, it is worth putting your phone into 2g network only and see if that helps the issue.
You can do that in wireless and network setting, mobile network and chose GSM only.
Guess I could try that to. Question is what to do if it work.
Seams pointless to have a smartphone without 3g.
Or is there something more then the motherboard that could be changed perhaps?

If switching to 2g works, either it is a Radio problem/Network compatibility problem or hardware. I would suggest contacting HTC again and see they have an option to change something else.
Tried this week with mobile internet turned of and the phone worked like a charm then.
Think it could be the sim card that causes that?
Gonna try contacting htc again and see if there is anything else that could cause it.
Have been trying different radios aswell without luck.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here, so be nice!
For starters, i have the European HTC One X. I've been having trouble rooting it, but I finally managed it! So, when it was rooted, I noticed that my phone didn't ask for my PIN code. I thought it had something to do with the SIM card not being correctly in place, but i checket it, and it was ok. I checked the Settings, and on Airplane mode, it says "turning off" without me turning it either on or off. I cant press anything there, and when i try to turn it off through holding down the power button, nothing is happening.
Its been a few hours, and I've tried to unroot, factory reset and other stuff. Tell me if you need more info, and I'll be thankful for all answers! I really need help here!
I think I have the same issue, could u check in setting about phone to see if your imei number and baseband is showing?.. mine shows as "unknown".. I have flashed multiple roms and run the ruu several times and I still have the same problem.

I tested, and it just says as headliner "IMEI", and lower down the option to say "ok". Nothing more, nothing less. What does it mean?

A Box should pop up,
Saying IMEI in the top grey box, whilst showing a long number in the middle white box.
If you have nothing in the middle, no long number - sorry to say, but it's 'bricked'
You won't get a working sim on a corrupt IMEI, and it seems you have deleted yours.
I assume your attempts to root as corrupted & broken your IMEI, I would never recommend one root click programs - always best to just use a custom Rom.

Well.. since its bricked.. If i use a fabric restore, would anybody be able to see that i had it rooted?
And btw, i thought if it was bricked, i couldn't do anything at all?
Because i can still connect to Wifi, and download apps and stuff

I believe your phone is bricked,
Unless you had a backup of your EFS folder which contains your IMEI, I don't think there is a way to restore it.
Because the IMEI is gone, no sim card will work, and you'll be limited to emergency calls only and wifi I think.
Maybe someone else can respond to verify this, but in my opinion - it doesn't look good for your phone (sorry to be the bearer of such bad news)
Hopefully someone will enter the thread to disagree with me, but that's just what I think.

Well, it is sad news indeed, but i really appreciate that you could give me the news. I have been googling like a maniac for a few days now, and noone could give me a clear answer. But do you think i will be able to return the phone if i turn it back to factory reset?
I've had this imei problem on my motorola defy (locked bootloader) and wasn't reading my sim after installing defy+ cm10 JB nightlies, but i recovered the phone to default using leaked radio flasher and it was fixed. Dunno if this could be fixed by an ruu flash but since its bricked what you got to lose ?
Hello again. I just found the receipt/bill (dunno in english) from when i bought the phone. There is a IMEI number there. Can i use it for something? For unbricking the phone, I mean.
Flashing the ruu doesn't fix the problem, I have done it many times and it still remains unknown. I believe the efs folder does not relate to HTC phones. It seems we are very much bricked! I tried sending it to HTC for warranty repair but because it has been unlocked they say the warranty is void..

Well f*ck. I bought insurance for it (when i bought it), and have reset to factory settings. Would anyone by ANY possibility be able to see that i messed with the software? And if they ask if i rooted it, or flashed ROMs, could i say "huh, what is that? How do i do it?"
I'm gonna try atleast. Update you later on the day
Yes I'm afraid.. they can tell the bootloader has been unlocked.. even if u re-lock it, it shows as re-locked....

Well, in that case.. I'll just deny it, and say i have no idea what a bootlocker, or loadbooter is..

It's best to:
Relock your bootloader
Flash the RUU that you need to get a fully stock device
And take it to the shop you bought it from, do not send it directly to HTC yourself - you want to always go through a middle man of possible.
.... And just hope.
Basically, as I first noticed - it looks like your rooting procedures have corrupted your IMEI leaving you with an unrecoverable device.
In the future, stay clear from one click root apps - best way to root has always been to flash a kernel or Rom that includes it.
Good luck and hope they ain't too fussy to give you a working device.

permanent airplane mode
I have a similar problem with my htc one x. yesterday I saw that it disconnected my SIM card so I rebooted my phome. After reboot it didnt find my SIM and stuck in permanent airplane mode (it shows like it turns off but it doesnt). I checked that my IMEI is unknown. Tried hard reset few times but it didnt work. My phone wasnt ROOTED or anything. Is there a way to deal with this problem without sending the phone to warranty?
Currently even if disconnected at all - it will force a reboot if it the SIM isn't detected? I have xposed framework installed but I can't find a module which would do what I am describing.
Is there a way to disable the phone from restarting after it recognizes that the sim card had been disconnected?
Like a way for it to ignore that the SIM was disconnected or anything to do with that warning/force reboot message.
BTW what is up with the captchas? seriously? Has someone spammed the forum a whole bunch cause I swear every time I needed to enter one it took me like twenty times before it would verify! Indeed the hardest captchas I've ever tried to read!
Thanks for any help!
That's not normal behavior at all. First I would try to disable xposed, could be a module doing this. If not, then reflash stock firmware or clean flash your current rom
My phone also randomly loses detection of the simcard which obviously has not been removed because I doubt you can get it out with the battery and cover in the way, but when I was trying different roms, (sorry I don't remember which one off the top of my head, I think it may have been a rom by The Sickness or possibly Jamison904) one of them didn't care that my phone didn't detect my simcard, it obviously didn't make/receive calls, texts, or data while in this state till I reset the phone and the simcard was detected but I just wanted to let you know it is indeed possible.

Normal behaviour will not reboot it, I've seen that problem with a friend's phone and it never forced a reboot. That's why I suggested to disable xposed, reflash stock firmware, reflash rom, or flash another like you said
I assumed it was stock firmware that forced reboot when the sim was no longer detected, NOT an xposed module. I was wondering if there was an xposed module which could modify that behavior. Jesus can I donate money to get rid of the recaptcha?

Nope it doesn't do that, so it's unlikely that such a module exists. This is the first time I am reading about this behavior to be honest. I just use tapatalk so no captcha

I totally figured it was... it did NOT seem like the kinda message xposed would force on you....
Unless you meant that it could xposed causing a hiccup in the loop, but that's still ambiguous.
I doubt it's xposed as my phone was resetting constantly, got a new SIM and I've seen it only do it once since I put it in a week+ ago. Might try that first?
Edit:
Man this ****ing captcha is stupid. For a coder forum why should I have to enter it again after I hit preview post?!?!! I'm trying to write better, seriously anyone know any robots who spam and preview their posts first? Now I'm just gonna submit and edit the stuff which doesn't require a captcha to be entered..... which is REALLY dumb that I can do that cause spammers could just spam a bunch of regular posts then edit them en masse.
I still don't think it's stock problem, but try this, guys
I just came across a thread I remember reading about a while back and thought I'd share what their solution was.
Solution is below:
"I discovered there was an issue with the setting in the OS (Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Network Mode) and the Service Mode settings (Phone dialer, *#2263#). *Service mode was initially set to Automatic and under the band preferences I had some other non standard settings. *I went thru and verified all the band settings were set to "all" and selected option 6 (LTE/WCDMA Mode) versus option 1 (Automatic). *I have not seen an error in over a week."

Hmph, that's crazy that is what caused the problem. I'll try it if it happens again and see if that works but changing the sim card seeems to have worked.
It was confusing because they mentioned all the button presses when you can get to the menu from what they said.

Yeah replacing sim should always be one of the first things to try in this situation. My friend has the same problem and turned out it was the sim card they were using was a cut one. This phone is not friendly with those
