[Q] ADB works, but no MTP/PTP functionality

So I got my Nexus 7 2013 to work perfectly on my laptop, which runs Windows 7 x64. However, on my desktop, which also runs Win7 x64, I only have the ADB working correctly for the N7. As I recall, sometimes there is a device under Device Manager called "D:/", which is non-descriptive, but seems like the closest thing to the N7. I have tried to update this mysterious device's drivers by pointing to Google's USB drivers and the OEM drivers, but neither was accepted. There are also no devices with missing drivers listed in Device Manager.
At this point, I am not sure how to proceed. Is there a precise way identify under what device name/category the N7 shows up in Device Manager? Please advise. :fingers-crossed:

I cant get Nexus 7 to show has folder when check in MTP mode. it will show as camera folder PTP. Any solutions to this problem? very frustrating!

Make sure USB Debugging is disabled, device is plugged in, and go to device manager in windows. Then right click on nexus 7 or android adb device, or any similar name. Then after uninstalling everything, unplug device and replug it in. Let windows get the drivers, and MTP should work!

Deleted everything related to google and nexus. Still installs as adb device but doesnt show as nexus 7 device! Wug fresh has this program in its tool kit

It might sound dumb, but I was literally just having this issue. But apparently certan roms or kernel disable MTP mode when they are installed. i reinstall every driver just now. My fix was as easy as going to Settings > Storage > Menu Button Top right > Enable MTP box.

Going to try a custom rom see if that works!

I have tried a number of the suggestions in this thread, including the deletion of all my google/adb/nexus (and samsung) drivers. None of these steps resolved my problem. However, at the end of the day, I can still use both ADB and MTP, just not at the same time. So it's not a big deal. I think I will mess around with Tasker and/or get a widget for turning ADB on/off.

Are you ale to get a nexus 7 device to show so you can access internal storage? I can only access camera storage.

Are you running stock?
If so, do you have USB debugging turned on?
If you have USB debugging turned on, the USB IDs change and it might not (depending on what you have previously installed) recognize the MTP device anymore.
If you turn off USB debugging, it should recognize MTP.
Now if you are on a custom ROM, there might be some issues on the ROM side causing the MTP problem. Try going back to stock and see if it works.
If you are on stock and have the case where MTP only works with USB debugging disabled, then you can try this driver inf I put together to address that.

[Q] Cannot connect computer

I got my Nexus 7 2013 16g wifi 2days ago. Once i got the device, i unlocked and rooted the system and everything seems ok.
When i flashed paranoid rom then cannot be recognized by computer(win7_x64). I installed adb driver and computer recognized it
but cannot see usb drive letter on computer.(usb debugging is on).
I tried restore original 4.3 rom and default fty setting, the problem is still there.
Can anyone help me??

Okay, so how I got bit to work on stock was too turn off USB Debugging, uninstall Android ADB Device from Device Manager (I'm on W8). Then plug in under MTP.
With PA, go to Settings > Storage > Menu (3 dots) > USB Connection > Check MTP. Was pretty easy actually. Can't remember if I had to turn USB DAY bigging off with PA though. Good luck!

NEXUS 7 2013 USB drive doesnt open on PC

Hello People
Some people couldn't open their Nexus 7 2013 drive on windows PC. I hope this helps
Open "settings" on nexus, Click on "storage", click on options (3 vertical dots on the top right corner), click on "USB computer connection" , Check allow MTP
Now try connecting to your PC.

I've tried this. I guess I'll need to delete all the drivers and try again. Never had such a difficult time getting my computer to recognize USB Mass Storage.
** Update **
If it doesn't work, open device manager. Delete Google Adb device (including driver) and then plug your Nexus back in with the MTP checked. It will install the driver. Everything works now.

I am sorry to hear that your problem still exists. But it worked for my friends and me after checking the MTP option under Settings/Storage/Options/USB PC Connection. We are all using windows 8 PC. And Google released 4.3 update yesterday. If you didn't update, try updating your Nexus 7 2013.

[Q] Android Bootloader Interface Cannot Start While Rooting

yeah did my search to no avail. followed all the steps and even a few extra once i ran into this problem and a few solutions even on xda and i cannot seem to get this to work. all the drivers installed correctly but when i restart into bootloader it says it ran into a problem while trying to install driver but its installed but says device cannot start. dont know what im doing wrong guys any help would be great. windows 64 bit nexus 7 v2 newest update 16gb wifi only.

Make sure USB debugging is enabled in developer options
Then do this: Setting's > Storage > Click the ellipsis top right of the screen the 3 dots) > Select Camera (PTP)
Now when you connect your phone to your laptop etc you should get an address id authentication prompt, tick the checkbox and click ok.
You may also need to install android sdk if you don't have correct drivers or whish to use cmd prompt adb

Cool debugging is enabled and SDK is installed but haven't tried the camera option. Will try after work and update. Forgot to add that adb work its only fastboot that isn't recognized.

Fastboot only works in bootloader. To get to bootloader, power off, then hold power and volume-down. Does that work?

That's just it. Bootloader works just fine but its not working on my PC. It recognizes it as android boot loader interface but says device cannot start so I can't do crap with fast boot Lol that's why I'm confused I've never had this issue

How do you know that drivers installed correctly? Was there a popup?

Either the drivers that got installed are the issue or you have cable/port issues.

I actually just gave up with me PC and switched to my wife's which I had done a ton of rooting before including my original nexus 7 and it went smooth without a hitch so Idk what the problem was

LG G4 MTP&PTP Problem - pc can't detect my G4

Ok, I have a really big problem that I've discovered recently and that is my G4 can't connect to my laptop with MTP or PTP. All it does is charge the phone.
Edit: My G4 h818p is rooted.
*uninstalling and reinstalling - LGUnitedMobileDriver, LGMobileSupportTool, LGBridge_Setup done nothing
*tried different cables - doesn't help me
*uninstalling MTP driver still not working, and adds to my problem because now my laptop wants me to install Media Format Feature Pack for Windows 7 N with Service Pack 1 and Windows 7 KN with Service Pack 1 (KB968211) but I don't have Windows 7 N or KN
*checked an update on my laptop for MTP drivers or Windows Media Player but they're not showing
There's one solution I want to try, installing new windows 7 but that will be a big hassle for me since I have tons of applications to download and install again and not sure if that will help. :crying:

The same thing for me.. I already did everything except installing a new os, still unrecognizable. This occured after flashing a rooted image.

Possible Fix
I had also faced that problem after i rooted my g4 H818n. it was not connecting with the PC in any mode.i have tried different laptops which had windows 8 to win 10.1 but nothing worked.also my Bluetooth was not turning on.only thing will fix this is for you to flash a compatible .kdz for your H818p using LG UP and select Refurbish . you can take a backup with lg backup software in mobile and later can restore everything. Than you can try rooting again. That's how i fixed it for my mobile. now everything is working fine again. Hope it helps.:fingers-crossed:

If you have bluestacks installed on your PC, kill anything Bluestacks related in Windows Task manager. This always causes problems for me

put it in download mode, turn off your mobile fully than push the volume up button and connect the cable to PC.it will take the mobile to download mode than open LG UP .it will detect your phone. at least it detected mine. try first, hope it solves your problem:fingers-crossed:

Problem solved:
Here's what I did to make my device recognizable.
1. Uninstall all LG Driver/s in your PC, if there's any.
2. Reboot.
3 Go to Start - Then Command Prompt
4. Enter command "shutdown /r /o /f /t 00"
5. Click the "OK" button
6. System will restart to a "Choose an option" screen
7. Then select "Troubleshoot" from "Choose an option" screen
8. Then select "Advanced options" from "Troubleshoot" screen
9. Then select "Windows Startup Settings" from "Advanced options" screen
10. Click "Restart" button
11. System will restart to "Advanced Boot Options" screen
12. Select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"
13. Restart & install drivers that came with the device (Accessible through MTP options)
Viola! Your device can now be read by your PC.
