[Q] Straight Talk (ATT sim) APN for HTC ONE M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyone who (like me) purchased a developer edition M8 with the intention of using it on Straight Talk?
The activation went very smooth and everything works great, all except for MMS. 3G, SMS and LTE all work.
I've searched everywhere for a definitive list of APN settings for straight talk and can't find a universal one that everyone says will work.
I've tried the common ones and none of them seem to work. Coincidentally, a lot of people said their MMS stopped working when they updated to Kit kat on other devices.
Does anyone have any kit kat device and straight talk with working MMS? Even better, on an HTC One M8?
If so, could someone post APN settings?

It depends on which carrier you're using with ST. Here are the APNs for T-Mobile and AT&T SIMs.

Those were the first APN settings I tried.
I'm using an AT&T sim for ST.

Apn name: Straight talk
apn: Tfdata
mmsc: http://mms-tf.net
proxy: Mms3.tracfone.com
port: 80
ignore all else

Did it work? Im just wondering because I have an m7 an after kitkak no more mms and group sms. There's is not fix yet the only thing is to downgrade to jelly bean or wait for the upgrade in May for the m7. And I been looking if the factory unlocked versions will work or not.

Here are my working settings for an AT&T sim on straight talk using my M8. These settings worked across all roms on the m8.

I used the above APN settings and still no mms for me
Mine's not a developer edition, it's just a regular AT&T model but I wouldn't think that would make a difference. I've read that ordering a new SIM card from ST has done the trick for some people so that is my next plan of action.

How long ago did you get your sim for your m8? Mine took 5 days after porting my number and getting a new nanosim from ST for mms to work.

I ported my number about 3 weeks ago using the nanosim in the byod kit. Haven't got around to ordering that new nanosim yet though.

I've heard both sides of the story where either they ordered a new SIM and mms worked right away or they waited until their cycle restarted and mms worked the day it restarted. I'd be willing to bet either one (or both) of those would bring mms to you if you had and kept the proper APN settings for a couple days.

While that may be a method of getting mms to work, I don't agree where you say you have to have a custom rom. I had mms working 5 days after I got the phone on the stock Rom.

Hey cheno1115,
I think I've been having a similar problem as you. Last night I ported my VZW number to a ST AT&T SIM, entered the APN settings given on the ST website, and everything works except receiving MMS (but I have no issues sending them, oddly enough). I get the message in the conversation that says one has come, but the download fails with the error notification simply saying "Generic Network Failure". Can you clarify how you resolved it? You mention a five-day delay and a new SIM... did it start working as soon as you put the new SIM in, or did it just randomly start working after five days? Basically I'm just wondering if it would help to get another SIM sent.
If it matters, I'm not rooted yet, but plan to this weekend, so I can also try oscar786's suggestion if I continue to have trouble.
Thanks!
EDIT: Disregard the above. A few minutes ago I successfully received one from a friend, then was able to send one to myself, which I hadn't been able to do previously. I'm not sure what fixed it, as I hadn't messed with the APN settings since the last time I tried. Maybe patience is all it takes?

Anyone else seen any resolution to this issue?
I have a new regular variant att version and I am experiencing the same issues with proper straight talk apn settings. I am attempting to avoid going s-off. I am still only day 2 on the phone so perhaps I need to wait a few days.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I got a new SIM last week and it is still not working. Cannot send or receive. I've been using the same APN settings shown on the first page of the thread. My cycle resets tonight so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that tomorrow I will have working MMS. I'll report back tomorrow.

Excellent let me know I'm about 5 days into these settings don't reset my cycle till next month. Let me know thanks.

Do you have something different than what was posted on the previous page?

I guess the next step is to root or wait till 4.3. I don't think there's any other solution.

Use these settings. If you can't do the APN type and authentication you will need to root. From what I understand att and other carriers slipped in a coding with kit Kat to block mms on phones not on carrier contract. I'm rooted running Viper, but when I was running factory I used these and no problems.

Yes the settings I posted worked (what appeared to be randomly) after 5 days. I posted my VZW number to an AT&T straight talk nano sim.
I tried many different APN settings the first and second day, none which worked. So on the third day I set the servings I posted above and left them and they began to work about 2 full days later.
But again, I've heard that if waiting 5 days doesn't work, mms begins to work after your next cycle starts.
I also never called into straight talk. Just tried all these things by myself.

MMS problems

So I just got the Galaxy Nexus about a week ago. I am on AT&T and everything works great expect MMS messages. Ive tried finding different solutions but every thread I find is from months ago - and well before JB came out. I have tried combinations of every different APN I can get my hands on but no luck. I can send pictures without any problems but I cannot receive them. All that pops up is a button that says "Download" and when I click it I get an error saying it cannot download.
I just spent 3 hours on the phone with AT&T customer service and even ended up getting a new sim card to see if that was the problem. I am out of ideas and hoping someone else can help.
I am currently using the default APN - Cingular 410. Any help is much appreciated!
And I didn't find a thread similar to this so I apologize in advance if there is one out there
Funny thing I'm having the same problem but I'm on tmobile. I spoke to a rep and all they could tell me was my phone was messed up and that I need to get a tmobile phone. I would really like to know what's causing this.

I found a few different sets of APNs online and tried them all out. I reset it to default since I have not gotten any luck with any others.
But I tried putting my SIM card in other phones and it is still having the same problem which is leading me to think its a problem on AT&T's side. I will give them a call tomorrow and report what I find out.

[Q] Galaxy S3 Deleting my APN settings ALL OF THEM!!!

I have a new Galaxy S3 (AT&T branded) phone... No matter what I do any extra APN settings I put in the APNs gets randomly deleted... I thought it was my SIM card but ANY SIM I try this happens, with Straight Talk, With Net10, and with AT&T Go Phone... if its not the default one randomly during the day it will get deleted... I have Googled this issue and found MANY people with the same exact issue but none have an answer except return the Phone... I would love to except I got the phone off a guy who just bought it from Radio Shack (We traded phones and cuz I deleted my old phone to sell it the texts are gone and I never put his number in my phone book... He was a very computer illiterate and thought that Net10 was cutting off his Data so it was happening with him too but he had not a clue... So returning it is out of the question... what do I try? I looked here and found a few old threads about this but never resolved (maybe I missed some?) This is making the phone next to unsusible its a 100% stock phone I am looking into finding a way to do a full restore Via Kies right now but I doubt that will work... Samsung is useless in this issue they say talk to Straight talk and Straight talk says talk to Samsung and AT&T wont even talk to me since I don't have a contract... please help...

If it's 100% stock, what do u mean when u say that you're going to do a full restore? Have u unlocked the phone yet? There are a few threads that tell u how to do this, and u have to be stock, so try that and see if it helps. Are u saving the new APN after u create it? I've had this happen a couple of times after flashing a new ROM, later on I would reboot, and my straight talk APN would be gone, but I just create another one and it always sticks after that... Is your phone updated to the newest 4.1.2?

Just a recap... I have Android 4.1.2, my phone is AT&T branded... The APN settings randomly delete themselves, all of them, it doesn't matter if I make 20 APNs and save them all when it happens all of them go away... I found something strange today... I lost my APN settings like normal early this morning (right before I posted this thread) and I was being lazy so I just put in the APN and the port I left out the MMS settings Cuz I didn't feel like looking them up plus I don't think I've gotten a picture message since 2002... Anyway the settings have not cleared yet and its been a whole day... Maybe its one of those long times were it won't reset for a day or two... Or maybe just maybe I am on to something... I have never seen the APN settings reset yet with just the data set up and nothing else.... I'll keep it like this and keep u all posted....

Hmmm, not really sure then. I just used my old sim that came with the 959g, trimmed it down, created a new APN with all the old settings and was good to go! Maybe try APN manager from the market? U can backup and restore your settings. At least u wouldn't have to enter them manually every time.

Yes it totaly random and other people have the same issue... the APNs still havent reset with the way I have it now maybe it has something to do with the MMS settings here are the new settings maybe someone can find a flaw in them...
FIELD SETTINGS
NAME straight talk
APN tfdata
PORT 80
MMSC http://mms-tf.net
MMS PROXY mms3.tracfone.com
MMS PORT 80
as of right now only putting in the TFdata line with the first port 80 seems to be keeping it... I dont use my MMS but I do have really long texts that get sent MMS sometimes and they would not get sent/receved so is there anyone who can look at this and tell me if Straight Talk ****ed something up here? the thing is Both Net10 AND Straight Talk have these same exact settings and the Go phone could have just been cuz I had the Straight talk ones in the list,..... I might be on to something here.... if I get this Ill post on all of those pages that had issues that have never been resolved maybe the MMSC or the MMS PROXY is giving errors cuz I do know that when it works with all of these settings on the data is a slower (3Mbps) to when its just the data settings (6Mbps plus) but that could have been a acquiescence (spelled right?) LOL can someone who knows about MMS and MMS proxys get back at me?
WTF?!?!?
THE APN Settings still have not reset with just the Data settings wrote in.. Im going to put the MMS settings in tonight and see how long it lasts till it resets... I hope this helps someone knowing you can have the DATA settings at lest is better then nothing... Im gonna experiment, if they delete again ill try the old proxy and MMS settings and see if they still work...

I got TWO major reasons why I haven't rooted yet, the first being I have heard from more then one site that returning the S3 has fixed the problem like the one they had was defective, if I have to return it I'd rather it be stock (I know I said I couldn't return it to the store but I know if I ***** at Samsung long enough they will give me the warranty since they have the record of when it was sold)
The other reason is I want to try and figure the problem out if it is a glitch, hardware issue, Android issue, whatever it may be and if I root and ROM it then that's just one more factor I have to throw in to the list of things that could be messing with my results... also some of the other posts Ive read they were on CM 10.1 so it could be a deeper issue.... I think maybe its the way the MMS is entered to the device maybe there is a trick... there is a hi-fen (I don't know how to spell it) in the settings and I have never seen one before in MMS settings...
Lastly I take my time and go though all the ROMs cuz I don't like to flash my phones over and over since I use my phone though out the day for many reasons so I need a working smartphone.... but I do have to do it soon since I do need my Tether... my SGSII is looking better all the time to bring as back up since its not getting much traffic on Craigslist....
Weird.....
So I have been going for DAYS without an issue.... the only thing that's different in my APN now is the NAME from when it was deleting itself... I used to name it Straight Talk but i been named it TF I wonder if having a space in the name messed it up? this is truly strange and if that's the issue then I will have to lay down and take a nap from the head trauma that will follow, finding out that naming the APN wrong can have these effects... Ill report back here ASAP on this....
almost a month and still working have not a clue what is going on...
I did remember seeing an update from AT&T but it didn't seem like any kind of firmware update I thought it was something to do with one of their apps but who knows... APNs are working fine now haven't had one delete on me in all this time... strangest thing I have ever seen... I bought a 6.5 inch Monster quad core phone from China and will be joining that thread now (if there is one)... I gotta sell this SIII and SII now LOL but thanks for all of you who tried to help

[Q] Help with Verizon SCH-I535 Phone to use on T-mobile

Hey everyone and thanks for taking the time to read this,
So the story goes as so: After doing some research couple months ago about the capability of the Verizon Galaxy S3 to work on T-mobile, i purchased it, and got it to successfully work on T-mobile(texts, calls, wi-fi). The problem is, i just recently upgraded to include a data plan, and i cannot access the internet, despite taking my phone to my cell phone dealer and contacting T-mobile.T-mobile even sent me a guide to do a mastery reset to factory in hopes to solve this problem, only to tell me afterwards that the phone version SCH-I535 is a "verizon locked-software" and i won't be able to set up an APN to work on the T-mobile network. This was all due to the fact that i was not able to set up a APN for T-mobile, and every time i tried to access it through setting, it brought me to a blank black page with the only option of "Reset to Default". After reading other forums and talking with some people, many have suggested i take this issue to XDA to find a solution.
So, here i am.....Does anyone know if it is possible for me to break/root/ or whatever it is called so i can successfully access the t-mobile network on my phone? Preferably an easier guide since i am sort of a newbie at this sort of stuff.
Thanks again for reading.
Before your Contract change, you were able to receive and make calls successfully with T-Mo Sim right ? Even now you can make calls too correct ? The reason I am asking this is to be able to check if you are really unlocked off of VZW. If you are not unlocked, then that would be the first step.
You are right, the APNs do drive Data Connection. If the stock firmware does not allow you to change APNs then you will have to root. Please post a screen of your Settings > About phone that shows your Rom Version, Baseband and Kernel.

Hey Perseus, thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. I bought the phone in the summer off someone who had verizon. I have always had T-mobile, and considering this phone is GSM, i decided to buy it because it would probably work for T-mobile. I had the phone unlocked, and i am currently using it to make calls, texts, and even use wi-fi with no problem. The only problem at this time is that i recently added a data plan which i cannot currently use. Here is a screen shot of what you have requested.
Thanks again
First try
Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Preferred Network Type.See what it is set to. Change it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA if needed. See the other option System Select as well.
Also separately try the following.
Hit ##DATA# in the Dialer. In the subsequent Menu choose EDIT > OTHERS > LTE APN
If all fails, please Root the phone and then try. The way you go about is
1. Flash a Custom Recovery via Odin. Make sure the version of Custom recovery is for your model D2VZW not D2TMO.
2. Flash a SuperSU zip file via Recovery and then hit fix permissions in the recovery.
Try the APN Settings after that. IF you can actually access them, then set them according to this link.
If all the above fails, I'd suggest a custom Rom for d2VZW.
You will never get 4g trust me I had one... you will just get the E

Ok, so i tried to changed it to LTE and i got no service at all, so i switched it back to Global. I also tried the dialer thing several times, and got the " connection problem or invalid MMI code"
So i guess i am going to have to root the phone? Does anyone know a good video tutorial or written tutorial on how to safely do this? Also, what exactly is rooting?

You have to enable the mmi codes to use them. Anyway as stated above your reply you will never get 3g or 4g just edge (seen it personally) which is pretty darn slow.. Not worth it if you ask me and be paying for data.. If you still want to root it and keep trying to add sons check the Verizon forums.. They could probably help you a lot more than on this side of the forums

Guys, he is not getting ANY data signal at all. His problem isn't getting the specific icon but being not able to change APNs.
@HackThisThing, you are better off following up on Verizon Device forum. That forum does have a video tutorial for Rooting. Here's forum link.
I don't think you will be able to change APNs without rooting. I checked with a buddy of mine who has the same device as you.
Here's a good answer to What is Rooting ?
Even if you CAN fix it, why bother if you can only get 2G? I'd sell it or trade it for a phone that's more compatible with T-Mobile 's network instead of paying for data and only getting dial-up speeds. I get that solving problems is fun, but OP do you want to live with only 2G?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
I don't agree with that assessment. Just like the T999L phone, this device will work on LTE Bands just fine. OP just needs to wait for LTE to be rolled out in their area. There's a coverage map and roll out schedule on T-Mo website and the T-Mo News blog.
It's worth a look, but could still leave them with patchy coverage. If it's going to be a while, why wait when it's not hard to just trade the phone? I guess I don't see a reason why hold out on getting a Verizon phone to work when you could just get one that works now with little to no monetary loss. It's just a Verizon S3, not really something worth "waiting" for when they could get the same thing but more functional on their network of choice.
They made an honest mistake and waiting might give them "good enough" service - but other than that they're stuck with dial up speed only and risk bricking a phone they could just trade or sell now.
Maybe I'm just impatient and risk averse.

OP has already purchased this VZW version.

Since 2 days now, my 4G/LTE/EDGE symbols have been constantly appearing and dissapearing. I am in the NF1 firmware and rooted. It was working great but now it is like goin on/off like every 5 seconds. I think my data got blocked by T-Mobile but I'm really not sure.
You can see the video I recorded about the issue here

Anyone had this happened to them before?

That's not normal, Never ran nf1 myself went straight to nf4. NF4 is basically a fix for issues that occurred with NF1, maybe update

It was working fine for one week, but I think they blocked my access to it. I'm trying to communicate and check what is the problem.
Phone calls and messages works great however, is only the data that is not working.

You think you went over your allotted data limit? If that was so then the symbol would switch to 4G instead of 4Glte, Maybe you are right that you've passed your limit and maybe you should check settings/more networks/mobile networks and ensure that network mode is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM and check that mobile data is enabled.........and my last guess could be that maybe your sim is loose or failing?

I think it is a bug in the system. I used 2056.47GB according to the My T-Mobile website (tethering non stop), but on the use tab it tells me I used 2048GB of Unlimited. Maybe that stopped my data. I guess on the 17th it will reset and I'll have internet again since calls and messages works correctly. Also, there's no alert on my account and neither a message sent, so my guess is their system just limit the data to 2048GB somehow.
2 terabyte wow. I use net10 on att towers and have massive data connection issues as of the past 2 days and i just put a new monthly on it.
note 3 4.4.2 stock rooted N900T

I called them and they said the data was not blocked and that it was not possible to block because it is unlimited, which I think is clearly a system bug or a hard or soft limit of 2048GB
I find it really hard to believe that you managed to use 2TB of data, even if you're tethering. I'm not saying you're lieing, but I think there's something wrong on the backend here that's not reporting appropriately.
There's obviously some kind of issue occuring when you authenticate on the T-Mobile network. My suggestion is either ODIN the phone back to stock and try again, or go into a Store and see if they can tell you anything about your account that's throwing flags at them.
I hope they did block you.

Yeah I think they did that throttling thing because of me
Well, I'm hoping the 17th I get the internet again, of course more carefully. I was just looking at the "how much unlimited data means" limit and I seem to have found it.
If not, the reps said it could be the SIM Card and I have to go to the store then.

How can you even call TMO with a straight face? 2 TB is abusing it, dude.
Can you try a few things?
1) Turn the phone off then back on see how long you have data for.
2) Force the data band of the phone and see how long data works for.
3) Put your SIM into a different device and see how long you have data for.
And of course if you can try all these things on a few different towers just to be sure.
Also can you try cooking an egg on your phone? That thing must be running pretty HOT.

All of that was what the reps said me to do, but data doesn't work.
Here is the bug I suspect, which makes me believe data is turned off at 2048GB:
In this image, the data reported 2048GB, but it let me use a little more. It just stayed at 2048GB

Here you can see that it is reporting what I really used before data was turned off:
I know I may have abused but still they didn't really said nothing about it, and they said blocking can't be done on the phone call. They said to visit the store for a phone/SIM checkup.
You can try to reset your NV values and modem. Below is a link to the thread with instructions.

I have just confirmed myself that this is indeed a system limitation by T-Mobile. Today my cycle reset and I got my data back.
So, in conclusion, T-Mobile unlimited plan indeed have the 2048GB limit.
I hope people aren't complaining about a 2 terabytes limit. I felt like I was abusing when going through 10 gigs a month.

MMS APN Help

Got my Zenfone 2 yesterday, imported from Taiwan. Let me begin to say I love this phone. =) I got the 4G working via T-Mobile but I have ran into some hiccups. I can't receive MMS (Pictures). I messed around with the settings but nothing. I went from being able to send the message and it being stuck in a loop of repetitive sending to can't send message due to network error. I'll post both of the APNS that I was using so you guys can see what I am doing wrong.

Did you ever get your MMS to work? I'm ready to pull the trigger and get one, but I hate the MMS issue that some phones have.
MMS working fine on AT&T with Taiwan version.
Follow the instructions your carrier provides for your settings. It's really that simple. There aren't any tricks to it in most cases.
I'm using this.
I finally got it to work, here are the screen shots.
Followed the screen shots and the on!y things I saw different t is the IPv4 adding IPv6. But still does not work
I found that disabling auto retrieve in hangouts settings basically fixed my MMS problems on tmo USA.
