So i recently got hold of a new One M8, and i love the phone, speakers are awesome and headphone quality is super but the minimum volume is extremely loud, any way to decrease only headphone volume, preferably not an equalizing app, is there a system file i can edit?, thanks.

Anyone else noticing hiss through the headphone jack when sound is played?
Steps to reproduce:
Use earphones
Get sound to play shortly or at low volume (a notification works fine)
I'm hearing a good amount of hiss through earphones (loudness depends on headphone sensitivity: much less audible on my stock ipod earphones, much more noticeable on my Shure IEMs)

nope...sitting here as I write this listening to music using Samsung Focus S buds. NO hiss at high or low volume.
I tried a koss headset this morning and my phone rebooted.....but no hiss.
I have also noticed the hiss whenever watching movies or listening to music. Depending on volume, it can be pretty strong sometimes.

I'd reboot myself too, if you plugged Koss headphones into me...
Cuz you hava a good ear piece, lmao
Yup, my senn IE8s and Ety ER4p are both producing noticeable hiss at low volumes, sounds like the gain is way up and the line level is low.
There were some amazing KOSS headsets back in the day, especially known for their electrostats. I'd pick a KOSS ESP950 over a dr. dre beats, BOSE, HK, or whatever else is popular out there these days.
+1 on the Koss. I used to use Radio Shack Optimus - those were all Koss - and some of the best sound headphones under $50 I have ever owned.
I have Sennheiser CX300-II's and they are quiet compared to other headsets and bass response is sub-par (compared to what they sounded like in my iphone). My Klipsh Image One's sound awesome, but the mic/volume don't work (and the AHJ detects and then disables the phone's mics, so lots of features 'break' with it, trying a Fiio LU1 adapter in a few days). My rocket fish cheapos work the best, and sound the most 'normal' with good bass response, general sound - however they hiss - which is less noticeable at higher volume!
The volume levels are abnormally low using headphones. When playing through the speaker, the volume as expected though.
Is there a way to increase max volume from the phone?
I've been thinking about buying a bluetooth receiver to a stereo, but do I have same issue, even with the volume?

I'm having the same issue. On my Philips headphones the volume is very low. The same headphones give superb sound when used with my iPad. Don't know who to fix this issue.
Just purchased Note-2 last week and was upset to know this.
MP3 music volume is low compared to galaxy S-2(my previous mobile) even with different headphones.
I am surprised to know, note-2 is expensive but how come inferior with music.
Annoying thing is if I go to custom equalizer and increase 14k or any slider, the effect is there but volume decrease further. The higher I move slider, the further music volume decrease.
What is this? Help is appreciated, any way to boost its volume. (without rooting)
Thanks,

Definetly volume is much higher than S2. it is in par with S1. maybe your loud speaker is faulty.

I am concerned mainly with headphone volume, that is low.
Pl. share if music sound decreases in your Note-2 when you move equalizer sliders up?

Get Noozxoide Eizo app from Play Store. Should help boost the volume.

Any way to make the headphone output 10-20% louder?
It's a good output. I find the quality of the sound better than my previous phone(s) but I do want it a tad louder.
I feel like LG is playing the 'Nanny State' with its pop-up warning concerning hearing damage from long-term loud usage.
I was able to make it louder by downloading Equalizer FX from the play store and then turning the loudness setting all the way up. Also if you get high quality headphones with low ohm rating it'll be significantly louder as well.
Thanks. I am using IM70 IEMs by Audio Technica. Pretty decent quality. They were louder on my old Galaxy Nexus.
As I await my G4 in the mail today from FedEx, I am sad to read this. The Phone Arena review rated the output power of the headphone jack pretty high (higher than most Android phones, sans the M8, M9, etc.). I was hoping this would have higher volume than my S6. Since I got the Verizon variant, I'm sure Viper4Android is a ways off, but you may want to start there. Since you have the T-Mobile version, maybe there is root and then you can install the V4A audio mod. I hear it does wonders for headphone volume.

I am running official Resurrection remix oreo on my nexus 5x, and to improve the audio especially the bass, I use audiofx. I want to bass boost the phone speakers, but audiofx says "Effect not available for Speaker mode." It does allow me to increase the bass on external speakers or headphones though. One day, I went through my ringtones while my earphones were plugged in, and I noticed a great increase in sound quality in the internal phone speakers, but when i unplugged my earphones, the quality went back to normal. This could be because audiofx thinks its increasing the quality on the earphones but its actually also playing through the phone speakers. Is there a way I can use audiofx to drastically improve bass on the internal phone speakers without having to keep my ear phones plugged in? Audiofx does not allow me to do that because it's the phones internal speakers, and i have tried different equalizers and they all had no effect.
