The New Desire 816w is quite good a device and I have successfully flashed CWM Recovery & SuperSU. It looks SuperSU is running well and root access have been achieved. I also "successfully" deleted apps shipped with the device and installed google apps by coping files into /system/app and /system/pri-app. But after reboot all apps deleted were reinstated while newly added google apps disappeared. The interesting thing is Superuser.apk is lying in /system/app which I think it's due to flash instalation through recovery. I searched online and found wp_mod.ko might be the problem but I can't find it in /system/lib/modules in my device.
Please help and advise....
Write protection is enabled on all HTC devices by default.
To disable it you have to flash wp_mod.ko module by flar2 that defeats it or flash a custom kernel.
As there isn't available wp_mod for this device nor custom kernels you might ask @flar2 to look into it and help you or wait for kernel source code.

Flar released a write protection module in original development, but I haven't tried it yet.
I flashed PA's full 4.4.2 gapps over the stock ROM in recovery and it's all good. Have the Play store and services and everything works. Any changes you make in recovery will stick.
Of course, make a backup before attempting this.

Hello world !!!
I've created a project of a new kind : The RecoverX Project
The goal of this project is to gather ALL the recoveries for ALL android devices in ONE tool which install them on the devices. RecoverX is coded in C++ thanks to QtSDK and allow to install a recovery on more than 150 different devices !!!
You just have to select your device and the recovery, click "Install" and RecoverX does the rest !!! It's that simple
This program require different prerequesties, depending of your device
- Wether you need an unlocked bootloader to flash the recovery partition (and fastboot drivers on your PC)
- Wether you need root access and usb debugging activated (if busybox is not installed, RecoverX will ask you the permission to install it).
This program have been published on XDA News : Here
Here is the list of supported devices :
Finally, a small preview
Awesome !!! Where is the download link ???
Here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227
Wow! Nice! Its original CWM or a based CWM recovery?
It's a based CWM Recovery !!! But still have some minor bugs, that's why it's written "Beta".
How can I acces CWM after installation?
Just tap the screen several time when the SE logo appear.

Go to "settings" > "log" and click on Log. Then, plug your device and run the log and send me a PM with the log.txt file.

Nevermind. I had root but lost it again when reflashing ICS. I'm gonna sell this phone. It is the worst phone I ever bought for hacking such a dissapointment. Thanks for your tool anyways.

Don't use tools, use the proper hacking.
And if you were as good as hacker as you claim you are,
you'd know that's not true what you said. But it's ok.
Sell it. I hope the next owner will appreicate your loss as his/her gain.
Hey if we install CWM as this method just install in our system file. Some ROM cannot accept install with CWM like this . because it will format system partition . we have to use kernel integrated CWM
This tool is just for stock rom for people who can't or who doesn't want to unloc their bootloader.
working on XperiaS lock BL MIUI 2.7.20
Yes, it work on Xperia S but only on stock rom and not on stock rom
EDIT : stock rom
but MIUI is a custom rom
Sorry, I'm tired, the tool is only compatible with stock rom
MIUI is a custom rom but your recovery working on it, testet by me and it is workin great. Offcourse im using stock kernel.
Ok, thanks a lot !!! I prefered to said no because I was not sure about this...

And which GApps do you suggest?
This one. Maybe "pulser_g2" can include it in his OP.
Have been testing for a few minutes, have not found anything that does not work... Antutu comparison with 4.2.2 shows that CPU peformance has suffered (CM team performed A15 optimizations at some point if I am correct, which appear to be missing in this build) Nevertheless, 3D graphics performance shows a huge improvement (check screenshots).
Strange is that both the running apps and about tablet menu state that the device only has 1006MB RAM

No, I will not include or recommend any Gapps package, as you should be able to personally verify where the apps came from.
I have no idea where those came from, so I am not going to recommend one If you trust where it came from, that's fine, but I have no idea who uploaded it, if the upload source is secure etc...
Android is bliss without gapps actually.
Was just a suggestion for people who dont know how to search.
I am able to search. But if you did, you would have noticed, that there are already a lot of gapps (signed) for Android 4.3
Gallery/Camera seems not to be working (is not even shown in the app drawer) - could anyone verify?

Could imagine it's this kernel config (which has changed in recent aosp kerne):
Code:

But thats only a guess. I'm just trying to build myself to verify.

Flashed the zip mentioned in Post 13 but still no root
No problems with root. Anything is running fine.
I haven't installed it yet but I looked in the rom and the su binary is there, it should be rooted out the box. I lost root the other day for no reason but flashing it and updating it fixed it for me. It's all I can suggest.

I'll check that - I was aware of this issue, but I forgot to resolve it before posting.
I don't have root either, I tried installing Supersu from Playstore and it couldn't update the binary.
I tried flashing the link I mentioned and that didn't help either.
Is there a way to get root access for version 13 right now or should I wait?

Go into Settings - About Phone .. And tap build number about 10 times real fast to enable Developer Options. Go into Dev options and enable Root for apps &/or ADB. Your other option is to flash a SuperSU.zip from recovery, but that's not needed with the built-in Root already there

bootloop... now what
Wooow.. Might need to try the newest SuperSU zip instead. Is your ROM bad? I'm thinking your ROM may not be on par somewhere, but make sure these Root flashes are new ROM installs as you could possibly have leftover files somewhere causing a conflict.
Edit: Oh! If you have SuperSU already installed, Root management is accessed in Settings - SuperSU or SuperSU.apk

Look in the zip and see what files it replaces (in this case all the files in system/fonts)
Then take these files from the rom zip you are using or stock firmware (you will need to extract the stock firmware first) and replace the files in the zip with the ones from the rom zip and flash it
You might also need to see what else the updater script does
Of course making a twrp backup before trying anything would be alot simpler if you needed to revert
Thank you.

No, cause you need Root access and that's not possible without unlocked bootloader.

Yeah those can be removed too.
but they are in a different folder i.e oem/apps & oem/priv-apps
i tried several ways but didn't find a way to incorporate it in the script. for now the best way to delete them is through root explorer.
again, i dont have any idea about coding. i just edited the zip file to be compatible with our device.
if someone could find a way to do it then i can surely add that too
Great contribution

Yes it can be
Not working
Hi, when I flash the script in TWRP and reboot nothing happens. All the apps are still present. Please Help.
Thank You
The zip package works yes, I used it today on my Moto G4 with stock rom, it worked perfectly. Something that I do not recommend removing is Republic Wireless, in case you remove it will give you an error in the applications option in the settings, the maximum you should do is to freeze it using the titanium backup or some other program that does the same.
Does it work with Current Oreo Soak Test? (OPJ28.108)

It should still work with 8.1 stock rom, because package names should still be the same. Better backup your system with TWRP before you flash the debloater, just to be safe.
