hello all!
first of all i'd like to appologize for not posting in development, i posted les them 10 times.
well to get to the point,
i'm a noob in android programming ( have a basic python, html, css and verry basis PHP background though)
i'd like to make my own dashclock extention based on (star)date (not standerd layout) becouse the existing app uses a faulty date layout but that doesn't really matter here
i can get as far as implentating the dates (at least I hope).
can someone provide me with the rest of the coding and tell me where I should write it ?
Regards,
Luke
You can use APKtool to look at how another apk file is coded. The tool can be downloaded from slimroms.net

Hi all, i don't know if it has been asked already but it would be great to have a light black&white forum "Development and Hacking" easy to load and browse from our PPCs/SPs exactly like the iPhone's app called Installer... ok, without all the "sources/install/uninstall" thing, only app name (with very short description like the one we can see if we mouseover a topic's name) and, clicking on it, the author description, link to the Dev&Hack forum article, link to the download, little screenshot or animated gif. And a tiny search engine (no Google)
I know there are websites made like that already like freewareppc or softonic which use RSS, but i was thinking about a more Installer-like webApp.
http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=j7rfU4r3Y-0
.. but there's probably something like that already, so i ask you guys and gals where can i find such a service and if you think it would be nice or totally useless
TBH this would take ages to compile and program and with every different model of HTC h/set out there I dont think anyone would have the resources or time to do this. I do really like the idea though kudos for that
Why not look at the App To Date over at MoDaCo?
livefastdiefun87, i don't think it should be that difficult to filter the threads (for example a "[release]" string in the thread title) as links to their first posts (the ones with descriptions, screenshots and downloads) to the user (maybe it's enough for the releaser to keep an eye on the format). For example A_C's releases already have the "required" things (first post: description and download, second post: faqs).
With a little help from any developer i think that even with pocket ie (although a client would be better) we can retrieve every release easier. Then, in order to explore the apps, the user can jump to the ordinary forum.
Maybe i'm making it too simple, but it wont be bad anyway. I'm thinking about a mobile-only road, no ads, no banners, black and white with hypertext
Hi all,
I created this thread to collect informations, suggestions and links for who want to start learning developing android applications, whitout being an expert developer.
I like programming (vb6, vb.net ) but I don't know anything about android and linux, and just a little about java... Now I bought an Hero and I met android world... I downladed Eclipse IDE, Android SDK and I starded with dev guide on SDK... I just take a look to helloandorid application... it works! and now? In the xml layout seems easy to add View like buttons or text... but how can I handle to the user actions like the button click? in vb is simple to manage the buttonpressed event...!
If someone knows some simple guides about java, eclipse and android, please let links on this thread!
Thank you!
This one's awesome for learning how to create widgets:
http://nm-blog.sanid.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/android_howto-hellowidget.pdf
here are some other resources you could easily find by using google search:
http://www.helloandroid.com/tutorials
http://nexsoftware.net/wp/2009/07/29/tutorial-creating-a-custom-analogclock-widget/
http://www.anddev.org/index.php
Other than that, just start from the simplest Hello World -examples on Google's own Android site.
I'm going to start leurning Android programming
If ill find nice links i will post them here. Is there btw a way to program inside visual studio? Cuz all tutorials on the net are using eclipse.
You'll need to use Eclipse to my knowledge as its all Java based. The other alternatives are the IntelliJ plugin and doing it all from Command line/Text Editor.
Back to the Topic, I'm just trying my hand at a little Android development this week too, the tutorials and manuals at developer.android.com have been great!
Another thing, while I remember, if you've done any sort of .NET/ASP.NET development before you should find it a breeze, apart from the lack of Visual Studio (best IDE that ever was), they're VERY similar compared to some other languages/technologies I've used.
HeY Furios, Im new to android dev also, so if you don't mind, I would like to follow you and share any info I find with you and to whom ever else would like any info...Thanx
SDK 2.1
Hi Guys,
I went onto the SE developer site and got he x10 SDK, but it only gives me the choice for a 1.6 virtual Machine. Is there another place that I have to go to get the SDK for 2.1?
Thanks.
It would be cool to learn how to develop roms as well...or is that much deeper?
Well guy's start here on this thread first >>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667298
Made me think
need minor help!
im actually developing a few games, but im running into some seemingly basic issues, that i seem i cannot get to work. basically a button mash game, single/multi player, well on multi player i cannot for my life get the multi player functions to work, as in in the end the game already knows who the winner is based on an integer score, then it is supposed to use an sqlite database to take the highest scored player such as P1 or P2 and allow them to input there name to be permanently displayed. it cannot seem to differentiate using IF statements, but the feature does work with single player flawlessly, i may link source code if asked, TY
Noteriffic 0.53
Copyright (C) 2004 Rudis Muiznieks
Noteriffic is a quick little app I wrote because I felt that the PPC was
lacking a nice, simple, free note keeping/structuring application that has a
desktop counterpart....
All credit goes to Rudis, but now we have WVGA-Screens, so :
Could anybody of those famous and brave developers
compile this VB-Project for >> WVGA << ?
(Its working fine with QVGA and VGA)
Thanks a lot
Creature/entity appeared in mirror,
LOL
kahe40, I wanted to change something in this app the other day so downloaded a trial version of visual studio from MS plus dotnet compact framework. It let me edit the Noterrific source code and compiled a new version fine. I'm sorry I don't have time right now to work out incorporating WVGA, but thought you might like to know what I found out.
ps. if anyone wants the new source/compilation I can post. I simply added the ability for the app to remember which node it is on and return there next time it opens (otherwise it always ended up opening way down the list which drives me mad).
thanks ddk2, please have nice holidays, maybe later we can see...
what do you think about a dark grey background with white text ?
dont know, maybe there are problems with icons and checkboxes ?
and second: in settings, there is: use smaller font for list/display
would you please change to: use bigger font (only one step)
kahe40, did a very quick patch for you, no longer have large/small font, just textboxes so you can set your font size.
Source attached. Find exe's in each project (pda/desktop) in subdir bin\Release.
This version has my mods as described above.
Before you use it, take a copy of your data file (ntn ext) as mine was cleared out somewhere during testing and had to restore. I don't think its a bug, just something from testing, but take backup just to be safe.
Also did a quick test of grey background. Doesn't look that good to me, icons didn't come out well etc. Also presents issues that unless hardcode to grey, then need to make user option to set colour and that's a whole lot of frigging around....be my guest
very nice, good job, thanks a lot my friend
kahe40, don't know if you are still watching this but I just discovered I made a cockup in the last piece of code. I misinterpreted the use of one variable and the resultant problem shows up next time you go to add a node (I haven't added one for quite a while).
This version has corrected that. Also, changed the way I had it remembering which node it was on between sessions. Now saves with the apps variables (a sep file) rather than in the note file itself. Plus side is its much faster closing the app. Another sideaffect is that when syncing the file between pda and desktop, they each have their own memory of the last used node.
Yes, I am guilty my friend,
I traded my TouchHD for an iPhone, dont want to be banned from
this forum, but - man, oh man - what a wonderful OS ...
So I use the old version as shopping-list with my KS20 (QVGA).
Will test your new version soon, thanks a lot.
hello there
I've found this app some weeks ago to keep track of my actions on my work
Like a time log
Is there some some other app (free/paid) that does the same job.
I've found this one for ipod...http://ax.itunes.apple.com/app/id371157360?mt=8
shame that there isn't none for wm
Hey everyone, I've thought for a while now that there should be a way to install homebrew applications on the device itself and have written a little something talking about the idea here. This post is mostly copied from there and focuses on the installation problem, so if you want the full thing, check it out.
Guillemet is (well, will be) a package manager for Windows Phone 7; basically the equivalent of Cydia for iOS, except not based on an existing system like dpkg (because is it Windows-based, and a package system like this is not in widespread use for Windows). This means its main tasks will be:
Downloading packages (applications... or other things) from outside sources (repositories)
Installing these packages on the user's device
Periodically checking the repositories for any new versions of packages
Why call it Guillemet? There are a couple of reasons for this name. First of all, I was looking for a name that was short (a single word), unique enough to catch people's attention and just sounded nice. Guillemets are the characters used in certain languages (like French) where quotation marks would be used in English. They look like this: « Ce sont des guillemets. » Because it's a typographic character, I thought it fit in nicely with Microsoft's Metro design concept. Also, it pointing forward can represent 'progress' (or something like that... that's marketing right?). Finally, it makes a nice reference to one of the things that made this possible in the first place: a guillemet consists of two chevrons.
Because the installing of applications is required for the application to be useful at all, I think it would be important to focus on this for now. Here's a short overview of what it currently known:
Installation can be done via provxml, but requires DRM (and cracking it is not feasible).
There are some functions present that might do the job, but we cannot access them at the moment due to our low privileges (this thread is trying to do something about that).
Manual installation would require us to 'register' the application, which probably has to be done by editing the file \Application Data\Microsoft\PackageManager\pacman.edb, but we cannot access this at the moment (it might also be in use by the OS). This manual approach will give us more customization options, though.
With a system to install even just standard XAP's in place, the first step would probably be to create a protocol handler so XAP's can be downloaded and installed right from the browser. This will create an open environment akin to that on the desktop, and will be very simple to implement and maintain (or rather, not maintain). Later on a package management system can also be implemented (more about that here).
I hope some of you will like the idea and might even discover something to make this work
Wow, first post here I like the idea but I guess it's nearly impossible =/ There's already a project like that.. it's called xda market and they still work on a device client ^^ I'm curious if on-phone-deployment will work one day
Hey,
I created my own Lauchner and wanted to integrate the radio functions.
Since I didn't find any information on the internet about how the original app addresses the radio module, I reverse engineered the app.
To make it easier for others I decided to start an Android Studio project.
The project is only very basic to show how the radio module is controlled.
I also added an extension to it.
Using the RDS signal and a SQlite database the station name and logo are displayed.
I hope it is helpful to anyone.
I uploaded the project to Github:

(Sorry I´m not allowed to post links)
Kind regards
David
Great work!
Hey,
I have compiled the CarManager module into a jar file for easier use in Android Studio projects.
To be honest I never tried to understand how it works exactly, because it just works
I know that I downloaded the files somewhere on Github, but I have absolutely no idea where.
If the "creator" of the files is here please let me know so I can give him credit.
(I need still more posts to create links )
Thank you very much for your work!
Thanks to your library I realized a widget that reads (and shows) the battery voltage value.
I have a question : do you have a complete list of "type" that can be used ?
In you example you attached to your handler the types:
- Radio
- KeyDown
In my case I used "CarEvent" :
Java:
CarManager carManager = new CarManager();
CarManagerHandler carManagerHander = new CarManagerHandler(this);
carManager.attach(carManagerHander, "CarEvent");
In this way my Handler is receiving all the CarEvents. The voltage is contained in the message tagged as "battery".
There are other types that we can use in order to catch other interesting events?
Thank you,
Salvo
