What does this mean? Seriously.
If you need help, you're going to have to write in such a way that others may understand you.

Whats hard to understand, he's looking for an app to change the trackball color when you recieve a call or text. Which I dont think is out yet since theres no full root
What the OP is missing in the post is the word notification.
The top battery led indicator (see page 16 of the G2 user manual "Notification LED") doesn't flash as notification of missed calls, e-mail, etc and a fix should be available soon. I contacted HTC and that's what they told me.

One more thing, HTC refers to it as a Trackpad, not "Digital track ball".
See post #31.

Cyanogen has written a file than enables notification. It works for me, but would need to be reinstalled at each reboot.
Try the app noLED. Not perfect, but a decent alternative work-around.

I'd be careful with this...this was made for the amoled screens and it worked well because it only needed to light that small portion of the screen. lcd's are backlit. This has the potential to kill your battery crazy fast.

I love this work-around. I only use it for texts tho, but have yet to see any battery drain.
perhaps i'll leave it on for a while and see if theres any big hits.
Is it possible to get a soundbyte to play everytime we turn the screen on and off? That would super awesome. I'd love it if i could get it to make it sound like a lightsaber turning on and off. Thats the nerd in me lol

Well if there's a soundbyte for locking and unlocking... There's half of it!... Kind of, if you lock your phone that is.
So maybe.
Has me curious now... it does have the option for the sound when you lock unlock... so is that sound byte replaceable?
It's /system/media/audio/ui/Lock.ogg
Seems like the same sound is used for both lock and unlock. You could try replacing it and see what happens.

At first guess, I'd say so, since the system is looking for that particular filename. When Google released Android, all the system sounds were in ogg format. It's a feature, not a bug.

there's actually a Lock.ogg and an Unlock.ogg that i've seen. i have tried replacing one with a .ogg sound file, but it doesn't hold. it still reverts back to the original sounds for me
I don't know if you've already found an answer but I got mine to play a sound when turning the screen on/off by installing Widgetlocker, one of the options it offers is to play a sound when locking/unlocking phone as well as when turning the screen on/off.
It has a lot more features that I use and love, but it is a Paid app and dont know if you want to buy it just for the sound option. Hope this helps!
Edit: It doesnt have an option to play a custom sound on the app, but you may be able to change it on the apk?? Just a thought, I've never tried it.
I just replaced the oggs in the ui folder in sounds.
idk about CM7 but it worked fine in CM6. Someone posted it a while back.
I've got Metal Gear Solid sounds for Lock/Unlock =)

I had a mod for the nexus s that disabled the keys, I could adapt it to this phone probably. Using cm9 i'm guessing?
No, actually I'm using AOKP, does that change the difficulty in adapting it?
NVM I looked at your mod and adapted it myself, no flash zip necessary. For anyone else who wants to know you delete the text in /system/usr/keylayout/sec_touchkey.kl and then save changes in a root explorer app.
Is there any trick to turning the lights off on cm9?

Yeah I don't want to completely disable the keys themselves, I just want to turn the annoying, battery-wasting backlight off. The CM9 setting to do so does not work.

Some ICS roms like codename have a "lights.sph-d710.so" file so push the the lights.exynos4.so and delete the d710 one then reboot (if that's the case).

Why would you ever want on screen buttons instead. Phone screens are small as is, and youre choosing to use a portion of it to be dedicated to buttons you already have? Not to mention theyre not as responsive as capacitive buttons and theyre bound to get in the way sooo much more. I think its the worst part of ics, and Ill be dissapointed if the s3 ships without capacitive buttons, even if it does make ot look cooler. And the removal of search and menu is downright retarded
The .so file does indeed work. Thanks so much for the workaround.
Also on the general subject I would much prefer fewer buttons on my mobile device. My HP laptop has capacitive buttons and they are the cause of many headaches. Even the menu button on my E4GT sporadically activates on its own from time to time. Google did it right with ICS and the Galaxy Nexus. The keys are there only when you need them and auto-hide when you don't meaning the screen real-estate is not as much of an issue as one might think.

I am trying to do it because my hardware buttons randomly press themselves making the phone difficult to use. I get where you are coming from though.
I'm searching around trying to fix my phantom search button issue but don't want to flash a different rom or start a new thread... I'm rooted with framaroot (great system, so easy to do), have busy box, root browser- virgin mobile S2 SPH-D710, same as the Epic 4G touch. I found a thread in another forum talking about editing the button to simply no longer have a task, but in regards to the menu button and not the search button which is the one that is giving me the phantom issue. Thread is here:
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...th-ics-jb-phantom-menu-keypress-easy-fix.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203059
Anyone know how to go about deleting the functionality of the search button?
I want to take this approach as it seems the only way short of a new/referb or hunting down a custom rom where the software somehow fixes the issue via programming. I did have virgin send me a referb and it had the same issue lol, so working on fixing it the xda way haha. For those with the same issue and wondering what is causing it, IMO the best explanation I found was from another forum, it seems to be hardware, where a screen replacement or capacitor addition is the fix because some S2s had bad quality control and a magnetic shield was not installed correctly and when the cell antenna is in a low reception area, it increases power and that causes an inductive voltage situation or some other power issue and makes the handset think the menu or search button is pressed. I found some who feel that even though it's a hardware issue, of course the software could be set to prevent the cell antenna from 'juicing up' in low reception areas.

The flickering in that video is not a result of recording, my phone actually looks like that. crazy flickering and horizontal streaks that appear every time there is a mostly white screen (which is why doing stuff like pulling the notification bar down will stop it temporarily i think)... this happens in all apps that have a white screen such as facebook. i've tried rebooting and reflashing the ROM.
has anyone seen this before? do i have to get a new phone?

I had that happened to my phone and it continued. Even when I was I full stock. I took my phone to the sprint store and the. Tech said the cord was a little loose but. It still did that. I got a replacement since. It was a hardware instead of software. The phone I have now does it only when I mess with voodoo values. So it could just be a hardware issue

So, many of you are aware of how abysmally low the speaker volume is on the phone after getting the JB update. Unfortunately all the information on it is scattered among several different posts and threads, and I just wanted to get some clear answers and use this as an informational post for others who are annoyed by this bug.
What, if anything, do we know about why it happens? Is there a definitive fix system-wide, or do I have to use volume boosting apps? I run franco kernel, are there going to be any compatibility issues with proposed fixes? I like using mostly stock JB, can I get a ROM that makes minimal changes to the original while still fixing the volume issue?
After randomly doing a search for volume fix a few minutes ago I saw this. Did search for same exact reason (gnex 4.1.1). Awesome beats (one of multiple equalizer apps) is said to work. I'm gonna try it in the morning (so as not to have a very annoyed girlfriend at 4am). There's probably a good amount more info on this. As for the last part..pure-ish 4.1.1 aosp Roms are very pleasing...like buttah lol.

If you have Franco.kernel, download his app from the play store (it costs a few bucks, not super expensive). In the settings tab there is an option to increase the max sound volume. I recommend setting it to 2; if you set it to 3 sometimes the sound will cut out on max volume.

I have no idea if this is correct information or not, so take it with a grain of salt, but I read earlier today in the Franco thread that that setting only affects the headphone volume, not speaker volume. I can tell you it does nothing for the volume on my GNex (speaker). I love this phone dearly, but I absolutely hate the low volume. I never have music on my phone, but I use the speaker phone multiple times a day while at work in my truck. I've yet to find a fix that actually increases the speaker volume on calls, and I've tried just about every ROM and tweak around. I'm beginning to think the people that swear some of these fixes work are just having a placebo effect.

The dev says it doesn't work with the system stuff (like ringtones, notifications, etc.) Works for music volume on JB though. Check it out, seems like a lot of people with various JB roms are using it successfully. It's kinda hard to be sure it's not working without trying it. I try Volume+ on my jelly bean nexus. Only the music volume work, not the system volume (like ringtones). I missed so many call because the ringtone vol is not loud enough even at max vol level. I know I can install ROM, but I prefer stock right now.
There are no mods available as of now for boosting ringtone or notification volume for galaxy nexus on jelly bean. All the mods like awesomebeats/volume+ and also the default musicfx only work on music volume.
I have tried all the mods on all JB Roms which claim to boost ringtone volume, but none really work. The effect if at all is very marginal.
The problem lies with the way google has implemented Jelly Bean. The solution has probably go to come from them until one of the geeks here manage a workaround.
Lets see if volume+ developer manages to release a working version.
I am currently using volume+ on AOKP milestone6(ICS 4.0.4) to great effect.
There is no point in upgrading to JB unless the ringtone volume level problem is addressed. What is the use in owning a phone which you cannot here ringing.
Really need a stock solution. The reason I have the Galaxy Nexus is to avoid flashing madness with the stock experience. Is it a tracked bug?
