Factory reset question... - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

I've wiped multiple times in twrp 2.6.3.3 and done it three four times before flashing a ROM through Odin again. I even went as far as doing an advanced wipe and wiped everything including the system. Buy my problem I'm having is I'm a little confused as to why when I flash a ROM with Odin, I keep getting the same wallpaper I had with that firmware. I didn't even have that wallpaper before I started this from stock. Its the p600ztubnb1_p600zztbnb1_home.tar.md5 file. Its like my tablet just remembers what wallpaper I had with that firmware. Even though I wiped everything. I even took my SD card out before wiping. Any ideas? Or am I a worry wart?

That says a lot... Thanks for the detailed reply lol. Are you trying to say Google backup/restore is saving my wallpaper? Never had that happen before.

Just trying to be to the point. yeah maybe Google is backing up and restoring it every time you reset I don't know just an option. Unless the recovery is not really resetting the tablet

Is the OP using Samsung backup/restore services? That one saves the wallpaper for sure, I have been teaching myself to the point of softbricking the device how to recover, to bring it back to the same state I like it etc. So yes, sometimes online services might be giving you options that drive you betty. You can call me Al.

Are you using a Samsung account? That will backup and restore your wallpaper automatically

I do but, not the restore part. And the last few times I've been skipping the Samsung login.

I know Google has the backup and restore setting and you'll see it checked when setting up your ROM on first run. A quick look on the net some people think it also backs up wallpaper. I've never had that happen but then I don't flash much anymore...

Backup Google Wallet

So I have Google Wallet and I'm bout to flash my phone... I need to know what the best way to back up and restore Google Wallet data is...
I could definitely be wrong, but i was under the impression that if you restore Wallet data after changing ROMs that it will most likely cause the 'secure element' error and you wont be able to use wallet anymore ever.
I believe the correct thing to do is to open the Wallet app, clear all data from within app. Then after installing your new ROM do a fresh install of Wallet (if it wasnt already included in the GApps you most likely had to flash).
Hopefully others will chime in and correct me if i misspoke
I use Google servers restoring all my apps, when switching to different rom . I've been using google wallet with stock, axiom 2.4, and milestone 2.
I never use Titanium or other method to backup apps.

if I clear my wallet data will it restore my $100 balance after re-installing it in a new ROM?
You won't lose your money. Google Wallet reactivates itself when you reinstall the app and log back in to your Google account. I've done it multiple times already on mine going between different roms and haven't had any problems with my google wallet.

Ahh the beauty of Google services and Android
As stated above, before wiping data and flashing new roms, reset the app from within the Google Wallet settings menu. You should be good to go after that. All your money and card info will transfer over.
make sure you document your user ID so if it doesn't successfully restore your account, google can locate your funds. some people here have lost their balance and sol since they didn't write this number down.

i made some backups. I'll go ahead and do the suggested clear data within the app before flashing

This is probably the safest thing to do. However, I don't even reset the app before i flash a new ROM (which I do twice a week), and i have never had a problem with my $$ transferring when i re-install Wallet
Does anyone know how to flash factory image to the phone via fastboot? I need help with this and my other thread about that is dead :<
Anyone wanna be generous with their knowledge?
http://www.wugfresh.com/dev/gnex-root-toolkit/ If you download the factory rom and use this tool it will flash the factory image for you, I have used it to unroot my Nexus and it works great.
This video encouraged me to activate google wallet on my phone. I got $10 for doing so.

Google Backup/Restore

I just flashed RC3 for CM7.2. Usually when I flash new ROMs, all of my downloaded apps automatically download in Google Play Store, but this time they didn't.
Anyone know why? Is there a way to manually initiate this if auto doesn't work?
Have you considered using Titanium Backup instead? Free or paid, its waaaaaaaaaaaay more reliable than Google Restore.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It depends on the ROM.

I think the free one does a good job. I have not tried the paid one though so I have nothing to compare it to.
A little off topic, but related - how do you disable Google restore? Annoys the hell out of me when it starts downloading apps I already have backed up.

You do that when you are setting up the device after a clean flash. It will ask you if you want to use Google Backup and Restore. Just uncheck the box. I'm not sure if it can be turned off after this point.
I also want to know the, answer

It doesn't ask me, it just starts installing apps when I boot the phone. Only happens with some ROMs though.
Edit: Are you talking about the setup process? If there's an option there, I may have missed it.

[Q] Does Tacoroot Method Erase Your Data?

Does the Tacoroot method described here erase all your data (apps, texts, call log, etc)? I've done some searching but haven't found a definitive answer.
Thanks!
Yes because it downgrades your ota version
Sent from viperINC2DIX
Copy that, just wanted to make sure. Was going to do it for a co-worker but they don't want to lose all their data. Can't have your cake and eat it too There's not really a sure way to tell if the Google automatic backup thing will restore apps and data when I get the phone working again is there? Just losing texts and call log is not a big deal.

As far as I know.
Not sure if go backup can do data, thought you had to have root for that. Contacts will be saved if they are synced with Google, if not there are apps for it, messages can be backed up, really all you're losing is app data. If you do want to try out a different root method that won't wipe your data, shoot me a PM and I'll hook you up tomorrow morning, it hasn't been tested yet.

If their data is worth 6 bucks, I am pretty sure titanium pro can backup data on unrooted phones now, but can only restore to rooted. You'd have to go look into it more for the details.

[Q] Device Management won't go away.

I checked my phone this morning, and in the pull down menu it said "Connecting to DM server.." It's been sitting like that for several hours and won't go away/connect. I've tried restarting my phone, but that didn't help. Anyone know what my problem may be?
I am also rooted, I don't know if that would interfere or not.
You could just freeze AT&T Software update using an app like bloatware freezer free, since you are rooted.

I don't think this is bloatware though, I think it's an AT&T update. Possibly the 4.2.2 update?

aosp and wiping

Has anyone else noticed that when flashing from a stock ROM to aosp, the wallapaper previously used with a different aosp ROM is remembered and used? I always wipe data cache delvik and system. Somehow my phone always remembers what wallpaper I had previously. Maybe this is just minor but is it possible that it isn't wiping everything? Idk, maybe there's a simple reason but I was just wondering. Thanks
Is this before or after restoring apps that you notice this. My wifes phone doesnt do this.

Maybe you check the settings when you're logging in to your gmail account where it ask you restore all data and apps from previous phone. Don't remember the phrase but something like that if you do check it then it will restore the wallpaper
