Hey fellow LG Owner(s) I am writing this asking for some help. I know that majority of LG Phones use the same software and flashing tools regarding taking your phone back to stock. I currently own an LG G Flex (LS995 Sprint Variant) and I managed to soft brick my phone. I have posted this same message over at the LG G Flex Threads but so far I have gotten no one to provide me some sort of solution on how to un-brick or factory reset my phone.
The status of my phone before it got bricked was it had Root (IOROOT method), Busy-Box (by Jrummy), Build.Prop was edited to display as a Nexus 5, and boot-loader locked along with no custom recovery. If you’re wondering why my boot-loader was locked and why there wasn’t any type of custom recovery was due to the sad fact that Developers are having a hard time on cracking it.
Now to explain on how I soft bricked my phone. I was changing my font style by using a tool called ROM Toolbox (by Jrummy). I managed to change my font once and I attempted to change it a second time, since I was looking for something that displayed it wider and bolder. So as I applied install on the new font I got an automatic reboot.
The reboot consisted of the normal LG Logo display, followed by a black screen and staying as a black screen. On the upper left of my phone the notification indicator was flashing multiple colors (red, white, blue etc). This is the current state of my phone, black screen with a multicolor notification.
My attempts to fix:
- Simple reboot of the phone ((fail))
- Let the phones battery drain out then charge for a few minutes and restart ((fail))
- Managed to get into STOCK recovery and perform clean partition ((fail)
- Managed to get into STOCK recovery and apply factory reset ((fail))
- I got into some weird mode which also gave me the option to apply factory reset ((fail))
- I followed this tutorial (LG Flash Tool) on how to revert back to stock (by hyelton) ((fail))
Link to tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2644083
The tutorial by hyelton was almost successful to reverting back to stock firmware until I got to the last step (Number 6). The error that occurred by using the LG Flash Tool was when the tool attempted to flash the stock firmware it gave me a Download FAIL!! “Device Model is different“ notification (Images below). I did this tutorial at least seven times and I got no luck. Every single time that I attempted to do this I kept getting the same notification. I have now ran out if ideas on what to do.
My theory, I believe that by changing my build prop to display as a nexus 5 is the reason why I keep getting this fail notification. On the phone it-self when I put it into download mode it even displays as a Nexus 5 (Images below).
I was wondering since it’s possible to get into STOCK RECOVERY, I saw that it had an option for “ADB SIDELOAD” is it possible to push something thru ADB??? Any type of help is greatly appreciated and thanked. Please do not get upset that you see this in multiple LG threads, I am just trying to find a solution to UNBRICK this very expensive phone that I bought and I cannot afford to just use it as a paper weight. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS

Alright yall, I am almost official screwed. I purchased this phone about a month ago from Best Buy and they stated that I am out of there 15 day window so I cannot exchange or replace for the same phone. I then went to Sprint on whom I have phone insurance for and they stated that they cannot do anything and that I have to go to one of their Sprint repair stores. I went to one of the repair stores and the gentlemen that assisted me plugged my phone to his computer and immediately knew that my phone was rooted. So from there I played the dumb blonde card acting like I don’t know what he’s talking about and from there he directed me to call LG and see what they can do. So now the current status is I filed a repair request and now I am awaiting a reply from LG. Does anyone have any suggestion???

i would try following this guide, make sure you use the g flex .tot and .dll though. copied from the lg g2 back to stock guide from hyelton

RETURN TO STOCK TOT Method! AT&T & Sprint Verzion & The Few International TOTs I have available
Download
1. LGFlashTools v1.8 - Download
2. Drivers - Download
3. Download Both Stock Image File and DLL (Both Files) - Download
Credit to @madmack for making most of this Guide for the G Pro Which also works on our G2
3.1 - FOR SPRINT FIRMWARE - Click Here
3.2 FOR International KITKAT TOT`s Click Here
Install
1. Install the LG drivers downloaded above.
2. Install LGFlashTools v1.6 (but don't run it)
3. Extract the TOT file from the ZIP
Drivers initialization
1. Put the phone into download mode. (Turn off device PRESS VOL UP while plugging in the micro usb cable. If this doesn't work, try holding both volume keys instead)
2. Let the phone initialize and install the drivers. Once done, in Device manager, you should see the LG phone listed under COM ports (something along these lines).
3. Find that LG entry in Device Manager, click on Properties, Advanced and then change the COM port to COM41 and close/save.
4. Unplug your phone! Important step.
LGFlashTools
To get this tool to work, you'll need to do a few tricks.
1. Set the computer's date to some time in July 2012 or before.
2. Disconnect the internet
3. Find a serial number or register key from somewhere on the web (a google search for lgflashtools serial will yield some results). Can't help you here and please don't share any keys in this thread or get us in trouble.
4. Execute the LGFlashTools. It should ask you for a key, put it in. Now you should see a dialog where you can load the DLL file and the TOT files that you extracted earlier. Put them both in here. Click ok
Flashing
5. There is a yellow arrow on the top left. Click on it to initialize the process. Once done, it should say "ready/finished" or whatever.
6. Put the phone in download mode again, and plug it into the USB port. LG FLash Tools should start flashing it automatically. When it's done, it'll automatically reboot into your stock AT&T rom and all of your data and internal sdcard files are gone.

i have followed that guideline but when i go into download mode the phone displays as a nexus 5 instead of lg g flex and from there the lg flash tool fails to flash anything because it displays different model. remember my build prop was edited to display as a nexus 5

adb sideload comes up as an option on stock recovery. can you please show me the command to push that. also do i have to pull the old build prop and then push the original one???
just a quick thought here, I had kind of the same problem on my G2 LS980 ( it thought it was a model 801) and to get around the error I used the correct .dll for my model phone but renamed it to the reported models .dll name, this should get the LG Tool past that check .dll error,
so for your case, you will need to find the Nexus .dll to get the name of it, then you will make a copy of your LG Flex .dll and rename that copy to the name of the nexus .dll, then when you manually load the .dll into LG Flash Tool use the renamed .dll, hope this helps you out, best of luck!

Help lg flash tool not working
Sent from my R1 HD using Tapatalk

Just got this phone less than 12 hour ago.
I have searched everywhere but cannot find any answers.
So first of all, I have rooted, and unlocked my bootloader. I then proceeded to install CM 10.1. Install went perfectly, but when I restart the phone, the LG splash comes on for less than a second and goes straight to a backlit black screen. No matter how many roms I try to install, they all do this..
I have installed LGNPST but when it recognizes my phone, it goes into emergency mode and under DEVICE it says "Unknown"
I have all of the drivers for my phone
If anyone could help me and say what is going on I would greatly appreciate it. I have looked on these forums for atleast an hour before I decided to post this thread.
I have the E971.
Thanks all

Will do, give me a few seconds to download it.
Would anyone help me get the appropriate KDZ tool that I can use that actually has rogers? The ones I have do not have it. Nor my phone model
You'll be fine. LGNPST/KDZ will work.

Download the Rogers 10d from here: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=20#rogers
LG Optimus G E971/3/5
Thanks guys. For some reason, the KDZ updater wont let me choose the file to update/ Instead of the yellow folder to locate the file, the text box is empty and the button to find it is no where to be found...
try a different computer. i'm surprised that i even have to say that.
On the other computer the program crashes :S
In that KDZ updater folder, there is another executable msi file I believe that you may need to install first.
LG Optimus G E971/3/5
Yup use the KDZ method to fix. If you're on rogers (e971) you need to get the kdz from
lg-phone-firmware.com then scroll down and download version 10d.
You can also download direct from LG if you can get the link.
This post links to the original NEW JB update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2196742
ALWAYS FLASH CUSTOM ROMS FROM 10D
Run the msxml.msi or get the microsoft xml pack from microsoft.
Run the LG Software from the website to install ADB access for windows.
Put your phone into download mode and run the KDZ updater program.
Wait. If you get a bootloop do a factory reset.
Better tutorials are available on here you just have to look around. This is where I got my info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010624
I on the other hand have lost the ability to downgrade. Phone stuck on boot animation after first reboot during flashing with KDZ. I only have download mode available. Looks like from now on the MTP driver simply will not load. Sheesh.
Edit: I got Factory Reset option finally! All is good again. I really had to KDZ this thing like 30+ times.
Exact same thing happened to mine. After 5 days of literally trying everything I went to sprint and they replaced it with a new one.

I was using this method to root my phone: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...-VIhhUe3eupYY1bKA&sig2=MyzZOys2QGrlPe6Pwlh_AQ
& I was stupid and combined the 20B file with the 10R file and then also didn't label TWRP as boot.img as the installer tells me to do as I overlooked that.
Now, I can plug in my phone and my computer recognizes it (Windows). I can't view any files though I just hear the sound that something via USB got connected.
I've tried taking out the battery and unplugging it and pressing the power button for 60+ seconds and then putting it back in and trying to go into download mode. It doesn't seem to work. THough I hear the sound of it plugging into the computer.
So, I tried the LG Flash Tool. It fails at model information check. Then has a bunch of zeros after that.
I tried LG Flash Tool 2014 and all of the KDZ files I had on my computer (as I was unrooting just last night and trying to fix stuff and had KDZ files that worked for me to unroot). Well, that fails with all of the files.
Since that didn't work, I've been googling stuff and decided to try the original tool I had and that's when I noticed I didn't rename TWRP to boot.img and I combined 20B with 10R and figured out my problem. So now aboot and laf don't match the software that the phone has installed on it. For this reason, I can't do anything with my phone.
I'm assuming this is a hard brick. How do I fix this? I need my phone TODAY like an hour ago. :/ I was stupid to try and re-root. Ugh.
Can someone help me please?!
EDIT: I tried the LG Mobile Support Tool and I was able to get to the Install USB Driver section. I clicked it and it loads but nothing happens. So, I clicked options > Upgrade Recovery. I entered my IMEI number and it went through the steps and one of my batteries was low so I changed it out and went back through and it stops randomly and tells me to do the Upgrade Recovery which I was already doing. :/
EDIT 2: Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver from the device manager and then re-ran LG Flash Tool but it stopped at the model info check fail again. So I tried all of the USB ports on my computer and they all stopped at the same error.
EDIT 3: I can't find my iPhone so I really need this fixed. I just want to be clear that I tried these methods as well and nothing has worked thus far: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
I checked the LG website for drivers and such as well so everything should be A'OK from that point of view. I even tried my USB 3.0 that are in the front of my computer.
EDIT 4: Still no luck. Been searching google and other places. I tried fastboot and adb but my phone isn't recognized by those so I can't do those. I want to try and flash the files I found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2766437
As I know that will help but without fastboot working, I don't see how I can get the files to be seen. Even if I were to put them on my MicroSD card, I don't see how I could flash them onto my phone. :/ That's all I need are the aboot_XXX.img and laf_XXX.img files fixed. UGH
EDIT 5: Called T-Mo to get a replacement. That will be here Monday. Until then I am doing my best to try and figure out how to fix this. I am severely upset by this. Found my iPhone so I won't be without a phone I'll just be upset until UPS gets here on Monday.
Well I hope this is a lesson for you. Unless you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing you read, read, read, and read some more. No where in that thread says you can do this on the d851, we have a unlocked bootloader and do not need bump. About your tot problem you can find generic dll that will not care what you're flashing. Be safe and stay out of the international threads from now on. I was a little harsh but I can kind of understand how that happen to you, that OP is a cluster f***

I recently had a problem with my phone and I was able to restore using TOT and KDZ files but my phone kept power cycling over and over. I sent it to LG and they replaced the usb port and the screen as I had put a dent through the back where the battery goes and they replaced all the parts and I guess a new board due to the power cycling due to flashing ota with twrp. It looks like a brand new phone but it's mine because the IMEI was the same. I would try to flash it using the TOT method and if it still doesn't work then send it to LG, the worst they can do is send it back. All I paid was 10.00 bucks for the box. Everything else was covered including shipping back to me. Go via the LG website and they will give you a free FedEx label and a Case #.
Good luck

I already did. Nothing. Finally got my replacement g3 and everything works. Was able to root and install lollipop ROM. Works like a charm.
I've used this forum site to read many posts but this is my first post.
So first off, let me just say that I am new to androids and rooting.
I Just received my LG G3 today, and the first thing I did was a root. It was successful.
I wanted to get a camera mod that lets you record in 60FPS instead of 30.
I followed this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/mod-cameramod-bitrate-fps-image-quality-t2830291
It had me replace "media_profiles.xml" with the original one in "system/etc"
(I made sure to set the correct permissions)
I rebooted the device like the tutorial said...
When I opened the camera app, the camera didn't work, it was just a black screen, so I decided to replace the new "media_profiles.xml" file with the original one.
Unfortunately I didn't back it up (i didnt think to :crying: )
So I searched online for the original file and I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/help/looking-camera-files-t2834874
I replaced the file with what i found in that thread and when I restarted the phone, It was stuck on the intro LG screen.
I tried so many things and nothing is working!
I was able to put the phone in the factory reset mode by holding the volume down and power button
but when I chose to reset it and clicked "Yes," It went right back into the boot logo and it was stuck again.
(I also tried recovering it in the LG PC Suite program but it doesn't detect the phone when it's bricked, and yes I have the drivers installed)
There HAS to be a way to fix this or fully reset my phone! Again, I JUST got this phone so i'm not afraid of loosing any of my data.
Thanks in advance.

You can enter into download mode which means you can flash KDZ to restore your phone. Which version of android did you recieve your phone with out of the box?

Thank you! I'm surprised I didn't find that! This saved my phone!
Glad it did
Hi everybody, is there any one who can give me a link of .tot modified file with hex editor, I flashed my phone (LS980) with wrong firmware (D802) and when I try to flash it with the right file wich is destined for LS980 the flash tool consider the phone as a D802 model, I tried all methods I found on XDA to restore my phone but nothing done, my phone still brick, and the only way to flash it now is to modify the .tot file with a hex editor soft, if there is someone who can give me a link to that file, or to show me the exact line to modify in the file and which hex soft to use it will be a great help for me.
Thank you in advance (Please try to give the help I demand, because I tried every methods)
Hello kakah2011, First of all i'd tell you to calm down its gonna be alright. secondly can you explain briefly the previous version of software you were running. Android version and the software version, if you could mention would be of great help. And did you flash D802 rom yourself, as if it were running LS980 previously or did you buy the phone already flashed with a fake D802 rom. I can guide and provide you on how to resolve the issue but first i need to make sure which partitions are flashed to your phones memory currently.
just relax. i had exactly the same issue and it got sorted out. My phone(hardware ls980) came with a fake 802 software on it. So i assumed its a 802 and flashed 802 roms on it till it completely got screwed up. the touch went crazy and the phone got into a auto restart loop.
I have the edited file, but i dont know how to give you a 2.5 gb file. Any ideas how it can be shared.
I edited the original file using flexhex. You just need to change the first instance of the word LS980 to D802. the trick here is that in hex editor format when we replace L with D , S with 8, 9 with 0, 8 with 2,0 we replace with a spacebar. The last parts a mistake. 0 should be replaced by a blank and not a spacebar. Copy a blank from nearby and insert it. or try a 00 value. I dont remember exactly what i did. but my mistake was that i was replacing the 0 with a space bar.
after the format, my phone stopped getting into the download mode. Instead i got stuck in some fastboot mode which was getting activated by using the volume up key while inserting the wire(before this, i was getting download mode in volume down+usb wire insertion). had to struggle a bit to get the phone back to download mode. I used something called adb tools to get this done. If you konw these tools, its just a 2 min job.
After that i reflashed the original tot file of ls980 and the phone started working great.
if you need anyhelp, call me if you are from india on 9700000678. Else pm here or email on [email protected]
dont forget to thank me.

Thak you Mr, I think that the previous Firmware before I flash it was a LS980 (4.4.2 or 4.2.2), and I think that the version that I flashed the phone with is 16GB, and I can't use adb fastboot with PC to because it don't recorgnize the IMEI and the only way to restore it is the download mode (No Philz recovery) and I must notice that the screen is not normal (when I push it in an area it moves in another), I think that it's bricked for ever!!!!???

The .tot can only be flashed in download mode, on a serious note i'd suggest you here to give your phone to some expert it wouldn't cost you much. But if you'd like to follow.. download mode can easily be restored using the method in the link i just provided earlier. When you get into download mode only then your rom can be restored.. btw please follow as instructed cause if something wrong goes here eg flashing wrong image in fastboot or wiping all at once.. could lead the phone to hard brick and would cost you double as much later to get it fixed. My personal suggestion is to pay $15-30 for this operation and get it over with.. do you have any suitable repair shops in your area?

First I want to thank every one who helped me to restore my G2(especially Krunal Jain who shows me the first step which is the key), finally you've just to download the LAF file and flash it in order to get back download mode then you can flash the .tot firmware of the LS980.
The prbleme now is that there is no more adresse MAC when entering to Wifi settings, and also Cellular network, I guess that these two things need a lot of search to restore them !! Any suggestion??? THANK YOU GUYS

Hello brother
I fixed mine yesterday, i ll tell what to do
If you want to get access to download mode, just remove the buttons connector ,then that metalic plat that its glued in just to get access tothe ic chip and motherboard , of course to do this u need to takr off the baterry and all connectors, once u takr off yhe buttons reconnect every connwctor except the one of buttons and baterry
Thrn connect the the phone to the pc by using a usb (without baterry) then u need a liyyle screw driver or a wire to short the capacitor c5000 and c5004, keep trying till u heard thr pc detect new device named qhusb
Great , for that you need to download srk tool 2.1 just google it
Then selectfix utility then unbrick qhusb and select the correct drive
It will flash : haf, boot , aboot
Thats good for now ur download mode is back to life
Then for ls980 u need to install stock tot file (ls890zv7.tot) flash it with lg flash tool use manual mode u need a dll file (lgls980_20130904_lgflashv151.dll) download it on google... i ll send you links later hiw to do this,im using my phone
Once finished , ur phone is back to life but no signal
Easy ,just need to root. Then install twrp recovery
After that u need to install via recovery mode the (ls980stockuniversal to d802.zip)
And u re phone is getting signal and being fixed
edit: here the tutorial links that helps ya how to do everything
1- to get your phone alive ( to be detected as qusb_bulk)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/lg-g2-unbrickable-fix-real-hard-brick-t2904404
2- this to fix the qusb issue & download mode back to life
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERZvlJIC9dE
3- to install the stock tot rom , Root , then install twrp recovery mode , & then full unlock you cell phone

I found the guide to unlock downgrade and root 20i, but since i was already on 20i i figured id just skip to the unlock part.
ADB connected.
Got the oem unlock to work flawlessly, tried to boot TWRP, and it said file sent, cannot boot, file unsigned (or something similiar, can copy paste the actual text when i get off work tonight)
I got annoyed and just booted the phone normally and it worked fine and is unlocked-
But cant get the phone to show up on adb again.
Maybe try the universal drivers? Seems to hang on the drivers- the laptop has them installed but the phone doesnt know that they are and keeps asking me to reinstall (which doesnt work)
Any ideas?
Should i start over, upgrade the stock rom and then downgrade, like the directions actually say?

The LG driver you've installed on your laptop is most likely no longer functional for the phone. If it shows in Device Manager when you're trying to connect it, uninstall it (mine didn't work either after unlocking/using FWUL, or something else, for whatever reason).
Once the current driver is uninstalled, turn off your computer, plug your phone in with the USB cable and then turn on the computer and let Windows install the driver now (It worked on mine).
See the attachment below for a screenshot of the current driver for my LG G4 that is working completely.
I got it to show up, but I've realised I have the motherboard issue common to G4's.
The phone hangs at 'bootloader unlocked' lg screen.
Hope the seller will give me a refund or exchange.

It may just be a 'soft brick' you've encountered, in which case you should be able to it overcome relatively easily. First thing to try, is just unplug the phone and take out the battery. Put the battery back in and see if it will boot up. If not, see if you can get into Download mode and flash your rom version for your phone model with LGUP-NEW.
With respect to TWRP, if you can get into bootloader/fastboot mode, refer to this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/recovery-twrp-3-touch-recovery-t3442424 and follow the instructions to flash by fastboot commands. Use the latest preview version for your rom version, i.e., MM, N or O.

Thanks for the tip. I already tried ADB (wouldn't boot reliably), LG UP (completes successfully- the phone, when LG UP sends the reboot at 75% or so, just hangs on the LG screen forever (though LG UP says it was successful). I also have LG Bridge, but haven't reached any level of success with it either. Luckily all these bookmarks will come in super handy with my replacement.
(Also the day it broke, somehow the camera activated in my pocket. I detected the warmth, but working an assembly line, under a cameras watch, I couldn't pull it out and fix it quickly.

OK - one last thing to try if you want to try it. Using the power and volume keys, see if you can get into Recovery mode to do a hard factory reset
- refer to this link for the how-to for entering Recovery mode: https://www.androidexplained.com/lg-g4-recovery-mode/
