Sketchbook no multi window?? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi
I'm using Sketchbook Pro to draw however, when I tried to use multi window and drag Chrome so I can use for references. However, I can't get it to split the screen, instead it just closes Sketchbook and loads up chrome full screen?.

Most apps do not support multiwindow. If you root and install Xposed framework the you can use multiwindow manager module to set almost every app to work in multiwindow.

I'm new to rooting but is this process difficult, last thing I want to do is brick my new tablet.

It would be very difficult to brick your tablet rooting but it will void your warranty. I am not stock but at the bottom of the multiwindow tab it has an edit button (small dotted triangle). Use that to see if maybe sketchbook can do multiwindow but is not enabled.

It's not multi window enabled. So yeah root, Xposed and multi window manager are your only hope

Coexistence of multiview with floating/resizable apps

I just bought the t-mobile GN2 (for a second time) since it now could upgrade such that multi-view works. For fun, while using the multiview split screen I tried to use "wave launcher". It turns out, if you open an app like terminal it fills the screen and the app works fine. When you exit that app, it puts you back where you were with the multiview split screen. Now if instead you open an app like floating browser or hovernote using wave launcher it works on top of the multiview but is re-sizable so it does not fill the screen. So the multiview can coexist with some floating apps. Another weird thing is that some of the floating apps actually appeared in the multi-view launcher but I didn't put them there!. Indeed, I could launch the floating app from this launcher and still use the multiview feature at the same time. I just just thought it cool if in the future one could simultaneously use multiview feature and something like swipepad or wave launcher to open other apps such that they can appear in floating windows.
(Note, I made a similar post in the Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 forum (themes and apps) in relation to very nice work by xperiacle concerning mods for floating/reziable apps for the N7000. If this topic interests you I recommend following his work.)

If you think that's neat check out coldfustion's video on using the note 2 as a backup PC

Thanks. I was familiar with the video. It is really informative. In general, what I'm describing in my post would only enhance the GN2's capability as a PC substitute.

Multiview - No floating window mode?

From the reviews on youtube, it seems evident that Multi-View no longer supports multiple floating windows as the Note 10.1 1st gen has.
What happened? Is this downgrade a sign of things to come?

It's gone. Since Note 8 only 2 windows side by side are available. But now there is an option to open small floating window through Air Command, called Pen Window, only few apps are supported (calculator, web browser, youtube, few more). If smart people from this board can find a way to add other apps to Pen Window, then we're back to having floating windows.
Floating mode has been replaced by pen window. You can open up as many pen windows as you want in addition to the two side by side apps. It's actually better, we just need someone to produce a hack where we can add more apps to the pen window menu.

They've modded the note 8 rom to have floating windows. the note 2 also.

I believe I read somewhere about the Note 3 that someone (from XDA) figured out how to get any app to show up in the selection for pen windows. It's apparently a fairly simple modification, but one that has to be made to each app that you want to use as a floating app. All in all, I think we'll have any app we want floating around quite soon.

Ya I have the note 3 and its an apk which allows you to pick any app to show up in pen window. 100% something if not same app will show for note 2014
Necroing this thread. I have this very same issue on the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2012) that I upgraded to KitKat 4.4.2 , All was fine until I loaded my S-Note app to try do a floating window that I normally do and discovered there's no option any where to make the S-Note a window, just full screen. The floating S-Pen menu only gives the Action memo (not what I want) and the Pen window feature didn't even list S-Note among it, I looked further to see you can drag the icon into the Pen window but S-Note still will not launch in a window.
What is this apk file that allows multi-windows? What a downgrade to remove a very useful feature. I would float the S-Note in a window and pin it to take notes as I scroll through the Bible app during church. I can't believe Samsung didn't see the usefulness of that feature to not carry it over to the new OS.

[Q] Floating multiwindow?

I am coming from a tab pro, with floating multi windows. Did Samsung remove this awesome feature on the new flagship tablet? Or am I missing the switch to turn it on?

Please!, anyone?, answer to this question!
It seems they did remove this feature. I have the tab s t800 WiFi with lollipop and tried multiwindow plus (Google it) and to my surprise it restores some of this functionality. Give it a try at your own risk as it says it is incompatible with my tablet but still works.
I also found two other useful apps. MW-Pen App Enabler (allows you to alter the app without root to have ig work as a popup or 4 way window) and MW Commander which llows you to add an app to the multiwindow side bar (I believe this one may require root).

Floating Multi windows

Does anybody know how to get floating multi windows to work? I've tried installing the multiwindow plus app but it doesn't work with rooted phones.

Hi, The multiwindow plus app partly works on rooted devices but some of its features no longer work because of issues related to kitkat on the phone not because of root. You can still set up the quad view. But you can no longer launch an app as a floating window from the multiview sidebar. (Btw you can do this on the galaxy tab pro!) If you want to launch an app as a floating window you can use the app Floating Windows Shortcuts. If you still want to launch an app from a side launcher you can try unity launcher (perhaps there are others you can try as well) which allows shortcuts and is fairly customizable. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the clarification. I'll look into it.

Multiwindow or Wanam ?

Is there a difference between Multiwindow on the Google store or should I use Wanam to add more multi window functionality?.
Anyone please?.

Ive used MultiWindow Apps Manager in the past and it really only adds extra apps to your note's multiwindow pullout bar.
You might as well use Wanam, it will add those apps you want to add (and without a whole app just to do that) as well as other nifty features.
Edit: you need to be rooted of course (I think...I am always rooted)
