It depends on how careful you are with your phone, but I would definitely recommend a case and screen protector to avoid getting scratches, if nothing else.

I'm very careful but I agree with you for a screen protector and a case, any recommendation for the case, I saw the origin HTC bi color case but some people said it makes scratches....!?!

That depends on how much protection you want and if you mind covering up the back of the phone (it's nicer than most phones so some people rather not).

That's the one I have, and I like it a lot. Protects the sides and the back, without covering the aluminum body.

I never have much issue with screen scratches (usually) but I'd still err on the side of caution and do at the very least a screen protector. I'm going to replace my ZAGG (which I'm hoping is just scratched and not a crack on the screen ) with one of those fancy shmancy glass screen protectors with the rounded edges.

Ha ha, I have one of those fancy shmancy glass screen protectors. It feels nice and looks nice, but there are bubbles in the corners
TPU skin is good enough if you have good reflexes.
While it is falling, you'll probably break its fall by hitting it up. Plus you can find absolutely clear TPU skins.
A case is a must, screen protector is not.
What I do is whenever I get a brand new phone, I always start with a good protective case and a screen protector. After a few months, I gradually get thinner cases and usually end up with those 0.3-0.5mm thin cases that makes the phone feel nice and less bulky. If you plan to rock the phone naked, I'd recommend a phone pouch.
Sent from the "ONE" phone for me
Thank you very much for the quick response I'm still searching for a good frame or case, is it true that the origin HTC bi color case leaves scratches on the phone I won't believe it .....?! I also hope that the black version is scratch resistant some people said not......I just talked with a Vodafone assistant to change the black against the silver but he said to me that himself have the black one and I looks quite better and after two month usage without any case he have no scratches. I'll take the black one, it comes next week and I will give you a first impression.

Its not REALLY a must IMO. The phone actually holds up very well. Yesterday i purposefully put the phone in the same pocket with a bunch of coins and it scratched the aluminum but the scratches wiped right off. If you drop things than that would be a different story at aluminum can easily dent :good:
That was my point also ... it looks a little exaggerated to say that a case is a must.
I intend to use the phone "naked" indoors. Any case will practically ruin the nice feeling of the phone itself. Of course, if you drop it then there are chances to ruin the nice finish.
I'm also using the phone outdoors, fr sports. For that purpose I ordered a trident kraken ams ... I hope it will do the job.
P.S.: I saw that a OEM housing is "only" 50 bucks, free shipping ... I guess I'll buy one just in case .
I would say that if you carry your phone in your pocket a case is a must. I generally like to go case-less (especially with a phone this pretty), but after having my One slip out of my pocket on a couple of occasions, I ended up getting a case (Poetic Atmosphere; the rubberized edges keep it from slipping out). If you intend on getting a pouch of some sort, I think case-free is fine.
Also, I don't have a screen protector and have no scratches, though I tend to be pretty gentle with my phones.

On Etradesupply, the OEM housing is only like 30 bucks.
I say a TPU case is a must because:
1) You WILL drop it at some point, it's anodized AL, not grippy plastic.
2) The case provides a lip, so if you put your phone face down, the screen won't touch the surface & scratch from w/e dirt is there.
3) The case will also keep the camera lens (or the anodized back) from touching any surfaces.
4) I wear a ring, and if I don't put a case on, the ring scratches ONTO the phone. That's not good.
If you're REALLY careful, then none of these matter. but it's hard to be perfect.
Besides, when I'm in bed, I can just quickly remove the case for a little bit. It feels nice.
This phone is just too good looking to cover up, IMO. I've been going naked since day one I don't have a single scratch on it. The aluminum housing is solid and whatever glass HTC used really resists scratching. My One X screen got covered in microscratches pretty quickly, but I haven't seen anything on this phone.
Just treat it with care and you can forget the case. CNET tried to destroy their test phone and couldn't do it.
I have a double dip case bought at once with the phone. Well .. the feeling simply does not compare with the case on. It just loos cheap and plastic'ish ... is worse than galaxy S4 actually. So, with all the risks involved I will go "naked" while in normal use and I will use the kraken ams for outdoors. That's all ...
I only like corner protection. I don't care about the back.
I used to have a screen protector on this but I don't like it, it doesn't make the display look as nice. I have since taken it off and have not gotten any scratches, not even micro ones. I think this display is more tough than previous GG2 screens. I had the ONE X+ and it scratched easily.

I respectfully disagree, as will most in this forum that Android is horrible.
Maybe you can post what apps you are looking for and other users can tell you if there are equivalent apps.

Hello Senior Member,
Thanks so much for your quick response, ok I'm impatient, I found the first app for my marantz av and the buffalo server which works its the bubbleUPnP and it works with the iPhone equivalent not still searching the for the 8player.
So I just saw that Toast is now making a real wood back skin for the Moto X. I think they look pretty good.
http://www.toastmade.com/Home.html
Apparently, it's glued to the phone with some pretty strong adhesive but they have a removal video that showed no residue when peeled off. I have a dev edition Moto X but I may get one of these in bamboo or ebony.
Anyone else up for a try?

I will probably wind up ordering one, but I'm not sure of the color I want. I have a white front / cement back / black accents. Walnut or Ebony would look best, but which one? <.<
Wow... based on the videos I just watched, the adhesive is serious overkill. I recently got the dbrand mahogany skin and it is much easier to remove, while having no problem staying put.
The dbrand skin looks pretty good, but I removed because I wasn't crazy about the feel. The Moto X feels pretty insane naked and I have yet to find an accessory that improves on it.

correct me if I am wrong, but the dbrand skins are 3M material, thus not requiring the use of very strong adhesives. Real wood on the other hand is a different story

I am no expert on adhesive, and what they are using on the little strips that go on the edges of the iPhone may be necessary. But given the amount of surface area of the back, it seems what they're using is overkill. Even their own removal video shows the removal process as destroying the wood, even with heat being applied.
Is anyone worried about the lip or edge this would have in the back of the MotoX? Unless they taper the wood, you're going to feel some edges on the back.
I guarantee you're going to feel it , I can even feel the edge of the dbrand vinyl skin I have.
Has anyone tried sanding the edges to make it feel more natural?

I've been thinking about it because after a couple months the bamboo is chipping away at the edge.
I almost pulled the trigger on two of these for my wife and I with custom text. Then I read they are glued on. No thanks. I'm not ruining my Developer Edition. Now, if they snapped on like a normal case I'd of done it. We're both disappointed.
I have one on my DE and it looks and feels awesome. There is a removal technique.
i'm thinking about getting one of these. can anyone provide some feedback on the product?
i'm especially interested in the durability, and how the edges feel afterward (some people with vinyl skins complain about rough edges from the skins)

I've been using one for a bit over a month now and have absolutely loved it. Before I bought it I thought the edges would bother me and I was planning on sanding it, but honestly it feels fine (and gives the dimple on the back a much better hold).
None of the glue has lifted and there haven't been any scratches on it (gotten a couple bad drops without any damage).
I personally have the toast back with a glass screen protector, a combo that still leaves the moto x with the same amazing formfactor but keeps it safe from 80% of what usually gets damaged
So, I ordered this bumper case on Christmas Eve, and it ended up taking 15 business days for me to receive it, due to delays and because the product was being shipped from the UK, while I live in the US.
The case consists of plastic/TPU like frame with rubber going around it. The case was actually quite hard for me to put on, however, I think it might be because I have a skinomi full body protector on it, so it does take a bit of a push to get it in. Another thing is, the power and volume buttons can be kind of hard to push, and the camera button especially, but once again, I have a protective skin on the inside, so it is harder for me than it may be for you if you do not have one on it. I have attached a diagram that may give a better idea on this issue.
There is a nice grip to it, and there is alot of space between the rubber part of the case and the screen for you to set on the desk on the back or face-down, I even have a nillkin glass screen protector on the front, and it lies on its front side just fine.
Now, the bad thing about this case is that my magnetic charging cable did not fit at all. I had no choice but to modify the cable. I took a knife and cut off the sides, filed them down a bit, and then take some elmer's glue to fill in areas where I cut too deep. After that, it fit perfectly fine, and I have no issues with it what-so-ever. Note that I am using a 3rd party charging cable, I am not sure if the original DK31 cable will fit without any modifications.
The case comes in black, white, and purple. I have attached the links to the case and the respective colors below, as well as pictures of my own. Pictures were taken with my sister's Nexus 5 on 4.4.2 Stock KitKat.

Purple:

UPDATE: So I went ahead and removed the skinomi side guards, and the buttons are ever so slightly easier to press. The most noticable difference is the dedicated camera button, as it was extremely hard to push down all the way in order to launch the camera application, and use it to take images. I'm actually kind of glad that I took them off.

One of the best reviews i have seem for this case! My friend actually just got this case today and had the same problem with the magnetic charging port. They should have checked that out prior to release XD. Anyways, Solid review. Thanks granted

ok, this i was not expecting to hear. I figured since the buttons were there that it would be easier than cases that only had holes which means the button now sits flush with the case requiring a more conscious press. So when i saw a case that had rubber inserts i figured easier to push as they are sitting right on top of the real ones. I cant see why skinomi gets in the way of pressing buttons at all.
Why is it harder to push the buttons ? do the buttons not go in all the way, maybe they should have been a little more prominent.

Prominent lip is apparent. Bu there is a strip there as well. So i guess the grip comes from the rubber on the edges. Would have preferred an all rubber grip.

I attached a diagram I drew on how it works. The skinomi side guard kind of forces you to have to push a but more, that was already apparent for me for the volume and the camera shutter keys especially. I think that the bumper is also pushed out a bit more around the corners of the device, so the bumper isn't able to reach all the way, resulting in more of a need to push. The buttons on the bumper themselves are also feel a little hard as well, but I think that's just because of the side guard making me push more.

I did not realise the skinomi as you pictured it in the diagram could hold onto the buttons so much. How ? its just a bit of plastic with cutouts for the buttons to go through. Unless its so tight that the buttons face resistance going through. Skinomi must have contracted after you applied it so it literally grips the buttons tighter now.

The buttons don't really face resistance, in fact, they have plenty of room to operate. The issue is that when you push your finger down on it, because of the skinomi, you need to push your finger further for the button to register, it has a similar feeling as to the aluminum bumper case where you have to kind of reach further in, if you get what I am saying.

As I keep using this bumper, I'm getting used to pushing the buttons, and I'm actually liking it more and more. Grip may be an issue for some, but for me the rubber on the front and back are just fine. So long as you don't need access to the microSD or SIM card slot all of the time, and are willing to modify your magnetic cable a bit, I would definitely recommend the case. I'm sure there may be some more favorable options out there in the future, or maybe even now, but right now this is the only case that I really like, I have access to what I need, and it looks good.

Yes i do, you're saying skinomi is actually a lot thicker than it seems. This isn't apparent from the photo on their website. In fact i was wondering why would anyone pay so much when you could get a wet apply transparent protector for half that price. Well, sknimoi is prolly 2-3x thicker than the one i had in mind.
Skinomi I figured was good if you wanted a textured pattern rather than transparent. Now i realise since its so thick maybe its better than a thinner protector. though its overkill for the sides if you have a bumper.

This case looked attractive and functional at the same time. It tries to preserve the looks and has rounded edges rather then being blocky.
I guess durability is the question, will it last and not break easily. Given a choice between this case & a no name tpu, this one looks like it can handle a little more impact.
Grip is something i'm not sure about, more is better than less. I have not figured out what the minimum amount of grip is. But i think the Z1as it is, offers little. Sony decided looks are more important. This is why i preferred the ZL to the Z just because it felt really secure in the hand due to the textured back.

It isn't all that thick, however, just thick enough for it to be kind of an issue. I will say though that the skinomi protector I have applied to the backside gets really greasy, even if my hands are relatively clean.

The lip on the back actually helps quite a bit with the grip, however, this is mostly in landscape mode if you're watching a movie or something. The sides are smooth, however, its not really slippery in any way, as the natural moisture of my hands create a sort of friction. I actually don't see myself dropping it due to it slipping out of my hands at all, this may sound weird, but with the friction, the plastic part actually feels grippier than the rubber part, even.
Nice review, I'm tempted to get it now... from the pictures it seems the case makes it look quite bulky overall?
How thick is it with the case compared to the naked phone?

I actually have pretty small hands, so the Z1 without a case was already kind of big for me, and only slightly more with the case. Most of the bulk will come from the lip on the front and back of the case that keeps the screen/back from touching the surface of whatever you put the device on. Bulk on the sides isn't very much at all

First of all, I don't think I have ever seen a better way to ruin your xperia design, bravo.
Secondly, it is basically a sticker and therefor it should hold on the phone without any problems. (unless it's made out of paper (it is not, don't worry))
Thirdly seller lists item as durable and washable so there should be no problems connected to water contact..

Only fully body white case on the market is the Rhinoshield solidsuit. Everything else white are minimalist hard shell cases.
Took my old Spigen liquid clear tpu case and spray painted it white. Turned out way better than I thought.

I did a simple google search and came up with a bunch of them, not sure what you're talking about:
https://www.google.com/search?q=white+bodyshield+cases+pixel+3+xl
You can even get one with built in lights:

Not exactly white, more like marble, and really $70 USD?
https://www.google.com/search?q=white+bodyshield+cases+pixel+3+xl
first product search result link is not white. It is transparent case with white flower artwork
2nd result hit Not really white. They are black case with printed decals slapped on the back
skim through more search hits, there are very few if not only 1-2. Wouldn't call that a "bunch". I've done the search many times, there are not many to out there on the market for pixel 3 xl. I've searched through amazon, ebay, aliexpress.
Challenge you to link me 5-10 on amazon.com that is full body pure white like the Rhinoshield solid suit . They are like the only one readily available. Peelcase has a kind of white one made of recycled stuff, but not really true white. Looks like recycled paper.
As a white-case connoisseur, my educated guess, after owning a billion of them for a billion phones, is I suspect they're not the favorite to produce for manufactures. Rubber and TPU, favorite materials for phone cases, stain VERY easily, and white ones turn irreversibly blue from blue jeans after only a couple days. They probably get a lot of customer complaints/returns. I pretty much gave up on finding nice solid-white cases. Either they stain RAPIDLY, or are made of very hard materials which are either bulky as hell or thin with terrible coverage (insufficient lip to set the phone face down without the screen touching the surface).
Otterbox is the one!!!

Found one. I like it so far. We will see how easily it discolors or stain. https://imgur.com/a/AHRt4VC

Does if feel "sticky" like some silicon cases do? Is there a good lip preventing the screen from touching a surface?
TIA

It isn't sticky. Actually kind of slippery. Feels more like a soft touch plastic. Lip is minimal. Description says 1.2mm, but if you put a TGSP it might be flush.

those are half price on Ali, and the bottom opening has always been sharp for me. to be fair, i haven't used one since probably the og pixel, but I'd had may previously and they all were sharp against my pinky
These cases are amazing, and the protection is good, consider buying a better screen protector though, you get a free one, and you can tell its free, but its good until you can buy more expensive screen protector. Not white though, but i bet there will be.

There was a great Speck brand case few years ago, for like the iPhone 7 or something, it was White, with black little corners, looked super cool, but never saw it again for any other phone.
