Rear camera replaced now no work more :( - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I shattered the lens cover for the rear camera on my phone. Yes, the one time I had the case off and I have no idea how. Anyway point is I ordered a replacement, put it in, everything is lovely, turn it on and camera is just a black screen.. All the camera controls and stuff are there, but everything is black. When I start the camera, I get a toast message that the firmware is updating but nothing ever happens. I have cleared dalvik, cleared cache and data for the camera app. Any ideas guys?
Here is where I ordered the part http://www.fixez.com/products/samsung/samsung-galaxy-s4/samsung-galaxy-s4-rear-camera-replacement

Cool I'll try that

Broken Camera on CM7 7.0.3.1

If anyone has encountered this or knows of a fix, please help me!
My camera app (as well as other apps that use the camera, such as Google goggles) are not functioning properly. The camera on the phone is making a noise as if it is opening and shutting, and the picture on the phone is blinking on and off. To top it off, the apps start to freeze when this happens, which makes me think that the app is having problems initializing the camera, and it may not be just an app issue. It also has the same problem with the front camera, so both back and front are doing the same thing.
Any ideas guys and gals? I could really use some help here, I rely on the camera multiple times during the day at my job, so I need it to function.

is it the speaker in the phone making a shutter noise or the physical camera? im pretty sure there are no moving parts in either cameras..

Polarized camera?

In running cm7 newest update and my rear camera looks like its polarized is anyone else having this issue or is this more likely a hardware problem

Try to clear the cache on it the camera app from the menu if that doesn't work push on your camera lens if it fixes it then its hardware .
Well if it happened after you just did an update, its likely that update is the problem. Flash a nandroid from the previous version you were running and see if it's still there.
Try physically pushing the camera in with moderate pressure and see if that helps. Sometimed they come slightly unseated.

The glass on the camera does not have a polarizing filter on it, if that's what you're asking. If it's taking pictures as if it was going through a polarizer then you've got some real weirdness going on with your camera.
Edit: No idea if it's a software or hardware issue, could be either one or both honestly. Can you show some examples of what it's doing?
Well when I entered my cam app the camera looks like I turned the polarize skin on but the ffc is perfectly fine. I've rebooted three times and its still doing it. I haven't flashed anything in about a week it just randomly started doing this... if one more reboot doesn't work I'm gonna try leaving the battery out for an hour or two hopefully that fixes it. I wiped the cam cache and restored default settings. I also tried pressing the cam slightly and that's not the issue. As far as being dislodged or loose that's not the issue. I think its either something inside the cam or just a weird bug in the app itself. Thanks for the tips ill check back in an hour or two with a status update.

Again, rebooting will NOT fix this issue. You need to re-flash a nandroid from before you updated. Or, better yet, flash a stock rom and see if it works in there. Constantly rebooting will not fix this issue, as its either a problem with the cam software, or the hardware. You can easily rule out software by flashing a stock rom.
@sitlet
I didn't flash an update ... plus anyway good news! I left the phone off with battery removed for about 8 hours and now my camera works perfect again! Don't really know what caused it to happen just glad its done with! And hope it doesn't happen again! (Knocks on wood)

i know what your talking about its happened to me before happened to me due to a strong magnet being close to the lens(worked at walmart and Electronics keys have strong magnets) basically before i took the picture it seemed like i had the polarized filter on but it really wasnt had to take the phone in for repair
@djnarcotics
Exactly! However it keeps coming back so I'm taking my phone to sprint on Friday my deposit plus insurance should be able to replace my phone wouldn't mind a new evo or evo shift

I was having the same issue, I had to press on it kinda hard and it clicked a little bit then it started working. I was having the exact same issue pushing on it worked. I was just nervous about pushing on it too hard , I didn't want to break it.

M8 Rear camera black screen
My M8 has the same problem. When you launch the stock Camera app it crashes on opening.
I reset Camera app data, cleared cache. The camera app will open, but only to the front facing selfie camera. The rear camera can sometimes be accessed, but the rear camera will just show a black screen.
I installed and launched the Google Camera app. The Google Camera opens to the front facing selfie camera. When you select the rear camera the image is upside down and the axiis are reversed, when you pan the camera left the upside down screen pans right.
Factory reset did not correct the problem.

Camera broken

OK I dunno why but I can't upload pictures in Tapatalk anymore without getting a force close. So no screenshot. Anyways last couple weeks my camera has been broken at least when using Google camera. Have tried disabling security and trusted face, uninstalled updates and reinstalled Google camera, enabling all permissions I can, wiping cache, and today a factory reset yet the same problem, hit the icon, black screen and ui lag for 10 seconds then a window pops up that says "error can't connect to camera". What really make's no sense is I tried downloading open camera and it work's fine. Seems like it takes about 10 seconds to fire up but it work's fine. I'm running pure stock, no root, MRA58V. Anything else I could try? Thanks!

Well go ahead and add reflash factory image to the list of things that didn't work... Sigh

Well I figured it out. My front camera is busted. Open camera works fine with the rear but the front camera says it can't connect. Who ever heard of a front camera going bad

Front Facing Camera not working / causes camera app to crash

All,
I noticed yesterday when attempting to use the front facing camera that I get only a black screen, the camera app switches back to rear camera for a moment, then the app closes.
I am not sure when this became an issue as I'm not a selfie kind of guy. The rear camera continues to function just fine.
I have tried the following fixes
wipe data in the camera app
wipe user data
uninstall / reinstall camera update
boot into safe mode
uninstall / reinstall app that utilize the camera
None of the "fixes" have resolved the problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion where to head next?
Phone is S-Off, unlocked, rooted, and running the latest stock ROM.
Should I just say f-it and try a different ROM?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Update: I flashed LeeDroid ROM this morning and the front facing camera is still not working. Looks like it could be a hardware issue...

yah, that's what it looks like. hope you have warranty.
I have the same issue. Previously when I pressed the swirly-arrows button it tried to switch then locked up and wouldn't do anything until I restarted. Now when I press the button it just spins around and nothing happens. I used catlog reader to find some errors being logged. I posted a thread about it if you're interested.
