[Q] 4.4.2 is driving me insane - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Anyone else have the issue when accepting or placing a call the screen goes completely bat **** crazy? Screen turns off with a stutter and then never turns back on unless you wait for 10 secs and then gotta try to unlock it 4 times before it'll finally come up? And I'm talking about my phone went 98% full retard during every episode it has. Didn't occur until I flaahed my first kitkat ROM.

Maybe you're talking about the phone screen turning off during call because proximity sensor? Happens to me often. Even when I'm Skyping from my phone, if I put anything near the proximity sensor, turns the screen off and takes forever to turn back on. Same with phone calls. Not sure how to turn off the proximity sensor.. Does more harm than good.. Got me at least.

Under call settings there is an option to turn off the proximity sensor but it does not work with Skype though.

Screen off after headset call ends.

Every time I end a call while on a headset, whether bt or wired, and using the phone while talking, the screen shuts off. I don't remember this happening on other phones. Is there a setting for this? If so I can't find it anywhere.

Can you elaborate a bit more? Does it just time out? Is it off at the end of the call, and you can't make it come back on?
Your phone will use the proximity sensor, when it's within proximity of your face. Aside from that, it will use the set screen timeout settings. If this is a timeout issue, change those settings, under your display options
If this is an issue with the proximity sensor, and the screen not turning back on as the call ends, then simply place your hand over the the sensor and remove it. The screen will turn back on.
I mean if I'm playing a game while on a call with a headset, whether bt or wired, and the call ends the screen turns off. Even though I'm playing a game or browsing, what ever. The screen turns back on fine, just annoying and inconvenient interruption to what ever I'm doing.

Same thing happens to me, but not all the time. Like when I am listening to a message and wants to press 7 to erease it and I find the display does not turn on as it should. I think this could be a bug related to the proximity sensor.

sort of annoying but I just hit the volume keys to get the screen back on...
I guess the most annoying situation, and this happened last night. Using navigator, I took a call on my bt headset, hung up the call and not only did it not return to my nav screen it immediately turned off.
I don't know if this is a bug or a setting, maybe a build.prop thing?

Still doing it with ICS, I was hoping that something would change.

I can't pull up screenshots on my phone while I'm at work but in Application Settings under Development there should be an option to "Stay Awake" while on charger...it comes in handy when using Navigator/Waze. Downside; On GB it tends to overheat the battery but simply pressing the Power/Lock key will override the settings and turn off the screen.

That won't fix the problem of the phone going off after a call ends though. Every time a call ends my screen turns off, even of I'm using it during a call.

Anyone experiencing this? This is really the only that I don't like on the SXI so far. Is there anything in the build.prop that could change this ?
This just ticks me off.
Sent from Rooted LT28at with ICS.
Looks like I fixed it by adding the following tweak to the build.prop:
#
#Disable blackscreen issue
#
ro.lge.proximity.delay=25
mot.proximity.delay=25
I had to edit the build.prop through Flashtool, none of the on-device editors would save the changes.
It fixed speaker phone, but not headphone issue.

Can anyone confirm that I'm not the only one with this happening?
I think it happens across the board. Maybe it is not as annoying for people to complaint - myself included. Although it would be nice if there is a fix.

This happens to me, although less with newly flashed JB. I might have to check my plastic protector too...

Anything makes the LED besides the front facing camera stay continuously ON?

Today I noticed a dimly lit red light from the second dot to the left of the front camera staying continuously on even when the display is turned off. I am not mentioning about the notification light that is placed to the left side. I tried many options but it stayed dimly lit. Later I thought of restarting the device and that did turn it off. This did show up as bright red for a moment when I turned on the device which later turned off.
Any idea what made it stay continuously on?

I was having similar problem with gs3,turned out to be viber I guess...uninstall it and report again.
I don't have the viber app installed. By the way what is this led called and what is its function?
Thanks
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
If its not the proper led then it must be proximity sensor(uses infrared light to detect proximity)
Normally turns on when u get a call to turn of screen when u hold close to your face.if its not viber then it might be what's app or Skype god knows what(may be try freezing phone apps one by one and find out for yourself)
Its not a bug or anything. Its meant to stay lit this way because its a proximity sensor.
turn off smart stay and anything else you might not need and it will go away
turn this off by go - Setting>Motion> Quick Glance: untick :good:
As I said it went off by restarting. I don't have the problem now to check any solution. Just was curious to know what was it.
While it was on, it stayed on even during the call or even when the display was turned off. I did not have any motion setting enabled.
Thanks everyone for your kind replies. I will see if I get the problem again
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I noticed that too, then I realized what was causing this. It's the Quick Glance function on "Motion" that's triggering this, because while the screen is off the phone's proximity sensor checks whether or not you have your hand in front of the screen for activating Quick Glance. In order to do that, the sensor must continously stay on, hence the continous red light.

[Q] galaxy note 2 on tmobile sgh-t889 screen turn off during call and stay off

I just got my note 2 on ebay, phone looks new , came with all the plastic attached and all.
Works good too. But. When I am on the call the screen turns off, which is ok, but it should turn on if I take the phone from my ear, and if I press power button. It dose not do that. The screen stays off untill the other party hang up. Any know issues like that, any fixes?

Rooting is not a solution. I like stock rom , at least for now.
I wish to keep it @Stock if possible. Unless rooting is the only way to fix it
Not sure if you have already done this but you can try rebooting the phone? It may be a one off issue.

an update FYI
Restart did not solve the issue, but I have found the setting to disable screen off during call so this will do for now
Omg I have the SAME EXACT PROBLEM and it annoys me SO MUCH. Sometimes I place a phone call and the other party goes to voicemail and i CANT hang up because my screen DOESN'T turn back on at all while its recording minutes of voicemail until I pull the battery. I have disabled the screen off thing and i usually just press the power button when i'm placing a call so the screen shuts off and i can actually turn it back on. One trick i learned is try to place the phone call without your face next to the phone right away. Wait until it starts dialing and/or someone picks up. Another "fix" to the problem is dialing and pressing speakerphone which I think worked for me.
I think it is a problem with the proximity sensor but I'm not sure. When the problem happens to me I always notice the proximity sensor is lit up red if you look closely, and I have tried pressing all button combinations but nothing has fixed the problem
Same issue here. If I move phone away from my ear during call screen is still off. Most of the time it's fixable by just covering the sensors with your thumb for 2 seconds and then the screen will show back up. Hope I helped

I got my phone couple of weeks ago and everyhing was ok until last night when my phone did same thing you all describe. It is brand new note 2 purchased from Tmobile with untouched stock rom.
What happened? And how do you deactivate screen off when holding phone at your ear?

Are your motion settings enabled?
I am curious, why u guys didn't contact Samsung and ask them about the problem. Plus, I noticed all of you guys have brand new phones so it is still under manufacture warranty. Also, the good thing is all of you have stock ROM and your flash counter is 0. So just contact them and send it to them. Most probably you will get another brand new phone from Samsung it self :victory:
Did disabling the auto screen off solve the problem?

I have the exact same problem here. With all these months, one has to wonder why there's no real fix for this.
But could you please clarify your post a bit for me as something isn't clear. to me.
I read that you turned off the auto screen off (proximity sensor off) option. What's not clear to me, is did that in fact work, to where the screen just stays on without going out at all? Or does it still go out?
I've disabled mine, but I don't use the phone much, so it will take a while to figure out if this worked or not.
Thanks in advance.
Mine doesn't work either. I'm on custom rom. In the call my screen just blacks out. I installed some sensor apps and literally my proximity sensor don't work unless there are a crap ton of light shining on it.

My proximity / light sensor seems to work properly but also sometimes seems to stick. I just do this
1) Open the phone dialer
2) Hit menu and select 'call settings'
3) Uncheck "auto screen off during calls"
I know it doesnt technically fix the sensor issue but now you should be able to use the power button to turn the screen off / on during calls. Works for me anyway. Hope that helps!

Ouch. Ive never used aokp. I could definitely see how it could be a pain. If your sensor is acting up, sadly, you might have to swap to another rom. Jedi series are nice and do have the ability to disable the screen off on call feature.

I fixed mine!! i had same issue with my Galaxy note 2. I blew the top earpiece grill a few times and Voila, it works great now.
Ok I guess an updat is in order.
Since my posting. I have been running ok, with no issues what so ever. With the incall auto off sceen set to off my phone is working well. The screen do go off based on the power saving rules (one minute) but I cba get it back up with power button. So all is working. The prox. Sensor works for all other apps I think.

Hey guys, I had the same issue with my new note 2. I used some canned air on my top ear piece and the issue seemed to be resolved!
Thank you.
I had the problem with Jedi x20
then I went to stock and had the same problem randomly but not always... Dunno why!

Proximity Sensor

So I've been having this proximity sensor issue where the screen doesn't turn back on during a call. Funny thing is while on a call the *#0*# menu shows the Proximity Sensor is working fine. Air Gestures on the browser while on a call work fine. Only Z Device app and Phone app are having issues with the Proximity Sensor.
I have also noticed that if I press the Home Button to turn screen on, the Prox Sensor doesn't turn the screen off. I have to go to the Home Screen and return to the Call and then the Prox Sensor turns to screen off for me but not back on when I move the phone away.
Called Tmobile and they suggested a Hard Reset. Told them I did already. I actually Odin'd the stock MDL and Triangle Away. Reflashed stock MDL again and still have the issue. It's finicky because sometimes it works fine.
But I do have to say. After Odin'n the MDL a few times, the phone just flies. No lag whatsoever, even without Developer Mode.
So Tmobile said the S4 is on back order for 3 days. Hopefully I'll get a new phone. If not, try again until they give me an HTC One or Xperia Z.
Anyone else have the issue?

I had this issue. It was a faulty proximity sensor. I needed a warranty replacement
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.
Thats what I figured. I have one coming. Hopefully the backorder means I'll get a new one instead. I wonder I complain about having to wait they would switch me to another phone.
