Hi,
I just purchased a Note 2 N7105T outright. I want to change the firmware to either an Optus firmware or unbranded version.
Can someone please guide me on how to do this?
Cheers,
layziebone
Hi mate, you can swap ROMs but the antenna is not going to work as well between N7105T & N7105 as the T version is tuned for 850mhz 3G while non-T is tuned for 900mhz / 2100mhz 3G.
Interestingly enough I have a N7105 (Optus ROM) that I use on Telstra. I would much prefer the T / Telstra version.
Perhaps we could do a trade, I can see that you are also in Melbourne. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Hi guys,
Planning to buy the m8 and root it. But should I be specific on the variants?
Im not from the US (The Philippines) so Most likely not gonna get atnt, sprint etc.
So my options are:
The international model
Emea (a friend of mine is selling his but it was bought in riyad, KSA)
Or the asian version (s801 2.5ghz)
Do they have like different model nos.? Different ruus / rom versions etc?
Had a bad experience when i bought a phone (m7 sprint wls) before, since im not from the us. Had limited roms available compared to the international version
Your input would really help
Sent from my HTC One
I would agree that you should not get a US variant. For one thing, they will be SIM locked. Another thing, the Sprint and Verizon versions are CDMA. Different software, and possibly different hardware (although its been discussed here, and not clear - but I would err on the side of caution and assume the hardware is different). So if your area does not use CDMA I would stay away from those variants.
All GSM versions, be aware that they can all be converted to another carrier variant once bootloader unlocked and S-off. So as long as you avoid the CDMA versions, you are good for ROMs.
I would suggest the version that supports your local 3G and LTE bands out of the box. But again, as long as you are willing to s-off the phone, you can change that in software. So if that is the case, I would just go with the best deal.
From what I understand, the Asian version is the same as any other GSM version, just with a slight overclock.
Well if you do go with a us carrier Verizon has the best coverage and thier phones are :not: sim locked. You can use them with any carrier anywhere. My second choice would be t-mobile

The OP is from the Philippines. They aren't going to use a US carrier.
I would advise against CDMA variants for the reasons already mentioned.

Thanks guys, I just want to be clear, so if I use a Rom or RUU on a GSM variant, as long as Im'm on S-Off / Unlocked Bootloader and/ or on SuperCID. I could use any Rom ./ RUU from different GSM variants (I checked the rooting guide for the M8 and is similar to the M7, so as far as unlocking the bootloader / root that I have an idea).
Do they have different RUUs at all??

Yes.
Aside from the CDMA RUUs, which I wouldn't try on a GSM version unless you read definitive advice elsewhere that its ok.

Only US versions have RUU, that I know of.
Yes you're right.
I thought all has ruus on it. But with supercid i could use any nandroid backup right? As long as its gsm
I think I will go for the Asian version (wwe right? Cause it has a higher clockspeed and updated s801) And go supercid and use international (gsm) roms. Will that work?

I believe that will work, yes.
WWE just means "world wide English". I think it refers to the Euro version.
Hi folks,
I have tried searching but couldn't find the answer so apologies if this is covered before.
I have a 32GB HTC One M8 which I bought from Canada. I am in UK and now looking to get a 4G contract however it turns out that the phone frequency is not compatible with 4G network here..
I have read a thread here talking about adding all frequencies but I don't want to root the phone.
Is there anyway I can flash a UK unbranded firmware? Will it add the UK frequencies or is it built in the hardware.
Please advise
Radio support is mostly software based on this phone. You can flash radios between most M8 versions (aside from the Taiwan M8x, dual SIM and possible the Verizon/Sprint CDMA versions).
But modding the phone (s-off) is required to access the radio partition. You can't touch this partition without s-off. Along those same limitations, you can't flash firmware from another version unless you s-off.
You'll need to S-OFF and Root to flash(Convert) your device.
S-OFF to convert it
Root to change the MID/CID to a UK variant.
Even this: Unlock all bands of your Qualcomm device! Use your phone globally! needs Root and "hopefully" it'll work.
As for hardware, it should work anywhere as long as you have the correct radio I would think. Given the "front end solution" that came with the snapdrago 801 to make it a "global" device. I think changes to radio for various carriers are software related and not hardware.
Can read up more on those things yourself though, RF360 Front End Solution for the Snapdragon 801.
Just get S-OFF and convert your device, LTE should work then. Can't recall anyone with a converted device complaining that it didn't work =o/
Brill.. thanks for the response folks.. so if I s-off it all I need to do Change the CID and flash the UK unbranded firmware through the bootloader?

You'll have to make sure both the CID and MID matches the firmware you're about to flash then.
If you bought it in Canada then I think the model ID will probably be something like 0P6B16000 (I think I read in Scotty's MID thread that Wind Canada might be 0P6B13000) either way, you'll probably need 0P6B10000 (European Unlocked and pretty much every European variant).
Cheers for all the input folks
Ended up selling the phone..
bought a new phone now from Vodafone and now got another task. Will start a thread about it.

Hi guys, I end up in this post. I have an Euro M8 unbranded, unblocked. I dont care to be root or s-off. How can I change the LTE to have LTE band 4(1700/2100) and band 28(700). Is possible?

Answered your other post in the "Help" thread.
Please don't make multiple posts asking the same question.
So.... I'm ready to go S Off and change from Euro unbranded to AT&T in order to get the band 4. Before to proceed, does someone already made this procedure?
Any experiences to share?

Hi!
I just S-offed my T-mobile M8 today. Just have a question regarding LTE bands. I'm from the Philippines. I've noticed that my M8 variant is not compatible with the LTE bands supported by the carriers here in my country. I've done my research and saw that the T-Mobile M8 variant uses LTE bands 4 (1700/2100) and 17 (700). My carrier here operates at LTE Band 1 (2100) which is why I can only reach HSPA signal here. So is it possible for me to flash an asian firmware w/ radio update on my device so that I can access LTE connectivity here? If not, is there any other way to do so?
Thank you.

Yes.
Be sure to pick a firmware that supports not just your carrier's LTE band(s) but HSPA also, for full compatibility.
Also be sure to stick to the proper software version. You're most likely on Lollipop software, so only flash a Lollipop version firmware.
Depending on whether the firmware has been hacked, you may need to change your CID and MID to match the firmware.

I see. Thank you. Would you happen to know a thread or repository where I can download the latest Asian firmware? I've searched the forums but found outdated ones.
I've already superCID my M8 and just flashed the GPE firmware that came with the stock Marshmallow ROM. So does this mean, if I want to flash official firmware, I will need to change both my CID and MID to match that of the firmware?

If you give a CID or CIDs for the Asian version (or bettter yet, the correct software number), I may be able to find the firmware.

If its official, YES it will check CID and MID.
Some firmwares may be hacked to remove these checks, or include a longer list of "acceptable" MIDs and CIDs. I believe the GPE firmware your refer to is hacked in one of those ways.
But official firmwares will always check CID and MID.
Hello there guys, im wondering if it is possible to unlock a band from my htc one m8 from at&t, i live in venezuela and my current company (Digitel) the 3g band is 900, but this phone only have the 3g band on 850, my question is can i unlock this by any chances because is annoying that my phone is from E to 4G and manually i can even recive calls when its 4G and it wont change to 3g
(sorry about my english)
You need s-off by sunshine (if not s-off already). Then you can flash another version's radio/firmware to enable the desired band(s).
May also need to change CID and MID (after s-off) if the firmware is signed.

According to the following specs, Euro or Asia firmware should support 3G 900 MHz: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_(m8)-6074.php
Although, keep in mind you should also verify the LTE (4G) band used by the carrier is also supported by the version's firmware you pick. You didn't state what band your carrier uses for LTE.
Also, it should be kept in mind, anytime you purchase a phone from a 3rd party source (other than your carrier) you need to do the proper research to verify the device actually supports your carrier's network. You're lucky this time (if you get the proper bands working). This is the first smartphone chipset that allows band support to be changed in software. On previous smartphones (and may also be true on other current smartphones using other chipsets), band support was set in hardware, meaning there is no way to change it.

thanks, my carrier uses band 3 (1800MHz) for LTE and for 3g uses band 8 (900MHz) so what firmware do you recommend?

Same as I've already stated, EMEA (Euro) or Asia supports both those bands.
EMEA is a very common (probably most common) version on this forum, so that may be your best bet as far as ease of getting the files, fellow user support, etc.

NO. The Developer version is US, not Euro or Asia. Why do you think the Dev Edition has the bands you want, or corresponds to the Euro or Asia versions?
The Dev Edition has the exact same band support as the AT&T version, so this is the exact opposite of what you want (doesn't have the bands you want).
Euro firmware is probably what I would recommend (as previously stated), and can be found on the following threads (as well as other places):

Try the SIM in another phone, if possible, to see if it works on 3G on another device.
Also, be sure the APN info for your carrier is properly entered. Double check and triple check every input to make sure every single character is correct. Even a single added space or missing character can prevent you from getting data properly.
