[Q] where to find correct firmware/rom for my Tab 3 8.0 Wifi Only - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 Wifi only, model SM-T3100ZWYXAR. I bought it here in the USA. The stock version does not contain a vietnamese language. I want to get a "firmware" or "rom", I dunno what, that have the vietnam language AND the english language firmware. I dunno, a SE Asian region or Vietnam region if there is one. Problem is I'm new to Samsung and don't know exactly how to do it, if there is instructions, great. I also don't know which and where to download the ftf or firmware or rom. I also want the original with my stock if I want to flash it back. I download the ODIN which I think is the tool to do it.
I do have several Sony Xperias phones and do know/ have experience how to flash the ftf to the phones. Is it similar in any way?
What is the difference between firmware and ROM? Are they the same, is ROM is regularly used here cause almost nobody mentions firmware and that's why I got confused?
over on the Xperia forums, I almost never heard of the words ROM used, but that is because I was only looking for firmwares.
If successful, I'm planning to purchase another Tab but with 3G or 4G LTE model and hope to flash a firmware/rom with VN and ENG language into those as well. So is there a thread with all firmwares/rom in one as I see it scatter everywhere. [
btw, do I need to root or unlock bootloader to do this? If so, some instructions would be nice.

Is this what you are looking for? The T3100 is 3g and the T3110 is WiFi. At least that is what the Sammobile site is saying.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=27167
Here is the link for the firmware. Just enter SM-T310 or SM-T311 in the search field.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
ROM and Firmware are interchangeable terms. You do not need to root to flash (load) OEM Rom with ODIN. Just make sure you follow instructions. They literally are all over this site.

thank you, now I know what to look for.

To be safe and to prevent stumbling blocks., first download and install 'Samsung Kies' to your PC..
that will install the drivers needed for Odin to communicate with your Samsung device.
Now you dont USE Kies... just install it and once installed, dont use it when you run Odin..
just run Odin only..then download your new firmware to your tab.
Good luck and write back if you run into a snag.

ok, I finally found the firmware I wanted to try out (SINAPORE, hopefully they have English AND Vietnamese language. took a while to install it via rapidgator.
But just realize I don't have the instructions to flash it. can someone send me links for the instructions to flash firmware for Galaxy Tab 3?
Fyi, I have download XSP-T310XWUAMG3-20130801161200.zip and install KIES, Odin. what else I need?

Read this several times before you actually perform the flash. This way if you have a question you can ask.

Yes, PDA is the correct location. When you say you tried but didn't work, can you be more specific? Please list exactly what you did to the detail. Then we can see if you missed a step or you added/deleted something or whatever.

ok so I
0) Ensure the tablet is at least 50% charged and is turned off. mine was 80%
1) Installed KIES, Odin 3.07, open Odin 3.07, Samsung USB driver for Mobile Phones.
2) Download the correct stock firmware
3) went to Download/Odin mode on Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, POWER BUTTON + VOLUME DOWN, then VOLUME UP to confirm.
4) Connect USB from PC to Galaxy Tab.
5) tick/checked PDA click on PDA, find md5 file.
6) Start.
then I waited, but it always FAILED, three times. what did I do wrong. Also I installed Odin 3.09, but none of the malware it came with. but I don't see Odin 3.09 anywhere. Where can I download the correct 3.09?

When you executed Odin 3.07, did you right-click and Run as Administrator?
After connecting the device to the PC, AND, before you hit start, did your Odin 3.07 screen look like the attached image?
Blue box in ID:COM with 0:[COMx] where x is a com port number.
Was KIES running (should not have been)
Auto Reboot unchecked (not important for OEM Rom)
All the text in the messages box
Check mark to the left of the PDA box
File name in the PDA box ending in MD5
The most important is the blue box that says 0:[COMx]. If that is not present then you cannot upload the file to your device.
Your Odin 3.09 went to C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\Temp

Yes, I'm sure the 0:[COMx] was present when I did try it, And I didn't uncheck the Auto-Reboot box, maybe I should? only that and F. Reset Time was checked
Also, does the md5 have to be in a specific folder? Mine was just on the desktop. does it matter if I use 3.07 or 3.09 Odin?
And just to make sure, I need to have my tablet in Odin/Download mode before I proceed, correct? before I connect the usb.

Auto-Reboot can be checked or unchecked for the OEM Rom. If you install one of the other developer roms then is should be unchecked.
My recovery files (OEM Rom) are located in a folder two levels deep. I makes no difference where the files are located. So you don't need to fret over that detail. I am not 100% sure about the differences between Odin 3.07 and 3.09, so that question I cannot answer. I personally use Odin 3.07 even though I have 3.09 on my computer.
Yes, first place the tablet in download mode (vol down and power, then vol up), connect cable, open Odin 3.0x as Administrator and verify connectivity, add MD5 file to PDA, press start.
One thing I think might be important is to extract the MD5 file from the zip file and place it somewhere you can access, like your desktop (as you have it). Do not leave it in the zip folder, and, do not try and load the zip folder. I do not think Odin will let you do that but I just want to make sure that you are not trying that.
There is just one thing that I am also not sure. In the original post you said you have the "T310 WiFi only" tab (shouldn't that be T311 Wifi) and it looks like you are trying to load the T310 3G version firmware. That might be a reason it is failing. This is just a guess but you might want to download the T311 OEM Rom and try that. Match your firmware with that of the OEM. Just a thought. Please confirm your product and your firmware.

Thanks. I thought it should've restart by itself, but I guess I was wrong. It was scary, though, I know how easy it is to screw it up and brick your device. good thing is. IT WORKS! SUCCESS! now I have the language I wanted, Vietnamese language in the Singapore firmware.
Since I succeeded, I'll go ahead with the SM-T217T Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 4G LTE (T-Mobile USA). I just realized that the SM-T217T is USA T-Mobile only. Can I flash other SM-T217(_) and it'll still work? the 3G/4G LTE?

I think that you shoould ONLY flash firmware that was designed for YOUR particular model.
Hardware is different for each model, and you can (will) brick real fast by flashing different models FW on a certain device.
Stick with your model number.
You may want to ask T-Mobile how to get the Vietnamese language on their device.
They may just be able to tell you how to D?L the language pak for it.
Good luck

Well, I guess I'm stuck at a road block with the SM-T217T Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (T-Mobile USA). Would rooting help? I can tried apps like More Locale, but I don't think it's any luck, since I tried and failed with the Tab 3 8.0.
But at least I succeeded in flashing the correct firmware I wanted on my SM-T310 Tab 3 8.0 Wifi only.
Thank you all for your help.

[Q] Probably deleted system fonts. Phone won't start.

I posted this question few days ago but did not receive any reply (expect from one person) since I did not provide enough detail.
Stucked on boot screen (the one that we usually see first with white letters). I did factory reset but I am still stucked on Galaxy S boot screen. I heard the default galaxy S sound but did not see the big 'S'. When I press Volume down + Home + Power , I just see a big triangle which says 'Downloading...do not turn off target'. This means that I can go into the download mode.
I installed odin3 and installed .512 PIT file as well as JP3 firmware from here
HTML:

.
After connecting my phone with my computer, odin recognizes my phone since I see something like 0:[COM6] in Odin. Please guide me from hereon. Any help will be much appreciated.
Should I click on 'start'? Is it safe?...Just need some motivation and guidance to do this.
NOTE: I was using gscript o change system fonts. Probably deleted system fonts. Then, I restored back to system and since then phone would not start. Well, it starts but I am stucked on this screen.
I am using Samsung galaxy S vibrant (Bell, canada [GT-I900M])
Don't use .512 PIT file with JP3, you have to use .513 instead. Using 512 won't work. Just get JP3, load it up in Odin, then connect your phone to your PC in download mode. Once its recognized by Odin, click the start button and wait for everything to be done automatically by Odin.

Just selecting the .512 PIT file and not ticking Re-Partition will do nothing.
Anyways, its your choice.

[Q] rooted Note 2 L900 rom issue

I just got the Galaxy note 2 L900. It is rooted and modified for international using. It works perfect and I was about to explore the Jelly bean 4.2.2 several times but later the battery felt out (phone has no back cover). I inserted the battery back and booted but it only started then stopped at xiaomi.com logo and the phone was frozen as brick with no control at all.
So how could I recover the custom ROM. I have never done this and I really need help. Thank you you all.
Are you able to get the device into Download mode? When turning the device on hold the power button, vol down, and the home button and the device should enter download mode.

Thank you. I did this before I posted this matter but the question is which files I need to download and where I can find these files? Is is in the phone already? as I said I have never done this before.
If you can get into Download mode you can ODIN any ROM you would like to the device and fix the not booting problem. You can re-flash the ROM you were using if you choose. You would need to find an ODIN tar file to use this option to get your device working again.

Thanks again for your reply. It must be easier for me if I do the rooting or flashing of this phone from the beginning. I would read and following instruction step by step but right now it likes I am right in the middle of the jungle and really don't know where I should start. I looked for "ODIN tar file" and one link lead me to download the "odin multi downloader v3 95 exe.rar" but I found in here many files to download and one of these files is "Root mobile ODIN Pro v3 65 full" is the only file close to what I am looking for but I am not sure this is the file I need. I really needed help on this matter. You are the only one who replied my question and I believe that you can help. I wonder that you could text and help me through this matter. I would appreciate this. Thank you again

Send me the service provider you use and I will see if I can find an ODIN flashable ROM for your device. I can link you to the download and we can go from there. The first part though is finding a flashable image.

I have no idea. This phone has bad ESN and was modified for international using so it has a SIM card port now for GSM network (that the seller told me). I just have this phone in 2 day only and as I said I just played with in about 1 hours to see what options the phone could provide before the battery felt out issue. I not sure it can be use with ATT or Tmobile when it has bad ESN. I didn't tried it. I bought it on ebay for my cousin in Vietnam (price cheaper to Good ESN). So I guess it must be best for an ODIN flashable ROM for gsm network. Thank you.
The phone might not have a bad ESN it just might not be recognizing a network due to an invalid SIM or no SIM at all. The phone might work and find a network if a good SIM is put into the device. The first thing I would do though is find a stock image that is for a GSM phone. You can attempt to find out what service provider your cousin is going to use but to be honest it really does not matter with a GSM carrier and a phone that does not have SIM card restrictions which I am sure this one does not. You can look for a flashable image for Docomo, AT&T, or some other GSM provider. That will at least get you into the device so you can check out the options. You could always contact the person you got the device from and see what ROM they had installed and go back with that. Just a few suggestions.

So why we don't try Tmobile (I am using Ptel and Ptel base on Tmobile). IF it works on Tmobile then it can be unlocked later. (but I am sure the seller he told this phone has bad ESN)
Thank you.
From what I have found T-Mobile did not put out the Galaxy Nexus device. There is an option that you can try though. You can use the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit to flash stock images through ODIN and root any build you choose to use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
Check out this thread for the download. The toolkit provides step by step instructions when you are performing the various actions. You will need to manually boot into download mode like you did before in order to use the ODIN feature in the toolkit. Make sure you select a stock/factory image for a GSM device.

Wow. It seems too complicated. I downloaded and installed the Galaxy Nexus toolkit with GSM model 4.2.2 JDQ39 Build
in the menu it says: install/uninstall device driver on your PC [unplug device first] and many other instructions after that
But my question is where I should start from which application? I open the Galaxy Nexus toolkit folder and there are many applications in there. Should I use the Odin3_v3.07 to begin?
Do you know any "step by step instruction from the beginning"? I don't even know how to use the Odin3_v3.07 yet.
No there should be something in the ToolKit forlder named ToolKit.exe and that is what you want to open. All commands are run through the toolkit and when running it will look like a command prompt window with number options that you will type in. Commands will be displayed on the screen and you just type in the corresponding number to select options. The on screen instructions will tell you what to do at each step.

I did come to the prompt window and enter the option 1 : Install/Uninstall Device Driver on your PC (checked and saw driver on toolkit). Then reboot the phone (I guess in fastboot mode but holding vol down power and home keys) but I cannot get the serial number as show in the instruction and the phone show no activity at all. I checked toolkit and did see the USB connected Did I do something wrong?
There is a note in the command prompt window: make sure your device is booted fully into android. (how I am sure the phone is fully boot into android)
Please advice. Thank you
All the options that are listed that say booted into Android your not going to be able to use. You should be able to use any option that says via ODIN in the name of the option. When the toolkit attempts to reboot the phone and wait for fastboot you should be good if you are already in Download mode. You might have the option to flash a stock ROM via ODIN. If so that will at least get you into the phone and you can use other options in the toolkit from that point.

I tried most of the options but I could not get any control of phone in download mode. EX: I click on option 11: boot or flash .img file to device then it prompted "file not found." Other options I only message "waiting for the device" but there was nothing happen then.
I researched for the flashing the phone from beginning again but it seems nothing works for the bricked phone.

Pull the battery, wait 10 seconds. Put battery back in and press Vol. Down, Home (Middle button) and Power until you see a warning come on the screen. Press Up and you should see a picture of an Android with "Downloading" and "Odin Mode" in the upper left corner.
Once here try flashing via Odin again. If it's really a Sprint Note 2 I still suggest the MC2 Unrooted Restore to give yourself a clean slate.

OK Here are what I did:
open toolkit at command window with many options and I have chosen options:
*** 17 for GSM model adroid 4.2.2
*** 25 for USA GSM model adroid 4.2.2
and even tried ***45 CDMA LTE model adroid 4.2.2 (when I tried I did notice some downloaded files on command window and this is the only activity I have notice in entire procedure but after file is downloaded it returned to main menu and nothing happened then.
When I choose option 17 or 25 or 45 I got into the same menu with many of fastboot , ADB mode... options. As I said I tried most of these but nothing works.
you said try flashing via Odin again. I tried to locate the MC2 Unrooted Restore but could not find it. Please advice. Thanks

1) Download this file:

3) Set phone into Odin mode as previously posted.
4) Connect USB cable to PC, open EXE in Odin-OC folder.
Once shows connected, click Start.
That should get you going. If you still have problems let me know.

Cool. Thank you very much. You are really big help. Just restored the phone back to the Original Sprint android version 4.1.2 Hard ware version L900.09. It works perfect now but this phone was modified to use with GSM carriers (it got sim card lot) so I guess I will have to flash it. What should I do next. I prefer to AT&T or Tmobile.

[Q] How to flash original ROM on Samsung Galaxy S3? Its stuck at the main logo!

Hi,
I have been a regular visitor of this website and have gained quite a good amount of knowledge through this forum.
I have been with android for the past 2 years and I have loved the android experience.
2 days ago, I read that there was a feature in android whereas the free apps access the internet frequently and use up precious battery power also the paid apps access the google play store in order to verify licenses. Both these kind of apps wakes up itself regularly and this eats up huge amount of battery.
To counter this I was searching for solutions through this website and found that there was an app which could be downloaded and which can handle such kind of scenario. Lucky Patcher. I didn't read the whole thread but I just went ahead and downloaded that app and my phone stopped working minutes after its installation. Upon reading the whole thread I found out that the android phone needs to be rooted in order for that app to work. BIG MISTAKE!
Now my phone is dead. I can start it but it gets stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo and never goes ahead.
I took the help of this forum to flash a stock ROM of S3 onto my fone using Odin 3.07 and a stock rom downloaded from samsung dash updates dot com.
This is the name of the folder that was downloaded from the website
"Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-T999V_GLW_1_20120818102113_dgbyab64vd"
I tried flashing it using Odin following the procedure but there was nothing happening on the software or on the phone. I kept the phone attached while Odin was "Initialising" for around 4-5 hours. I slept along that time, and when I woke up, it was still there. I was supposed to get "PASS!" on Odin but I didn't get that. I downloaded the previous versions of the stock ROM and tried that but all in vain.
Phone model: SGH-T999V (Wind Mobile, Canada)
Now I can't find a solution to this problem and this is my last resort. By the weekend I will go to one of those mobile stores which I haven't seen in ages, but will have to go there as I am unable to revive back my fone. And I utterly miss using it.
If there is anything any of you guys can help me with, I will be more than happy to reply to any further information you need.
Thank you all for reading, and thanks a million for even thinking of helping me.
God Bless you all.

I can't get in recovery mode (Home+volumeUP+Power). it vibrates once but the screen remains blank.
I can get into downloading mode (Home+volumeDown+Power). which gives me two options, one to continue and the other to cancel.
(May be this helps to determine whether my phone has been bricked or not!)
Using ODIN, the following information is given and is stuck at this only...
"<OSM> KIES_HOME_T999VVLDLL1_T999VYVLDLL1_CL616748_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/005> Initialzation.."
Usually, if you're stuck.during boot you just need to factory reset. Are you sure you're trying the right way to boot recovery? Hold volume up, home and power, when it vibrates, release power but continue holding volume up and home. Some blue text should flash at the top of the screen (you can let go of all buttons now) and it should boot recovery.
No idea why Odin isn't working. Do you have kies installed? If so, get rid of it, reboot and try again.
You could try flashing CWM or TWRP (see my Sig). Then boot recovery and factory reset or flash a Rom.

Sounds like the drivers are missing. Or you need to run ODIN as administrator
I'm with @KAsp3rd, the computer is not seeing the phone, reinstall the USB drivers try again.
Here is a guide I made:
1. Download and install USB Drivers from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=1368
2. Download and extract ODIN 3.07 from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=1369
3. Download Stock ROM image (.tar file) from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
4. Save all open files and reboot computer
5. Boot phone into Download mode (also called ODIN mode) by shutting down the phone and holding Volume Down & Home then pressing Power until it vibrates, still holding Volume Down & Home buttons, until the "Yellow Triangle" screen shows up.
6. Plug phone into computer and open ODIN 3.07 and make sure that only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked.
7. Click on the "PDA" button (right side about half-way down), browse for ROM .tar file, click "Open" button.
8. Click "Start" button and watch to "Reset" or "Fail" to show in the 1st square (upper left side),
9. Phone will reboot
10. Leave phone alone for 10mins+ to let all of the first time boot stuff complete.
Good luck with it.

yes, I was doing the right way with the boot recovery. There was a blue text when the SAMSUNG logo flashed, but nothing after that. I let go off the power button while holding the power up and home buttons, but nothing went ahead.
I dont have kies installed. My laptop has a fresh win 7 ultimate installation. I got the usb drivers for samung already installed, it detects the phone everytime on one of the COM ports.
I'll go through the flashing CWM and TWRP. you meant your signature, right?
sorry for being such a newbie..

TI reinstalled the drivers using the Samsung flashing kit that was available here on xda developers.
I am not sure if ODIN is run as admin. I guess I need to try that one tonight. In class right now, too anxious to study..
wil post up the results as soon as i reach back home..

Yes, in my signature. But the others may still be correct. When you connect and open Odin does it show the port number in the top left area? If not then it's probably a driver issue, even if they're installed. Happens a lot believe it or not. Also try other usb ports on the computer.
If you can flash recovery in Odin though, this is all irrelevant of course! Either way let us know what happens.

Thnaks for this detailed list.
but i know this drill, the only problem being that the phone is not going anywhere after the step where the ODIN has already flashed the file on the phone.
It gets stuck while "Initializing.." I have posted that as an update on my Post.
As KAsp3rd said that I must try running it as an administrator, I might do it tonight and will let you all know what it gave me..
Thanks for all the help..
I think we posted at the same time so did you see my post? Do you remember if Odin had the port number at the top left? In the Odin output it said ID:0, so it may not be seeing the phone.

Yes, it shows the COM port on the top left corner of the ODIN.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the driveres several times, but with no effect.. I am thinking the run as administrator is the one thing I havent thought of or tried or seen anywhere on the forum.
I will post the result of that as well by tonight.
And thanks for hosting so many files online. I downloaded the one that was needed for the Stock Firmware.
Ok, and in case you don't know, uninstalling the driver software isn't enough on its own. Go into device manager, right click and either update drivers, or uninstall, then install the new driver package.

Windows, always reboot after uninstalling any drivers.
@DocHoliday77
I tried that thing again. Reinstalled the drivers after uninstalling and rebooting. there is still no response.
I gave it to one of my friends, he tried putting in the recovery file and now the screen says "Installation of the software has been interrupted, please restart to begin"
I'll post the screenshot in the morning now.
Also, @KAsp3rd : I tried running Odin as administrator, but the same thing happened. It used to get stuck at "Initialization"
Any more advices ?

Is it the phone that says installation interrupted? When he tried flashing the recovery did he use odin? Did it seem to flash properly?
Something else I don't thonk hss been mentioned is to try a different usb cable. Preferably one thst came with the phone, or another device. (Some cables sold for recharging are not capable of data transfer on these devices).
Also, try all ports on the computer, and unplug all unnecessary peripherals.
If something happened and you got a bad flash, it could be bricked. Can't remember if you tried KAsp3rd's unbrick method already.
Another thing you can try to get recovery installed is to adb shell into the device and using the dd command, dump recovery to the phone. Youll have to have the android sdk installed to do this though.
Its hard to say what's really needed at this point though. Usually if you can get download mode, you can Odin the stock firmware. Most Odin problems are due to driver and cable issues. (Is Windows fully updated?)
Even though you can get download mode, the debrick method may still help, but I'm just not sure. Maybe I'm missing something.....

I have the original cable with me, the one that came with the s3.
he tried using ODIN, but thats as far as I know. He said something about using Kies to flash the rom as well. not sure what.
No, I didn't try KAsp3rd's unbrick method. Could you please guide me where could I find that?
Also, everything you said after this unbrick method simply doesn't make any sense to me. May be some guided instructions would be helpful.
And yes, the windows is fully updated, no issue on that.
Where can I find the unbrick method?
If you want to just search for android sdk. It'll find Google's page for it and instructions. Should also find some good guides on installing and using. All I'd 've doing is searching for then repeating it back to you, so it'll be easier for both of us if you just go to the source. I think it's developer.Google com or something similar.
And she'll basically connects to your phone and allows you to run commands as if you were using the terminal emulator.
The debrick thread is stickies in development.
Sent from my SGH-T999V using Tapatalk 4
what is the official stock firmware can i download directly? and what are name of the firmware and how long the procedure to flash that?
Firmware thread stickies in development section. Link is also in my Sig. Everything you need to know and download to get started is in that thread.

[Q] Tmobile Galaxy S 2 not going beyon Boot screen

One fine day all of a sudden my SGH T989 ( Tmobile version of Galaxy S2) turned off and when I tried to turn it on it went in to the boot load loop and was not going beyond the Boot loaded screen which shows blue progress bar. Then I tried emergency firmware recovery option of the KIES but the progress bar on the recover dialog was getting stuck at 0 % for long time without any movement. Tried it multiple times by disabling the anti virus on my laptop , connected to different USB ports but same result. I couldn't get into the recover mode on my phone by pressing the Volume down+Power + Home button. The download mode option was also not working with by pressing both Volume Up+Down and Power button. But I could get in the Download mode by Pressing both volume up+down and then connecting the USB cable.
After KIES now the progress bar on boot load screen reaches almost 100% but after few seconds the screen turns completely black ( appears that the device is turned off) and it no longer goes in to the boot load loop.
After that I tried recovery thru ODIN by using the t898 Stock ROM, but it also doesn't work. It shows ABOOT on the first box on the screen and in the log it shows Nand Write Start !! and doesn't do anything beyond that point. I tried ODIN version 3.09, 3.07, 3.04 and 1.83 but same result every time.
Note: My phone is having Android version 4.1.2/ Software T989UVMC6 (Tmobile official Jelly Beans version) and is still factory locked.
Then I tried the CMW recovery file for T989 using ODIN 1.83 but no luck it get stuck at aboot.md and nothing happens.
I have latest version of KIES on my laptop.
While going thru some other post I read something about repartition but I couldn't find the proper instructions and PIT files for my phone.
Would appreciate guidance/advise to fix this issue.
My phone is out of warranty from both the carrier and Samsung. Samsung is asking to pay $70 for fixing the phone.
But I want to give it a try before sending it to samsung.

All download links provided on the thread given by you are broken. I could find ODIN 1.85 from some other sites but am having hard time finding the stock rom 4.0.3 that is mentioned in the thread. All hotfile.com links are not working.
Please let me know if there is a legitimate link available for download. Can I use the Jelly Beans recovery file?

I tried 4.1.2 tar file ( downloaded from Samsung-Update.com) yesterday with ODIN 1.85 but still same result. It get stuck at Nand Write Start !!
I'll try with ICS rom from the links provided by you but I doubt it will work. Do I need to repartition using PIT file. I read in few other threads that guys had same problem and after using the PIT they could fix their phone. I searched for PIT file for Tmobile Galaxy S 2 (T989) but couldn't find. I see that there a PIT file available with ODIN 1.85 which I downloaded, but am not sure if that is the correct one for my phone.
You can try, be careful, a lot of hard bricks come from trying to repartition. What windows do you use, and end Kies process if running.

I am using Windows 7. I checked in task manager and made sure no process that starts with the name KIES or has samsung in description is not running. Is there any specific service/process that I need to kill before starting the ODIN?
Any other thoughts, like if I need to disable the anti virus completely which might be restricting ODIN and KIES to write to the COM port?
I downloaded a utility for monitoring the serial port while ODIN was running but once I get the NAND Write Start !! I don't see any activity on the port.
I tried the PIT file that came along with ODIN 1.85 and T989 stock Rom together ( I kept the Re-Partition checked.), but again it got stuck at...
<ID:0/05> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/05> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
Still same issue, no change in the Device status..

pit files are related to the size of repartition, thats not what you need. if your phone will still go to download mode but will not boot, you should follow the guide i posted in the first reply , especially step 2, i have recovered many with that guide. sometimes i had to use gingerbread rom first to get files that were missing to upgrade.

I have already tried steps as per the guide but no luck. I can try gingerbread if the ROM is available. finding ICS rom itself was very difficult. Let me know if you have the link for Gingerbread ROM
So I tried the gingerbread and ICS roms as well. Also tried flashing the kernels and various versions of ODIN including 1.3,1.83,1.85,3.07,3.09 but same result. It get either stuck at Nand Write Start !! for ROM upgrade or Boot.img for Kernel flash.
Tried disabling McAfee's firewall and Active Protections, made sure none of the KIES services are running, tried stock ROMs for Gingerbread, ICS and JB.
Tried KIES as well as ODIN.
KIES get stuck at 0% in the Firmware update step after completing all the required file downloads, decryption etc.
Tried all 3 USB ports on my Laptop.
I can get into download mode only by holding Vol up+Down button and then connecting the USB cable.
Holding Vol up+ down and pressing the power button ( releasing on first vibration) doesn't work.
I couldn't get into the recovery mode by pressing the vol up and power button.
If I power ON the device it completes the boot load screen ( blue progress bar) and after few seconds the screen turns black. Pressing the power button again doesn't do anything.
Gone thru many thread but no luck so far.

[Q] Help! Can't Unbrick TMO Note 2. Please help.

Team, my wife has a Note II that is stock all the way. She never accepted the OTA update to 4.3 and has been running 4.1.2 perfectly since last year. Three days ago, when she powered the phone on, it said "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue". The message said we had to go into Kies and try to recover. The phone will NOT enter stock recovery mode. It will go into download mode only.
I tried to use KIES, but Kies says the device version is not upgradeable. I took it to the store and they told me to come home and use Odin. So my wife decided since it couldn't be restored to her old phone we might as well update to 4.3 (booloader issues, I know !) I used Odin 3.07 using the MK7 version of 4.3 from last Dec, it took 10 minutes through modem, system etc. Then says FAIL. When I try to redo the Odin, it says PIT file missing or something like that.
Phone still won't work, and I have failed with Kies, local store, and Odin. I don't know what to do but she needs her phone. This phone bricked itself Sunday morning! Thank you in advance for any help. We don't need to buy a new phone. This one is only a year old.

Flashing stock MK7 via odin should not have any issues. Can you double check the file you downloaded is indeed MK7 ?
Is the phone on 4.3 bootloader ? If download mode shows KNOX then yes it is.
You can also try to restore the phone using KIES emergency and then flash MK7 via odin.

Thanks for the reply. Download mode shows shows the following:
Odin mode
Product Name :
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary : Samsung Official
System Status: Custom (BTW, this said Normal before my Odin attempt)
The word KNOX does not appear anywhere on the Download mode screen.
Kies syas the current firmware is not upgradable. The phone will not actually connect in Kies. I try Emergency restore and put in model and S/N but its says can't upgrade. Kies won't connect to phone in normal mode.
Thanks for any possible ideas you can come up with.

If you can get into recovery and do a factory reset (format data and cache) then reboot and see if that will work. Make certain the SDcard is out of the phone when you format.

The phone is still on 4.1.2 bootloader. I would advise to flash stock T889UVBMD1 from sammobile.
Link: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=15061
Or
If you want a rooted version you can flash MrRobinson's root 66 ROM.

Coug, thansk for the resposnse, but I can't get into recovery or just a boot up. Download (Odin) Mode is the only thing that is presently working.
Cipher, thank you also. Those are the two stock firmwares I have attempted. Nothing else.
I guess it may be hard-bricked, but I sure thought that was pretty rare.
Thanks again to you both for taking the time. If you have any more thoughts, I would sure be interested in hearing them. Thanks again.

Try giving the UVALJ1 root66 a try. I had a similar situation where I Odined that 2x and it reset my file system which had gotten corrupted. I was about to throw my hands up after flashing MB1 and another one as well. I figured that the original factory flash image would have the best chance of success.

Sounds like a good idea. I have tried Odin 3.07 and 3.09 on this effort up till now. Do you think I should look for an older copy of Odin too? Or just the older tar file from Mr. R?

I use 3.07. If that doesn't work give Heimdall a try. It *could* be a bit more stable.

Here is the PIT file I had posted when my phone was still on 4.1.2.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48398405&postcount=205
Download the attached file and make sure to change file extension from .txt to .pit.
Start ODIN, click PIT and browse to this pit file.
Make sure the Re-Partition box is checked.
Then under PDA load your T889UVBMD1 tar.md5 file and click start.

Thank you. That PIT file should be exactly what I am looking for, since that is the message I am getting now. Just one last question, please. Shoukld I do the PIT file and then the TAR file in two separate Odin events? Or could I put the PIT in the Pit line and the TAR in the Pda line, click the re-partition box and do it as one Odin reflash?
I may try the PIT first, then come back and do the TAR second after the phone has repartitioned. I can't thank you enough.

I will stay with Odin, I think. I have never used Heimdall, and am a little intimidated by trying something different. Of course I don't guess I can hurt the phone any further at this point ! haha.
Thanks again for everything. You have been a great help.
It's up to you, if you feel comfortable you can try with pit file first and then try the tar.md5 file. Glad to help, Ai hope the phone starts working again.

We are a community. If my neighbor breaks his leg I'll mow his lawn for a while. If I need to replace my water heater he's there for me.
We've all been there before.

Cipher, I think I am almost there. However, when I start Odin using the PIT file you provided, I have checked repartition, then entered the renamed TXT file with a PIT e4xtension. Odin starts normally, then says "Get PIT for Mapping" but it never continues. It doesn't fail, but it doesn't continue either. At the top of the Odin screen, in the area where it describes the current step, Odin says SET PARTITION, but never continues on past that point. I get no progress bar on either the PC screen or on the cell phone download screen. I think we are right on the edge of having this thing fixed but I am not quite there. Any ideas? Please?

Hi,
Does ODIN detect the device ? Does the ID:COM tab turns blue ?
You can try another PIT file posted by another user from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52860121&postcount=39

Yes, Odin is detecting the device just fine. The blue COM light comes on and gives me the com port number. Then in the running description, its says Added! which I have always taken to mean that Odin has successfullly connected to the device.
I leave the two check marks checked that are alerady there, then I also check the Re-Partition box. I add the PIT file from earlier (renamed with a PIT extension of course) to the PIT line.
When I click Start, Odin starts normally, finds the right instruxction, and above the blu com box, where it would say PASS at the very end, it syas SET PARTITION. The task descriptions in the lower left says Getting PIT file, and then ODIN stays there.
That lasted over 2 hours. I will try the new PIT file and see what happens this time. Thanks for the continued help and support. I really feel like we are just one tiny issue from getting this phone restored, but I can't quite get over the hump. I will let you know how I fare with the new PIT> Thanks again.

Try without checking the re-partition checkbox and see if it works. It should not take more then few seconds if you are only uploading the pit file.

Will do. Just gets stuck at "Get PIT for mapping.." I will try without the re-partition checked and report back. Thank you.

OK, when you select the PIT file using the Pit button, then Odin automatically checks the Re-Partition box. If you uncheck that box and try to proceed, I get the error message "No Binary is Selected." So it looks like I am kind of stuck. I have tried both of the PIT files. Both start normally, then get stuck (Permanently it appears) at the line "Get PIT for mapping.." I have tried just with the PIT only, and tried it with the ROM entered into the PDA button, and both give the same result.
I was very excited earlier today. I thought we (Really you) could save this phone. I feel like we are right on the edge, but the PIT load won't complete. Thanks for ideas.
