One fine day all of a sudden my SGH T989 ( Tmobile version of Galaxy S2) turned off and when I tried to turn it on it went in to the boot load loop and was not going beyond the Boot loaded screen which shows blue progress bar. Then I tried emergency firmware recovery option of the KIES but the progress bar on the recover dialog was getting stuck at 0 % for long time without any movement. Tried it multiple times by disabling the anti virus on my laptop , connected to different USB ports but same result. I couldn't get into the recover mode on my phone by pressing the Volume down+Power + Home button. The download mode option was also not working with by pressing both Volume Up+Down and Power button. But I could get in the Download mode by Pressing both volume up+down and then connecting the USB cable.
After KIES now the progress bar on boot load screen reaches almost 100% but after few seconds the screen turns completely black ( appears that the device is turned off) and it no longer goes in to the boot load loop.
After that I tried recovery thru ODIN by using the t898 Stock ROM, but it also doesn't work. It shows ABOOT on the first box on the screen and in the log it shows Nand Write Start !! and doesn't do anything beyond that point. I tried ODIN version 3.09, 3.07, 3.04 and 1.83 but same result every time.
Note: My phone is having Android version 4.1.2/ Software T989UVMC6 (Tmobile official Jelly Beans version) and is still factory locked.
Then I tried the CMW recovery file for T989 using ODIN 1.83 but no luck it get stuck at aboot.md and nothing happens.
I have latest version of KIES on my laptop.
While going thru some other post I read something about repartition but I couldn't find the proper instructions and PIT files for my phone.
Would appreciate guidance/advise to fix this issue.
My phone is out of warranty from both the carrier and Samsung. Samsung is asking to pay $70 for fixing the phone.
But I want to give it a try before sending it to samsung.

All download links provided on the thread given by you are broken. I could find ODIN 1.85 from some other sites but am having hard time finding the stock rom 4.0.3 that is mentioned in the thread. All hotfile.com links are not working.
Please let me know if there is a legitimate link available for download. Can I use the Jelly Beans recovery file?
I tried it with ODIN 3.09, 3.07 and 1.83 but it didn't work.

I tried 4.1.2 tar file ( downloaded from Samsung-Update.com) yesterday with ODIN 1.85 but still same result. It get stuck at Nand Write Start !!
I'll try with ICS rom from the links provided by you but I doubt it will work. Do I need to repartition using PIT file. I read in few other threads that guys had same problem and after using the PIT they could fix their phone. I searched for PIT file for Tmobile Galaxy S 2 (T989) but couldn't find. I see that there a PIT file available with ODIN 1.85 which I downloaded, but am not sure if that is the correct one for my phone.
You can try, be careful, a lot of hard bricks come from trying to repartition. What windows do you use, and end Kies process if running.

I am using Windows 7. I checked in task manager and made sure no process that starts with the name KIES or has samsung in description is not running. Is there any specific service/process that I need to kill before starting the ODIN?
Any other thoughts, like if I need to disable the anti virus completely which might be restricting ODIN and KIES to write to the COM port?
I downloaded a utility for monitoring the serial port while ODIN was running but once I get the NAND Write Start !! I don't see any activity on the port.
I tried the PIT file that came along with ODIN 1.85 and T989 stock Rom together ( I kept the Re-Partition checked.), but again it got stuck at...
<ID:0/05> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/05> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
Still same issue, no change in the Device status..

pit files are related to the size of repartition, thats not what you need. if your phone will still go to download mode but will not boot, you should follow the guide i posted in the first reply , especially step 2, i have recovered many with that guide. sometimes i had to use gingerbread rom first to get files that were missing to upgrade.

I have already tried steps as per the guide but no luck. I can try gingerbread if the ROM is available. finding ICS rom itself was very difficult. Let me know if you have the link for Gingerbread ROM
So I tried the gingerbread and ICS roms as well. Also tried flashing the kernels and various versions of ODIN including 1.3,1.83,1.85,3.07,3.09 but same result. It get either stuck at Nand Write Start !! for ROM upgrade or Boot.img for Kernel flash.
Tried disabling McAfee's firewall and Active Protections, made sure none of the KIES services are running, tried stock ROMs for Gingerbread, ICS and JB.
Tried KIES as well as ODIN.
KIES get stuck at 0% in the Firmware update step after completing all the required file downloads, decryption etc.
Tried all 3 USB ports on my Laptop.
I can get into download mode only by holding Vol up+Down button and then connecting the USB cable.
Holding Vol up+ down and pressing the power button ( releasing on first vibration) doesn't work.
I couldn't get into the recovery mode by pressing the vol up and power button.
If I power ON the device it completes the boot load screen ( blue progress bar) and after few seconds the screen turns black. Pressing the power button again doesn't do anything.
Gone thru many thread but no luck so far.
Need help !!

I posted this question few days ago but did not receive any reply (expect from one person) since I did not provide enough detail.
Stucked on boot screen (the one that we usually see first with white letters). I did factory reset but I am still stucked on Galaxy S boot screen. I heard the default galaxy S sound but did not see the big 'S'. When I press Volume down + Home + Power , I just see a big triangle which says 'Downloading...do not turn off target'. This means that I can go into the download mode.
I installed odin3 and installed .512 PIT file as well as JP3 firmware from here
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748131
.
After connecting my phone with my computer, odin recognizes my phone since I see something like 0:[COM6] in Odin. Please guide me from hereon. Any help will be much appreciated.
Should I click on 'start'? Is it safe?...Just need some motivation and guidance to do this.
NOTE: I was using gscript o change system fonts. Probably deleted system fonts. Then, I restored back to system and since then phone would not start. Well, it starts but I am stucked on this screen.
I am using Samsung galaxy S vibrant (Bell, canada [GT-I900M])
Don't use .512 PIT file with JP3, you have to use .513 instead. Using 512 won't work. Just get JP3, load it up in Odin, then connect your phone to your PC in download mode. Once its recognized by Odin, click the start button and wait for everything to be done automatically by Odin.

Same thing happened to me. Just have Odin open and ready to go, plug phone into DL mode just like normal, when the screen pops up give Odin a second or two and then you should see the com light up yellow as Odin recognise your device. Start the flash and let Odin do it's thing and it will reboot and all will be fine.

My device is read by Odin and it flashes things. Once I flash a working rom though, it bootloops and I have no recovery to wipe data. I've never been able to get the repartition function to work
And the error I keep receiving every time almost is an error about line 1876. I have no idea what this is. I Googled it and I can't find it.
FWIW My phone would not go into download mode to save my life. I then decided to try the OE Samsung cable instead of the motorola cable I had been using and it worked right away.
Troubleshooting 101, start with the basics.
So I have the same problem as the OP. The only screen I boot to is mobile ! PC in Odin mode. This happened after I was rooted with my stock rom and CWM, but tried to do the OTA update from Kies.
My device is recognized by Odin utility, so I tried what the 2nd poster put and used Odin to flash the stock kernel (UVKID tar) from the PDA button and it failed. I used the default settings in Odin, but maybe I didn't set one right? I have attached a screen shot.
So now do I use Odin to flash the stock recovery? I'm working on making a USB jig in case that will help.
UPDATE: I was able to use Odin to flash the Stock Recovery. Now it boots up like normal. I would like to try the OTA update through Kies again, but I'm worried. Any suggestions?

OK the somewhat hidden Firmware Recovery built into Kies is not to hard to find,
First you will need to write on a piece of paper your S/N and your Model #, the same way it is written under the battery on the sticker.
Second boot your phone into download mode and connect it to the computer.
Third open Kies, select the tools drop down menu.
Now you have a choice. Select Firmware Emergency Recovery to recover your current firmware version... or select Firmware Upgrade and Initialization to install the latest OTA, either way just fallow the steps on screen and when done your will have a working phone.
hit the thanks button if this helped
Bro you should check the dates out xD thx anyway though

This guide will get your phone back up and running properly, doing anything else will just prolong your problem.
Easy and sure way fix your problem - Here is s step by step guide:
Download the newest pre-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.2 rom: T999_UVDMD5
After downloading make a folder on your computer's desktop and unzip the
file using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file
Here is the link for Odin: http://d-h.st/Q14
• Download ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app)
• Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
• Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
• Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
• Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
• You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
• Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
• Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
• Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
• TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
• If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
• Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
• Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
• You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
• Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
• (It may seem to hang during boot, this is normal and you must be patient!!!)
Good Luck!

Try to be patient. It may take a while, but it should eventually timeout and Fail. Though, if you dont think its going to happen, then you can try to stop everything as you did before. Chances are nothing was actually done, but I cant promise you that. Last time you were able to still get download mode, you will probably still be able to if you have to resort to forcing it to stop.
BTW, uninstall Kies!!!!! There is really not much it is good for.

First unplug usb from the phone.
The kies drivers are still loaded unless you reboot the computer so the best thing would
be if you uninstall kies, it's not needed at all then reboot the computer.
After rebooting download the official samsung usb drivers which can be found here:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T999RWBTMB#
After downloading the samsung usb drivers install the drivers and reboot the computer, start odin put the rom TAR file into the PDA slot
in Odin and then put the phone in download mode and lastly connect the usb cable from computer to the phone.
Then Re-Read the step by step instructions which was my first post here and follow it exactly to a TEE!
Good luck!

I'm not sure I first thought I had a i9300 but I just clicked the t-mobile one because I bought it at them.
Hi,
I have been a regular visitor of this website and have gained quite a good amount of knowledge through this forum.
I have been with android for the past 2 years and I have loved the android experience.
2 days ago, I read that there was a feature in android whereas the free apps access the internet frequently and use up precious battery power also the paid apps access the google play store in order to verify licenses. Both these kind of apps wakes up itself regularly and this eats up huge amount of battery.
To counter this I was searching for solutions through this website and found that there was an app which could be downloaded and which can handle such kind of scenario. Lucky Patcher. I didn't read the whole thread but I just went ahead and downloaded that app and my phone stopped working minutes after its installation. Upon reading the whole thread I found out that the android phone needs to be rooted in order for that app to work. BIG MISTAKE!
Now my phone is dead. I can start it but it gets stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo and never goes ahead.
I took the help of this forum to flash a stock ROM of S3 onto my fone using Odin 3.07 and a stock rom downloaded from samsung dash updates dot com.
This is the name of the folder that was downloaded from the website
"Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-T999V_GLW_1_20120818102113_dgbyab64vd"
I tried flashing it using Odin following the procedure but there was nothing happening on the software or on the phone. I kept the phone attached while Odin was "Initialising" for around 4-5 hours. I slept along that time, and when I woke up, it was still there. I was supposed to get "PASS!" on Odin but I didn't get that. I downloaded the previous versions of the stock ROM and tried that but all in vain.
Phone model: SGH-T999V (Wind Mobile, Canada)
Now I can't find a solution to this problem and this is my last resort. By the weekend I will go to one of those mobile stores which I haven't seen in ages, but will have to go there as I am unable to revive back my fone. And I utterly miss using it.
If there is anything any of you guys can help me with, I will be more than happy to reply to any further information you need.
Thank you all for reading, and thanks a million for even thinking of helping me.
God Bless you all.

I can't get in recovery mode (Home+volumeUP+Power). it vibrates once but the screen remains blank.
I can get into downloading mode (Home+volumeDown+Power). which gives me two options, one to continue and the other to cancel.
(May be this helps to determine whether my phone has been bricked or not!)
Using ODIN, the following information is given and is stuck at this only...
"<OSM> KIES_HOME_T999VVLDLL1_T999VYVLDLL1_CL616748_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/005> Initialzation.."
Usually, if you're stuck.during boot you just need to factory reset. Are you sure you're trying the right way to boot recovery? Hold volume up, home and power, when it vibrates, release power but continue holding volume up and home. Some blue text should flash at the top of the screen (you can let go of all buttons now) and it should boot recovery.
No idea why Odin isn't working. Do you have kies installed? If so, get rid of it, reboot and try again.
You could try flashing CWM or TWRP (see my Sig). Then boot recovery and factory reset or flash a Rom.

Sounds like the drivers are missing. Or you need to run ODIN as administrator
I'm with @KAsp3rd, the computer is not seeing the phone, reinstall the USB drivers try again.
Here is a guide I made:
1. Download and install USB Drivers from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=1368
2. Download and extract ODIN 3.07 from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=1369
3. Download Stock ROM image (.tar file) from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
4. Save all open files and reboot computer
5. Boot phone into Download mode (also called ODIN mode) by shutting down the phone and holding Volume Down & Home then pressing Power until it vibrates, still holding Volume Down & Home buttons, until the "Yellow Triangle" screen shows up.
6. Plug phone into computer and open ODIN 3.07 and make sure that only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked.
7. Click on the "PDA" button (right side about half-way down), browse for ROM .tar file, click "Open" button.
8. Click "Start" button and watch to "Reset" or "Fail" to show in the 1st square (upper left side),
9. Phone will reboot
10. Leave phone alone for 10mins+ to let all of the first time boot stuff complete.
Good luck with it.

yes, I was doing the right way with the boot recovery. There was a blue text when the SAMSUNG logo flashed, but nothing after that. I let go off the power button while holding the power up and home buttons, but nothing went ahead.
I dont have kies installed. My laptop has a fresh win 7 ultimate installation. I got the usb drivers for samung already installed, it detects the phone everytime on one of the COM ports.
I'll go through the flashing CWM and TWRP. you meant your signature, right?
sorry for being such a newbie..

TI reinstalled the drivers using the Samsung flashing kit that was available here on xda developers.
I am not sure if ODIN is run as admin. I guess I need to try that one tonight. In class right now, too anxious to study..
wil post up the results as soon as i reach back home..

Yes, in my signature. But the others may still be correct. When you connect and open Odin does it show the port number in the top left area? If not then it's probably a driver issue, even if they're installed. Happens a lot believe it or not. Also try other usb ports on the computer.
If you can flash recovery in Odin though, this is all irrelevant of course! Either way let us know what happens.

Thnaks for this detailed list.
but i know this drill, the only problem being that the phone is not going anywhere after the step where the ODIN has already flashed the file on the phone.
It gets stuck while "Initializing.." I have posted that as an update on my Post.
As KAsp3rd said that I must try running it as an administrator, I might do it tonight and will let you all know what it gave me..
Thanks for all the help..
I think we posted at the same time so did you see my post? Do you remember if Odin had the port number at the top left? In the Odin output it said ID:0, so it may not be seeing the phone.

Yes, it shows the COM port on the top left corner of the ODIN.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the driveres several times, but with no effect.. I am thinking the run as administrator is the one thing I havent thought of or tried or seen anywhere on the forum.
I will post the result of that as well by tonight.
And thanks for hosting so many files online. I downloaded the one that was needed for the Stock Firmware.
Ok, and in case you don't know, uninstalling the driver software isn't enough on its own. Go into device manager, right click and either update drivers, or uninstall, then install the new driver package.

Windows, always reboot after uninstalling any drivers.
@DocHoliday77
I tried that thing again. Reinstalled the drivers after uninstalling and rebooting. there is still no response.
I gave it to one of my friends, he tried putting in the recovery file and now the screen says "Installation of the software has been interrupted, please restart to begin"
I'll post the screenshot in the morning now.
Also, @KAsp3rd : I tried running Odin as administrator, but the same thing happened. It used to get stuck at "Initialization"
Any more advices ?

Is it the phone that says installation interrupted? When he tried flashing the recovery did he use odin? Did it seem to flash properly?
Something else I don't thonk hss been mentioned is to try a different usb cable. Preferably one thst came with the phone, or another device. (Some cables sold for recharging are not capable of data transfer on these devices).
Also, try all ports on the computer, and unplug all unnecessary peripherals.
If something happened and you got a bad flash, it could be bricked. Can't remember if you tried KAsp3rd's unbrick method already.
Another thing you can try to get recovery installed is to adb shell into the device and using the dd command, dump recovery to the phone. Youll have to have the android sdk installed to do this though.
Its hard to say what's really needed at this point though. Usually if you can get download mode, you can Odin the stock firmware. Most Odin problems are due to driver and cable issues. (Is Windows fully updated?)
Even though you can get download mode, the debrick method may still help, but I'm just not sure. Maybe I'm missing something.....

I have the original cable with me, the one that came with the s3.
he tried using ODIN, but thats as far as I know. He said something about using Kies to flash the rom as well. not sure what.
No, I didn't try KAsp3rd's unbrick method. Could you please guide me where could I find that?
Also, everything you said after this unbrick method simply doesn't make any sense to me. May be some guided instructions would be helpful.
And yes, the windows is fully updated, no issue on that.
Where can I find the unbrick method?
If you want to just search for android sdk. It'll find Google's page for it and instructions. Should also find some good guides on installing and using. All I'd 've doing is searching for then repeating it back to you, so it'll be easier for both of us if you just go to the source. I think it's developer.Google com or something similar.
And she'll basically connects to your phone and allows you to run commands as if you were using the terminal emulator.
The debrick thread is stickies in development.

what is the official stock firmware can i download directly? and what are name of the firmware and how long the procedure to flash that?
Firmware thread stickies in development section. Link is also in my Sig. Everything you need to know and download to get started is in that thread.

Team, my wife has a Note II that is stock all the way. She never accepted the OTA update to 4.3 and has been running 4.1.2 perfectly since last year. Three days ago, when she powered the phone on, it said "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue". The message said we had to go into Kies and try to recover. The phone will NOT enter stock recovery mode. It will go into download mode only.
I tried to use KIES, but Kies says the device version is not upgradeable. I took it to the store and they told me to come home and use Odin. So my wife decided since it couldn't be restored to her old phone we might as well update to 4.3 (booloader issues, I know !) I used Odin 3.07 using the MK7 version of 4.3 from last Dec, it took 10 minutes through modem, system etc. Then says FAIL. When I try to redo the Odin, it says PIT file missing or something like that.
Phone still won't work, and I have failed with Kies, local store, and Odin. I don't know what to do but she needs her phone. This phone bricked itself Sunday morning! Thank you in advance for any help. We don't need to buy a new phone. This one is only a year old.

Flashing stock MK7 via odin should not have any issues. Can you double check the file you downloaded is indeed MK7 ?
Is the phone on 4.3 bootloader ? If download mode shows KNOX then yes it is.
You can also try to restore the phone using KIES emergency and then flash MK7 via odin.

Thanks for the reply. Download mode shows shows the following:
Odin mode
Product Name :
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary : Samsung Official
System Status: Custom (BTW, this said Normal before my Odin attempt)
The word KNOX does not appear anywhere on the Download mode screen.
Kies syas the current firmware is not upgradable. The phone will not actually connect in Kies. I try Emergency restore and put in model and S/N but its says can't upgrade. Kies won't connect to phone in normal mode.
Thanks for any possible ideas you can come up with.

The phone is still on 4.1.2 bootloader. I would advise to flash stock T889UVBMD1 from sammobile.

Or
If you want a rooted version you can flash MrRobinson's root 66 ROM.

Coug, thansk for the resposnse, but I can't get into recovery or just a boot up. Download (Odin) Mode is the only thing that is presently working.
Cipher, thank you also. Those are the two stock firmwares I have attempted. Nothing else.
I guess it may be hard-bricked, but I sure thought that was pretty rare.
Thanks again to you both for taking the time. If you have any more thoughts, I would sure be interested in hearing them. Thanks again.

Try giving the UVALJ1 root66 a try. I had a similar situation where I Odined that 2x and it reset my file system which had gotten corrupted. I was about to throw my hands up after flashing MB1 and another one as well. I figured that the original factory flash image would have the best chance of success.

Thank you. That PIT file should be exactly what I am looking for, since that is the message I am getting now. Just one last question, please. Shoukld I do the PIT file and then the TAR file in two separate Odin events? Or could I put the PIT in the Pit line and the TAR in the Pda line, click the re-partition box and do it as one Odin reflash?
I may try the PIT first, then come back and do the TAR second after the phone has repartitioned. I can't thank you enough.

Cipher, I think I am almost there. However, when I start Odin using the PIT file you provided, I have checked repartition, then entered the renamed TXT file with a PIT e4xtension. Odin starts normally, then says "Get PIT for Mapping" but it never continues. It doesn't fail, but it doesn't continue either. At the top of the Odin screen, in the area where it describes the current step, Odin says SET PARTITION, but never continues on past that point. I get no progress bar on either the PC screen or on the cell phone download screen. I think we are right on the edge of having this thing fixed but I am not quite there. Any ideas? Please?

Hi,

Yes, Odin is detecting the device just fine. The blue COM light comes on and gives me the com port number. Then in the running description, its says Added! which I have always taken to mean that Odin has successfullly connected to the device.
I leave the two check marks checked that are alerady there, then I also check the Re-Partition box. I add the PIT file from earlier (renamed with a PIT extension of course) to the PIT line.
When I click Start, Odin starts normally, finds the right instruxction, and above the blu com box, where it would say PASS at the very end, it syas SET PARTITION. The task descriptions in the lower left says Getting PIT file, and then ODIN stays there.
That lasted over 2 hours. I will try the new PIT file and see what happens this time. Thanks for the continued help and support. I really feel like we are just one tiny issue from getting this phone restored, but I can't quite get over the hump. I will let you know how I fare with the new PIT> Thanks again.

Try without checking the re-partition checkbox and see if it works. It should not take more then few seconds if you are only uploading the pit file.

OK, when you select the PIT file using the Pit button, then Odin automatically checks the Re-Partition box. If you uncheck that box and try to proceed, I get the error message "No Binary is Selected." So it looks like I am kind of stuck. I have tried both of the PIT files. Both start normally, then get stuck (Permanently it appears) at the line "Get PIT for mapping.." I have tried just with the PIT only, and tried it with the ROM entered into the PDA button, and both give the same result.
I was very excited earlier today. I thought we (Really you) could save this phone. I feel like we are right on the edge, but the PIT load won't complete. Thanks for ideas.
