Revies of Lepow Moonstone 6000mAh battery pack - General Accessories

There is another review on this product here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2691665 but this is my take on this product.
I wasn’t expecting too much from this battery pack (with all the competition out there) but when I actually received it and put it to use, I was very pleasantly surprised. Everything from the fit and finish, size, performance, accessories and packaging was great.
You can tell a lot of thought went into this product. It comes with a flat style micro USB cable which helps prevent tangling. It was a nice length too as this was one problem that I found with other cables that were provided by other companies. It also comes with two different types of carrying bags/pouch. Who can forget the color on this thing? Mine was the bright apple/green color and I actually liked it. With all the bland colors (black and white) that other companies offered, the color options offered by Lepow was a breath of fresh air. It screams to everyone, “Hey, look what I have.”
Performance wise, this product performed as expected per the listed specifications. It has 2 output modes, Ultra Mode and Fast Mode. Using a USB Power Meter reader, the outputs that showed on the meter was .85A for Ultra and .72A for Fast Mode. This translated to charging times of my N5 phone from 20% to 79% in 60 mins and 100% in 93 mins in Ultra Mode. For Fast Mode, in 60 mins it went from 20% to 74% charged and 103 mins to charge my phone to 100%. These tests were performed 3 times each and was pretty consistent. This isn’t the fastest battery pack out there as a different brand charged my phone from 20% to 92% in 60 mins and 100% in 72 mins.
Efficiency wise, this battery pack was able to charge my phone (2300mAh battery size) a full 3 times (from 20% - 100%) before it needed a charge itself. This was excellent because another brand with the same 6000mAh rating was only able to charge my phone 2.25 times.
Measuring 3.2 x 3.2 x 0.8 inches and weighing 9.6 ounces, this battery pack takes up minimal space. It accompanies me to work every day as I am in meetings all the time. It is easy enough to just pop this thing out on the table and charge my phone up while the meeting is going on. I’ve gotten many comments when I do this, all to the extent of how cool this thing is and that they need to get one too.
Last but not least, price point. We all want to pay the lowest that we can for good quality, dependable products. At $19.99 that this is currently selling on Amazon, it is a steal. Compare this to the other major brands with the same mAh rating ($29.99, $37.99), the Lepow Moonstone performed just as good, but at the same time being less expensive!
If there was one thing that could be improved upon for this product, it would be a built in micro usb cable. This would make it so much easier for the user since that would eliminate the need to carry one around.
All in all, this is a great product and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a very efficient portable battery pack. Combine that with the lower price point, included accessories and the cool colors that are offered, you can’t go wrong.
If anyone wants to know more about this company, I found their website: http://www.lepowglobal.com/
Here is a link to the product on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Lepow-Moonstone-6000mAh-External-Smartphones/dp/B00DWKK6PY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395900241&sr=8-1&keywords=lepow+moonstone+6000
On to the pics for size comparison to my N5:

I use the same and have found it to really be a very good product :good:

Just Mobile Gum Plus 4400 mAh External Battery Review

I just picked up a Gum Plus for my Evo. Have not had any issues with the OEM Evo battery, but I saw a video review of one, and it got my interest for long international flights. It commonly takes me 20-28 hours to get back home from a trip, and I like the idea of knowing I won't have to baby the phones battery, any more.
Neat part of this is that it can likely work with any phone or USB powered device you own. They include a USB to mini-USB cable in the box, but I just used the USB to micro-USB that came with the Evo. It also includes an ipod cable or something, but I have no use for that.
The Gum Plus does not include an AC charger, but can be charged by your PC via the included USB cable.
Luckily, I have an AC to mini-USB charger, from my retired HTC Tilt. Worked fine, and took about two hours to charge it, from the half full state it was delivered in. From an empty state, it takes about 5 hours to charge completely. Once fully charged, 5 tiny LEDs turn on. These indicate charge state when in use.
From a completely dead Evo phone (turned off during charge), it took 2 hours and 45 minutes to go to full charge (green light on phone).
I completed 2 full charges in this manner (phone battery fails boot, to full green light), and 1 partial charge where the battery was taken from 45% to 72% (phone was off while charging). For the partial charge, I waited for the phone to indicate it was not being charged (orange light to no light). This partial charge took 39 minutes.
Regarding the weight of the unit, I used a kitchen scale to measure it out to .125 kilograms. This equals 4.4 ounces. If you are like me, 4.4 ounces has no real world meaning, so I stacked US quarter coins on the scale, until it hit the exact same spot. I stacked 22 quarters ($5.50) before it hit the same weight. It so happens that 22*0.200003364 (weight in ounces of a modern quarter) equals 4.4 ounces, so it looks like the scale is properly calibrated. In short, want to know how heavy it is? Put 22 quarters in your hand. I find it very light, especially as it will be going in my back pack.
This costs $10 more than its cousin, the Gum Pro, but the Gum Pro seems to suffer from a wonky switch that likes to turn itself on when kicking around in a bag (according to a bunch of reviews on Amazon). I really don't think this unit can have that issue, as the power switch is slightly recessed.
So far, I rate this a 5 out of 5. Does exactly what I expected, and I hope to get a few years out of it. I really like that when I upgrade my phone next year, the Gum Plus will continue to add value.

I picked one up here:
http://www.mygearstore.com/Products...for-iPhone-3G-3GS-iPod-and-USB-Devices-Silver
Lists for $70 + free fedex ground shipping. By using "buymeaniphone" as a coupon code, they knocked $7 off, for a total of $63. That is just 3 bucks more than the wonky Gum Pro.
I hope someone finds this product as useful as I have.
Thanks for the initial impressions. Please continue to update this if you make any further findings. Also, any comments on the weight of the external battery? Heavier or lighter than you expected?

Berner, added final info on number of total charges, and the weight of the unit. Funny, but when I was looking for information prior to my purchase, I could not find any weight info for it (only the Gum Pro). Thanks to the "quarter" test, I can strongly say the Gum Plus is 4.4 ounces.
I think I might be interested in one of these things. Can you take a few pictures of it next to your Evo?

External power pack/battery

I was wondering if anyone as tried any of these external batteries/power packs:
Cinch Power 5000 mAh External Battery
CLEARMAX CM-500 5000mAh External Battery pack
splash Intense 5400mAh External Battery Pack
I was thinking of picking one up for long trips and I was wondering if one was better than the other in terms of quality and delivering the promised amount of power.
I don't personally have any experience with any of those but i picked up two of these on woot.com, once during a wootoff and one just regularly, for 40 bucks:
http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-XP8000-Rechargeable-Power-Netbooks/dp/B0029U2WZU
Works pretty well fairly lightweight and delivers on its 8000mah pretty closely, charged my phone at least 4 times and many occasions of charging while i was using it.
zaggsparks are only like 50 bucks with all the 50% off coupons they give out. I dont know how much you are looking to spend or how much those others cost. Just throwing it out there. I have a 40% off coupon i'm not going to use that i could give you.
Wow. I didn't realize that zagg had a power supply. That one looks good.

REVIEW of RAVPower® Xtreme 23000mAh 3-Port Portable External Battery Charger

This is a remarkable battery and has to easily be one of RAVPower’s best products!
When you open the fancy packaging, you find the battery lying in a trey-type box that lifts out of the whole thing. Looking at the pictures I have posted will help you see what I am talking about. There is a thin sheet of plastic on glossy finish of the battery which is on its back. When you lift out the trey, you find an AC Adapter with the plug for your country that hooks onto it. You also find these things:
-Two USB charging cables (you plug in the tip you desire to charge the certain device)
-Four USB charging tips (Samsung Tablet, micro-USB, etc.)
-One DC Charging Cable
-Ten laptop tips for various types of laptops (Dell, HP, etc.)
-A Grey Carrying Pouch
-An Instruction Manual
First Impressions: The packaging blew me away! They’ve packaged it as if it is a phone or tablet. This is truly high-end. The battery itself has a really nice aluminum-type finish on the front and a smooth, glossy finish on the back. The back has a thin sheet of plastic covering it that you peel off. The LCD screen also has a thin sheet of plastic. The black colors along with the brilliant RAVPower logo compliment the battery quite nicely. Pressing the power button illuminates the brilliant LCD screen which has a battery icon, capacity (exact), USB output indicator, Power Icon, and Output Voltage. The battery feels really nice and already feels like it is worth what it is sold for. The battery does feel heavy, but be realistic. This can charge your laptop and cellular devices simultaneously! Also, it’s 23000mAh!! Of course it’ll have some weight. The battery comes partially charged.
After charging the battery up to 100%, I decided to run a test. I was watching a show on Hulu and my laptop’s battery was at 48%. I plugged in the external battery and started charging my HP Pavilion dv6-3257cl Entertainment Notebook. I also plugged in my Samsung Galaxy S3 while it was at 8%. I left these devices plugged in for fifty minutes and I continued watching the show on Hulu the whole time. The laptop went from 48% all the way to 84%. My phone went from 8% to 67%. The external battery went from 100% to 45%. Keep in mind that I was heavily using my laptop while it was being charged, so that is why the battery went down fairly quickly. From these results, you can see that the battery did pretty good! If you were to charge your laptop with the external battery when you weren’t using it, you would have more juice left in the external battery when you finish. I HIGHLY recommend using the cables that came with the product to charge your cellular devices for best results in both efficiency and charge time. Having the external battery charge only my phone makes it charge it really fast! This is a really well-built and high-quality battery!
This would be great for students, people that work on laptops, and people that travel. Just about anyone who owns a laptop needs to have this battery. It can truly be a life-saver while you are on a plane, or a train, or even in the car. Let’s say you have to type an essay or type up something for your boss and your laptop dies. This battery will save you and your device’s life.
Overall, this battery is amazing! I will definitely be using this frequently. I can’t imagine how I have survived without this. I would have to carry my long charger for my laptop with its power brick and everything. Comparing this to other batteries, RAVPower has them beat in both quality and price. Having the nice carrying pouch is also a huge bonus. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like except for having to use the cables that came with the battery to charge my phone. This isn’t a huge deal. Other, than that, this battery is pretty nice and I highly recommend it!
I was supplied a unit for testing purposes and I promised to provide a completely honest and fair review.
Unfortunately, I cannot post the link to this product on Amazon because posting commercial links is forbidden, but you can find it on Amazon by searching for the product's name that is in the title of this thread. Thanks!

Review of Intocircuit® Power Castle 12000mAh Portable Dual-Port External Battery Pack

This is an amazing battery with a great build quality and performance that is just out of the park!
In the box, you get the battery itself, a micro USB cable, a really nice carrying pouch, a HISCARD warranty card, and an instruction manual.
First Impressions: This is so nice! It feels so smooth and premium in your hands. The orange parts of the battery finish it off very nicely. Pressing the button to illuminate the battery percentage blew me away. It is a really bright blue LED indicator that grows on you immediately. Using it was a breeze. I simply used the supplied cable and plugged it into the battery. I then plugged that into my phone, and it was charging. I didn’t even have to press the button, it detected that the device was connected automatically.
After using this for a while, I can safely say that this is downright a great battery! It does exactly as it promises and this is a product you have to have in this day and age if you don’t already. I was able to charge up my Samsung Galaxy S3 in no time with the 2.1A port. If you ever find yourself with no place to plug in your phone and/or if your phone dies, this will be your savior. This battery is just that good, I don’t know what else to say. Intocircuit got the design, build, performance, and feeling just right! It’s a perfect battery, and I haven’t experienced any conflicts with it.
I would recommend this to anybody who is in the market for a well-priced battery that has a great build quality, feels good, and works well.
Overall, this is a great product and I highly recommend it. One of my favorite things about this battery isn’t just the metal build, but also the carrying pouch. It is a great accessory that makes this product perfect!
I was provided a unit for testing purposes and I promised to provide a completely honest and fair review.

Just ordered one of these and am waiting for it to arrive. It's looks great and seems a bit slimmer than last year's model while having a larger capacity.
Yes, last year model (11,200 mAh) was not good. Very poor efficiency where you loose over 40% of capacity after conversion and also a poor standby time where I suspect LED display was draining the battery at high rate.
@Mon431, charge it up to 100% and set it aside for a week, and come back with a reading of remaining battery without using it to charger anything. See if it drains in standby. Also, you can try how many times you can charge a phone or a tablet with a known battery capacity off this 12000 mAh battery to see the actual capacity.

Good idea @vectron, I've started the standby experiment like you mentioned. It's been one day and so far, it is still at 100%.

I decided to do your experiment for an extra week, just to see how it would hold up. After two weeks of not using the battery after fully charging it, the battery is still at 100%! This battery definitely has a great standby time.

My Zero Lemon S7A battery case review

jlczl already has a youtube review up but here's my take on it. With no pictures. Lol
There is no getting around the size and weight of the case but make no mistake, this phone should last you at least 2-3 days of HEAVY usage. This is not a case for most to carry in their pants/jeans pockets. I'm usually carrying two phones with me in the same pocket (one from work, one personal) and even then, it's still thinner than this case with the phone on it. It also weighs less. While some people like my brother actually carries and uses ZeroLemon battery cases on a daily basis, most of us would only use it for specific scenarios, probably mostly during travel. Some would say, "well you can do the same with a battery pack". Of course you can but it's definitely not as convenient and you'll have to contend with a wire between the phone and battery. Speaking of battery packs, this case has a USB output so you can actually use it as a battery pack to charge other devices.
A few things that I don't like about the case is that when you're charging devices, the LED lights are lit up the entire time it's charging which, depending on the situation can be distracting. Not sure if it's just the one I have but that's my main gripe about this case. The specs list QC 2.0 for charging the S7A but I didn't notice it charging any faster than usual. Regardless of that, it would've been nice if the USB output for other devices was at QC 2.0 as well. Last but not least and should go without saying, you lose the waterproofing for the phone. Well, technically the phone is still waterproof but the case obviously is not. You still wouldn't want water to get between any charging devices whether they're waterproof or not.
All in all, ZeroLemon battery cases may not appeal to most but they definitely serve a niche group of consumers like my brother. Lol
One final thing that will probably please original Gameboy fans. The heft and size of it reminds me of the original Gameboy. It's almost as if I'm using a modern version of the Gameboy. If you've never played hours upon hours of the original Gameboy, you won't know I'm saying but if you did then you'll instantly be reminded of it. Lol
Another thing is I haven't seen a holster for this version. My bro's S4 or S5 (forgot which Galaxy he has) battery case came with a holster.
no pics! all good mate, nice review.
how much was the case?
would be good if you could test capacity more accurately, maybe turn on airplane mode, then turn on wifi and have youtube play continuous hd documentaries (auto play enabled) with screen brightness 100% and see how many hours it last?... no pressure, just curious
No time for that but it's fine to charge almost 2x from a dead battery. The efficiency rating isn't the best but it's not advertised as such either. I'd say,
anecdotally, it's about 70-75% efficiency which is about average.
