Screen stuck on - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed a custom ROM but it didn't work well so I used TWRP to restore a backup. Now the screen never turns off. Even if I don't touch it for 30 minutes the screen is on. If I press the power button nothing happens. This is a huge waste of battery. Any ideas how I can fix it? The tablet can still shutdown (and that's the only time the screen is off).

Mine did the same thing a few days ago. The screen would stay on and pressing the power button just rebooted the tab and it came right back on. Ended up reloading the OEM Rom after a COMPLETE wipe (except external SD card). After reloading, the tab went back to normal operation.

Ugh any tips on how I can save time not reinstalling everything? I hate relogging into all the wireless networks. Do you restore with your google account or samsung account?

Help! My nexus won't turn on

Few weeks ago my phone just died. I mean, it just shut off completely. It booted up and all my apps were crashing - swype, terminal, chrome, skype, everything. I reinstalled them, and no issues since.
So today My phone kept disconnecting from 4g and not able to keep a signal. So I figured it was time to wipe cache and wipe dalvik. I rebooted into recovery, wiped both.. everything OK.
I turn it back on, I see "Google" then the screen goes black and that's it. Nothing happens. No notifications, I left it like this for a good 20 minutes thinking it would appear. Nothing. Dead.
Any ideas on what's going on with this thing? I can't not even tell you how sick of this phone I am getting. It's great when it's working or when the battery isn't dead.
My rom is TeamBamf (latest)
Any ideas?

You might have to fastboot back to stock
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Or unroot. And reroot. It usually fix all the problems.
I can boot into fastboot mode, I can access it through ADB but nothing works. I guess my only choice now is to do a backup in CWM and then restore stock. The USB port is in bad shape. I was holding off on taking it to Verizon for a replacement because I want to get the replacement, sell it, and get the S3.
What would of caused it to shut off like it did and make all my apps randomly crash?

[Q] Turning off randomly semi-boot loop

My s3 was running on Wicked Sensation and it was working perfectly. All of a sudden, my power button kept screwing up and then the phone randomly turned off. It was stuck in a boot loop but it turned off at random points in the boot process. It got as far as the wicked sensation loading screen a couple times but it didn't make it pass that. Next, I tried to clear cache and do a complete reset and that got the same result. I decided to restore my nandroid of CM10. Oh it takes a couple attempts to get to recovery. Most of the time it doesn't make it past the Galaxy s3 screen and turns back off. But eventually it made it to recovery and I was able to clear everything again and restore my nandroid back up. Now when booting, it occasionally makes it to the set up process and shuts back down. I was eventually able to complete it and the phone worked for 5 minutes but then it reset. I then decided to retry the nandroid back up and I eventually got back to the set up. Since that, I have not been able to complete it but I got to the gmail screen multiple times. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is.
At first I thought maybe it was the power button being pressed down by something but comparing it to my dad's S3, it looks the same so as far as I can tell it's not that. I'm not at home but I will try to unroot and use Odin to flash back to stock. I'll update this then but until then, does anyone else have an idea what I should do? It doesn't seem like going back to stock will work but I've got my fingers crossed.
UPDATE #1: Well this is strange, if I keep the back door cover off just a bit it seems to work. Hmm.. I'm not sure if that's just a coincidence but I'm not willing to completely put it back on til I get home. Oh and if the screen times out it takes a while to turn it back on. I hope this isn't the symptoms of a pre-motherboard failure that some people are reporting... JK it turned off again
UPDATE #2: Okay so now I have another problem. The phone doesn't stay on long enough for me to unroot.. Damn.

Sounds like something went wrong with whatever you flashed...can you get into download mode and stay there without the phone powering down? If so, Odin back to stock: if not, u have a defective power button and you should see Sprint.

Yeah I think it might be the power button as well. I'm taking it in to Sprint today. Hopefully they don't notice it's on custom.. :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Soft Bricked or Hard Bricked? (Please, PLEASE help!!!)

I have a SPH L710 galaxy s3 (sprint). I recently flashed a Rom called hyperdrive 4.1.2 that was on it's RLS11. following the instructions (factory reset x2, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe system), I then picked the features i wanted in the built in aroma installer and let the rom flash. When it was done I noticed i kept getting the message "the process com.android.phone has stopped". So i performed a clean install of my previous Rom which was Liquid Smooth.
A day or two later I noticed hyperdrive has released it's RLS 12, so i decided to give it another try. This time there was an option in the aroma installer for developer picks so i selected that, thinking my previous attempt i may have picked conflicting files in the aroma installer. The Rom worked fine for about a day. Then the next day while it was charging after the battery have completely died the night before. I noticed the phone had rebooted on its own, then it started going into a boot loop. I did a battery pull, and i noticed when i put it back in, before i could even hold the buttons to get it into recovery mode or download mode, the phone would vibrate and turn on by itself, without me pressing any buttons at all. After some trying i was able to have the buttons held so when i inserted the battery, i was already holding the buttons to try to get to recovery. When I did this it would say it was about to go into recovery, then the screen would go black. The same thing when I tried getting it into download mode, It would show the download mode screen, then go to a black screen. I Then did some research, after seeing no one else really having this problem, and noticing that since it was still seeing boot screens before the black screen, it shouldn't be a hard brick.
I decided to order a USB jig for my phone that came today. When inserted the battery with the usb jig the phone still turned on by itself, but it was able to go to download mode and it stayed at the screen. I used odin 3.07 to flash SPH-L710_MD4_1130792_Rooted_Nodata, which was a tar file you would use if you wanted to keep your user data. It took 10 minutes to flash but everything seemed to be a success, it rebooted my phone and everything seemed to be working fine. After about 20 minutes of my phone being plugged back into a charger and i was halfway through with downloading an app from the android market where out of nowhere my phone temporarily froze and then rebooted, to where it will show the samsung screen, then the samsung galaxy s3 screen, then just goes to a black screen. Now even with the USB jig, it will still power on by itself as soon as a place in the battery, go directly to download mode, but then go to a black screen within 3-4 seconds before i can do anything.
Has anyone ever encountered anything like this before? At first i thought it might be a stuck power button, but when I was able to flash through download mode with the USB jig that first time it makes me think it is bricked. Any help or insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

How long did you let it set on the black screen because it takes a while to boot up the first time after flashing a ROM.

Well i just placed the battery back in, it started on it's own without my pressing anything again, and i've been timing the last 5 minutes. but it seems like it will stay a black screen indefinitely. unless i remove the back of the phone, or snap it back into place, or any kind of micro impact movements it seems, when I do that it vibrates like it's first being turned on, and shows the samsung screen, then the samsung galaxy s3 screen, then it will go black again.
See if your adb on your computer can recognize the phone while it's stuck on the black screen. You might be able to push a Rom or recovery over using that.

You may want to just start fresh and lose your data with a different stock file. That kinda happened to me before on the gs2 and I found better results with a 100% fresh start. The no data always left me with a hangup or two after getting the phone to boot.

After the first odin flash i was thinking the same thing. But that's the thing, it won't stay on the download mode screen long enough for me to even try to flash anything else through odin. I'm also noticing when connected to the charger, if i make a slight impact against the phone with my palm, the screen will briefly show the battery icon as if the phone is charging when it is turned off, then the screen will go black again. When it is unplugged, is when it will show the samsung screen, then the samsung galaxy s3 screen, then go black again.
That's weird...sounds like something is loose. Any kind of recent impact damage to the phone? Dropping it, throwing it at your cat, anything like that?
To me it sounds like maybe your power button is stuck "down"
If you didn't know, the power button has a fail safe reboot that happens after holding for about 10 seconds. So no matter what, if you phone is frozen or whatever, holding power more than 10s will cause it to reboot. That would also explain why its turning itself on as soon as you pop in the battery.

not recently, and if it was ever dropped, it would be in it's case... But i had noticed that while it was in it's power glove case, sometimes i would have to use more than normal pressure on the power button to get the phone to respond. I was wondering if something was stuck, just haven't read anything like that happening to anyone, and when I used the jig the first time the screen stayed on.

[Q] Powers off, powers on, powers off... Help!

Late last night while playing games on my phone it froze and I had to hold in the power button to reset it.
When it powered back on, it froze almost immediately, powered down after a couple of minutes, turned back on and repeated the cycle. As I was already in bed I plugged the phone in and assumed it would fix itself and be fine in the morning.
Except it isn't. This morning the phone is very warm and is still poering on, freezing and powering off. If I do a battery pull and turn it on myself, it does the same thing so right now I've just got it turned off.
I noticed when it turned on that Google Wallet icon would appear in the status bar and it was at this point that the phone froze. I was able to go into Rom Toolbox before the Wallet icon appeared and managed to disable Google Wallet at startup, but this had no effect. I went into recovery and cleared cache and dalvik, this had no effect.
What may be causing this power cycling? I haven't installed any new apps in days, I haven't downloaded anything, and I turn my phone off and on every morning and it's never done this before.
If it helps I'm on Freeza's deodexed stock unrooted MD4.

I think it's fine. It can certainly be pressed with no problem and it seems to release itself as normal. I am going to try restoring a backup from last week and seeing if it still does it after that.
I would recommend maybe doing a FULL Wipe, and Flash. Might be a Bad Flash.
Sounds like the sudden death syndrome which is the power button failure. The physical button looks and feels fine its the internal contact which meses up. Try tapping on it or blowing some compressed air into the power button area. My understanding is they repair this as its a known problem.

[Q] Phone shut off now stuck in permanent death loop

Hey all, I have a S3 i747 on rogers. I have had it for a couple years everything working fine and great, I rooted it after I bought it and it worked no problem. A week or two ago it suddenly shut itself off while I was using it. I didn't think much of it, then later that day again it turned itself off.
This time, it automatically tries to reboot but as soon as the logo appears it instantly turns itself back off again. It's not that it gets to a certain point, it's like there's a time limit on how far it can progress through the boot sequence, I estimate about 4-5 seconds. No matter what I try I cannot get it past this cut off time.
I have tried download mode, recovery mode, battery tricks (found on obscure sites), etc etc etc and still its stuck in this death loop. Im fine with buying a new phone, but I had not made a contact back-up for 6 months (no, I wasn't syncing with google) and have lost many, many new contacts as well as certain files and pictures that I wouldn't mind getting back.
Also, if I am very fast I can get the first page of recovery mode to pop up, but then the "time limit" hits and before any selections on the menu can be made it automatically reboots. If I leave the battery in, it will try every few minutes to boot repeatedly until the battery is completely zapped.

Does it still keep rebooting even in download mode? If not then try reflashing your stock rom.
Or maybe try booting up without an sd and without a sim card.

Also make sure to not hold the volume and home keys too long when going into download mode, once the phone vibrates you should be able to let go. I made the same mistake on my phone and then noticed i had been pressing the volume and power keys while download mode was starting, causing it to select cancel. If not though you are probably looking at some sort of internal hardware issue that may be causing the reset to trip or causing the phone to believe it should be shutting itself off at that moment. This is all purely speculation, but hope it helps.

I can't even make it into download mode, or recovery mode. Like I said, its as if the phone has a built in time-limit for how long it is going to load, the absolute farthest I can get is the first page of recovery mode and then boom it instantly resets before I can even make one selection, and I did this like 100 times in a row so I got very fast at getting into recovery mode. As per 2nd quote, yes I am releasing the buttons as I am supposed to to get into the appropriate mode, but the "time limit" hits and just reboots no matter what.
I've tried booting up without sim and sd card, but it still doesn't make it any further.

I would put my money on a bad power switch/button.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Yes, it acts like a stuck power button, a common problem with galaxy s phones.
If it auto starts when you insert the battery, that's a sure sign the power on circuit is active.
When my Captivate did this, I opened the back & carefully tapped it on a table edge to try dislodging any debris.
I then followed teardown instructions, inspected the switch assembly & blew it out with forced air.
The problem ended & never returned. I honestly don't think there was a physical defect in my phone's switch; more likely a residual charge on the mainboard.
Root causes vary as do solutions for the problem. Inexpensive switch replacement is a good one too.
Since then I have used a couple of apps to reduce the need for the gs3 power button.
