I've been looking for replacement light diffusers for an HTC EVO 4G phone. After I removed a cracked screen I noticed that one of the diffusers was broken and managed to lose two of them.
I contacted HTC support and they referred me to another number for repair support and to contact them again if this didn't help. They told me they don't sell parts but could arrange to see if they could fix the phone. It's an older phone and I basically use it for running apps, but, recently have set it up with FreedomPop. I don't want to spend much on it.
I contacted their regular support and said the number they referred me two didn't help and I mentioned that there is an e-waste disposal/recycling company in my town. This company told me they don't sell old cell phones as the may contain personal information. I was thinking maybe I could talk them into letting me tear apart an old phone in their presence to get the parts I need. I asked the HTC support if other or all HTC phones used they same light diffusers. It they did, then I would stand a better chance of finding what I need. HTC support replied that this is confidential information. I think they just don't know and don't know who to ask.
So, my question to this forum is does anyone know if the light diffusers for the HTC EVO 4G are also used in other models and if so which ones. Or if someone knows a source other than salvage from an old phone where I can get some.
TIA

No, I'm not asking when/if the Incred is gonna hit Sprint.
Due to a falling out with Verizon, I'm now with Sprint, and would like to bring the $300 phone over to them (even if I would love to get my hands on an Evo). Now, considering I've never even considered taking an unlocked phone and dropping it onto another provider, I was hoping someone here in the forums may know whether or not it is possible to do so.
I mean, they're both CDMA and Sprint does use Verizon's towers...
It's not possible sadly. Not for any technical reasons, there are no issues there, but Sprint won't activate a phone's ESN number that's not in their system. The ESN contains the model number/vender/etc. Being that this phone is a VZW-exclusive, there really isn't a lot you can do... sorry =/.

HTC is known for releasing phones that are better than and similar to other carriers versions, so i'd try to hold out, HTC releases phones every other month or so too. You can still use the phone as a Wifi only device atleast so its not entirely useless.
also, from the sound of it DeeBG, the ESN seems to be the same as a VIN for a car, didn't know the ESN contained all that info, i thought it was just an id like a MAC I.D. on wireless devices.
As far as them not activating the ESN, a while back they were part of the Open Handset Alliance, as was Verizon, and T-Mobile was also in there, and as far as i've read, Verizon is the only carrier that left it.
An H-SPL* unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2 with Windows Mobile from Verizon can be made to work on Sprint, its just that the 3G won't work (just to give an example)
*H-SPL is the equivelant of Root on Android, except on Windows Mobile OS

You're chances are about as good as Janet Reno winning a Miss America pageant. Sprint will not activate it as the MEID is not in their database nor would they even remotely entertain the idea of adding it as they can not support it if there are problems.
anything is possible but you are then on your own with no warranty or support from sprint. if you search around you can find how to do it but it is not easy and really not worth it unless you enjoy messing around with programming phones.
best bet is to ebay your INC and get an EVO on sprint. you'll probably come out ahead money wise anyway.
I say try activating it online. It wouldn't hurt to try. Can't speak for Sprint, but I've activated an old MotoQ from Sprint on Verizon's network within the last 6 months or so. So, I at least know Verizon does it. Or maybe they both carried the same phone at one point. But, trying doesn't hurt.
Edit: Comment back here when you figure it out.
Hi. Somebody stolen my HTC Desire. How can I block it using IMEI. If it is already locked, is it international? I want to block it completely so that somebody can no longer use the phone. If it is possible to brick it remotely i would really appreciate it... I reported this to HTC but can't since it requires serial number that can be found on the phone itself. I worked hard just to buy it. Please do me a favor. please... i have been crying all day because of it. Please tell me how? I got the box with me... Thanks...
First of all, stop crying.
Second, the IMEI is (at least on mine) also on the box.
Third, report it to the police and hope they find it.
That is all you can do. Sorry for your loss and I hope you/they find it. I know about a case when an iPhone was stolen and was returned to the owner in like a month. So lets hope for the best.
Moved to Q&A as not development.
Second, stop crying, as said above. There's nothing we can do now it's gone, but the serial number is on the white sticker on the box, and begins HT99xxxxxxxx usually.
Report the theft to the police, and get it recorded. To block the IMEI, you will need to tell your network.
Was the SIM in the phone when it happened? If so, you NEED to tell your network ASAP, as you are liable for all calls made until you tell them and they cancel the SIM. They can bar the IMEI when you call.
As for it being international, there's no one database for this, so the phone may be usable outwith the country, but you likely won't get it back.
Did you install WaveSecure or anything like that on it? That would let you track it using the GPS and wipe the data.
Sorry to hear of your loss.
Phone your network now if not already done
It's for situations like this that i would really appreciate if HTC gave us the new SenseUI and give us access to to the webpage as well...
Thanks for transferring the thread. Here's in Philippines, the cost of HTC Desire is expensive especially for my type of job. I can't really help it but cry. Maybe its just natural for a typical woman eh? Sigh... Can't even sleep. Well, my sim is just a prepaid. And I have not installed WaveSecure or anything else. When I realised that my phone is missing, I can no longer call it. It may have been shut down already. Got my EMEI now from the box. Now I don't know what to do from here. Maybe reporting this to HTC would help?
I don't think HTC can help, I just know you should call
1. your mobile operator
2. police
and let it go. If it comes back, great. If not, you'll get another one, even better one
Are you insured ? In Denmark we have a household insurance that covers thefts like this ?
The worst part is the data and accounts that someone else has access to now. I suggest changing your gmail/google passwords as well as long in to google checkout and remove any existing credit cards
Likewise - try calling your insurance company - just might be lucky and they will cover it ?

Huzzah noob questions!
Recently, my phone's screen head-butted a microphone and now the touchscreen doesn't work. US Cellular would like ~$250 to 500 (refurb and new, respectively) for a replacement. I love the phone, but I can't just part with that much money without doing a little research.
Fast forward to now: I've looked on eBay (and many other dealers, carriers, etc.) for a used phone as getting a new plan elsewhere would still be too expensive. I found a couple used ones for ~100 from a highly rated source and it leaves me wondering a few thoughts:
-Does the phone differentiate at all going from carrier to carrier? Or, does a cdma desire mean a cdma desire?
-I have heard that US Cellular will activate the used phone once I purchase one. Anyone have any experiences with this kind of support through them, htc desire or otherwise?
-Are there any other places to look for a used/new htc desire? I'm currently checking local craigslist ads and finding prices slightly higher than eBay. I figured at least they could show me the phone was functional if I chose to go that route.
Thanks for any/all help you can send my way.
Hi, guys, i'm from Peru, and trying to acquire a HTC One X, but, after talking to 2 local sellers of it, (who will have it in stock, in a pretty shrink wrapped way between thursday to saturday of the next week) i'm confused, one of them, which offers the cheapest price tells me that the "latinamerican" version, uses normal SIM, no microsims, the other tells me that they dont know such thing, but then they bring the american and european version (aka global one?) so i dont know what to believe or if one of them is trying to scam me.
I tried to talk to HTC, given that they have local phones all around latinamerica, but contact wasnt possible, i never reached someone to ask on the phone only the voice system, i tried to call to the american hotline, and it put me on a loop, waiting, listening to music, also all reviews i've seen suggest it uses microSIM, so anyone over here knows for a fact if there's indeed a latinamerican version and if so, what kind of microSIM uses?, any way to check that the device is not counterfeited or pirated? seals, glowing stuff, serials etc.
I know that there are HTC One S knock offs, made in china, using mediatech (or something) processors, to fool around people, and it doesnt really help that the htc one x, comes with a tegra 3 quad core and a snap dragon dual core in other places, so it could be that htc decided to use another processor for latinamerica, but i have no way to know.
I'd love if any latinamerican here, who bought it locally (and not smuggled thru the customs) had the SIM version?.

HTC always said the device used microsim, also all the websites on the internet report this. I doubt there is something as a "normalsim version". The fact that the guy who is telling you this also offers a cheaper version makes me wonder if it isn't some kind of scam.
I'd play safe and buy the normal verson (with micro-sim)
Orange has now stopped replacing HTC handsets that have the reboot issue. due to the amount being taken back. I don't know if other networks are also putting a stop to this . HTC are now working on a update for all HTC one x devices to fix the problem. There was talk about HTC doing a call back on all devices but due to the state HTC are currently in it was decided it would be better for the company to try and fix through a software update
I note to any orange customers wanting a replaced phone under warranty please don't tell them its rebooting as orange will not take the phone back.
I send my apologies to all admins and mods if this info is in the public domain and a post has been made already. I understand their are some other people who come on.here who work for either HTC or other networks
Posted from my HTC one x by an HTC employee who is not best please with the company he works for
And that's why I left orange 10 years ago. Furthermore, they can't do that, if your orange branded 1x is faulty and they won't replace it, go to court and take them for costs and loss of earnings as well.
So orange believe that if you have a faulty handset they do not have to replace it as an update is in the works?
I'm afraid that's not how it works orange...
We all know by law anything we buy has to be as described and fit for perperce
An 1x rebooting does not fit this and yes of course it should be swapped without any questions
I cannot speak on behalf of orange but I can tell you what I was told. Don't just blame orange though it might be other networks and it may have also been a direct request from HTC . The info I was told about the update HTC customers are having came from an email at the office the info I had about orange came from the Burton on Trent orange store when i visited them with my own faulty handset not due to rebooting but do to the handset not taking a charge. I was told I quote its a good job you did not have a phone that was rebooting as we are no longer taking these. I did not ask why but I can guess why
Have we got a linky or other 'proof' of this?
No disrespect to the OP, he may just be passing on info he has heard…. but are the guys who told him this info correct? Cos, lets face it, ALL staff who work in mobile phone shops KNOW everything about what is happening everywhere in their company, dont they.
Steve
no disrespect taken Tomo
I have no links or anything to the info i have just given. Its not offical. HTC i guess will make an offical statment when they want to. But i can give you my world and thats all.
as for orange
I cannot speak on their behalf but pass info on what i was told by the store i went to.
I guess some one could phone orange and ask them if they are still doing swaps for duff phones. i think it stinks myself if they are not giving replacments for phones rebooting.
Yeah I'm not gonna believe it until HTC says it, because retailers are required by law to replace phones or refund them...
Hello to all
It looks like HTC has now realised the new update I've already had. Message come through on my phone its downloaded and installed ok . Just hope it fixes any problems with your one x
